Thoughts constantly swirl around in our heads. From when we open our eyes in the morning until we close them at night (and sometimes, even after that), there's always something for us to contemplate about.

In fact, a 2020 study suggests people typically have more than 6,000 thoughts per day. That's a lot. And as much as we'd like to believe otherwise, not all of them are brilliant. So with social media allowing us to instantly share whatever crosses our mind, we broadcast quite a lot of funny, weird, and infuriating personal takes, too.

To illustrate just how random our statements can be, we at Bored Panda put together a new publication on the subreddit whose sole mission is to capture the chaotic side of human interaction. Continue scrolling to check out its latest finds and fire up our earlier piece on it when you're done.

To learn more about our inner filters, we contacted Phil Reed, D.Phil., who is a professor of psychology at Swansea University.

"There are many reasons why people overshare," Dr. Reed told Bored Panda. "A lack of awareness about the dangers is one, but also the lack of 'real' social feedback online is a big contributor. Since there is a degree of anonymity, certain a lack of immediate feedback, people tend to get it wrong in terms of sharing."

However, even though the reasons why people overshare may vary, the act itself seems pretty much universal. Also, researchers from The University of Edinburgh and Northwestern University in Illinois found that the risk of oversharing in conversation actually increases as people age.

When testing 100 people from 17 to 84 years old on their attention skills, the researchers discovered that the older subjects provided listeners with more irrelevant details than their younger peers. As this behavior can be dangerous — older people, for example, might accidentally reveal private info to strangers looking to take advantage — this finding is essential in helping "design targeted training that helps older adults improve these skills and avoid embarrassing and potential risky communicative errors,” said lead researcher Madeleine Long, of the University of Edinburgh's School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences.

I feel the same about these appeal shows that they have on TV. Lots of celebrities virtue-signalling about how they are working the night for free as they try to guilt you into donating part of your rent to charity. Don't get me wrong, we give to local charities when we can afford to and they do some brilliant work. But I will not tolerate some rich TV star trying to make me feel guilty about keeping a roof over our head and food on the table. Furthermore, and this bit is horrible but it needs telling, a poor elderly lady killed herself in the UK a couple of years ago because she couldn't afford to give to every appeal directed her way. Every penny she had was sunk into charity appeals and when the money ran out she felt so bad that she had to end her life. Literally killed by kindness.

Dr. Reed said people should be very wary of oversharing. "It can compromise personal security, and personal safety, as well as lead to bullying."

"It can also make people very vulnerable psychologically; if they are feeling low, overshare to get support, and are attached for it, then depression can set in."

To keep ourselves in check, Dr. Reed suggests treating communication on the internet the same as in real life.

"Remember, online is just as much of a social interaction as in the real world," he said. "Do not share anything online that you would not in real life. People can get a little impulsive with their digital interactions, so just remember that. Perhaps count to 10 before sharing."

But if you are bothered by another person who starts to give you too much information, psychotherapist Amy Morin says your first line of defense should be to change the subject.

For instance, try saying, 'Sorry to hear that. Have you heard the weather for tomorrow?' Sometimes people will take the hint, but you may need a more direct approach if the other person continues to overshare.

The key in such situations is to not reciprocate. Just because your boss tells you she's going through a divorce, that doesn't mean you need to tell her about your marital problems as well.

While sharing your personal stories can be empowering, you should do that at the right time, in the right place, and with the right people.

There are several "developments" where I live that have shops/restaurants/small offices on the ground level, & 2-3 more levels that are apartments or condos. And there are more being built in our area. I couldn't live like that, but apparently it works for some people!

I prefer refurbishing buildings that are still in stable and salvageable condition. Instead of cutting down woodland areas—-and destroying their ecosystems—-to break new ground further out of town, why not just reuse and repurpose existing buildings in town? Another thing we should do is seize apartments, condos, and houses that were bought by people who never intend to occupy them—-ostensibly as “investments”, but you know, actually for money laundering—-and turn them into affordable housing for average working people. Some could also be earmarked as housing for the homeless, while other properties could be job training centers for them, as well as assisted living for those with mental health issues that require monitoring—-not locking them away, but giving them eventual independence, while monitoring them to keep them showing up for therapy and taking their meds. Possibly with monthly visits to make sure that continues (what happens is many people with mental health issues start feeling great and enjoying their independence, then thinking they’re cured and don’t need their meds and therapy anymore, which starts them sliding backwards instead of moving forward).

Im in Phoenix az. I live right by a very large dead mall. Unfortunately it is also an area overflowing with homeless people. This would be a great idea but its not feasible. Who will clean up after them? (You should see the areas where the pop up their tents they leave trash everywhere) Who will supply the food and cook? Who will police this dead mall so it isnt just a ripped apart inside, wires being stolen to sell. It couldnt work with out major oversight. Safly.

It wouldn't just be opening the dead mall to the homeless. It would require allocating funding to make it functional housing and to run it just as traditional homeless shelters require but would be permanent housing unlike homeless shelters. Not sure why you assume all or the majority of homeless or low income people wouldn't take care of their residence if they had one. Where is the incentive for keeping things tidy at home when your home is a tent in a vacant lot or under a bridge? It's not like they have trash collection etc. as with an actual residence.

This is an excellent idea. Another idea would be to turn them into facilities for Alzheimer's patients. Start out with regular semi-independent living in apartments with shopping and entertainment facilities on campus. Then, as their abilities become reduced, they move from independent living to co-operative living, then graduate into full care. All without leaving the facility; just moving to different areas designed for different needs...

An excellent idea, but all those dead malls are owned by some company who is probably using the property as a massive business tax write off. The renovation would cost them money, then the homeless wouldn't be earning them money, so it will never happen.

There's a dead mall in the Houston area where that was floated as an idea. Most of the community agreed with the idea, but the actual politicians and various other movers/shakers who could make it happen got cold feet, because "no good could come from" giving the homeless shelter and food. Sigh.

While it is a great idea on paper, unfortunately that takes money and inflation needs to be handled first. After all, that is the root problem of the skyrocketing poverty and homelessness. I say address the root problem so these people can work and have real homes.

When the producers and media criticized her for it, she just said "live with it" and gave Duncan more airtime (they canceled her show soon after). She also advocated for gay marriage and LGBT rights although being straight herself, and also was an animal rights activist.

I tripled my salary moving from teaching high school STEM (physics) to my current role as an engineer. Stress and work hours are only a bit less but it is much more flexible.

I can relate to this. Insuring my family of four would cost me 1/3 of my income. This is with my employer paying half of my premiums. If I need to use the insurance, I would have a $15,000 deductible before anything happens.

Though not to know what to do with oneself just because the other person is gone isn't healthy either. You're an individual in a relationship, not an appendage to your partner.

This story started from a web channel called Mega TV and is unsubstantiated by any reliable source. There were cases of Antivaxxers who faked their vaccination card, several are being prosecuted under Greek law and risk a fine equivalent to 6000$. If this story was true, the doctors would have their medical practice license revoked for administering a treatment without consent and faking medical records.

You could make it more american by adding that no pregnant women are allowed to be involved in designing those developments, and that all schools in those developments must only have one door for the active shooter.

It isn't luck. It's causation. They caused it. They obstructed change. They have been courted by the right. They exchanged our future as long as they got what they wanted. I'm Gen X btw. I have lived through every Republican majority that deregulated financial rules. SNL scandal, Dot Com bust, Housing Bust, the Great Recession, Hyper Inflation. The rights formula always fails, yet is always repeated. The Boomers stopped healthcare reform while demanding higher benefits, they have been the worst, most entitled generation ever. There are so many problems now, it can't be fixed. It would take a unified effort and the formula to keep us fragmented to prevent that is simple. This group wants something normal (marriage, freedom from racism, sexism, immigration, etc.). That will hurt you by (BS reason). Vote for me to stop them. The politics of hate is why the US is a joke. It's why we are struggling. The problem is too big now. And the country is too spiteful to fix it.

I checked uo on the story and thankfully it has a happy ending, but yeah, f**k you, you hopefully fired m**********r: "After the crash, an emergency room doctor told Harper, who was 2 months pregnant at the time, that "not all pregnancies are viable" and that he could not detect a heartbeat, her lawyer, Andrew Norwood, told BuzzFeed News on Friday. The next day, however, a doctor detected a heartbeat, and Harper, who had spent years trying to get pregnant, is now the mother of a 4-month-old baby girl."
