When you think about it, the internet is a democracy. Whether you're the President, an award-winning scientist, or just a spiteful troll, you can create a Twitter account and go from one thread to another, explaining to other users why they're stupid. However, if you're actually doing it, that's precisely what you need to keep in mind. It's just a matter of time before you run into someone who can call out your BS. And when that happens, you're going to end up on the subreddit r/DontYouKnowWhoIam. Like the name suggests, this online community is dedicated to those spicy moments when people were oblivious to who they were talking to, and has collected quite a lot of them since its inception in 2015. Here are some of the best ones.

Even though there's a line between self- and over-confidence, trusting in your judgment can help you become successful in life.

Both verbal and nonverbal communication can be extremely effective at garnering positive attention and influence in groups. According to one hypothesis (the presumption of calibration hypothesis), people generally assume others have the self-knowledge to know how confident they should be, and we also assume they will truthfully communicate this confidence to us (the so-called truth bias), unless extenuating circumstances suggest otherwise.

So whenever we see confidence, we tend to find it compelling, and we expect it to be justified.

Anyone else so sick of the vaccine argument? Should mention I'm not anti-vax. Have had covid twice myself. Edit: Was asked how I had it twice. First time I likely caught it in a post office. Only place I'd been for weeks as most of the country was shut. Second time my partner tested positive and then I did.

Interestingly, some research has reported that being overconfident while participating in a group activity did not damage the person’s reputation — individuals who trusted their task performance (but were later revealed to be worse at the task than they had claimed) did not suffer a severe drop in their social status in the group relative to someone who had been well-calibrated.

The researchers concluded that "the status benefits of overconfidence outweighed any possible status costs."

So extreme cases aside, being featured on r/DontYouKnowWhoIam might not be the worst thing that can happen to you.

Exactly! A sauna doesn't have to be uncomfortable to be 'good for you' at all! It should be something relaxing, that's all. It might be good for your hearth health, but there's not that much evidence that saunas have health benefits. Still, getting uncomfortably hot is not good.

It's this stupid "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger". No, what doesn't kill you weakens you, so the next thing maybe gets you... Or do you think it's coincidence when malnourished children die of diarrhea? Or the traumatized have problems years later?

To be fairrrrrrrr.... I think Joe Rogan is referencing when they use saunas to sweat out extra water weight, so they can cut weight to make a certain weight class in MMA fighting. (Not that it's a good or healthy method, but it's a method)

Physical discomfort is the body's warning that the water is too hot therefore unsafe for you. Get out of saunas that are too hot for you. A sauna should be calming, soothing, with no more than the very minor discomfort of sweating a little. One should be drinking water to prevent dehydration.

You can also consult about five million Finns about sauna. They know all you need. And some are experts, they know _everything_. Though, what Joe Rogan is talking about, is not a sauna. It's a dehydration room.

I kind of understand why Rogan says that. He's thinking of weight classes, they use sauna to dehydrate for making weight. That is certainly uncomfortable. A proper sauna is a heaven. (Says a Finn who's been to various saunas about 2500 times...)

I seriously have to question Adam's expertise. First of all we need to take into account the cultural differences. Finnish sauna is often hotter than Estonian sauna for example. Also as he is Estonian, him mentioning ventilation sounds off since estonian smoke sauna traditionally doesn't have a chimney. Sure you can be a salesman, call yourself an expert and speak at TEDx but that doesn't automatically mean you're right.

I have to disagree - slightly - the proper feeling of euphoria can be achieved with enduring a little bit of discomfort in the heat, then cooling off in very cold water. You should not torture yourself though, we have senses for exactly that purpose, self preservation. (Finnish person here, and saunas abroad are always too cool - except Estonia and Russia)

Great response. Same for "no pain, no gain". depends on the onset of pain, type of pain, location, depth, intensity ... MOST pain is NOT good, & not indication of gain. A sauna session for most people, is not a life threatening contest of pain fortitude. How would that be therapeutically positive? Safe? Enjoyable? relaxing?

    Sam Kenway

...but this guy isn't actually addressing the point. Heat is uncomfortable for some people. If a sauna was the right temperature to just be "comfortable" for me, it wouldn't be called a "sauna," it would be just a "room." (Or maybe a "warm room.") If I'm going to get any health benefits from a sauna (which I doubt anyway, but for the sake of argument), then I'm going to be uncomfortable regardless of how much ventilation there is, because I don't like heat, and the point of a sauna is heat, isn't it?

And there are saunas fired with wood (really nice! Never gets to hot) and fog saunas too. As long as no one fipples with the temperature settings it’s all right! But if you don’t like heat, don’t do the saunas! In Scandinavia we place our saunas by water outside if possible. Running out of the sauna in to the water at summer is ok, but I’m skipping it at winter and take a cool shower instead ☺️

You can sit quite comfortably in a sauna even when the temperature is above 80°C. (176°F) But limit your stay in a sauna to the recommended 15 to 20 minutes.

Too be honest, why would people always know how an artist looks? I mean, sure, if it's a singer or actor, you'd know. But I'm a fan of some painters and writers and I don't know what they look like. Doesn't matter either. I love their work, I don't need to Google their private life and see what they look like, etc.

Airbnb is bad in many ways. They encourage landlords to throw out tenants because they can make more from tourists, they don't pay tourist taxes, they don't care about the disturbance that tourists cause in residential areas and they drive up the rents in tourist areas. Yes Airbnb Bad
