70 Times People Saw Americans Embarrassing Themselves Online And Just Had To Take A Screenshot (New Pics)
InterviewNo matter where you live, you probably have an idea of what’s going on in the United States. Even if you don’t follow global politics closely, you have likely absorbed information about the American president through headlines or conversations with colleagues.
But when you live in the US, it’s pretty easy to be in a bubble. There’s so much news coverage circulating about what’s happening at home that people sometimes forget to educate themselves about the rest of the world. And unfortunately, some of these individuals are a bit too confident when making comments online. Below, you'll find some of the funniest posts from the [Stuff] Americans Say subreddit. Now, we understand that these images certainly don’t reflect the views or intelligence level of an entire nation. But we hope that you’ll find them entertaining, even if you are a proud American!

“There Has Never Been Another Nation That Has Existed Much Beyond 250 Years”
My town is currently celebrating its 800 year of being settled. And my kids school has been a school longer than America has been independent. Not to mention the Magna Carta, which was signed in 1215....
The [Stuff] Americans Say subreddit has been around since 2013 and has amassed nearly 800K members. The group’s goal is to call out amusing and shockingly ignorant comments that Americans make online, but of course, it’s all done in good fun.
To find out how the community has been since the last time we featured it on Bored Panda, we got in touch with one of the group's moderators. "Not much has changed," the mod says. "Trump and his administration (former and present) were already treated as 'low-hanging fruit' here (and in any case, there are many subs dedicated to stupid things Trump and his entourage say, so we want to avoid duplication)."
"There are more posts about things like ICE and tariffs (though most ICE posts tend not to be very lighthearted, so [many] don't make it past pre-moderation)," the mod added.
"Tarrifs Will Bring Some Prices Down Hopefully, Like iPhone. And Samsung Phone $1000-$1200 Is Ridiculous"
‘In A Third World Country Like Spain’
We also asked the moderator what advice they would give to Americans who want to avoid being featured on their page. "Don't assume everyone understands US cultural references (TV shows, fast food chains, measurements, date formats, currency etc.)," they told Bored Panda. "You'll find examples of this on our sister sub r/USDefaultism too."
"In particular, don't say, 'I'm Irish/Italian/German/whatever' unless you're an actual citizen. You should clarify that you mean 'heritage,' otherwise you risk the wrath of your (claimed) countrymen," the mod warns.
"How Do People In England Feel About America Celebrating Today??? Is Wimbledon Their Way Of Snubbing Their Nose At Our Holiday???"
Finally, the moderator shared some suggestions for how Americans can educate themselves about the rest of the world. "Look for foreign news sources (e.g. BBC, The Guardian, Deutsche Welle, France 24, Telesur, etc., which have pages in English) to get different points of view about current events and foreign cultures, as well as how US culture and politics are perceived abroad."
"Ahhhh Just Another European Cope Chart"
It’s no secret that the United States is a global powerhouse. The nation is home to the largest economy in the world, and culturally, it’s considered one of the most influential countries as well. The US is the planet’s fourth largest producer of film, and the world’s largest producer of music. You can ask plenty of people around the globe what their favorite movie, television show or song is, and there will be a chance that their response came from the United States, regardless of their native country or language.
"While In Germany I Found An Aldi. The Aldi Is Nothing Like An American Aldi"
As a young nation, the United States has done incredible things in less than 250 years. But with great power comes great responsibility. And when you’re the third most populated country on the planet, all eyes are on you. So you better be prepared to be held accountable by your audience.
Everyone deserves to be held accountable for their mistakes, and the internet is a wonderful place to learn and grow! It’s just unfortunate that the most ignorant voices are often the loudest. And in the United States, there are simply more people in general than almost any other country. So with a large population comes a greater amount of people who probably shouldn’t have access to social media.
Most People Around The World Move To The United States
Yeah...where the government uses its tax dollars collected from its citizens to aid their people with health care and myriad other ways. Buncha commies ;)

For The Local People $1 Is A Lot Of Money
Now, let’s break down some of the most common assumptions people around the world make about Americans. One is that we’re absolutely terrible at geography. Now, it’s estimated that only about half of the country’s population can actually label all 50 states on a map. And one survey found that 44% of Americans can’t correctly identify EU nations on a map.
So perhaps it’s true that Americans aren’t the best at geography. But plenty of Europeans probably can’t identify more than a handful of American states either. So it might not be fair to dunk on Americans for their geographical knowledge (or lack thereof).
Imagine Saying: “Oh I’m 1.829 Meters Tall…”

Millenials Hear Socialism And Think Canada And Switzerland
Something else the world loves to criticize Americans for is being monolingual. While it’s true that you can certainly make your way through the American school system without becoming fluent in another language, students are typically required to study a foreign language for at least two years in high school. Meanwhile, data from the US Census Bureau found that 22% of Americans actually don’t speak English at home. So it’s not exactly fair to paint the whole nation as monolingual.

Europeans Are Way More Susceptible To Propaganda *then* Americans
This next assumption about the United States doesn’t have to do with intelligence, but it’s certainly something that the rest of the world likes to clown on us for: being unhealthy and/or overweight. It’s true that 40% of the nation is considered obese, according to the CDC. However, when it comes to the most obese countries in the world, the United States ranks 19th. And in the United Kingdom, 28% of adults are considered obese. So while this is certainly an issue in the US, it’s not the only nation that is struggling with an obesity epidemic.
“Isn’t This A Violation Of FAA Regulations?”
I'm always amazed that Americans seem to believe that the FAA and TSA are global. I did have a good laugh when an American was arrested for flying into Australia with a gun in her luggage 😅

Where In The World? Everywhere
It’s easy to assume that the United States is full of ignorant people when that’s all you see online. But in reality, the nation has plenty of brilliant, innovative individuals. Futura published an article celebrating the greatest scientific advancements from the 20th century, and many actually came from the good old USA. They noted that the country was home to the first successful organ transplant. And who can forget NASA putting the first man on the moon in 1969?

Load More Replies...I know, off topic, but what the hell is wrong with you, Argentina?? 80°C difference, that's insane!
I see a profound misunderstanding of what accuracy and precision means in the context of measurement.
True true. However, 104 degrees Fahrenheit just sound hotter than 40 degrees Celsius.
I wonder if the 12.7 degrees is correct, or that it should be minus 12.7 degrees. It seems illogical that the surrounding countries have minus 11 and minus 14, and for this one to never even go into freezing at all.
It's perfectly logical. The northernmost point in Guyana is only a hair over 8° north of the equator and the highest elevation is only about 9,000 feet. Venezuela reaches about 16,000' and Columbia reaches almost 19,000'. What's surprising is that the (almost) extra 3000' of elevation in Columbia doesn't result in a difference from Venezuela.
Load More Replies...Another hill I will die on is that the Fahrenheit scale is far better for measuring human comfort levels. Celsius: 0°, water starts to freeze. 100°, everyone is dead. Fahrenheit: 0°, it’s incredibly cold. 100°, it’s incredibly hot.
What humans are you talking about? Humans from Norway, or humans from Namibia? They will be used to, and therefore totally comfortable, in radically different temperatures. You can prefer to use Fahrenheit if you want but 'measuring comfort' is a silly reason.

Well I'm not normally proud of this but we (British) were the largest empire in history and in the 1920's we were at our largest. No one country has ever in history controlled more of the Earth than the British in the 1920's. So yeah... apologies for that but USA can go fück themselves. Amateurs.

Load More Replies...I have a theory that might explain these strange and disturbing phenomena. The government of the United States has always been worried about the loyalty of the common people. Think back to the early national period, and incidents such as the Whisky Rebellion. Due to cheap land and immigration, the right to vote was held by more common people in the United States than compared to other countries. In the 19th century, immigration shifted from western Europe to other countries where religion, society, and culture were very different from the Anglo-Saxon stock that originally settled here. So powers that were had to find a way to transform, for example, Eastern European people with their strange religions (Orthodoxy, Judaism, Catholicism) into good little (Anglo Saxon) loyal Americans. Mandatory public education, which began after the Civil War, became the means by which this goal could be achieved.
So we Americans began to be indoctrinated that we were all immigrants Entering into a “melting pot” becoming true (Anglo Saxon) Americans and should be loyal to the USA which is the very best country in the world. This indoctrination program coincided with the amazing transformation of the nation into an economic powerhouse in the latter 19th century, so it’s kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. The 20th century the US became a world Power militarily and because the world wars were primarily fought elsewhere and were were on the winning side by the 1950s we were undamaged compared to Europe, Japan, and China. Then the Cold War led to more nervousness in the powerful political elites, so more need to emphasize the US greatness and ideological superiority.
