Aaliyah died in a plane crash a few years later. But for the next two decades, Kelly was accused of preying on teenage girls in the entertainment industry. The predator was finally pinned down, found guilty of a range of sickening crimes. And sent to jail for thirty years.

In the US, that's so often the case, especially if the accused is famous, well-liked/admired, & wealthy. They're painted as liars, just after $. & Especially the women accusers. The accused, if he admits to having had sex with a woman who says she was SA,* he'll claim it was consensual. Not surprisingly, a lot of the public - including women - will be of the opinion that the woman enticed him, sometimes by dressing provocatively, as part of a set-up to get $. I'm sure some ARE liars & after $. But I tend to give more credence to accusations against prominent sports figures. [NOTE: I'm in absolutely no way saying the following applies in all cases.] In the US, young athletes (sometimes starting as early as middle school, then thru high school) showing tremendous talent & with outstanding success on the fields/courts, leading their teams to school championships, often are catered to, have their every want/whim fulfilled, receive special privileges, have any bad behavior excused (boys will be boys, you know) or covered up - teacher's have even been pressured to raise grades so the student athletes will meet the grade requirements for playing sports. And in colleges it gets worse. I don't know how much it happens now but in recent memory when highly sought after high school athletes were invited to the various school campuses to see what campus life is like (& to get the hard sell on signing with the school), it's not been unheard of that very attractive female students are assigned to give them the campus tours. Supporters/boosters of colleges have been known to break rules, giving college athletes cars, money, token summer jobs in their businesses, etc. They may get enrolled in crip courses in order to keep their grade averages up . [When I was in college, the "student" athletes were housed in a separate dorm (I never saw pictures of the inside but supposedly it & the rooms were among - if not nicer than - the best dorms of the general student population.) near the practice facilities. They had special meals (as if they were eating at a pro team's training table), enforced study periods, tutors, & escorts to ensure they actually attended classes.] If they then advance to the pros & are successful, some are practically worshipped by sports fans + they can get paid unconscionable amounts of $. So, from their childhoods they've been taught they're special & are entitled to anything/everything they want & will get it - or it's ok to take it - sometimes including women. *(D Trump once denied a SA accusation, saying he'd never had sex with the woman & never would - she wasn't that attractive.)

The trial was dropped because she refused to testify most likely due to her name being leaked. They did reach a settlement which seems to indicate he was guilty. Just so aggravating that he skated by punishment and people forget what he did and make him a hero and bury this part of his past.

According to Wikipedia (may be sketchy, but I didn't want to buy a whole biography, so here we go) her name was Lita Grey, and she was Chaplin's second wife (his first one was 16 when they married): "By her own account she first met Charlie Chaplin at the age of eight [...], and first worked with him at the age of 12 [...]. They published this study in the Journal Of Adolescent Health. And revealed some disturbing facts that many might not even be aware of.

From what i know about his trials things were not as conclusive as they seemed. Lots of kids came out saying their parents made them lie. Including another child actor the one form home alone. I think the dude was suffering form some f****d up trauma and wanted to relive his childhood. I mean it is still sick but not pedo kind of sick more mentally insane kind of sick. "Leaving Neverland" is a Netflix documentary about two of Michael Jackson's former child "friends" who are now adults. They're interviewed extensively about their experiences, as are others, and you will not come away from that viewing experience feeling the same way you did before. If you experienced childhood SA or know anyone who did their stories will ring absolutely true. Their experience of, as a child, rationalising the abuse as something that just happened between friends - a defense mechanism. Only realising how wrong it was when they were triggered by their own children or children in their lives reaching that age. The discussion around dissociative states (such as watching the abuse happen from outside their own bodies),. These are textbook reactions to to CSA. They weren't paid. Sharing opened them up to ridicule, attack, denial and shaming. They had no reason to lie. He wasn't convicted, but there is no doubt in my mind he was guilty.

It now misses the top 100 most streamed songs of the 20th century. Why post anonymous posts from people who heard or have a friend of a friend of a friend. Even the title of the post is nothing but quotation marks which immediately shows it's just people saying shït. For the most part, these posts are nothing but rumor mongering.

SOME of this is true and is well known. But a fair bit of it is untrue and can be proved false. I'm surprised BP is exposing itself to being sued by some really big names..

Yeah. I did see several that seemed to be merely rumors with no basis or had a grain of truth but are exaggerated to be worse than they are or just bad.

I'm kind of bothered by some of the language used to describe the very young girls who were being exploited, or to describe what happened to them. As well, I'm bothered by the language used regarding ADULT women, in which the adults are being infantilized with condescending language, as if an adult can't make their own decisions, in a way that's rarely done with men in their 20s. If an adult woman wants to date an older man, that's her right as an adult. Some of the language in this article is disturbingly misogynistic.

In fairness I think I've seen this talk with relationships where the man is say 22 and the woman 42 as well. There's kind of a thing now that age-gap relationships are bad even if both are fully adults. Not sure where it came from.

Roman Polanski drugged and raped a 13 year old when he was 45. He plead guilty but while on bail he fled the US and hasn't been back since. He didn't attend the Academy Awards when he won Best Director (where many of Hollywood's elite gave him a standing ovation) because he would have been arrested.
