We always tell the older cat that she's in charge. It's because the other one is just too irresponsible - and she knows it, too.

Oh, more than just that. I teach 4 - and 5 -year olds, and one of the phonological concepts we work on is counting the words in a sentence. The last time we practiced it, I changed the sentence in the lesson from "Be a good boy" (Ick) to "Be a good cat." I told my class that every day when I leave for school, I tell my cat I love her, that I will see her later, and to be a good cat. I wasn't kidding. They thought it was hilarous....so did my aide, LOL.

Everyday I tell her I'll be home in the evening.

Yes, I read a long time ago about using "code words" while leaving to reassure pets that you're returning. I say, 'Be a good kitty, stay and watch the house' whenever I leave.

We have always addressed the dog that we would be back later and to guard the house (least likely to guard the house, more likely to show them where all the expense things are)
