Actually we as Americans can go with the our spelling, but it's not pushed. Meaning, both are correct spellings and you can go to whichever one you prefer. That's what I was taught back in the 80s.

I once saw a meme about American English being "simplified english" and tbh, it kind of makes sense. Not in a mean way, but American English is simplified in the fact it gets rid of pointless letters, spells things in ways it sounds, etc. xP

Actually, apparently it had to do with it being it cheaper to send telegraphs without the extra letter. I read that a while ago anyway.

When you buy a cuppa from a hot tea truck in the UK (not sure what they are called, but they look like the mobile fries cars in the Netherlands), the tea is boiled for a long time in the cooker, which makes it really strong and lovely, and then you have to add milk or you won't be able to process it! Especially the Earl Grey is perfect:).

Our drúg dealers use it as well.
