50 Times People Wanted To Appear Edgy And Stand Out From “The Norm” But Ended Up Embarrassing Themselves (New Pics)
As Andrea F. Polard, Psy.D., wonderfully put it, arrogance is weaponized pride. Unlike healthy pride — which is an appropriate celebration of personal or communal accomplishment — it pushes people away.
The subreddit r/NotLikeTheOtherGirls is an excellent example of this. The online community is dedicated to shaming people who are trying to be unique by defining themselves outside of "the norm." Instead of proving how unique they are, these folks simply make a fool of themselves, earning ridicule instead of respect.
We've covered r/NotLikeTheOtherGirls before here and here, but with 785K members, the subreddit constantly offers new content, so it's about time we release an update. Continue scrolling and check out its most popular recent posts.

Moms Are More Important
Lady, other people work very hard too. Not just you. Get to the back of the line.
Of all of the things that diminish the quality of interpersonal relationships, few, if any, are as damaging as arrogance.
To be arrogant is to appropriate for yourself, presumptuously; to claim without right and to be overly convinced of your own importance.
One of the unfortunate consequences of arrogance is that people who have this trait often have no awareness of it and when confronted by feedback that suggests that they may be grabbing more ground than they are entitled to, often become highly defensive and even combative, which ironically demonstrates that they probably are.

The Only Correct ‘Not Like Other Girls’
So in an attempt to learn how to deal with these people, let's take a look at what the before mentioned doctor of psychology, Andrea Polard, suggests doing to stay calm and collected while still standing strong and confidently against arrogance in your life.
"Be compassionate, but don't try to fix the person," Polard wrote. "The need for superiority is deeply rooted and ranges from low self-esteem to an unquenchable thirst for praise to a lack of empathy for those who are or appear to be less accomplished. Only the arrogant person can confront such a problem with sustained effort. On the other hand, and as always, it brings peace to your heart and potentially to the situation if you can have compassion for the unhappiness of others."

Next, accept the fact that the other indeed feels superior. Try to realize that there is nothing you can do in the future or have done in the past to make them arrogant.
"He or she suffers from a problem that goes far beyond you. Most importantly, understand that accepting feelings of superiority in another person does not mean that you must feel inferior in turn. Look at it as a game that you can refuse to play."

You order your coffee at Starbucks? Wuss. Real men grinds coffee beans with his teeth, then pours boiling water in mouth and headbangs violently until coffee is brewed.
REAL real men smash the beans with a hammer and snort them like cocaine.....geez, man the F up!!
Load More Replies...What's wrong with that coffee? Shaming someone for getting something they like? ||| One of my friends took years to admit that he despise beer, whiskey, rum [...] just because people constantly shaming him ||| now he sits at the bar, looking more metal than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide, sipping his pink virgin fru-fru-drink, playing with that cute little paper-umbrella.
" looking more metal than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide" lol
Load More Replies...Masculinity is now measured in coffee preference? I really must get out more…
And you stand outside gay bars solely to punch guys who start conversations with you
This is the most pathetic attempt as projecting a "manly" persona i have ever saw. This guys needs therapy for his insecurities.
Honestly - I really liked the normal coffee they sold. At least back in 2015, when I was over there on vacation. It didn't cost much (1,50 if I remember correctly for the small one) and it was okay and you could put in as much milk as you wanted. I mean, the froofroo-drinks are waaaaaaaaaaay overpriced, but the coffee wasn't that bad.
Load More Replies...Haha how silly they are for ordering the drink they would like to drink and then proceeding with their lives while wondering why that guy who is always in the Starbucks keeps making eye contact while drinking something in a cup.
and then everyone claps, right? They forgot that part where everyone claps
Must admit, I did feel a bit of a plonker on holiday ordering a Slippery Nipple cocktail for my wife... I had to compensate by punching the bartender a couple times to balance it out... (The last bit I'm joking about, but the ordering, sadly not so!)
Oi, oi!! Don't shame a person's coffee preference! Not cool. If the dude is bold enough to just order what they want that's good! I like all the coffee, all the ways coffee can be coffee'd. Except the lemur stuff, not my thing. But get your a**e out of others business.
If you like straight black coffee just buy a damn coffee machine and make it yourself.
Why be embarrassed? Enjoy your frufru drink like a man! (My husband loves pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks. I jokingly call him basic as I sip an equally sweet drink.) Enjoy what you want!
The amount of times I’ve been shamed for liking Starbucks or crimson cup or coffee with creamer cause I’m a 16yo girl and it’s stereotypical, or just cause it apparently means I’m weak… I love the taste of coffee and I need the caffeine, but black coffee is too bitter and destroys my stomach
Okay tough guy, I guess you also probably wear t-shirts that read, "I do Alpha Male Sh*t" , and are a "Man Card" carrying member of the Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver "War Machine" fan club too? But if I am reading this correctly... So you are basically saying that you purposely hang around Starbucks hoping to make eye contact with other men? I mean if that is your thing, okay, but I think you might have better luck on a dating app. But then again maybe not, I mean most men, and women too, are not really into passive-aggressive people. Now when I go to Starbucks, I order a Caffé Vanilla Breve made with Ristretto Espresso. I will even do so while in uniform, never had anybody "man card judge" me yet. But hey, you do you.
Dude probably is just wondering why this chick is still there after getting her order staring at him. Nobody cares what you're doing lady
If you're getting coffee at Starbucks 5 days a week, you're making too much money.
Girl, that low-fat-iced-latte-fru-fru drinking man does not even care that you exist. Get over yourself boo boo.
Make it at home and save yourself some money. Seems pretty dumb. And I but he wondering why you staring at him? Lol
Don't act like you're better than everyone else just because you take your coffee different. Shut up and drink your caffeinated tar, Linda.
I have always said.....if you're buying coffee every day at Starbucks, you're making too much money.
don't tell me, everyone at Starbucks stood up and clapped for you?
Don't do coffee but this is SO my wife at least as far as the taste in coffee
I go to Starbucks solely to order a cup of coffee, then take a good long sip of I don't give a f**k what any stranger thinks of me.
How has the manliness of his pubc hair failed to consume the world already?
Real men lead a burro around the field like Juan Valdez. Talk about hot!
Sad part is she probably likes the fru fru drinks and is making herself drink black coffee so she can be cool. Super sad. Glad I get to enjoy my Iced Vanilla Latte, whole milk, 1/2 the syrup. Makes my day. My taste buds are doing a happy dance just thinking about it.
Those are the same dudes that think beer tastes good because it's MaNlY. Don't get why we pointlessly gender s**t.
I stand corrected. My husband says real men brew their coffee with moonshine.🤣🤣🤣
My husband would never go to Starbucks to get coffee. He hates it. He says it always tastes “burned”. The real men who like black coffee straight with no sugar, make it at home and laugh at the guys who think they are tough by getting their black coffee from Starbucks. I don’t like coffee (yes, I know I’m a freak), but I LOVE tea! But I only drink it at home because I like it HOT and brewed really well. I learned how to drink it the *right* 😁😁😁 way when visiting relatives in England many years ago.
Main character syndrome. He doesn’t know what’s in your cup. He isn’t watching you. He doesn’t care what you’re drinking. You are imagining this cinematic scene all on your own. Also, I’ve known some pretty tough guys who unashamedly enjoy their pink umbrella drinks and milkshakes-disguised-as-coffees. They do not care what you think. They wouldn’t bother posting about it because they rightly assume that no one else cares either.
If you like hot tar juice, that is fine. Some of us are like Leslie Knope and need a cup of whipped cream per half cup of coffee. Also fine.
I hired a guy for a deck project (he sucked, ended up doing it myself), who actually bragged that he mocked his best friend for drinking "fru fru" coffee (hazelnut). My reply: really, you tried to sex shame your friend? Cause your coffee taste is different? It makes you more manly? Wow, you call it a win then? Weird. Suffice to say they was about the moment he realized I wasn't swooning & he prob wasn't getting laid.
How does anybody know its straight black with no cream or sugar? Do you have that written on your shirt? Do you stand next to the counter telling everyone that makes eye contact? Or is this some fetish dream of yours to feel better about yourself?
If this is what makes a man, I have to alert my mom. Lmao. I swear, the way something tastes isn't masculine or feminine 😂
My only complaint about my husband's coffee is that I'm genuinely concerned that the amount of sugar he likes in it may cause diabetes one day. But it at least makes him happy.
I order what I like with absolutely no embarrassment, if you like drinking hot bitter self loathing then more power to you, I enjoy drinking flavorful adventure time Foster's home for imaginary friends and I'm secure in my masculinity working in the prison system with hardened criminals.
Shaming other men for being secure in their masculinity and ordering whatever makes them happy is not something to brag about.

Remeber Galls! Only Follow One Thing Ever, And Make It Your Personality
"Communicate directly," Polard added. "Sometimes it is advisable to tell the other person how she/he came across. It is good to remind an arrogant person that no one knows that much, considering life’s mysteries, and that no one can claim absolute truth. As long as it does not harm you later, do not suppress yourself."
You can use disarming sentences such as, "Forgive me for interrupting, but...", or "Maybe you did not mean to sound arrogant/hurt my feelings/come across as if you are 100 percent right, but..."
If arrogance is an aberration, you can also ask if anything negative happened to them that day.

"Involve a mediator or a greater number of people," Polard said. "Sometimes direct communication backfires, which is why you might want to include a third party to help diffuse the situation."
"Without being vindictive, stand up for yourself under the guidance of someone else. Seek the support you need. Sometimes you might have to find allies and stand together against a particularly harmful arrogant person or persons."

You can also reduce the harm by setting limits. "We cannot always choose with whom we work and must deal with, but we can set limits," the psychologist highlighted.
"Before meeting with an arrogant person, decide how much time you will spend together and what subjects you will or will not speak about. Be disciplined and resist biting any hooks that would prolong the allotted time or cover more territory. If you cannot keep your distance despite great effort, maybe it is time to plan to sever the ties. Nobody should remain silent and endure abuse, whether in a personal or professional relationship."

The important thing to remember is to stay mindful. Whatever you decide to do, attempt it deliberately, thoughtfully, and with as much love as possible.
"Arrogant people cause others to lose their temper and become their worst self. Observe your reactions with self-compassion and your long-term interest in mind. Play the game of your life instead of trying to fit into someone else's," Polard said.
So always stay true to yourself and... don't forget to shame them on r/NotLikeTheOtherGirls.

The sad thing about "not like other girls" is that they buy into the myth that women who aren't emulating males are some sort of anathema. Also, I think since women are underrepresented in history books, etc., any woman not fitting the "stereotype" seems an exception, when in fact individual tastes, skills, and talents are common in all women, because women are people. And interests aren't gendered. 😒
The title says "cringy people". Seems to just be about s******g on girls.

I couldn't finish it either, but it was a nice reminder to check myself. I don't want to be like people who aren't like other people.

A lot of pick me girls here. Thankfully l know a lot of nice, well adjusted women who try to navigate this world helping each other and l love them dearly.
Honestly I think women are being fooled into believing all women are the same because of the lack of diversity in media of female characters. My whole childhood it was just hot, sexy love interests who I saw everywhere. The damsel in distress who doesn't want to get her nails dirty. Oh but she can also take a guy down twice her size. Us women have to create our own narratives, realize that there are just as many different male characters in this world as there are female characters. Females can also be geeky, adventurous, funny, brave, strong, leaders, tortured souls, edgy, cute etc. and they don't all have to be hot. And I love that we're getting a much more diverse set of personalities now than before. The fact is women are unique. So a lot of them are going to feel like they don't fit into this tiny box media has put women in. Hence, "not like the other girls".
I'm not like other girls. I'm so edgy. I just had buffalo chicken pasta for breakfast without taking heartburn medicine (the regret will arise soon)
A lot of these are just basically "different strokes for different folks." I've never fit in either, but I don't think that makes me special. That attitude just comes off as overcompensation for low self-esteem. Accept who you are, no matter what. But don't make a big deal out of the differences.

You kno I always found these things so cringe. But if you look deeper a lot if it is just pple wanting to individualize themselves, not wanting g to appear to be " the same" . Its actually a part of growing up for girls. Little harder to speak of grown azz women
I’m not like other girls, I’m a trash goblin who dips in and out of the Void :). On a more serious note, these people are going through the phase where they see the stereotype of women in the media and want to be different. I hit that stage at 13 and tried to be “gothic” and “mysterious”
