48 Guys Get Real About Female Traits That Women Think Would Win A Man Over, But Won’t
Attracting someone of the opposite sex can be hit or miss. That 50-50 chance can make some people strive for perfection and obsess over things they shouldn’t.
Today, we’re talking about the things women unnecessarily dwell on to impress men—things that, in reality, only do the opposite. These behaviors range from the typical scenarios, like playing hard to get, to fixating too much on appearances during moments of physical intimacy.
These responses were from a few men who decided to get real on Reddit a few years ago. Scroll down to see what they said.

Fake eyelashes
They look like a cheap spider Halloween decoration is stuck to your eyelids.
The right way to do them is to apply them to someone else, or the dog.
Load More Replies...My wife tells me there is a time and place for heavy makeup. A dark nightclub is where a woman uses more eye makeup, never for daily use.
When i see a woman wearing lashes like that, I presume she does it because she likes it, not because she's trying to attract a man. Same with any other makeup, or how she dresses.
I would say all the makeup, nails and beauty stuff but I've realized that they just do it for themselves so fair play to them.
Some beauty stuff is important, although we (men) mostly don't realise it. That's the moisturiser and some hair products. It makes a huge difference, especially over the decades, and we don't even know it. I'm unusual as a man, because I moisturise, having acne problems. Combined with oily skin, I'm avoiding a LOT of wrinkles, especially around my mouth, as an ex smoker.
Its been scientifically proven you cant "avoid" wrinkles, because they are genetically timed and linked to fat content (losing weight deflates the skin and age reduces collagen). The only thing you do with moisturizer is keep the skin surface from becoming dry and flaky.

Duck face.
They may call it "duck face", but I have at least two candidates for a better first letter.
Acting dumb to look cute...we just see it as dumb.
I absolutely hate when they start the baby talk. Unless it's coming out of a really baby, i have no idea how people don't find it yucky
Had a GF who would not stop baby talk. we did not last.
Load More Replies...Acting dumb to get what you want is a manipulative tactic I saw in the most selfish people I have ever met. The also get mad when they dont get their way, and then the dumb disappears as they surgically target what will hurt you the most.
Always makes me think of the scene in Horsefeathers where Connie (Thelma Todd) is trying to "woo" the football signals from Professor Wagstaff (Groucho Marx) * Connie: If icky baby don't learn about the football signals, icky baby gonna cwy. Professor Wagstaff: If icky girl keep on talking that way, big stwong man's gonna kick all of her teef wight down her fwoat.
No no no no o L a y talk is for babies and fur babies ,NOT for men ICK ,

A tan. After a certain point you just look like a leather handbag. Chill.
Back when I was a kid, getting a tan was considered "healthy." (Yes, I am old, why do you ask?)
I'm a woman but I think cellulite is a winner here. One of my boyfriends didn't even know what it was. I showed him pictures but the only thing he saw was butt.
I once had a female roommate tell me that men loved it when she acted all helpless around them,as it made them feel like like protectors or somesuch.
When she demonstrated, at my request, I shuddered in disgust. Maybe some men like it, but I understood that day that I really like independent women who don't need me. Makes it clear that they're with me because they want to.
Yep. I want a strong, independent woman, not someone who is helpless without me. I have three stepdaughters and a stepson, and I've made sure to *show them* when I fix things (change a tyre, for example) or cook things so they can do it themselves, rather than just doing it for them.
Hah! My woman can fix my car, and do my decorating. I'm happy to cook!
Lmao il do the car the diy , oh and sorry ITS MY KITCHEN ! pfft. 😂😂

Married dude here. My wife makes a big deal about apologizing for having hairy legs. It doesn't bother me in the slightest, but she definitely thinks it does. I'm very surprised I didn't see this higher up in the comments.
If it is for her, then shave away, but I imagine it is incredibly tedious. I cannot even fathom how much time it would take to shave my legs.
Tell her from all us women on here (think I can speak for us all ? ) she DOES NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING SHE DOESNT WANT TO , less so if you actually don’t mind either bless her ,and thank you for loving her for exactly who she is x
I am 70% bald and shave my head every 4-5 days. i do it cos I personally hate the way it looks when there is hair and like when its shaved. Women do ye feel the same or do you shave your legs as its beauty standard
Kind of both. I started to do it because I was being made fun of all school, but I also like the feeling of smooth legs. These days I compromise by going full yeti in the winter, and epilating in the summer (this way I only need to do it every 3/4 weeks).
Load More Replies...Shaving is a personal thing, I know women who've never shaved because their leg hair is just soft peach fuzz. I have thick black corse leg hair so it makes my skin look dirty and smushes and gets irritated in socks and pants, so I keep it short but not daily or even monthly.
Lips. Collagen, botox, or whatever injections chasing some fake inner tube inflated dream when really they look grotesque. Thin lips look good. Big lips look bad look on everyone and it confounds me that people do it to themselves.
Big lips look like you’re having an allergic reaction when they’re not a natural feature of your face
Well we can try , as a woman even I’d ask em why the hell they messed up their bodies so much vanity is so shallow , no one likes it do they ,

How their mid section looks during love-making. I've known a couple of girls who try to cover up their belly/love handles when it comes time to get down either by keeping their top on or hugging themselves. The truth is, if you've gotten that far, the guy more than likely doesn't care about the tiny bit of cushion you got there, he probably likes it.
Definitely don't care about an overhang. Happy to keep it out of the way with my nose while getting down to business.... 😁
Many women feel insecure about their bodies, so just reassure her that you cherish her just the way she is.
As a midriff enthusiast - all shapes and sizes are perfect. Flat, chubby, curvy, ALL PERFECT and hiding it is like an angel hiding their wings.
I thought that some guys get turned off if they think the woman has extra fat there
The whole “playful but hard to get” act. A lot of guys are into it but I personally that’s a huge turn off. I can’t read mixed signals, anything mixed I read as a “no”. And quite frankly I don’t have the time or the patience to figure out someone who’s probably not even interested in me. No wonder I’m single.
Actually playing hard to get is a turn off on both sides , it’s playing games n playing games is childish in a relationship! Dont do it ,
I guess it's an unrealistic expectation, but... I'd just love to experience a relationship where we meet, become friends and gradually realize we're no longer able to be without each other - no stupid games, tests, tedious courting.
My husband told me while we were dating that he wouldn't tolerate "head games". He had to explain what he meant, and I told him it sounded disgusting. 25 years married, no head games. As Popeye said "I yam what I yam and that's all that I yam."
Same. I probably missed a lot of opportunities over my lifetime because of this, but can't help thinking that those opportunities might have been mistakes for me anyway!
If its a game, then they are trying to win, and in relationships winners always lose the other person.
When a woman plays the hard to get game, take it as a "No" and move on. You'll enjoy the astonished look on her face. (And always consider the possibility that it was in fact a genuine "No".)
I'm a girl... but my friends do this; constantly being late and thinking that it makes them 'cute' somehow.
Oh god I hate that! I’m 76 and when I was a young hippie girl, I wasn’t “into time”, so I never wore a watch. I just planned my day for one event to run into the other and I’m rarely late, even to this day.
10-15 minutes late to an event used to be called "fashionably late". Anything more than that (without a viable excuse)=attention seeker
Now its viewed as, you didnt want to come anyway, so you should just go back home.
Load More Replies...late will make them miss the train/boat/flight. What's cute about that? Would look cute -... I mean dumb
Eugh to be early is to be in time , to be in time is to be late … to be late JUST WONT DO , I CANT stand it either m be if from men or women or who ever .
It’s nice if you sit down and watch the football with me, but if you’re doing it just to impress me with fake interest, I would rather you be genuine and do your own thing and join me after.
How does OP differentiate between 'fake interest' and "he loves it so much, I'll have a look and share it, even if it's not totally my thing"?
My GF doesn't like football at all, but she'll watch it when I watch the Broncos. It's not her thing, but she'll show an interest in one of the things that I enjoy.

Acting stupid and a "save me" syndrome . Huge turn off.
I know a "save me im stupid" person, and she has burned out all her family, and has no friends, and is losing custody of her child because everyone is fed up and has blocked her. She chooses to be stupid, and purposely avoids learning, and refuses to teach her children anything.
Those effects that they add to their pictures or videos, like hearts added to make themselves seem more cute. Instantly walk away.
General obsession with taking photos. Girls who go somewhere and need to take dozens of pictures of themselves, they need to be evaluated, redone, then spend time during the date photoshopping them. Or need to wait before they can eat food because the table needs to be remodeled for her food pictures.
I used to fly small, single engine planes a lot. I took a girl with me once and she was self-conscious about her glasses and didn’t wear them and subsequently couldn’t see anything past the instrument panel and it was a beautiful fall day and I flew over Letchworth State Park.
I knew she had coke-bottle glasses and I was still super-interested in her. I lost interest because she was too self-conscious to get something out of a thing I loved and wanted to share with her.
do the goggles not fit over the glasses, or a diver mask? (serious question)
One would not normally be wearing goggles in a light aircraft.

Trying to be/act sassy and stuff like that. Not only do most men not like it, but they really dislike it too. It makes them feel like they’re raising a spoiled kid, not being with an equal partner.
My partner and I were watching telly and there was a commercial for Dove deodorant. He looked over and told me that he’d never thought about my armpits. It was very romantic.
It's romantic not to think about your partner's armpits? I guess.....
The cosmetics are fine, because I know it can give a woman a confidence boost, but i could take it or leave it. Now if there is no personality, or they are inconsiderate or racist it’s over.
Eyebrows. They get sooo much attention.
But that’s not all I browse.
I don't notice the shoes. Maybe I notice how they posture you, but I certainly don't notice designs or brands. Same with handbags/purses - but I do think the utilitarian "about to go on an adventure" ones are kind of cool.
I've been told that those are status things intended to be seen by other women, though.
The whole dressing for other women amuses me. It's a status thing, of course, the highest status being the woman who other women think is most attractive to men. And they're dead wrong.
Like the thing where apparently many women are upset if they show up to a social event and another woman is wearing the same clothing. Men don't care.
Load More Replies...i recently learned what a Hermes bag costs... And I still don't know what it looks like
No man cares about your eye brows unless they’re joined together or you shaved them off. Filling your eyebrows into a half inch thick square of make up is only appealing to other women.
Eyebrows contribute to the entire look, but maybe men don't notice them individually. Big caterpillar brows are questionable but a lil fill in and shape makes a difference.
I use a little brown powder. My brows are brown, blonde, and a couple of platinum hairs. I just want them a single, attractive color, and not BIG.
Load More Replies...Cleaning the spare hairs under the eyebrow to the lid helps make the eyes seem brighter, and reducing a unibrow gives a less haggard look, but honestly I hate "fashion" eyebrows.
A woman's eyebrows don't fall under "necessary self-care". A woman doesn't have to pluck/neaten her eyebrows in order to "take proper care of herself".

When they think not saying they are into me is a sign of intrest... I'm a dumb man, with no time to keep reading people. If you decline, ignore me and other stuff, I just don't care...
Had 3 girls once tell me why I didn't write anymore, or went harder. And simple isn't worth it, especially if you wanna do that in a relationship.
Although I understand what the point probably is, OP is really bad at putting it across.
Yes, OP means, send clear signals. Interpretations leave too much room for error
I'm probably older and more married than most in this thread, but my wife seems obsessed with the idea that every woman in my family has to just think she is the best.
I get it. She's from a very tight-nit, rural family. Even extended family members like cousins are very close. When someone in their family is offended by something, they get really sassy with each other and backstabby. An example might be someone didn't get invited to go on a camping trip, and feel like they should have been invited, now they won't show up to the next thing out of spite. Mind you, these people get together like twice a month minimum. They are all up in each other's business all the time.
So my wife is super afraid of not being liked in my family. She's terrified that if we don't go to something, or we don't buy a nice enough gift, etc, that she's going to shunned or something. But my family isn't like that. We all live in different cities and rarely see each other. We're just happy to see each other, the few times a year we do. We don't usually sweat stuff like that.
But I think she still believes that she's letting me down and being a bad wife if all the women in my family don't just adore her. The thing is, they do. They have all loved her from the very beginning because she's great.
Nothin' tighter than a nit! They're hard to get rid of. ☺

For any women reading this: Stop trying to outdrink me/any man you're into. Unless you're bigger than him (which isn't particularly common) you're just gonna throw up over his shoes.
Source: Have new shoes.
Size isn't a reliable indication of alcohol tolerance. As a petite woman I have had to help many much larger men than me get home safely even though we drank the same amount. Lol.
Yeah, not always. My woman can probably drink me under the table, even when I was an active alcoholic. She never seems to have an dependence on it, and actually rarely drinks. Occasionally she'll go hell for leather, though. I think it's because of a lot of drinking as a young adult.
Coming from a guy who's preferred type is naturally pale redheads. Anything to do with tanning or make up.. Trying to change the complexion of your skin. Like why?
Sports, I’m a big nerd myself and know pretty much nothing about any sport. But for whatever reason women who really try to I guess relate to me immediately default to talking about sports. I always appreciate their efforts in the conversation, but sadly couldn’t care less about sports so I quickly steer the conversation somewhere else.
well, at least they have a topic! In my younger years, women complained us men only talking about cars. I asked for an alternative (vegan wasn't a topic then), no answer

The majority of things listed here are done more for a woman's confidence in her self, and less for actual attention from a man. The fact that the term "dad bod" is a celebrated term, while "mom jeans" is not should be proof that men (some of you) are great at being comfortable in their own skin, while women (even after we manage to nurture and produce a tiny human) still place too much value on our appearance over reality.
Studies have shown that men have truck loads more confidence than women (we love that you guys do! It is super attractive!)... Is it really so bad if we try to boost our own confidence artificially? I'm Not being judgmental by any means. I am genuinely curious, since men dislike our beauty rituals, but also dislike women who lack confidence. What's the guy secret to unwavering confidence? Is it a case of fake it til ya make it? Inquiring mind(s) want(s) to know. LOL.
To answer Papa, I've seen it as well and haven't been able to find a reason. I even tried Google to see if it was some sort of shadow ban. I would respond directly to you, but there's no reply button on your comment, either. My theory - and it's just a theory - is that they're getting stricter about downvotes. Possibly at some point Space Invader had more downvotes than upvotes got their replies blocked, and it just doesn't switch back after upvotes are in the majority again. At the time of reading your remark, you were at -1 & even though I upvoted you back to 0/neutral, the reply button is missing.
THANK YOU! Applying new b******t negative meanings to pre-existing things is getting old.
Load More Replies...I think it's because most women don't worry too much about body style/type. Men, however, seem obsessed with it. The source of confidence or lack is probably the other gender, in my opinion.
That's because society doesn't tell men that they have to be model perfect and skinny. I've been turned away, insulted, and laughed at (by unattractive men) for not being a size 2 hottie."What a joke! You think I want to see a show with YOU?" Women aren't as shallow. I'd have plenty of confidence too if men were more like women that way.
It’s 2020, ladies. Live for yourself. Don’t let men dictate what is good or bad (or other women for that matter).
Acting overly “cutsey”
Just act like your normal self. If you try too hard to be cute, you look exactly that, like you’re trying too hard. Just let your natural self flow and a couple guys will probably like you.
Ive known this girl try to act wayy too much like a cute anime girl, and it was so obvious she was copying the anime she watched to be “cute,” it was almost painful to watch.
Turning off shows I don't like when she is watching then. I tell her I am gonna read while she watches it so I don't care.
Just "looking good" or "i look to ugly to go in there" is dumb. Its a Walmart you don't have to look like a Hollywood wedding.
I thought you had to look ugly to go to Walmart. Probably all the Walmart pics on the internet, though.... 🤣
I must be weird, but I think a little bit of acne/braces/glasses are cute.
Well, acne not so much, but glasses and braces tend to be an all, or nothing proposition....
When they think smoking is cool...it’s not.
If you are dating people who thinks 'smoking is cool' you are dating teenagers.
it looks cool, but uninteresting to me. If not worse. Same as wearing birken-stock or adilette with white socks. A women buying cheese with her Ferrari or Cessna. Now THAT is cool
Makeup.
Also, +1 just for saying ***couldn't*** care less instead of could care less, f**k knows why so many people in the US get that backwards.
I like a little foundation because I have a bit of rosacea and it makes me self conscious.
Foundation is a fantastic fixer-upper. Having had to fix up my wife's back for her to wear a lovely backless dress, I can confirm!

Not a man, but my boyfriend told me men don't notice women's jewelry. I. Love. Jewelry. I don't wear expensive jewelry but have lots of interesting, unusual earrings. I get compliments from lots of women and I love them, but I can see how guys just shrug.
I think they like it, they just don't care what exact piece. Necklaces, bracelets and earrings are quite s**y, they just don't care if it's special unique piece.
Now if a woman has a guitar, a man will be interested in specifically the details.

Heels. They make your feet hurt and if they don't fit properly, they can even cause damage and make your feet ugly.
It would be better for everyone if you wore tennis shoes instead.
These responses from guys saying women should be more natural, hmm ok.. but men are more likely to approach a woman who is dressed up... hair, makeup, nails, jewelry than one who isn't
Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone I was making a casual comment on a general observation. It seems most guys on Reddit prefer women with little to no makeup. It's been interesting reading responses.
ITT: tons of things men assume Women do to impress them and not just because they like looking cute.
Tan lines
Majority of my female friends obsess over tan lines and get super self conscious over them, but if I’m being honest I think most guys can agree that we do not care if you have a beach bod tan or a farmers tan, as long as your skin doesn’t look like you spent the last decade in a dark room, you’re probably fine.
You're gonna get a different answer depending on who you ask, but I for one adore really tall women. Especially if they're taller than me.
I used to care. I did try to go for taller women because being tall myself I thought I'd be more attractive to them than someone shorter. Definitely didn't make a difference. Now I don't care about height. The person is way more important!
True. My college girlfriend went after me because I was tall. When she dumped me three years later, I was exactly the same height.
Load More Replies...Tall women are a pain in the neck. Short women are a pain in the lower back. You need someone who's just right.
As a tall guy it would have helped my back if I had married a tall woman.
When girls lie about their height to seem shorter, like in 6'4. Idc of you're 4'11 or 5'9 you're short to me either way.
My college girlfriend thought that a woman being tall was unattractive to guys. She tell people she was 5'8" but when pressed admitted to 5'10. Pictures of her standing next to me in flat shoes establish that she was at least 6' tall. She must have gotten over it. She married a guy she towers over.
One of my cousins, when asked how tall she was, would often say 5'-12" (and she was).

I dont know why you've been down voted for this. I think it would be great if everyone had the confidence to be authentic and people stopped trying to control, fix or change their partners.
