Anyone Here Agree? If So, What Age Should It Be?
Late boomer here, and those a******s should have been outta there 15 years ago. Age 65. Can't run for president until 35, GTFO or no more than half a term where you reach 65.
Load More Replies...Millennial here, i wholeheartedly agree. It's insane that we have retirement age for literally every other job except being a politician.
Last year Boomer here and oh my g*d yes. These old out of touch relics have no business running anything other than their own retirement. And it's not just one party, we've seen both Rep and Dem politicians who have clearly passed their "use by" date. Full retirement age is 67 and IMHO that's the last age that one should be able to run for office.
Um, I'm Gen X and I think that. More importantly, no Rep should serve more than 4-5 terms, and no senator more than 2 terms. Back before COVID there was an announcement about a Dem taking his 25,000th vote, then, a couple months later, a Repub. In both cases I'm yelling at the radio "this is a bad thing! No one should be in Congress that long."
Wanna See Y’all’s Take On This One
They say to put your phone away at the table so you can focus on your company, but want it out so you can scan for their menu.
I also hate that!!! With a passion! Especially because I was at a restaurant a couple of weeks back where they only had QR codes and their whole entire website was down! We had to wait 20 minutes just so we can check the menu and order........
We have a local restaurant that changes most of its menu every week so they added QR code stickers to every table so patrons can view the menu on their phones. They also print paper copies just in case. I was talking to the manager and he said no one ever scans the QR code, they always ask for paper 😆 he can see the stats online of how many scans the QR codes get and he said it had been maybe 1 scan per week for months
Load More Replies...I have not yet come across a restaurant that doesn’t offer proper menus. And I would walk out if I did
This isn’t fundamentally bad. It’s the tip requested before service that is the big problem.
If you don't have a menu I can hold in my hands to look at, I'll go elsewhere. The older I get, the less I actually like all this tech--and I was in IT for 10 yrs
Absolutely. I haven't found a restaurant ( I'm in Oz ) which uses this system, but if I did, I'd walk out.
I Agree
You just take the top of the bun off (because there’s too much bread anyway) and eat the rest with a fork and knife like a weirdo (like me). Problem solved!

While most researchers agree that Gen Z refers to Americans born between 1997 and 2012, some people have different opinions. For instance, the moderators in charge of the r/GenZ subreddit suggest that Gen Zers are those people born in the United States as early as 1996.
There’s also some overlap between people born on the cusp between Generation Y (aka Millennials, born between 1981 and 1996) and Generation Z. They’re referred to as Zillennials, and mostly include folks born between 1993 and 1998.
Lmao
Manual labor is good for your mental and physical health. It took me decades to come to this conclusion. Now I treat it as a way to clear my mind.
I see it this way: if you work a physical job, spend your free time being lazy or whatever. If you work a „mental“ job (like eg accountant) then do something physical in your free time, like gardening or hiking or whatever. It‘s the balance

It’s always conservatives picking a boogeyman/scapegoat to spread fear and hate over, despite all evidence that those people are fine and normal human beings. It’s all I think about when I hear the trans panic coming from the right. It’s cruel and hateful for literally no reason. Communism, Capitalism - That's how it looks on either side of the extreme. People seem to not being able to go for middle grounds anymore, like social markets - Capitalism paired with social security
The so-called "communist" dictatorships did not offer a genuine economic alternative to capitalism. That is why, over the past 20 to 25 years, experts have instead referred to them as "bureaucratic state capitalism", to provide a more accurate definition. Therefore, these two examples represent only extreme forms of capitalism. Social democracy has proven to be its most livable form and can be seen as a feasible middle ground indeed.
Load More Replies...These people don‘t even know what communism means and what the countries they say are communist really are.
Problem is most of us living under Capitalism are not Capitalists. We don't even work for Capitalists. Capitalists don't work at all they just hoard wealth and power.
People call Canadians communists. Yes, our taxes pay for healthcare, but when people say "communist problem" they usually mean the Soviets. Like how when people mention capitalism being bad, they 100% mean the states.
The hilarious part about that is the soviet union didn't really refer to itself as communist, they were "striving to achieve communism" or something similar.

The BBC reports that some members of Gen Z are moving back in with their parents, after having previously moved out, in order to save money. They’re called ‘boomerang kids.’
Many of them can’t afford to rent an apartment or a room in a shared house, whether due to the rising cost of living, high debts, or no ability to save money.

Can we stop brushing off people with anxieties difficulties though? It's hard enough to deal with asking for ketchup etc without being mocked for it.
Based on the people i work with, i cant tell the difference between their stated anxiety and just not wanting to do something.

Funny, it was not Gen Z but actually the early, young Millennials who thought that way, because that's what they were taught. They were called "digital natives" and it was widely assumed they had an almost magical, inborn ability with tech that no other generation would ever be able to grasp. I saw so many who came into the workplace expecting to be sling-shot up the ranks. Some were, for a time. It was sad when it was realized they weren't wizards after all. But Gen Z? I'd say they think the opposite--that success comes rarely or not at all. Gen Z gets criticized enough. Give them a break.
TBF to that annoying woman, there are too many young people believing that their worth lies in owning all the fast cars etc when they're still under 25.
True but it’s not a specific generational thing 😂 my gen X mum and I, a millennial, were joking about our old high school friends who would go broke trying to wear designer brands and drive the coolest cars while they could barely afford rent. Some people are honestly just like that, their egos are so important to them
Load More Replies...Meanwhile, many Gen Zers seem to have a love-hate relationship with technology. According to The Guardian, based on data from a pool by the New Britain Project think tank, two-thirds of 16-to-24-year-olds believe that social media “does more harm than good” and three-quarters want tough regulation to protect younger people.
Around half of respondents think they spent too much time on social media when they were younger. Moreover, four out of five Gen Zers admit they’d like to keep their kids away from social media as long as possible if they decide to become parents someday.

This year, in 2025, Gen Z will represent nearly 30% of the global workforce. This generation is already driving change in consumer behavior, workplace shifts, and investment trends.

The oldest members of Gen Z are already starting their careers, finishing their higher education, and starting families while the youngest are still in school. Broadly speaking, Gen Z tends to be pragmatic about finances and has a cautious approach to money management.
Members of this generation have grown up in a world where things like the internet, social media, and smartphones have always been present.
Yeah Sure Blame It On TikTok And Insta
I recently read The Anxious Generation and turns out the pressure and stress in school (non-academic) is also because of social media.....specifically exposure to it before your prefrontal cortex is ready for all which comes with that. :(
Was about to say the same thing. These are two sides of the same coin. They both feed into each other. Social media affects schools, and schools affect social media. Schools were effectively the first social settings for many children.
Load More Replies...School hasn't really changed much in years. But social media sure has. My niece became depressed and anorexic in middle school due to horrific cyber bullying. She still got good grades and had no problem with the curriculum. It was social media that temporarily ruined her life.
This person is just wrong. Social media is an absolutely HUGE driver of depression among adolescents.
Yeah, no. The big difference is that before social media, the kids who were having a hard time at school could still relax when they got home. Now, the b*llying never stops: they'll be getting harassed through texts and social media posts. Not to mention how easy it is to snap an embarrassing picture and send it to the whole school in a click. That's the reason why school became a lot more stressful for anyone who doesn't fit in, it has nothing to do with grades. (The pressure to do good academically is way lower than it was a few decades ago.)
The problem is that it’s essentially the same school system we had 40 years ago — and even back then, it was already outdated. Society, the pace of life, and the way we communicate have changed drastically, yet most of the methods used in public schools remain the same. As a result, they’re now largely dysfunctional, leading only to frustration, anxiety, and a growing disconnect between generations.
Load More Replies...Well, actuall peer reviewed science ties it to social media. The pressure of school is a constant, and in fact US standards have slid so hard, kids are inarticulate, unable to write, and can't figure out excel with access to google. And listening to people on youtube misuse, mispronounce words is like THE FAWK? how did you even speak to one another?
I dunno. Teens have always felt an immense amount of pressure and stress at school--they even used to use corporal punishment. While I think there are many factors (kids having limited time playing outdoors, little autonomy in play (sports must be organized, play must be supervised) and less face-to-face communication (due to texting, etc), social media is certainly a correlation.
Everyone in Korean Japanese and Chinese education : pffffhahahahahaha
Oh, please - maybe standardized testing in America, but way less in the rest of the world. I'm an international teacher, and most school kids have no more academic pressure today than they did a generation or two ago. Transition to adult world is much harder than the transition to HS or to college/uni.
Agree
And you could listen to music while charging. But the main point for me, is that when I travel back country, I don't want to carry around another piece of equipment, that needs charging (wireless earphones).
Yes! Plus now I/we have tons of high quality wired headphones we can't use now. I had some sweet Techtronic headphones with noise canceling that worked soooo well. Couldn't hear a thing with it turned on. Cost me like $50, now it's sitting in box since I can't use it. More ewaste, yeah....
Load More Replies...Oh yes. The phone jack was (1) cheap, (2) effective, (3) simple, (4) reliable, and (5) way too steampunk for Apple.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I honestly don't miss headphone jack. I find wireless way more convenient. And the sound quality is really good these days. I also don't miss trying to untangle the wire.
Noone is saying wireless are bad , it's just that we would like to have an option

At the end of WW2 the British people voted out Churchill, and voted in the most socialist government the country has ever seen. Free to use Universal healthcare and a generous welfare system with a huge social housing building program. Those guys were real heroes. Their children now pretend they "fought for" capitalism. They didn't.
I was the first person in my family who was born into the NHS . I am currently hoping very hard that it doesn't end with me.
Load More Replies...Oh yes! The same old divisive strategy, and too many of us still fall for it. As long as we homogenize and blame an entire generation instead of addressing systemic problems, the financial elites stay happy and in power.
Some of this nonsense really genuinely doesn't hold together under any kind of scrutiny. The boomer generation were constantly being criticised by their elders for their permissive parenting and 'anything goes' version of education, particularly encouraging children to express themselves freely.
And now their children (GenX) are raising children, who don't seem very good at applying themselves either.
Load More Replies...Why? Explain. So far every other comment you’ve left here has been disagreed with by pretty much everyone because of your ignorance and lack of education, so what is it now?
Load More Replies...Investopedia explains that some of the key characteristics and core traits of Generation Z include things like:
- Digital fluency when it comes to work, shopping, and socializing;
- Diversity, inclusivity, and social consciousness;
- Pragmatism, financial consciousness, and financial conservatism;
- Entrepreneurial tendencies and self-reliance;
- Collaboration, teamwork, and a preference for nonhierarchical leadership;
- Authenticity, individuality, and self-expression;
- Adaptability to change;

So Real Bruh
My classmates complained I read too fast in third grade; I’ve never felt so validated.
I always hated that in school. Like how y'all making it to the next grade when you sound completely illiterate.
I went to a special needs school. For real some of the kids took so long that by the time they had finished a sentence they didn't remember the start of it. Ouch! I too was rarely picked to read because I read extremely quickly.
because either the teachers and the state failed them or sports were more important and once they age out they'll be left out. it's sad
I always felt so embarrassed for the kids in my class who didn’t read well, when the teacher called on them to read.
This is an ignorant comment. People have various reasons for finding reading aloud to a group challenging, outside of whether or not they have been taught to read.
Except you can usually tell when it's nerves, as opposed to being dumb. I definitely remember kids struggling to pronounce easy, relatively well known words. Of course it was the d-bags who just talked all class long, not even trying to fake learning.
Load More Replies...Back in my day you wouldn't even be let in the gate dressed like that.
Why?
because evidence shows the more time you spend on devices and not working on skills like proper reading, music, art, or social skills the less the brain develops and the more anxious and depressed people get.
I don't get why people can't see the difference between all these activities and gaming. Nothing wrong with a bit of gaming to unwind etc, but it is not in the same category as developing and nurturing social skills and support networks, using and developing neural pathways while imagining scenarios, people, voices, etc from a book, using and building physical health and fitness, etc.
Load More Replies...All those actives are life, video games are AI. Not completely bad, but not for all day and night.
Where is it acceptable to read all day? I want to go there!
Well, the stereotype of the reader, gardener, swimmer, worker, shopper, and social butterfly ISN'T someone who lives with the lights out in the basement, doesn't bathe, eats junk food, and pees in Mtn Dew bottles. Mental stimulation, physical activity, and face-to-face social contact really is better for you. Yeah, I know. Not all gamers. Many people who game do so while living a well-rounded life. But the stereotype didn't evolve out of thin air. And it's just so eeeeasy to slide into that computer chair and get lost in the games and the apps for hour after hour.
I Can't Eat Them Anymore
As an old person, I agree. They taste so much sweeter but whether that's my aging taste buds, because they are sweeter or a combination of both
they might actually be sweeter. In Oct 2023 I accidentally bought 15% sugar-milk at Publix. Who adds sugar to milk??
Load More Replies...No judgment here! I still like the zebra cakes and the occasional donut stick!
Load More Replies...They ARE disgusting these days. Sugar? Now glucose syrup. Other sugar? Now artificial sweeteners. Butter? Now palm oil. I remember the shock I had when somebody who visited the UK brought back a pack of my (former) favourite Kipling Apple Pies. The lovely pastry was now gunk that stuck to the top of my mouth, and the apple filling tasted like the sort of pretend apple that lollipops are (despite having actual apple pieces) because all of the proper ingredients were replaced for bogus health reasons (actually "because cheaper", look if I was worried about my health I'd be eating an apple not an apple PIE). Whatever, once upon a time things had decent ingredients. Now it's fake cheap stuff and this means everything tastes horrid these days.
and I strongly believe one can wean off sugar. I use the end of a spoon tip (end) now per coffee

Some of the biggest challenges that members of Gen Z (and younger Millennials) face are economic. In 2025, a whopping 61% of people aged 18 to 35 said they have financial anxiety due to rising living expenses, job uncertainty, and housing costs.
Meanwhile, two-thirds of Gen Z employees are worried that they won’t be able to pay off their school loans.
Not Sure If Someone Has Posted This Tweet Here Already But It Belongs Here
Why would you assume they are in the US? But to speak to the proposition, as an amateur historian, people have lived in much worse times. And yet here we are. This notion that the world is about to collapse is as old as the Romans, (in fact, much older) yet we still have a civilization in Italy. Don't give up, people. There is so much to live for. Not buffering necessarily, it used to be that video players let you buffer as much as you want to (you could pause it, then let it load the whole video, hit play watch the entire video without it having to buffer). But now if you pause a video, it only preloads (read: buffering) the next few min of video before it stops preloading. Meaning if you have a bad connection, you are forced into watching a bit of it, waiting for it to buffer, watch a bit, buffer, watch, buffer, etc.; as opposed to pausing it once at the beginning, letting it all preload, and then watching without having to wait on any more buffering. Super annoying, and hopefully it makes a comeback.

Those that benefit from misinformation, propaganda, conspiracy theories, and lies love people like this. They put their garbage out there, knowing some credulous idiots will bite for purposes of empty virtue signaling, they’ll share it and, voila! They’ve now poisoned the well and put themselves in control of the pseudo-conversation so they can profit from it in one way or another.
At least some of those conspiracy theories will turn out to be true. But it can take generations for that information to come out. It's not easy to see which ones are unhinged (like flat earth) and which ones are true. But Bored Panda, for one, is full of little snippets of til weirdness about things we now know the government did in previous generations that nobody would have credited at the time. Giving people venereal disease (Tuskegee study) or brainwashing them (look up MK Ultra), Unit 731, etc. It's amazing what can go on. But at the time I'm sure these were conspiracy theories and people were shunned if they brought them up.

Yes We Can’t Hear S**t Without Subtitles
Necessary these days, as the volume of speech is 3,and the volume of the music and special effects is on 11. And if there are commercials, they ramp it up to 15
Here is a finding: TV speakers often face to the back! Get a room facing aux speaker. Helps. Also you can hear it now, and not your wife in the passage

Does Anyone Else Feel Like They’re Older Because Of This?
Late stage Gen X had the best parties...we listened to Kurt while he was actually alive, we skateboarded before Tony was famous, we knew the taste of Hashish before skunk ruined the mental health of a generation, and off licences didn't shiv a git how old we were as long as we had legal currency to spend.
Ach, its just a "better in my day" thing. People just miss being young. For all of history people have been saying "my generation was the best".

I always thought things like the Wii were dumb because if I want to play basketball "realistically", I can as well go to the park instead of jumping around in my living-room with a remote in hand like a crazed Energizer bunny.
They are an escape from the real world even if they look realistic. In the real world I’m not running over people in my car and seeing how many people I can collectively burn with a Molotov 😈
Load More Replies...GenX on the other hand... When I was young I was great at Chuckie Egg. Dude was like 14 pixels tall, bright yellow, and had an epic huge hat bigger than a Mountie. My nemesis? Blue ostrich like birds that couldn't fly. If I collected too many eggs, a giant yellow chicken might try to attack me. She cheated and flew in ways that should have been impossible.
Then there's PacMan. You, a little yellow gump that pops pills like it's the late sixties, while trying to avoid ghosts. Owing to some clever programming, the four ghosts actually had different behaviours (and, thus, personalities). You can get quite a lot out of a screen that has maybe 240x180 pixels and 4-8 colours if the game is engaging enough.

Wait Do You Guys Really Not Use A Wallet
I have a wallet. Got my phone stolen recently. Just go mentally through the implications.
Remote block & wipe, buy phone, install profile, load backup, and you're sorted in under an hour. Having your wallet stolen, however, THAT is bad. You cannot call to block cards without losing three hours to the robot receptionist, and walking in the door for customer support instead of to buy, people look at you like you're on fire. IF THEY EVEN HAVE A PHYSICAL LOCATION ANYMORE.

I have a wallet, but I only got it because it was my birthday and I liked the Harry Potter print... And also, I'm Gen Z, so... probably irrelevant.
Maybe this is why people still keep thinking I might be in my 20s. I have a small card wallet, but I don't carry it with me because I have all my cards in my phone. I do have a phone case with three card slots - one payment card, bus pass (my city doesn't have a digital version) and ID.
You can use your phone to pay for stuff and put your driver's license on it. So I guess this makes sense?
Every time I'm required to show my license, I have to take it out of the clear plastic covered holder in my wallet. There's so many ways to manipulate a photo, how can a pic on the phone be legit? Even before I get my license out, you can look and see that's it's 3-D plastic and real and has the hologram. You actually use your phone? How u do d'at?

At school? That’s a weird question. Why would anyone even know the answer to that as a child? I still don’t know even now.
I knew in HS I didn’t want kids. Went off on a rant one day in my social studies class about how gross kids were. My teacher laughed at me and made me a bet that I’d have a kid by the time I was 25. I said, “Let me see the money.” He and I put a dollar each in an envelope and he put in up on his bulletin board in his office. I’m 48 and still no kids. We’re friends on FB and I’ve told him a few times that I still expect payment on that bet, with interest 😂
When I was a kid, I wanted a huge family. I still want a large family, but not so huge as to be financially collapsing. My parents had five kids. My dad is from a large immediate family, and my mom has a large extended family.
That's really true and very sad. My daughter says if she ever wants a child, she will adopt.
In high school I wrote an essay on all the benefits of not having kids, with a conclusion that I would never have any. I have seven kids. And they are the best things that ever happened to me (besides my spouse) and I cannot imagine life without them. And BTW, kids do not cost nearly as much as they would have you believe.
The Scared Generation
Isn't it better to be afraid to smoke or drink? That way, people are more cautious about them. They aren't exactly good for your health anyway. (I mostly think of smoking when I say this. I don't drink personally, but I am fine with others drinking in moderation.)
Making a choice based on caution is one thing. Being afraid is another.

I Don't Understand Why Millennials Keep Their Boxes, I Never Keep Mine
I need it so that I can hold my childhood and civilization together for my sanity. No. I don't have an explanation.
Sounds like a rich kid's post. Most people I know re-sell their phone when they buy a new one or they gift it to someone who needs one but can't afford it. The latter happened to me, it was super nice to get the phone in the original box with the serial numbers and all of the accessories including that tiny annoying thing needed to open the SIM card slot.
As someone who has moved several times, I never throw away good quality, strong boxes, even the small ones. You never know when it'll come in handy.
As a boomer, I keep most boxes, much to the detriment of space in the garage.
Complete nonsense. RMA (return materials authorisation) procedure requires the box the product came in.

Yeah, but what percentage of that 45% have/have had girlfriends (or boyfriends) anyway? I've never done that and I've been married almost 30 years. Also, 18 is really not that old wrt to dating.
We used to go clubbing and meet people. Do people still do that? Go out to a bar on the weekends to see a band? Did covid put the final nail in going out to meet people?
The ratio of encounters with guys who approach me in bars is pretty much 5% nice, 45% awkward and 50% s3xual harrassment. Online, I can focus on the 5%.

are you teaching information they will actually use in their life or are you teaching information the school system is insisting you teach? is it information they can get if they have their phones in front of them? is it researchable if they were at work? have they been in advanced in a school system that just doesn't care or is underfunded? are you ready to leave teaching and find something fun to do that is more rewarding because teaching kids who just don't learn is not rewarding anymore. I give you credit for trying.

Thought This Was Funny Due To Recent Arguments I've Had On This Sub
If nothing else then just go and spoil your ballet paper. I don't know about elsewhere but in the UK political parties take spoilt papers seriously. If the numbers go up in an area they will investigate why the candidate they are putting forward isn't appealing. They want to solve that problem before anyone else. It can also inspire more independent candidates to put themselves forward with different agendas. At the very least it makes it loud and clear that things aren't good enough. Political parties regard non-voters as a lost cause and don't waste money trying to find out how they can get them to vote for their candidate.

GG = "good game". Used to be said by gamers at the end of a competitive game match where you play against other people (usually a first-person shooting game like Counter-Strike or Call of Duty) as a way of letting go any frustrations you may have felt during the match itself and just saying "good game" to your opponents, even if they won. IIRC nowadays it's usually used sarcastically/in a mean/cruel way, though XD But it used to be the gamer version of the handshake between two tennis players after a match - just a show of good sportsmanship.

An example in contrast to "Avatar" would be "Velma" (2023 - 24).
