When reading such posts, I feel always sad, because the best solution for almost all of those families would be some kind of government (or company) paid child care to give the parents time and peace of mind to work and provide for the family. Sadly, children seem not to be seen as an investment in our future. Just imagine, what kind of people this little ones can grow into, if raised and educated collectively by professionals who are paid well and treated with respect. Edit: we moved to another country when our second one was just 6weeks old. The first years, I only worked for the childcare, to give both of them the opportunity to socialize and grow into the community and the new culture. Without family or friends, we had to rely on private paid help by babysitters and private kindergarten. We are very lucky to be able to pick and pay. Unfortunately, not everyone has this opportunity and almost always the children suffer
Half of these feel entitled and delusional, but the other half - they're still completely out of touch, but they seem desperate. You can't pay what you don't have. But you can't work without childcare. This is why subsidized local childcare (daycare etc) helps lift people out of financial instability. It's an absolute must that isn't properly invested in. Some people are just trying their best. That said, if you know you can't offer competitive pay, you can at least make it as easy on the sitter as possible. No extra chores. No unusual requirements that aren't for the direct health and safety of the child or children. But even then - if you can't offer anywhere near minimum wage and you need full time care - I'm sorry, but that's just not going to work.

Some of those look like desperate single mothers fallen on hard times seeking help, others are plain out entitled and some just fake as hell. My SAHM SIL was babysitting two kids for some of those rates at her own house, just to help some other moms out. What amazes me the most is the degree requirement. For what purpose do these people need a college educated person to watch their kids. And why on earth would you spend the money getting a degree only to watch kids.
Professional Nannie's can make good money and many have degrees or special training. But you're looking at starting rates of about $30/hr here in So. Cal.

When reading such posts, I feel always sad, because the best solution for almost all of those families would be some kind of government (or company) paid child care to give the parents time and peace of mind to work and provide for the family. Sadly, children seem not to be seen as an investment in our future. Just imagine, what kind of people this little ones can grow into, if raised and educated collectively by professionals who are paid well and treated with respect. Edit: we moved to another country when our second one was just 6weeks old. The first years, I only worked for the childcare, to give both of them the opportunity to socialize and grow into the community and the new culture. Without family or friends, we had to rely on private paid help by babysitters and private kindergarten. We are very lucky to be able to pick and pay. Unfortunately, not everyone has this opportunity and almost always the children suffer
Half of these feel entitled and delusional, but the other half - they're still completely out of touch, but they seem desperate. You can't pay what you don't have. But you can't work without childcare. This is why subsidized local childcare (daycare etc) helps lift people out of financial instability. It's an absolute must that isn't properly invested in. Some people are just trying their best. That said, if you know you can't offer competitive pay, you can at least make it as easy on the sitter as possible. No extra chores. No unusual requirements that aren't for the direct health and safety of the child or children. But even then - if you can't offer anywhere near minimum wage and you need full time care - I'm sorry, but that's just not going to work.

You may be right. Mind you, I have met some very entitled parents that I could imagine writing such an ad. So at least some of them might be real.

My SAHM SIL was babysitting two kids for some of those rates at her own house, just to help some other moms out. A good nanny does teach the kids. If you pay actual money for your nanny you can get one educated in child development. They teach the babies ABC's counting, motor skills. I couldn't get through them all. I think this kind of entitlement comes from the notion that a mother who stays home to look after her own kids is "not working". Female labour has always been regarded as unimportant and not worth paying for and mothers have been expected to do it for love alone, so people are shocked when someone other than a mother expects money to do childcare.

BUT want them on-call 24/7 for childcare think the money comes from to PAY THEM to babysit THEIR child ?? How many independently wealthy people do they think are out there just waiting for the chance to babysit their child for free/pay THEM for the privilege of watching their child?? Zero. I suspect on a lot of these posts the people who used to babysit for less than slave wages were family and/or friends, but these OPs now expect everyone else to follow the same deal and they're finding out that's not the case
I don't get the criminal/child abuse checks on these. Just because they don't have a record, it really doesn't mean anything other than they haven't yet been caught. Don't get me wrong...background checks are important when dealing with childcare, but these wages are so low, how do they expect to get quality aboveboard people just because they threaten background checks? These ads just scream "I don't care enough about my child to pay for quality care" and pervs are answering back, "I'll be right there!"
As delusionary as these are, I think it's more of an indictment of the lack of parental and child support in what is arguably the richest nation in the history of the world, the same one where the so-called "pro-life" & "family values" party constantly votes against those things.
What is up with "must provide food"? As a nanny/babysitter for almost 20 years, I never had to bring food for the kids, it was always provided, and 99.9% of the time was provided for me as well. Yes, I may have had to make a hot dog or mac and cheese occasionally, but it was always provided.
Some of these are terrible for sure, but let me tell you, life happens and I know it, even with a really good job, you can't go to the really good money making job if you cannot find anyone to watch your kid, I work weekends and start at 6 am, us healthcare workers who are single parents know the absolute desperation of trying to find people who will watch our kids, and have people say things like "maybe you shouldn't have kids then" well I have them now and I'm responsible for them.
