A few psychologists, Justin Kruger and David Dunning, were so intrigued by McArthur Wheeler's funny robbery story that they held a social experiment with psychology undergraduate students. They performed problem-solving tests using logic, analysis of grammar, and assessment of whether jokes were funny. Surprisingly, the results revealed that those who scored the lowest overestimated their performance. In their research paper, Dunning and Kruger wrote that "…people who are unskilled in these domains suffer a dual burden: Not only do these people reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices, but their incompetence robs them of the metacognitive ability to realize it." The phenomenon subsequently became known as the Dunning–Kruger effect, sometimes called ‘the unskilled and unaware effect.’
It is also interesting that the Dunning-Kruger effect involves smart people underestimating themselves.

I am honestly confused these days. I was a tomboy as a child in the 80s/90s, and I didn't have ANY female friends growing up; all my friends were boys. I don't hate or dislike other females. I ended up having what were then-considered "stereotypically male" hobbies/interests like playing video games, chasing insects, and watching football. I tell people that when they ask about my childhood and I get called a "pick me girl". Am I? I don't understand the term, exactly, and I don't know what I'm doing/saying wrong :/ I didn't hate the other girls or feel superior/different from them... I was just a weirdo regardless of what my gender/sex were/are XD But in all seriousness, I don't really understand what a "pick me girl" is and whether or not I am one.

And anyway pick me girls aren't self-aware lol so you're a step ahead. Pick me girls are ones who deliberately shun other women and try really hard to get male attention by slagging off their own gender and attempting to be "one of the guys". ACTUALLY being one of the guys is absolutely fine, of course. But these girls who go around saying it all the time can be compared to the "nice guy" thing - if you have to constantly tell everyone around you that you are one, then you're not one.
