2 Billion In Gross Profit
And 350 for the CEO who gets 350 times the average wage.
Load More Replies...I'm glad I didn't work anywhere corporate! We've brought our own food everywhere I've worked but that's small charities and social care where there's never spare cash. Also it was self organised; no higher management were ever consulted.
Load More Replies..."i brought donuts and then decided to eat them in my car. It was my donuts, not yours."
Disgusting! They're also supposed to buy their own donuts? Bet ya the CEO got a $5 million bonus , while the real working stiffs get stale donuts. Tell them where they can put those donuts!
I will bring and eat my own donuts, that I bought and paid for. I will share them, with whom I choose. Management can go buy their own d**n donuts.
Popular Sandwich Chain Had This Tip Sign
Not legal. I had a boss who did this and she AND her husband scalped our cash tips too!
It depends on where you are and when the picture was taken. In the UK that would have been legal until a couple of years ago. There was a scandal when it was publicised that a lot of restaurants, iincluding Jamie Oliver's chain were pocketing all or part of staff tips. Others shared tip between waiting and kitchen staff so that everyone got the same. Restaurants were suddenly full of customers who wanted to know exactly what happened to their tips or tipped in cash. Tips don't count as part of wages though.
Load More Replies...It’s embezzlement. We had a celebrated chef open a seafood restaurant on our island a while back. For whatever reason the GM was doing this unbeknownst to the chef, who was mostly just the name on the building rather than actively working. They had an “executive chef” who ran the day-to-day back of house, who ignored the complaints against the GM. They shut down within 18 months after making headlines for embezzling worker-earned tips & bogus service charges.
Try paying your staff a living wage instead of them having to rely on tips.
That is some serious wage theft going on there. Owner may soon be ex-owner.
I'm no expert, but it's possible this isn't illegal. The owner can argue that any tips given through the card machine are tips to the establishment, not an individual. They can't make that argument for cash tips handed to the employee though. A surprising number of establishments play these sort of games and it's not just an injury to the employee, it's also an insult to the customer who tipped.
It was legal in the UK until a couple of years ago. Plenty of people are still boycotting Jamie Oliver
Load More Replies...I started using Instacart long before Covid. Then I heard that they were reducing driver pay based on tips (ie, you tip it is counted towards their pay so the company could give them less). After that I started tipping in cash only, told them I knew what was going on and that as far as Instacart was concerned I was cheap while handing them a $20 or some such. Some of them literally cried when they realized their customers knew and were responding in their favour. (Though my favourite is the guy who delivered during a snowstorm. I'd ordered two days earlier and had completely forgotten he was coming until I got the notice he'd started shopping. I ran out to shovel so he could get up the walkway and then handed him $25 as a thank you. He was flabbergasted. I felt good the rest of the night. :D)
Being A Nurse Right Now Has Its Perks
My wife is a mental health nurse in the U.K. She's never been given free snacks. She did enjoy seeing people standing on their doorstep, clapping like seals every Thursday evening while she drove off to yet another Covid-riddled shift on the ward...
In 2021, we saw the Great Resignation, where millions of employees said “enough is enough” and left their jobs in search of higher salaries, better opportunities and a healthier work-life balance. But according to Universum, this trend isn’t completely over, as recent research shows that we’re entering the Great Re-Resignation.
As it turns out, 36% of highly skilled professionals in Europe are considering quitting their jobs this year. And when it comes to why employees are jumping ship, being forced to return to the office is a significant factor. Workers also aren’t happy with having stagnant wages and lack of growth opportunities in their careers.
I'm Pretty Sure My Boss Started Using Spyware To Screen Capture My Laptop. So I Left This Up
I work from home because they couldn't find anyone who can do my job in the state they are.I think my boss hates not being able to micro manage me, but consistently gets on my case about things and then says he's not trying to micro manage me. I'm in a highly specialized tech role and the only one here that can do my job, so they literally need me not that I need them.
This morning, I had an update for my laptop. Not unusual. We have very high security and it's always something being added. It ran quickly. Didn't require a restart. I thought nothing of it. Hours later I realize that every maybe 20 or 30 minutes, my monitors kind of blink, like they go black for half a second, and make a tone. It took me too long admittedly to realize it's probably a screen capture. They installed spyware on my laptop to see what I'm doing.
So I have had this on 1 of my screens for the last few captures. If I'm wrong, well, no one sees it but me (and you). But if I'm right, well I'm getting fired anyway so who cares about calling them out to their faces.
Most WFH monitoring software is no different from spyware, almost all the rest is unmodified spyware. Why I do freelance over WFH and won't accept any job that uses any monitoring software. Having a network security engineer for a partner means that they won't ever let any of that in the house let alone into a position of compromising a network.
Do you have a specific private network for the work computer not to mix it with the rest?
Load More Replies...Not being able to micromanage is the #1 reason bosses want employees back in the office.
Yeah most defo a bloody stupid idea right 😂cos they can do more damage than the boss can !
Load More Replies...It does show a lack of trust, but if it's the company 's laptop then they can install anything they like on it. If it's your laptop though, that's entirely different.
Just because something is legal doesn't make it ethical.

😂😂😂ouchy hehehe , I’d be reporting that to hr !! Can’t be legal surely
If it is the company's computer,,it is what it is. If it is actually your personal computer, well then, that may be a different story. Depending on, if you read everything, before you signed off, as reading it.
Even if it is the company's computer they still should absolutely not invade their privacy like this

I’m allowed to clock in when I do complimentary training sessions with my clients. When I opened the app to do so today, I noticed the 9.5 hours I worked from last week were removed. In the grand scheme of things, it’s not much. But it’s the principle of it. They manipulated me into staying late every day, and then deleted the hours without even letting me know.
And yes, I do plan on quitting. Currently trying to figure out where I can train my clients in the meantime.
Totally illegal. Some of my co-workers suddenly got some back pay because of c**p like this, and yes, it was to avoid a lawsuit.
Load More Replies...Right lol , it’s Essentially a whole day 😳🤦♀️so yup it’s A BIG THING
Load More Replies...Unless they signed a non compeat clause. Then you can't.
Load More Replies...Dear HR, it's in your best interest to reinstate and pay my hours lest the labour board come visiting.
Universum’s data also found that many employees are unhappy with their current company’s lack of investment in training and development. It’s difficult to find any motivation to stay in their current positions if they could be in the exact same spot five years down the road.
At the same time, many workers’ priorities have shifted in recent years. Nowadays, having flexible working hours, the option to work from home and an opportunity for a healthier work-life balance are invaluable to employees. Gone are the days when people lived to work; most of us today are simply working to live.
The Fun-Police
Well, Minions work for evil people sooo…
Load More Replies...Honestly I’ve never understood this mindset. Why can’t work be an enjoyable time? I spend 1/3 of my day there, I don’t want to act like a miserable robot. As long as my work gets done, who cares if I’m having a good time or not?
Actually, it's been scientifically proven that happy people with healthy coworker relationships are far more productive than those who do not socialize. Want good staff, they need to trust each other and the boss!! They need to smile, and laugh.
Load More Replies...I'm all for not discussing non-work related topics. I'm there to do my job, not be your friend. But I also understand that this is my personal preference, and others enjoy making friends with your co-workers.
He's right, though. There is definitely nothing fun about working here.

I honestly liked my work environment up until now. We got switched to a different district, so now we have a different district manager. I get that everything on here is pretty much industry standard at this point, but she really gets the point across that we are not people to her. She's worse in person.
The waste s**t pisses me off. If you are just going to throw it away, then give it away. Wonder why people suffer food insecurity when we have perfectly good food being tossed in the dumpster.
Except...if I want to take a free pizza home, I make a mistake on an order. That's my free pizza. It happens all the time: let staff take/eat mistakes/extras there is more mistakes/extras. The cheater who would make that mistake pie to eat makes the business have a policy like this, where edible food is tossed.
Load More Replies...When the rules violate laws, they’re not legitimate rules. Hence, not all rules are rules. More importantly, a bottom line revenue is much higher with happy employees. Where we work, we’ve eliminated employee theft by giving them any product (soft & hard good, food & beverage) we don’t use & would go to waste. We spend less in incentivizing them & fostering a healthy & joyful environment than we lost in destroyed/damaged goods or theft. Make it mutually beneficial and everyone will benefit! That’s our mantra.
Load More Replies...I once worked for a bread company, and they allowed us to take and eat one of whatever bread that did not sold in office hour. They used to give us three items and let us take it home, but someone sold the take home bread which turned out expired and poison someone and the company hetting sued. Now wre only allowed to eat one and eat it in office hour and no take home allowed. Some ridiculous rules sometimes started from a serious case...
Where do you live, because I was told in legal studies in Australia that despite the rumour about people suing after getting sick, there has never been a successful case of it. I thought I was told this was true for US too.
Load More Replies...In all fairness, we have no idea if the employees of this place were taking advantage, hence the "rules" reminder.
Yeah, I wonder if people were taking food meant for events instead of waiting for leftovers
Load More Replies...About not allowing employees to take home or eat food (stale or not), it may firstly be because of rules regarding hygiene etc, and secondly employees might abuse it and make wrong orders on purpose. A better way would be to maybe give it to a homeless shelter, like we did where I used to work.
First, stop masking the identity of the business, we deserve to know just who these generous people are.
Well, to h€ll with the employees paid so low they can’t afford food. Throw the edible food out!! Let them eat Cake! Nevermind. Throw that out too. @wholefoods @wegmans
Founder Feels Pride Having Zero Work Life Balance
I mean, if that's the culture, then yes, I'd appreciate the transparency, so I can end the interview and go home.
Be nicer if they just put that on the job posting. Still wasting my time to find out at the interview.
Load More Replies...I'm not sure what country this is in, but in the UK the most obvious pitfall is that these working hours are illegal.
And they're still getting people to work for them? How far down are these applicants?
Desperation, and they may pay big money to entice people into the place.
Load More Replies...It does rather remind me of those lists incels etc come up with of the only type of woman that they'd consider having a relationship with. Please stay in the basement with your ridiculous ideas and let the rest of us get on with actual life.
Load More Replies...If pay is actually commensurate with the expectations then fine. Minimum should be 100k.
Per month? Perhaps then.. but like 14 h at work each day. No thanks! 🙅♂️😬🤒🔥
Load More Replies...If the pay is hourly, I'd stick it out for a while to garner the overtime pay. Where I am now I've transitioned from a field only position to 85% office 15% field. I've managed to stay hourly even though salary has been offered. I get about 5 hours OT a week in the office but average 30 hours of OT in the field working outages. So far it has worked to my advantage.
We’ve all heard of “quiet quitting,” but have you heard of “revenge quitting”? According to Harper’s Bazaar, this is the latest trend that employees around the world are hopping onto. This is when employees reach a point of feeling so burnt out, frustrated and dissatisfied with their positions that they simply decide one day that they can’t take it anymore. While some experts advise that workers don’t make any snap decisions and quit at the drop of a hat, the relief that comes from knowing you’re finally free from a toxic work environment can be priceless.
LinkedIn Profile Post From A Recruiter That Reached Out About A Remote Role
I will not be applying.
It's delusional to think this is not deception. And it's also delusional to think he would be able to build a team based on this tactic.
Load More Replies...That you have to keep telling yourself "it's not deception", then it probably is.
If you change it from remote to in office after I have accepted the job, then that is fraud. I will walk away and burn you online.
I'd take the job and then not show up. I got obsurdly low-balled(to the point of insult) once. The owner made it seem like he was doing me a favor. So I spend all his money on druga nd background checks and never showed.
"It's not deception, it's strategy". Lying toad ... and, anyone who has to tell you that his decisions are 'outright genius', isn't one. This needs copying and posting round the entire opposition, every single firm - and to all your suppliers and customers, so they can see what your boss' word is worth.
I really want to sue this guy in negligent misrepresentation or even fraud.
"it's not lying/deception - it's strategy": DUH, your *strategy* IS lying. The terms are not mutually exclusive. I wonder what kind of people will be staying in that "winning team" after being lied to, for how long they'll stay, and what is supposed to motivate them - because it's clearly not management/office culture, it's not the WFH option any more, and it's unlikely to be money.
I Quit With 100 Hours Of PTO. They Changed My Hourly Rate To $1 A Hour
I quit my job, I put my two weeks and fulfilled it. I left on good terms, never really used my PTO, so I thought I would have a nice paycheck after I quit. Only to find out my 100 hours of PTO was not my hourly rate of $20.50 and a hourly rate of $1 per hour.
Just a friendly reminder to use your PTO. I would have used all my PTO before I quit.
If this is the US, they don't technically have to pay out unused PTO at all. My last two jobs didn't as a policy. So I always make sure to use every last hour I've earned before putting in my two weeks
Yes, but if they do pay it it has to be under the same terms. Reducing the rate of pay is wage theft and illegal in the US.
Load More Replies...Rookie move. Schedule all your PTO, take it, quit when you get back.
But...If their SOP/SOG states that they pay out full rate for PTO, and this is what they did, and you have paystubs from previous PTO usage pay, then this is actually illegal. Because, they cannot pay you, below State/Federal Minimum Wage. Also, some states may have laws against this type of maneuvering, too.
In the US, some companies are offering unlimited PTO. The catch here is that when you leave the company, you don't get any PTO pay.
Yes I have that. There are many more catches. Like the fact you will never get raises and promotions if you actually USE your "unlimited" PTO. Most people take next-to-no time off when given this benefit, it's a career -limiting maneuver.
Load More Replies...When I left one employer, they overpaid me for PTO left over. How am I sure? I wrote the provision covering it in the union contract.
I worked for a medical billing company as an assistant supervisor. I would (whisper) to people in our department that if they didn't use it, they'd lose it. Didn't care when upper management complained people were calling out sick.
That is totally illegal in Australia. Also minimum wage is over $20 / hour. WTF is wrong americans who put up with this. Wage war on it FFS.
In the uk pto is paid at your hourly rate. If you're paid by the day it has to be the daily rate. Employment laws people!
I worked for a company that didn't pay out PTO. So people would put in their notice for three weeks out, take two or more weeks of PTO, and show up for a couple of days at the end. It made it really hard for the needed knowledge transfer or project debriefs before they left. It was a dumb policy.
$90,000,000 In Sales And This Target Store Rewarded The Workers With Cupcakes
They are struggling, but the CEO is a Trumper and doesn't seem to care.
Load More Replies...I worked stocking shelves back in the late 80s at Target. At my first performance review, I got like a 99% and the manager told me nobody else had gotten such a good review since he worked there. I got a $0.05 raise (yes, 5 cents) - the same raise that everyone got at this milestone. I started working less hard after that. I still did my job, nothing nefarious, but I didn't work nearly as hard.
Sounds like they got what they paid for. Good for you standing up for yourself.
Load More Replies...Don’t shop there any more. DEI boycott in effect until attitudes Change.
I can't make the sign focus. What's it say? Cupcakes are for display only?
They're for management, workers have to bring their own.
Load More Replies...One of the biggest factors pushing employees away from their current jobs is the feeling of being burnt out. In fact, a recent survey from Moodle found that a whopping 66% of workers in the U.S. are experiencing burnout. This stems from a variety of reasons, including not having enough time to complete tasks, not having the resources to properly do their jobs, worrying about the economy being poor, being expected to take on too much labor due to shortages and worrying about how AI will impact careers.
Why Do People Do This?
We are extremely tight on money and people at my girlfriend's job stole her food.
I have never, and will never, understand people who steal food from a work fridge. Unless something specifically has a note saying "help yourself!" if it's not something I brought I don't eat it. It's pretty d**n simple!
I worked more than 20 years in various offices and, no matter how late I worked or hungry I got, I *never* took food that anyone else brought in. The last firm I worked in, it was always, ALWAYS one of the partners who stole the secretaries’ food. Three houses and a yacht, but can’t afford to buy his own sandwich, apparently. I do not miss office life.
Load More Replies...One day I found my burger in pieces across one of the tables in the staff break room, with more on the floor. No, my dear, that's not ketchup, that's Tabasco with extra chili powder mixed into it. And those green things aren't pickles.
A medic I knew when I was in the army told me that when he was in Iraq, someone kept stealing his food from the fridge in the medic tent. So he got some syringes and injected a diuretic (a d**g which removes fluid from the body) into a load of sausage rolls. The next day, he has a soldier approach him to explain that he can't hold any water in, every time he drinks, it goes straight through him. My mate saw to him and then told him to keep away from the medic's fridge...Never mess with people that work with d***s for a living!
Someone stole my ready meal from the FREEZER AND it had my name on it! Who the heck does that?
Someone who shares the same name and has a really poor memory?
Load More Replies...Food theft happens in every workplace. I can't help thinking these people must steal other things also. But this to me is the worst , you know these people and have face to face interaction with them! My job payed well and was a decent work enviroment, no one should have had to steal food or resent their coworkers enough to do itas revenge.
I had this happen once and once only. From then on I took an insulated lunch bag with ice bricks in and and no longer used the work fridge for personal food. When a manager asked my why I was taking up desk space with a lunch bag I simply said I don’t tolerate theft and not only will I not use the fridge I’m keeping my food in plain sight at all times unless they put up cameras and discipline people with theft the same as they would if they were stealing from the company. That was the end of the discussion and I was never asked again… Funny that
Surprised My Girlfriend With Baked Goods And Flowers Before She Went To Work, And Her Co-Workers Ate Them All
Unprompted, straight up just snagged them from her area and ate em, extremely rude.
Well, if you enter my area, and take something that I brought in myself, without my permission, that is theft. And then we got a whole different issue.
A bank I worked for, the tellers gave a bridal shower for one of the tellers. When the teller was loading up everything in her car afterwards, she inadvertently left what was left of the cake on the roof of her car and it fell off as she left the lot. When she got home she called back to see if anyone fond it. The head teller and her assistant found it alright, they saw it happen, picked up the cake and ate the whole thing between the 2 of them.
I Emailed HR After Noticing A Pay Error. This Was Their Response
That works out to a 1.1% pay raise. The new rate should be $28.99 (10% of $26.35 is $2.64, add those to get the total. Payroll is being deliberately obtuse and banking on the fact that many people can’t work out the math themselves. Unethical and unjust, no doubt directed by higher ups.
A rise of 0.1%, in fact. I'd put this one down to a genuine, albeit ridiculous, mistake, as someone has just put the 0.10 into the calculation, which would be correct on its own, (as 10/100), then also divided it by a hundred for a second time. Hanlon's Razor applies.
Load More Replies...I've had a job that was like you get a raise! They gave me seven cents.
Whoever sent this email should not be doing any work related to money (or anything else that involves numbers).
Because employees are demanding better working environments, companies are facing new challenges that they haven’t had to worry about before. Gallup warns that many workers’ performance might be impacted by how detached they’re becoming from their jobs. And the tragic state of the current job market is leading to more frustrated and dissatisfied employees. In fact, employee life evaluation has recently hit a record low in the United States.
Company Enforced Monthly 2 Hour Drive Into The Office To Improve Collaborative Working. Nobody Else Showed Up
Is this a come in once a month, but we won't tell you which day, kind of thing?
My company just switched from WFH during COVID, which we did for almost 3 years with no problems, to 2 days in the office, to 3 days in the office and now to 4 days in the office. Gee, I wonder what's next...
The last place I worked for did the exact same thing conveniently after I was hired. But the kicker is, it wasn't for the executives nor HR. And the reasoning was that they wanted to foster a more collaborative work environment. It was a office full of agitated people a good portion of the time.
Load More Replies...A 2-hour drive isn't going to make me want to increase collaboration with anyone, except maybe my therapist. So stupid.
I can't understand why no one showed up. It's a beautiful, fulfilling workspace.
I think the bigger problem here is that they are not liked by other staff members & not told that everyone else isn't coming in.
THE PORTLAND, OREON IS FORCING STAFF TO TAKE THE BUS TO WORK. I'M ONE OF MANY THAT NOW HAVE 4 HR ROUND TRIP TO WORK. THIS ALL BECAUSE ALL REMOTE WORKERS WHERE CALLED BACK TO THE OFFICE. WHWEN I DROVE MYSELF IT WAS 1.5HRS ROUND TRIP.
Is This Normal For A Work Place?
No I completely get this I mean look , across an entire month this adds up to 9 whole minutes ,that's like 22.5 seconds a day on average , imagine what you could do with that time!

My Dad’s 20-Year Work Anniversary Card
My dad’s been a laborer with his company for 20 years. To congratulate him they give him a card with an attached gift card. The card just said: “You’re egg-cellent.”
I think it might be a cattle ranch, because that’s some Grade-A BS.
Load More Replies...My dad stayed with the same company from his early 20s. The company had a brochure that employees could choose a gift after certain time spent working with them. When he'd done 20 years, he got a microwave oven (way back in the 1980s when they weren't that common in the UK, so it would have been a couple hundred pounds value). At 30 years, he got a colour TV set. The company was then taken over by another, and by the time he reached 40 years employment, he got a £5 book token. He retired a couple years later, and got another £5 book token. They asked him if he'd be willing to stay on because there were so many people leaving "for no obvious reason" management claimed, and he took the opportunity to tell them exactly why they were losing staff.
Well, how much was the gift card worth? Some people are better with gifts than they are with words. When I retired, the nice "quiet" manager gave me a Target gift card for $200. The manager that gave me the most trouble over the years gave me a long, but insincere toast to my retirement and a Starbucks gift card with like $7.32 on it (obviously a re-gifted card).
At least he got a card. I got... nothing. Not even a congratulatory email.
He got a card with a gift card. Must be nice. When I hit 20 years at my job, it wasn't even recognized.
You totally invalidated this story. Why is OP even complaining?

And when it comes to how employees feel about their managers, many say that they’re receiving far too little recognition for accomplishments and feedback on their performance.

Why Does Corporate Think This Is Ok?
In the USA, this is dependent on each state. There are 50 different policies regarding this. For example, in my 2 states, as long as someone has a doctors note they can take sick leave. They also have the right to take a medical leave of absence for themselves or immediate family. That’s not questionable anywhere. However, most rank & file file employees are “at will,” means they can be terminated without cause. However, if there is cause such as discrimination of a protective class or manufacturing reasons to terminate, they can file a complaint with both their state and the federal government for wrongful termination. This post is probably a retail job or food and beverage/hospitality, where there are specific dates that really do need all employees working. Those, of course,, would be certain holidays or days around them. For example, Mother’s Day for a restaurant that serves brunch. If you work for a good employer or a cooperatively owned business, you won’t see this cráp.

I have 2 kids who work in the food industry, they're the worst examples of this policy. My kid had severe stomach ache, could barely move while working at Mc D, they refused to let him go home. He started throwing up and it wasn't until he threw up in a trash can next to the register that they let him go home. Kid got home, got him settled, after a while he said he thinks he needs a dr. Rush him to the ER, appendix ready to burst. Again, he had appendicitis and McD managers (there was a shift change) refused to let him go home until he started throwing up in front of customers.

Newer employee were on the bottom of the list but... it didn't matter. They'd still not show up or throw a fit if they were scheduled. There has to be a reasonable expectation of working on busy days. Businesses would fail. If you people would stop going there on those days the merchant would realize it's not profitable enough to keep open! Our gas station/retail store's busiest days of the year were thanksgiving and christmas. I get some professions require this: Pilots, medical staff, people who supply gas to emergency vehicles... But the only reason these other places stay open is because YOU GO. So stop! That being said, if you know this going into the job, I don't blame the company. The Break Room At Work
It's just the break room in the serial killer's house.

Way to destroy someone's morality. This is a walk-in horror chamber.
I would LOVE a breakroom like this. I'd bring in a zero gravity recliner chair and take a nap on my lunches. I don't need anything fancy, just a cool place to sleep
So if you happen to find yourself in a toxic work environment, what can you do about that? Healthline says it’s important to first recognize that it’s not your fault. You’re not causing the negativity in your workplace, so don’t feel responsible for fixing it. Now, it may be helpful to take your lunch break outside or in a private location away from the stress of work. And remember to set boundaries to keep your work-life balance as healthy as possible. Try to minimize how much you think and talk about work in your free time.
My Company Filed For Bankruptcy And Refuses To Pay Us
They forced us to do overtime, I had 94 hours in a two week period and on last Friday, April 11th, on pay day they decided to lay us all off and refuse to pay any of us. Then filed chapter 11 bankruptcy. I have like 8 coworkers and they have kids and family they can't support now with no job and more importantly no paycheck.
The company refuses to talk to us. We have reported them to the department of labor. They weren't helpful at all. We were government contractors providing security for a site they were building. But now we have no finacial security of our own.
The picture above is my last pay day. To prove they didn't pay us on April 11th like they were suppose to. Apparently the company was talking about suing us for slander for speaking against them. They got money for lawyers but not to pay us.
You'll be paid along with all their other creditors, and not for a while
Good luck on that...........employees are usually the last to get paid in bankruptcy.

Go public -tell the local newspaper. Nothing forces employers to pay up like bad press.
Depending on what type of bankruptcy is filled, generally all employer creditors are paid first. Employees last.
Load More Replies...Oh... so they took a page right out TTO's "Chapter 11 for Profit" playbook. Then other companies should also be able to. S/

It’s also important to stay out of the drama that may be taking place in your office. Stay focused on yourself and your own goals, Healthline recommends. And make sure that you have some sort of ritual or relaxation plan to ensure you can decompress after a long day at work. Find a few key trusted coworkers if you can, and minimize interactions with anyone you consider toxic. And if the environment is taking a huge toll on you or your mental health, don’t be afraid to start planning your exit.

Load More Replies...This does indeed meet the guidelines for an unsafe work environment, and you absolutely have federal protection in the USA to refuse to work in an unsafe work environment. Any action taken against you monetarily or related to your status at work would be considered retaliation. You would not need a lawyer to sue. You can file a complaint with your state’s fair employment agency for the federal department and an investigator will reach out to you. This typically gets resolved thru mediation, the employer getting a small fine, OSHA quiz training for employer and you without a job or at least an uncomfortable one.
But you’re still without a job. Because you dared to complain and they fired you. Do you not see a problem here?

McDonald's Will Reward You For Working 30 Long Years With $300
Picked up a part time second job to pay down credit cards/save for a vacation and saw this in the break room. This is a franchise, so I’m not sure if this is normal for McDonald's or not. Absolutely. If those trays fall on someone straight after coming out of the oven they're going to get injured. I'd go with health and safety authority to start with. After you get their reply take it to your line manager (who quite possibly also is sick of not being able to get these trolleys replaced) as ammunition for them to go up the chain. My Job Won't Allow Me To Sit Down At My Desk, Even Though There's A Chair, That I'm Also Not Allowed To Move
Worked at a tier 1 auto supplier. One day we came in and all chairs on the line were gone. We used them during gaps in the line and AFTER cleaning the area during the downtime. Me and a couple other guys went upstairs when supervisors were in a meeting up front, and removed ALL the chairs in the line office. The main guy's chair was put on the top rack in the warehouse. "Suppose you don't know what happened to them?".."nope". Our chairs were returned, so were theirs (Union shop).

Tell me you work in the US without telling me you work in the US. Cashiers, tellers, and all other non-labor jobs here in Spain are allowed to SIT because Spain isn't brutal and cruel.

Office Heat Is Broken. They Aren’t Letting Us Work From Home
I was a teacher until I had to go on disability. I had a back injury and standing on my feet got progressively worse. I was constantly reprimanded for sitting down. I worked in an office that got so cold I brought in my own electric radiator and used it as a chair. Water would literally freeze on our desks.
I worked at an all-male computer services company. The thermostat broke and they got into a pissing contest to see who would "wimp out" and call the repair guy first. Spoiler alert--it was the 23 yr old receptionist (aka yours truly) who wimped out. Lol
Went home when that happened 2 weeks ago. I'm not going to,sit in an office without power due to a storm taking out the power for a huge part of town while they fix it. Storm was Saturday night. Power was not fully restored to that part of town until noon Monday. We did have emergency generators but they did not connect to air conditioning. We are a healthcare facility. It was amusing that the lab equipment is connected to emergency power then shut down because the room was above the safe operating temperature.
I would say, call OSHA, but I don't think they survived the DOGE cuts.
Other than the states that support Trump, I am sure not having heat is illegal

PTO Provided A "Nacho Bar" For Us Teachers On Cinco De Mayo, During Teacher Appreciation Week
So, Jessica Muse, usually the school systems provide these, but PTOs can and do. In one district we were provided with ramen one day and a moonpie another. We were told it was because we did not contribute to the hospitality fund. And no offense, if I am dealing with grading your child's papers, handling their emotional issues, sometimes privately assisting them, and in general being present in more ways than I am paid, all while being paid far too little, then yes, this is an insult.

My Job Just Gave Me A Pin Celebrating 5 Years Of Me Working Here. The Company I'm Working At Was Sold And I'm Being Laid Off In A Few Months Because They Don't Want To Pay My Current Wages
A year ago last Valentine's day, I got laid off from my job of 5 years. I have 30+ years experience, and they didn't like the pay rate I was getting. So they replaced me with a person with 3 years experience. In September of the same year, I was called by them to help them with an issue their new guy couldn't fix. I told them I had another job, but I was willing to help, but they have to agree to my terms. I wanted 4X my old hourly rate, with a 4 hour minimum. And the manager that decided he could replace me with someone with a tenth of my experience had to apologize to my face and stand next to me while I did my work. If he left, I stopped working. Needless to say, they didn't accept the terms. Funny part was I already knew what the problem was, and I could have fixed it in 5 minutes.
AutoZone has yearly service pins. They gladly gave me mine until year 10, then suddenly, "it cost too much to give you a 10 year pin" I even offered to pay for it. What makes it expensive? It has a diamond chip in it you need a magnifying glass to see. I had enough of their BS and quit that year.
I Quit My Job At McDonald's And They Haven't Signed My Request To Quit (Sent In March) They Keep Calling Asking Why I Haven't Showed Up To Any Shifts
How do you 'request' to quit? You inform them you are quitting and when, they stop paying you after that date. What are they going to do, come round to your house and carry you to work?
I had to do this at my last job (I'm a computer consultant and it was a professional salaried position). They didn't accept my first request because I didn't include a letter of resignation. Then I submitted it again (I wanted my unused vacation) and just said, "I quit because:" and left a bulleted list of reasons I was quitting. They rejected it again because my last date wasn't in my letter of resignation. The same last date that was in the form I had to fill out online and attach the letter of resignation to. I told them as much, but I don't remember if I filled it out a third time or they just accepted it.

Amazon did that to me some years ago. I quit. I told them I quit. I quit through the app as well. That might not be a "company" coffee pot. Myself and 3 coworkers were sent to a remote building but didn't put in a coffee pot. We chipped in and bought a pot and supplies and it worked well until the brass sent 2 women from the main building for a fulfillment job in our building. One of the women decided that our coffee was too strong for her liking and began pouring out part of the pot and replacing it with water rather than simply putting the water in her cup. We had to resort to some mean sounding signs, etc to keep them from screwing up our coffee. There may be something similar going on here.

Today I was told I am no longer allowed to carry my small water bottle unless I have a doctors note. I explained that I do not drink water infront or around customers. That I have to run and help customers on all 10-11 self scan machines. I could understand if I was a cashier but I didn't think that it was fair to make this new rule after l've worked with the company for two years and never had an issue with my water bottle.
After having a meeting I was told that security has to audit workers and workers leave bottles around so now no one is allowed to carry water unless they have a doctors note stating they need to have water on hand. I asked why my manger was allowed to have a gallon of water on her desk and my 8oz water bottle wasn't allowed. All I was told is the office isn't the main floor and customers don't see it and my water bottle was a personal item. I guess I have to schedule a doctors appointment to have them print a paper stating I need to stay hydrated at my 7-8 hour shifts.
Trouble is, so is sleep, but many firms get all soggy and difficult to light when you doze off in company time.

Hand this over to your union - they'll love it at the bargaining table.
"Want to be paid like an unskilled minion? Act like an unskilled minion." This is capitalist entitlement on a biscuit.
I Got My Yearly Review
Evidently I need to be more excited about working on my day off. It’s a commission job. It does occasionally need attention on off days. But usually it’s something that can easily be addressed by office staff. They’d rather pass the buck and call me when I’m scheduled off.
I foresee - crackle hiss - difficulties with - shshwshsh- your phone when they - sudden silence - call you ?
My Meal Provided By My Company During Christmas Day
This Chair At My Workplace. I Have To Sit Here For 8 Hours A Day
I Was Let Go Yesterday. This Is How I Found Out. The Day Before Was When My Boss Told Me, Via Phone Call, My Traineeship Might Be Terminated. I Had No Inkling Prior To This. No Feedback
'Will not seek to recover any training expenses incurred'?...Well..that's very....generous?
Fantastic! Will you also not break into my house and steal my stuff?

CEO Of A $30bn Indian Company Wants You To Pay For The Privilege Of Working For Him
How is someone supposed to live? The lack of basic common sense is bizarre.
1 lahk of rupees is about $23,000 , btw. I've never seen such a blatant Ponzi scheme ...
This is the maddest one.. No one will be able to top this.. 1 year of no pay and even has to pay to mere join..
How much do they charge not to work there? You probably couldn't afford it.
A Dress Down Weekend At My Grocery Store Job
Paying for a dress down is stupid, but if you're in a customer-facing job, the clothing requirements aren't bad. And if you're on your feet all day, trust me, you DEFINITELY want proper footwear!
17-Year-Old Employee Ends Up In ER Before Scheduled Shift, Her Mother And Grandmother Both Call In On Her Behalf. Still Gets Fired For Not Personally Calling In
It's always the ones who are "praying for you". What insufferable a******s.
"I've been praying for you, and to prove it, you're fired." What country outside China and Russia allows this sort of behaviour? Only one I can think of ...
Was Told Today We Are No Longer Allowed To Use Our Regular Back Packs And Must Instead Use These - Asda Driver
OK, they want to see what you are packing (sort of ;-) ). But it's a rather sad way of antagonising heir staff (on whom, they tell us every year, they rely).
Local Pizza Hut Not Allowing Employee Meals Due To Staff Occasionally Not Charging Customers 25¢ For Extra Ranch
Nobody's going to buy the Pizza Hut if you're giving away ranch for free!
If employee meals are in your contract, this means war. If they aren't, your negotiators didn't do a good job. Contracts cannot be unilaterally altered.
My Company Pulls This Today And Says It's Complying To The New Law
So Illinois passed a new law about vacation and people that work 40 hours must be compensated with vacation time. This goes into effect New years day. Now my company pulls this today and says it's complying to the new law. Should I just look for a new job?
Around here, employers circumvent that sort of law by scheduling people for 37.5 hours per week.
Beats me why they didn't make the qualifying time 500 years ... I wonder if this applies at Manager level ? Maybe it's "lawyer or look around" time ...
America is a joke! I get 29 days paid minimum and i am encouraged to take them (and just bought 14 more)
My Boss Just Assigned A Bunch Of Tasks For Me To Do, & Made Them Due 2 Days Ago
I'm tempted to put in sarcastic comments about the TARDIS having a flat battery, or something, but if your boss *dared* to put a false date on the letter then it's war. If he was stupid enough to send this by email then it's time (!) to reply , quoting the date of the email, making the point that 'you're good, but not good enough to travel above the speed of light and make time go backwards'. Make this a friendly joke if you plan to stay working there, but if he's serious then it's time to freshen up your c.v. (resumé if you're in the US) .
Less Than A Year Into My First Job, And My Company Is Two Weeks Late On Paying Me
I don't know US law but in UK, when this was tried on me, a letter to the finance department threatening Small Claims Court action got my cheque in a rush ...

OSHA? I think in this case you might want to go straight to DoL (and depending on severity, CDC).
Where is this? If it's a place of employment, Health & Safety need to be told about it . Loudly and repeatedly.
My Boss Put A Personal Camera In The Break Room
It doesn’t match to any of the other cameras and my manager said it’s the boss’s personal camera and on his phone. This is a corporate business. I work at Burger King.
That ceiling needs a respray, don't you think? Wear a mask, though, for your personal safety from the spray ...

Load More Replies...Yeah, that's usually the deal. The insurance companies usually require the 90 days before benefits are available.
I believe with this employer, that is their "probationary" period.
Absolutely normal, and was by the time I started full time in the workforce (1990).
Not to be snarky, but didn't you get details of the benefits before you signed in?

English is clearly not your boss' home language ... be sure to allow at least 15 minutes at the end of the day (4.45 - 5.00 if quitting time is at 5) and mark this as "Filling in required documentation"

The USA has some strange employment laws, I’m glad I live in a communist country as the Americans would call it! 🤣
What country? I'm assuming it's not truly communist, but I'm interested in knowing what country Americans (like me) are calling communist. I don't mean this sarcastically as I'm not part of the demographic that goes around calling other countries communist unless, you know, they are.
Load More Replies...It's very depressing that people put up with this. I've had the best experiences, but this was ages ago. AND to destroy all stereotypes, I once worked for two Jewish brothers in the media who would buy me lunch if I worked during lunch hour (I would often do so to get home early); they gave employees bonuses for meeting sales goals; they would stand around the water cooler and gossip with the employees! I was in an alternate universe, or... The rise of the greedy billionaire has not been beneficial for the good'ol US of A.

Even the serfs in the Middle Ages had more rights than the average employee in the USA. Seriously, how come you accept being treated as dispensable trash, to be sucked dry and then discarded? Granted, it took the better part of a century for most countries in Europe to get the labour laws we have now, but you people really need to realise that you can't be a boss or have a business without employees.
OMG as an employer for over 40 years I find these posts, frankly, disgusting. Why do you work for such A******S? Is this the only option? Are you not enough of a community to rebel and have some control? Admittedly I'm British and we have a sensible work/life balance set from birth for all (I think you guys call this communism, it's not, it's collectivism where we all chip in (rich and poor) for a better life for everyone) America to an outsider looks like it's just slightly modified the slave trade.
I have run companies for years and none of this would ever happen under my watch. Employers have a responsibility to stockholders, customers and employees and when they fail in any section, the company becomes weaker and when you fail in 2 or 3 areas, you are going out of business. It starts at the top and there are too many bad managers, who don't even understand the basics.
I don't LOVE my job and it doesn't pay that great, but they do treat me better than most of these places. 🤷🏻♂️
