It is said that a picture speaks a thousand words but we'd beg to differ. Some pictures speak only a few, short words while others tell a long and fascinating story. Think about this for a moment: one photo shows a plain white wall. The other features two cows who have just been washed and blow dried. Which of the two would you look at for longer?
Fortunately, the internet is a goldmine when it comes to fascinating images. Moments frozen in time that make you stop mid-scroll and get lost in the stories they're telling. Often there's no context needed, just a whole lot of curiosity. There's an entire online community dedicated to all things interesting. Simply called Interesting, it's had more than 5 million visitors this year alone. And it's not hard to see why.

That is OK - if you have the water. Took part in a table top exercise once. Question came up about turning on sprinklers and one of the town employees figured that if everyone did and left them running that the reservoir would be empty in a fairly short time (can't recall but it was a matter of hours). Look up Firesmart and sprinklers.

Well 1 million invested is around 100k a year, at best. For the income to keep pace with inflation, taking only half that is sensible. So 50k a year. So 1k per week. BUT it DOESN'T increase with inflation, and you get nothing at the end. So taking the million and investing is much better. If you don't try to keep pace with inflation you could have up to 2k per week. Obviously returns will vary, so 1k a week is a 'safer' option.

We did this math question in highschool. Always take the lump sum. (Also, "life" and "lifetime" usually have a legal definition of 25 years, and I wouldn't be surprised if they held to that).

I’ve always thought weekly/monthly payments were the right way to go. You always hear stories about people winning massive amounts of money that would keep them and their families in comfort for a lifetime but they blow it all, buying houses, cars, all kinds of major purchases, not only for themselves but for all sorts of relatives (including some you never knew you had!), friends, coworkers, neighbors…watch the show My Lottery Dream Home and you’ll get the idea. But knowing you’ll get $1000 on Thursday (or whenever payday is for these things), you know you won’t be scrabbling for change to handle that week’s expenses, or any emergency costs that come up. Take $2000 and put it straight into the bank or investment fund and keep $2000 for walking around money and you’ll be fine. It might seem like you’d get less money, but in the end you had money to live on and no worries about it or take that $1mil spend it on all sorts of stupid things and give it, oh, 5-10 years and you are flat

(Sorry, ran too long.) and you are flat broke and struggling to make basic expenses like food, car payments, shelter, etc. who really got the best deal? We’ve all actually done it, you get that $20 from Granma, the $250 you won on that scratch-off game, the commission from your big sale or your xmas bonus from work, any sort of “extra” money you’re sure to spend it all.

In 10 years $1000 a week will seem like nothing. Especially bc she has to pay taxes on it. So it's more like $500/week. I remember when I got out of med school I bought a disability policy that was $5000 a month. I thought for sure that would be enough coverage. Right now we use double that a month, easily. It would be enough to cover basic food, gas, and rent. But that's it. Plus if she dies early no one else gets that money. She should've got the lump sum and invested it.
