We all know that the internet is full of heartbreaking news headlines and negativity from individuals who never want to hear beliefs that oppose their own. And while it’s important to stay up to date with current events, you should never forget the importance of positivity too. In fact, taking in some wholesome content might even be beneficial for your health!
According to Think with Google, viewing some feel-good content can release dopamine and provide you with more motivation, satisfaction and pleasure. Plus, we need dopamine to help our memories, get better quality sleep and allow us to be able to concentrate. In fact, even advertisers know the importance of spreading positive vibes to customers.
“I do a lot of research on consumer mood and emotion. In television advertising in particular, for the most part, 90-95% is still positive, upbeat advertising,” Nancy Puccinelli, a professor of marketing at the University of Bath, told Think with Google. “The basic premise is that if the ad makes people feel good, their attitudes towards nearly anything you show them will go up considerably. And there’s also a significant knock on effect on behavior - all other things being equal, if a brand makes me feel good, I’m going to be inclined to buy that brand.”
While the word “wholesome” hasn’t always had a positive connotation, the New York Times published a piece last year explaining how the term has become a compliment for Gen Z. Prior to about 2018, “wholesomeness” was often linked to conservative and traditional values. In recent years, however, it’s been reclaimed to describe anything that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. “I think it caught on a lot because it’s just a word that sounds cool,” 22-year-old Enzo Luna told the NYT. “It’s such a strong and simple word.”
Wholesome memes have flooded the internet over the past few years, and they might have come about in direct opposition to the sarcastic memes millennials used to share in the early 2010s. Those pics were often “coated with dark humor and doused in irony,” the NYT explains, but these wholesome memes are simple and uplifting. “Sometimes those ironic and satirical memes are too heavy-handed, and they go into things that, at a certain point, it’s not really a joke anymore,” Luna shared, noting that he often prefers a sweet cat video instead.

This reminds me of the time I cat sat for a friend. I was supposed to go over twice a day and feed and change the box etc. I never laid eyes on his cat. Three days go by and none of the food has been touched. That cat was gone! My friend was livid and never spoke to me again. That was 25 years ago and I still miss him. Come to find out, his neighbor said HE let the cat out when he left on this trip and the cat had been living with him.
I go look after my mum's cats when she goes away. When I visit normally with my mum at home (which is generally 4-5 times a week) they are happy to see me, come for attention and play fights etc. When she is away, by the second day, 2 of them are almost feral, running and hiding or getting aggressive, whilst the other 2 get needier. Makes zero sense but then I'm not a cat.
I used to do in-home pet sitting, and one of my clients was extremely shy and not fond of strangers. She was eating and drinking, but I wanted to ease my concern by seeing her. So, I made like I was leaving, opened/closed the door, and snuck back to lay on the LR carpet. The ploy worked.
A seizure and she had sensed it and tried to get me on the floor to stop me from hurting myself. She was licking me on the face to try to wake me up. After that every time she did the same trying to pull me to the floor I'd immediately get down and come to with her licking my face. She was an amazing cat. She passed away a year later from cancer and I've lost count of how many times I've come to on the floor covered in bruises. I miss her still 9 years after she passed away.
I have had the same catsitter since 2014 and she has never seen my cat. My cat usually welcomes me screaming before I even enter the room.
My cat is the sweetest cat I've had. I'm the only one who ever sees her.

When I'd just left my ex and moved into my own house when I was 40, the very first day I got a phone call from the pet charity in our state asking if I would be willing to adopt an elderly cat of 18. She had lived with her elderly owner since she was just 4 months old but her owner could no longer look after herself or her cat so she was moved to a nursing home. Her daughter left the cat in the old apartment for a month, visiting twice a week to refill the water and food bowls and clean the litter tray. Luckily a neighbour found out, called the pet charity who immediately called the daughter to ask if they could take custody of the cat and she agreed so same day my cat arrived. Left the cage open and she immediately went under the couch. About 30 minutes later I was just starting to make dinner when she appeared behind me and bit my trousers and tried to pull me down to the floor. I started a new job yesterday. I haven't been able to work in 7 years, and I was very nervous. Several customers gave me words of encouragement and advice for how to make the job easier. It ended up being a really nice day!
