If you grew up in a generation where you learned history through textbooks in school, you likely didn’t enjoy every single class, and that’s fine. Some days will be more of a drag than others.

That’s not the case with memes. They will usually involve humor, making learning much more enjoyable. It’s likely why subreddits like History Memes have 1.2 million followers, all keeping the page alive with relatable content that also involves absorbing the same information you will find in school books.

Here are some of the best ones from the page. As always, don’t forget to upvote your favorites!

Outside of memes, there are other ways to make learning history more interesting and enjoyable. Oakwood High School social science teacher Alex Brouhard suggests allowing students to be “investigators.” As he noted in an article for EdSurge, it’s a way to sustain interest.

An example he gave was having students investigate what happened in the two years between 1915 and 1917, including the sinking of the Lusitania during World War I.

well now dont forget that according to the original texts, and by that i mean the original hebrew texts and jewish mythology, Eve was Adams second wife after Lilith fled the garden. i would imagine that she had descendents, either through adam or through another "demon" she raised during her flight from the garden. Christianity is very careful to pretend lilith never existed, but that nothing more than selective editing of the text in order to "prove" women are meant to be subservient to men.

It was exactly this "we're right, everybody else is going to hell" attitude that opened my eyes to what a crock of sh1t the whole thing was. Pyla: more like "before and after reliable breech loading rifles". European armies didn't start going for camouflage in a big way until the late 19th century. Back in the early 19th century it was generally more important to tell the difference between "friend" and "enemy" than to blend into the background. Back in the days of muskets, the enemy was *there*, drawn up in a huge formation you couldn't miss. The same in the days of horse-mounted men at arms. If you're going to charge on horseback into a huge mess of the enemy, you ain't hiding - but you do want to know who's on your side and who isn't. Things changed with the ability to shoot accurately from cover over long distances.

I won't be so foolish as to say "they knew less back then, ther's more to know now", but jack-of-all-trades have existed for a long time. The polymaths of ANY time can only have a limited knowledge of a given field (even if that's more than a layman), because they have to know several fields. It is a zero-sum game. A dedicated astronomer would wipe the floor with a polymath when it comes to knowledge of astronomy.

Focusing on individual stories is another strategy that Brouhard applies with his students. As he noted, crime shows, for example, appeal to people not just because of the suspense but also for the emotional connection.

Incel means involuntary celibate. These guys were all married. Also most of them were highly educated and several of them were legitimately geniuses. So I am not sure what you are basing this on. I mean just read Hamilton's writings or check out Lafayette's strategic plans. Not saying they were the best at creating a government, but they were certainly successful and intelligent men in their own right

You can add Estonia to the list. The only war crime we got was giving surnames to the russian peasants who lived in the territories that we won in our war of independence from the soviet union (1918-1920). My poor coworker is surnamed Pushkin because the Estonian officers who came to their village were russian literature buffs. Apparently the entire village got named after famous russian authors. It's the same with fictional war horses. They show them as big old draft horses or long maned carriage horses, but they were actually just heavy hunters. I've seen heavy hunters in the field and they are, when fitted up, able to carry a man for miles over fences and a suit of armor wouldn't bother them. Solid bone, substantial conformation, and not all that extra weight of bone and muscle to overheat.

Verena: the thing is, "zero" wasn't considered an actual number way back when. The concept of "nothing" obviously existed (monkeys understand the idea of "There's no fruit left" perfectly well), but actually coming up with "zero" as a concept to use in maths - specifically, to enable positional notation in base ten, and then (once they'd done that), all the other clever things you can do with it - that was a big leap.

Might have different societal pressures to emphasize some arenas of science greater (imagine, feeding the world without the massive ag runoff, or fewer investments in military science). It needs to be noted that Unions work differently in diffetent countries. In Germany or the Netherlands it does not matter if you are a member of a union and if yes, which one. Everything unions of a certain trade negotiate, applies for everybody in that trade. Unions don't have a say in who gets well paid jobs or overtime. They do have a lot of piwer, but they don't have a power over employees.

I happen to live near a decoy warhead base. The geniuses built it on a border of a medium sized (for Estonia) oil shale mining town. So that, if the evil capitalists b**b out the fake base, they would ALSO take out half of a strategic shale oil producing town and ignite the underground oilshale deposits for good measure.

Scott Adams once analysed the US presidential winners. Apparently, most of the time, the tallest candidate won. In all other cases, the one with better hair won. And this is supposed to be better than a monarchy, where we don't actually let the monarch do anything.

Neanderthals were actually a very sophisticated genus. Early scientists didn't like the idea of them being 'human-like' & created the myth that they were chest banging creatures barely above animals. They knew how to survive in groups, which meant they understood leadership qualities & working for the best for the group, appreciated art with cave drawings, the possibility of deity worship. They were not just surviving on instinct. And the latest research is showing they didn't die out, but assimilated with homo sapiens.
