Despite the popularity of 'Sips Tea,' many believe the internet is actually getting worse. And you don't need to look far for examples that support their case.
Nowadays, online searches are largely made up of "cookie cutter" pages that drown out useful information and are saturated with scams and content generated by artificial intelligence (AI).
While your social media feeds are full of eye-catching, provocative, hyper-targeted, or anger-inducing content, often with robot-like comments.

Marc Cheong, who is a Senior Lecturer of Information Systems (Digital Ethics) at the School of Computing and Information Systems, and Associate Director at the Centre for AI and Digital Ethics (CAIDE) at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and Wonsun Shin, an Associate Professor in Media and Communications at the same establishment, believe that a major factor contributing to the current state of the internet is its over-commercialization. Simply put, financial motives drive much of the content. According to them, it has led to the prevalence of sensationalism and prioritizing virality over quality.

Keep It Low-Key
Another driving force, the academics say, is the dominance of tech giants like Google, Meta, and Amazon. They reach billions worldwide and wield immense power over the content that we consume.
"Their platforms use advanced tracking technologies and opaque algorithms to generate hyper-targeted media content, powered by extensive user data," Cheong and Shin explain in their article. "This creates filter bubbles, where users are exposed to limited content that reinforces their existing beliefs and biases, and echo chambers where other viewpoints are actively discredited."

I Think About This A Lot When Finding Obscure Internet Advice
"Bad actors like cyber criminals and scammers have been an enduring problem online. However, evolving technology like generative AI has further empowered them, enabling them to create highly realistic fake images, deepfake videos, and voice cloning," Cheong and Shin added.
AI generated content has also flooded the internet with low-quality, misleading, and harmful material at an unprecedented scale.

AI generated content has also flooded the internet with low-quality, misleading, and harmful material at an unprecedented scale.
So, the researchers believ accelerated commercialization of the internet, the dominance of media tech giants and the presence of bad actors have infiltrated content on the internet. The rise of AI further intensifies this, making the internet more chaotic than ever

She Is Not Wrong
These things make the internet very different from what it used to be. Many of us might remember it as a free egalitarian space, where people were meant to "surf" and "browse." Even the early social media platforms were built on reconnecting with long-lost classmates and family members.

So what is there left to preserve, since 'Sips Tea' is taking care of the individual gems?
Cheong and Shin said our focus should be privary. They recalled a New Yorker cartoon from 1993 that states, "On the internet, nobody knows you're a dog" and highlighted that now, everyone – especially advertisers – wants to know who we are.
Is He Based Or Not?
A few years ago, I prepared food for my niece's wedding party so there was food for when they were all getting ready. We had two serving times, the first with breakfast type items and the second with heavier foods. We invited the photographers and makeup folks to eat whatever and whenever they wanted to; all seemed surprised and grateful. I had no idea there were people who didn't feed the folks who were there to help make their wedding day special.
Eat Healthy
Dang…at least eat lots of nuts for protein…as a Mexican life without meat is a crime! Never gonna get malnutrition with my family!
Even with nuts, a vegan diet doesn't give you any vitamin B12. https://www.vegansociety.com/resources/nutrition-and-health/nutrients/vitamin-b12/what-every-vegan-should-know-about-vitamin-b12
Load More Replies...Poor thing. What she did wasn't clever but she didn't want to die and who knows what mental state she was in. No mentally healthy person can look at the second picture and not see that something's amiss (and by that I mean that something like anorexia etc. must have been going on, I'm not insulting her).
I don't know whether it's an official medical/psychological term, but "orthorexia" describes a compulsion to eat "right" or "healthy". Unfortunately, what a person considers a healthy diet isn't always actually healthy. I can't stand influencers, but this is indeed quite sad.
Load More Replies...Thank you, this wasn't only about being raw vegan. It's a mental disease...
Load More Replies...I've switched to a quasi-vegetarian diet (includes cheese, fish/seafood) due to cholesterol. I have to keep track of what I'm eating in order to maintain proper nutrition because cütting out meat needed to be replaced from other, healthier, sources. But I curious about something. If she was an influencer, she must've had an impressive number of followers. Had those followers been horrified by what they were seeing and stopped following her, she might still be alive. Doesn't say much about the character of her viewers who remained engaged till the end.
Humanity was never intended to be vegan. We are omnivores. Which means we eat whatever is available. If you want to be responsible, go free range, grass fed, and organic
Humanity is highly (physically) adaptable. We don't NEED to eat animals to stay healthy. Producing and consuming the amount of meat we do is counterproductive to our environment and our health.
Load More Replies...Her name was Zhanna Samsonova ("Zhanna D’art"), died in 2023. She survived eating only durian, jackfruit, sprouts and sunflower seeds, and for a long time had a severe lack of important nutrients to the point that she was hospitalized multiple times, and even escaped the hospital. The diet left her with swollen lymphonodes, heart arythmia and generally severe debilitation, that she interpreted as being "healthy", being affected by a psychological eating disorder known as Orthorexia. What's worse is that she made money through influencer BS and sold her "diets" to gullible people, leading to more people harming themselves.
She died in Malaysia while in intensive care for exhaustion, malnutrition and dehydration (she claimed to never drink water, surviving only on fruit juices). She claimed her diet was an effective cure for COVID, cancer and other ailments.
Load More Replies...Very sad. Why did no family member intervene and get her to a doctor?
This woman had issues that didn't allow her to acknowledge the problem with how she was eating. It's sad, actually.
NO!!! Darwin’s Award should be reserved for the foolish, not the mentally ill.
Load More Replies...Thats not being vegan - thats a straight up eating disorder. People are literally dying for followers and subs. So sad.
Humans were never meant to be vegan, or really vegetarian. Our bio-flora and dental development say were omnivores.
The winner of the Darwin Longevity Award goes to... To paraphrase my favorite Marvel hero, Blade; "There is always somebody trying to ice skate uphill."
She was an influencer who passed on faulty information to other people. One less source of fake information in the world! Her death has probably saved hundreds of lives.
