Meanwhile, Belugas and dolphins are still held in the permanently closed Marine Land. Apparently, Marine Land needs Ottawa's permission to move marine life around. I think that's just passing on the blame to someone else. Seriously, I expect more from Canada. But way to go, Mexico. Leading the way by example.

David Bowie appeared to have different colored eyes, but it was actually a condition called anisocoria, where his left pupil was permanently dilated from a teenage fight, making it look dark black against his blue iris, creating the illusion of two different colors, not two different colored irises.

This Historic Decision Prioritizes The Well-Being Of Animals And The Protection Of Nature Over Tradition

Fireworks display over water with a banned stamp, highlighting a 2026 nationwide fireworks ban in the Netherlands.

1 week ago (edited) Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Animals and nature weren't the main reason for the ban, that was safety and order: Each December, police/ambulances/firefighters are constantly getting attacked by people throwing fireworks at them, people are setting cars on fire with fireworks, and hundreds of people each year end up in the ER because of firework accidents. And those problems also cost society lots and lots of money. Some other reasons were the problems fireworks cause for animals, nature, people with lung diseases and people with PTSD. By the way, it's not a total ban, firework shows are still allowed with a permit.

Where "Shoot-to-K**l" Policies Exist India: Maharashtra state, and particularly Kaziranga National Park, have policies allowing forest guards to shoot suspected poachers on sight to protect rhinos and tigers. Africa: Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Swaziland have employed shoot-to-k**l tactics, with Botswana seeing significant success in reducing poaching to near zero,.

The Chinese (mainly) fishing armada surrounds the protected area, send fish traps with GPS trackers and wait for the traps to float into international waters to poach the fishes. You regularly find the floaters in small islands.

Their fleets will be destroyed in port, which is why Taiwan is a degree safer than not. Kissenger in the 70s leaked a plan to Chinese spies that 12 nukes from a SSBN ends China. Knife edge for sure. In countries that connect to others because of their geography, excess electricity from one can be sent to another that needs it. That is what majority of the states in the US do, in the continental US, except for Texas, which has a completely separate power grid not connected to any other(and that has caused problems in massive storms which cause power outages).

Atleast in Sweden, when the wind is blowing the price for electricity per kWh is lower, and sometimes almost zero. We still have a transfer fee etc.

Even though parts might be blocked from sale to other countries: The one big advantage of solar and wind power is it cannot be claimed by one nation or individual and blocked for use. Uranium, coal, gad and oil can be hoarded and transports be blocked or hindered. But nobody can steal the sun or the wind. This is why people like Trunp hate it, they cannot control it. Water power is in between, it is pissible to block access to hydropower, but very difficult.

Reliable sources say 30 GW wind, nearly 40 GW solar (installed capacity, not necessarily the power generated at any moment). Admittedly, Spain is a leader in Europe, but I feel TWh per year would be a more realistic measure (for any country).

Tracy Lyons: wind and solar power stop the costs getting ridiculously expensive. Meanwhile, the price of electricity as a fraction of annual earnings is much lower now than when I was young, many decades ago - and lighting is incredibly efficient. Electricity now is more affordable than in the past. The big affordability problem here in the UK is the stupidly high cost of housing.

Not really a new thing. I've visited plots that were planted in the 50s to study spacing effects. Likely some existed before that. I have read that Germany tried planting trees very close in the 30s or 40s which rather than increasing yields resulted in essentially toothpicks.

Not exactly true. There are several streets that go off and parallel the main street to the east part of the village, but the west part is one line of houses on the main street. The next little village to the west, Kosmolow, is mostly only one street wide. Nearly everyone in these villages is a farmer on long skinny acres of land.

That’s because eyeball planets are planets tidally locked to their stars so the side facing the star has either liquid water or lava while the side facing away is frozen solid. This gives the appearance of an ‘eyeball’ on the planet. And besides, we don’t have the technology to accurately photograph planets that are hundreds of lightyears away so we have no idea what it actually looks like
