Children have minds open to new learning, and a tablet is a perfect example of a soft learning opportunity, where mistakes are free and carry no long-term penalty. There was once a phrase "You've blotted your copy-book" - meaning a permanent mistake that can never be erased or forgotten. Fortunately, today's youngsters have no word for this, and need none. They learn faster and deeper as a result, since fear has ben removed from the equation.

Years ago, my mum brought my brother and I a Nintendo 64 for Christmas. What she didn't tell us until a year ago when my brother is in his late twenties and I'm in my early thirties, was that she had the thing for six months prior to Christmas Day, just so she could play Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Oh, I'm always doing this. I cannot count the number of times I've been acing Fallout 4 when I hear that key in the front door and I've done absolutely nothing. So, I have to hurriedly turn the console off and try to look busy. Never works.
