@LakotaWolf: you are absolutely right. I like to attach my comment to another BP here, because the older I get the more it infuriates me that I had to put up with the ridiculous offer what women's pockets should look like - me being a kid of the 90s/00s and "Miss Sixty" was THE jeans to wear. They always looked wonky on me, because my calfs were too thick due to sports (and please forget about all the being-a-size-0-otherwise-you-are-fat-stick). So here we come:

I've worked clothing retail, and I have actually stocked women's trousers multiple times that have decent pockets. I bought some to wear for work, and still have a couple of them, but to people working in the shop were the biggest sales of every line with decent pockets that I have ever stocked. It's not that they don't exist, it's that they sell so poorly that every time we had to either list stock at cost to get rid of it, or it was written off to be sent to those charities that produce huge clothing bales to send to Africa. I wish that they did sell, so more would be made and that I can use them, but they aren't going to produce what doesn't sell. Each of the lines ou shop had were made because of internet posts for more, and the average person didn't touch them.

I always alter my pockets when I get jeans that have small ones. It's pretty easy to do. That being said I have had some luck with some women's jeans, although I wear baggy styles and not skinnier ones as shown here.

Yeah I buy my nieces what they need, like clothes with pockets, and one handed easy open knives. My sister has a gun but they only have pocket mace. I know their dads are 💩 I'll have to train them

Uniqlo pants with elastics can help you my friend

The only thing I can think of is that they assume we all carry purses or handbags. I never carry one so this assumption is incorrect and infuriating.

You guessed quite right. When women wearing pants came into fashion a lot of the male! fashion designers at that time estimated that large pockets on women trousers (especially when filled) would ruin the petit and feminine silhouette of a woman. So they left them out and started to design handbags instead... Nowadays it's probably pink-tax! Companies safe on fabric, as women got used to have no/ridiculous small pockets, so less fabric for higher prices, as women usually are regarded to love shopping and wear the latest trends. (And don't get me started on how flimsy/ridiculous thin women's clothes are compared to the matching men's clothes! No wonder why women are cold so much more)... Luckily nowadays there are more and more internet brands which don't put up with the no-pockets policy anymore. I, when it comes to dresses, like Disturbia (a UK company) - and this is not an advertisement!!! I simply cheer on the fact that their pockets are large enough to "swallow" a Samsung phone!

Smaller hip pockets mean a "more flattering" silhouette is the reason I was always taught. It's a partial but ludicrous truth. Overstretched small pockets are not more flattering. It's especially irritating because although it's such a well-known issue clothing companies refuse to change anything. It's one more instance of women's concerns being heard and ignored. That's why it's such a huge celebration when we find clothes with actual pockets--not only do the pockets meet our needs but they validate that those needs have been heard and acted upon by someone somewhere. "And it has POCKETS!!!" leads to a gleeful conversation sharing brand/purchasing information. One would think that companies would take note. 🤔

Most women carry handbags and their phones are inside the handbags. That's why they don't need big pockets. Besides, pockets ruin the elegant line of women's clothing.
