Interview With ExpertEveryone knows that one person who seems to be on better terms with random animals than with most people. After all, animals are cute and generally easy to understand while humans have a “wonderful” habit of just being annoying and selfish. So it stands to reason that animals might also be a great source of memes.
We’ve gathered some of the cutest and most hilarious examples of animal memes from across the internet. We also got in touch with Nina Thompson from the San Diego Humane Society to learn what we can do to help our furry friends in need. Pets just know. If my dogs don't like you, I trust their instinct and keep my distance. (They love boops and scritches from everyone) They saved me drama with someone a few years back.
I'm sure that man is very lovely, but cats love music. My cat does this if I play the guitar. And if I put on a sound bath he leaps through the window and listens to it with me.
Well done sir. And those jumpers look great. Love the one like a Penguin book cover paticularly.
We need more news about teens like this. There's plenty of them out there.
hopefully a pet cow and not one that you will eventually sell to the highest bidder to butcher
Bored Panda got in touch with Nina Thompson from the San Diego Humane Society and she was kind enough to answer some questions. First and foremost, we wanted to hear more about their story.
“The San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.”

We were in a zoo one winter and it was getting dark. There was a clan of meerkats that had been very active when it was light. Now, many of them had vanished down into their burrows. Except for a small group in a large wooden tub under some heat lamps. I swear, with wafts of 'steam' rising up, it looked like a hot tub full of meerkats.
I've seen this loads of times but it cracks me up every time! I love it!
“With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 13 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for more than 40,000 animals in our communities annually, but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities."
"While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.”

Naturally, we wanted to know what an average person can do right now to help if they feel so inclined. “With record numbers of animals currently in shelters, San Diego Humane Society urges community members to “think adoption first” when considering adding an animal to their family. Adopting a shelter pet comes with considerable benefits for the adopter – but most importantly, it saves lives and directly ensures that San Diego County can Stay at zero euthanasia of healthy or treatable shelter pets.”

“Even though San Diego County is one of the safest communities for animals, our shelters are over capacity and filled with animals in need of new homes. Animal welfare organizations alone, no matter how dedicated, cannot ensure a future in which every shelter pet is safe. We need those who are looking to add pets to their families to choose adoption.”
There was a whimsical mammalogy journal article some decades ago that speculated on what mammal would have replaced humans if primates hadn't existed. Raccoons came out as most likely.
Raccoons are f*ckin' badass and will probably (hopefully) outlive us all!😎

Hummingbirds are awesome! Quite territorial - it's funny to see a hummingbird chasing birds away from its feeder!
We had a hummingbird hit our window and stun itself. To keep anything from eating it, I held it until it recovered, maybe 10 minutes. It was incredible to hold it. I felt like I was crowned a princess to have been honored in such a way.
I may have tried for like ten minutes to pull this up using the location given on the instagram link to no avail. (Ulleung-gun is one location they say pupper is)

“We recognize that many people are looking for animals with certain traits — and right now, animals of nearly every size, shape, age and breed can be found in shelters or rescues. No matter what type of pet you’re seeking — from puppies and kittens to senior pets, tortoises, rabbits, guinea pigs and more — you can find a great match at a shelter and be a hero for animals in the process.”

Yet another thing to kill me there. FYI those stingers aren't barbed so they actually can sting again.
Wait... a bee native to Australia... there is native lavender in Australia?

Load More Replies...“The impact of adoption has a ripple effect: By giving one incredible pet a second chance, you open up space in the shelter for another life to be saved. Additionally, there are many practical reasons to consider adoption. Every pet adopted from a shelter or rescue has been microchipped, vaccinated and spayed or neutered — services that can easily cost a pet family over $1,000. Most shelters and rescues also offer an adoption guarantee, meaning they will welcome the animal back into their care at any time if it isn’t the right match.”

maybe not excruciating, but certainly is an instinctual trigger.
Load More Replies...So, if one is looking to adopt, we wanted to hear what tips she would suggest. “Before looking for a pet, decide what characteristics about a pet you value the most. This will help you determine what type of pet will fit best into your family. Many people want puppies, but you shouldn’t write off an adult dog. Most adult dogs already know or quickly pick up housetraining, and many older dogs are past the destructive puppy phase. What you see is what you get with an adult—the size of your new dog, his coat, and probably his temperament.”
I guess that's what the kids are calling it these days

“If you’ve never adopted before and are unsure if you want to make the commitment, fostering is a great way to try out having a pet without making a permanent commitment. It’s a win-win situation. You give a pet a break from the stressful shelter environment, while opening up space for other animals in need, and you get to try out being a pet owner – at no cost to you! The shelter will pay for food and medical care, you provide the space and love.”
fúcking, BP. The bee is having a really FÙCKING good day. Tell the punchline or don't tell the joke. Fúck.
Looks like he got into the powdered cheese in a kraft dinner.
Ok, Gloria, I wore the dang costume.... now wheres my Scooby Snack?!
I think I've seen this photo before, and it was a Halloween or a convention or something, the spots were painted on. Well done.
Even if it is intentional, it's still bloody brilliant!
Load More Replies...“The lifesaving benefits of fostering cannot be overstated. Temporarily opening your heart and home to a pet offers the personal attention and vital security that our shelter animals need. We also learn characteristics about that animal that will help find a better match when speaking to potential adopters. Many pets don't show their true personalities in a kennel setting. In a foster home, pets can decompress and blossom into a loving companion that potential adopters are looking for.”
Reminds me very much of a Martin Brothers Wallybird. Look them up. Those wallybirds are extremely rare and very valuable.
Each of the birds was hand-modelled by the eldest of the brothers, Robert Martin. He gave each one a unique, distinctive face and it's likely that he based them on people he didn't like. He had a deep dislike of the clergy and authority figures, and the birds were said to resemble local clergymen, councilmen and others who had annoyed him in one way or another.
Load More Replies...Yeah, this a reminder from Big Pete. Keep the feeder full or maybe you have an accident? Just sayin'
Make him a offer that no bird brain will refuse
Load More Replies...I believe that there's evidence showing that these cute little guys will actually prey on mice, voles, sparrows and other small animals when it's cold and there's a shortage of food. A big change from insects, berries, seeds and spiders.
makes me think of the muscles in a full grown kangaroo - or even a squirrel - have you ever looked really closely at the shoulders of a squirrel?
Reminds me of Chris Hemsworth arms. He and the tiger should arm wrestle.
“Don’t ever buy a pet from a pet store. Most, if not all, puppies sold in pet stores come from commercial breeding facilities, largely located in Missouri, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York. Often referred to as puppy mills, these are horrifying commercial farms where dogs and sometimes cats are bred over and over, never leaving a tiny, filthy cage and with little to no human interaction or even veterinary care. It’s time for these institutions to go away. If you have your heart set on a purebred puppy, it’s imperative to find a responsible breeder.” If you want to learn more, you can check out their website.
Or, like me, you holler their name multiple times with no answer, only to find them hiding three feet away staring at you silently 😅
Not natural and not AI. Once again, it was made by putting this lid on a hive with the specific intention of creating a heart. lid-66fc42...48eb27.jpg
Debunked so many times, yet pops up over and over again with that crappy title. Wish there was some content control on BP posts instead of "fill this listicle with as much cráp as fast as possible to generate clicks"
Load More Replies...I once walked into a shed that bees had built a hive in, and saw a much larger version of this. The bees didn't care about me standing there, so I got to watch them at work. Unfortunately, it did have to be removed, and I was quite surprised that no local beekeepers would come and take them. :(
Oh, the retired engineer in me is green with envy at this design. And the little buggers didn't have to attend university to learn this.
Or just adopt an adult dog, ffs. There are a lot of them at the shelter who would be wonderful pets, and they’re already trained and calmed down. The more senior, the better!
psst- that's what the poster is actually advocating, genius
Load More Replies...My God, yes it does! My orange cat was a menace for years but a lovable and a-dork-able menace. When he reached "senior cat" phase, he passed his brain cell to my other cat and went into full on senior phase. Sleeps 26 hours a day and food he's eaten for 10 years is unacceptable (including the new flavor of treats and the kibble he loved for a year), as well as everything else in the house.
Load More Replies...Puppies get very chompy. Theres a reason it’s called housebreaking. They’re really good at breaking the house
Ha. hahahahahahaha I got my puppy (from the SPCA... not a breeder) **exactly** when she started the Velociraptor phase. I love her to bits, even 11 years later.
Amen to that. If we can skip the 4-24 shown above, we all will be happier.
I wasn't sure what I was supposed to be looking at at first.

Cats also poop in your shoes, throw up on your bed and good luck getting any pee odor off of the new couch that the cat has marked as his. However a baby will throw up, pee and poo directly on you. But when either one is asleep on your chest it is the best feeling in the world
Try having 2 balls - when he gets close with the first, throw the second, and hopefully, he will drop the first.
Load More Replies...We bought our dog a lattice ball made from a very tough chew toy material. So I can throw it, and play tug of war with him when he brings it back. We can both get a good grip on it, and he'll let go after a bit so I can throw it again and start over. Best of both types of toys.
Re-enacting that scene from "Dirty Dancing" where they practice the lift.
"And...I... Had... The time of my LIIIIIIFFFFFEEEE, and I owe it all to you!"
They bite, though... And their pee stings... Aaaand they taste horrible. All in all, a win day for lady bugs.
However, their almost twin, the Japanese Lady Beetle, is a nuisance. If what looks like a Ladybug comes into your house, it’s not a Ladybug, it’s a Japanese Lady Beetle, and they will end up all over your house. Ladybugs do not come inside houses, even in winter. That’s the biggest difference. There are other differences, but they’re things like tiny markings, so they’re hard to see at a distance. So, if there’s a swarm of Ladybug lookalikes around your doors and windows, do not let them in or you will end up overrun with them. I know this because I made the mistake and thought they were Ladybugs—-and I like Ladybugs so I left them alone, not knowing Ladybugs do not come inside houses when it gets cold—-and my house ended up being absolutely overrun with them.
Dont be fooled, they do bite, if it is a compliment remains to be seen
One day when I was a teenager I pulled off a panel in my bedroom and found an 8 foot high solid sheet of ladybugs. Forever ruined their beauty for me.
Irl pelicans are kind of terrifying trust me. They can get big and be as well tempered as an angry goose. That one looks manageable, but I had one by the pier that was about ¾ my size and bad tempered
My mom had one land next to her as she was just off the bus. It was her height 5 ft and scared the c**p out of her. It was in the city. Not by the beach but in a beach town. Yeah, it followed her for two blocks. Two city blocks. It wasn't bad tempered, luckily.
Load More Replies...Have seen IRL, a pelican eat a pigeon. Saw one try to catch a rat. Wondered about how well that would have turned out. Have seen videos of a pelican eating a small seagull. They look prehistoric, and sometimes, the linkage to dinosaurs seems to surface. :)
I saw a big crow trying to catch a rat once, underneath the park bench right next to mine. Got its beak round the head just like this one. But it didn't work out very well. Rats are strong.

A: Nice burn. B: PETA is about *responsible* treatment of animals. That can involve culling. This issue is the mindless exploitation of animals for profit. PETA is not perfect, anymore than Greenpeace is, but they both serve the greater good despite their flaws.
well until she got old and died Bossy was a fabulous cow friend. Ummm lots of good milk from that old girl.
Buckshot. He was allowed inside and was trained to a saddle (not much fun when he stepped on your foot, though).
You may remember a protest by PETA members at a Trader Joe's in San Diego. These f*cking morons had signs with cows on them stating "Milk is Murder" and "We Just Want to Live". Are you f*cking kidding me? I asked one of the ladies if she had any kids. She did. I asked if she breast fed them & she said, "Of course I did". Okay, soooooo - no one had to kill you to get the milk?" They were rushed out of the store almost immediately.
