May 1946, Albert Einstein Defied The Prevailing Racial Climate At The Time To Visit And Lecture At Lincoln University In Pennsylvania, The First Degree-Granting Black College In The Us
He understood the power of prejudice and how absolutely absurd it is.
He also treated his wives as indentured servants

Load More Replies...Many of the pictures on this are likely the work of a photojournalist. In a nutshell, photojournalism involves using images to convey a story. The practice began during the American Civil War in the 1860s when photographs accompanied news reports.
But photojournalism didn’t enter its golden age until the 1920s. Around this time, smaller cameras began entering the scene after being invented in Germany in 1925.
In 1963, Richard Avedon Took A Picture Of A Man Named William Casby. William Casby, Born In 1857, Was 106 Years Old At The Time. In His Hands, He Was Holding His Great-Great-Granddaughter, Cherri Stamps-Mccray

Eric Idle And George Harrison On The Set Of 'The Life Of Brian' - Tunisia, 1978. The Film Had It's Funding Pulled Just Before Filming So The Ex-Beatle Paid For It, Calling It "The Most Expensive Cinema Ticket Ever Issued"
And we love George Harrison even more because of this. Truly miss that man.
George used his house (known as Friar Park) as collateral to secure funding for that movie.
He could have been part of the troupe! They loved him and he loved them.
What sets a photojournalist apart from a photographer is their code of ethics. Images must convey the truth and tell all sides of the story, regardless of how unpleasant or graphic they can get.
Likewise, time is of the essence. Photojournalists must feature subjects currently talked about in the world or among a group of people.

Robin Williams And His Old Roommate From The Julliard School, Christopher Reeve. Photographed Circa 1977
Our world is a lot less bright with these two gone from it. Rest in peace "for in that sleep of death, what dreams may come".
Photography, on the other hand, is a form of self-expression. A photographer’s primary goal is to showcase the human condition in its rawest form, as seen in many of the pictures on this list.
That raises the question, is photography an art form? According to Adobe Research Principal Scientist Aaron Hertzmann, there have been debates about it. As he explains in an article for Medium, artists like painters initially saw photography as a “threat to ‘real art.’”
Mary Vincent Photographed In 1978. 15yo Mary Survived Being Assaulted, Having Her Arms Cut Off With An Axe By Her Attacker, Being Thrown Down A 30 Ft Cliff And Left For Dead. She Packed The Stumps With Mud And Climbed Back Up, Walked 3 Miles Naked In Search Of Help. I've Linked To Her Story Below
Assailant sentenced to 14 years, served 8, then murdered a mother of three.
I first heard about her in Bill Bryson's book The Lost Continent. She is now an artist.
She's a bad a*s! She had the presence of mind to clot the ends of her arms in mud to try and stop from bleeding out and had the perseverance to crawl up that steep embankment all night long, broken bones and all...it took her hours. The first car she flagged down drove past her but the second car was a newlywed couple who wrapped her up and drove her to the hospital.

Dorothy Counts - The First Black Girl To Attend An All White School In The United States - Being Teased And Taunted By Her White Male Peers At Charlotte’s Harry Harding High School, 1957
In 2006, she received an email from a man named William “Woody” Cooper. He had admitted to being one of the boys in the famous picture and wanted to apologize. They met up for lunch where Cooper asked her to forgive him and she responded by saying, "I forgave you a long time ago, this is opportunity to do something for our children and grandchildren."
What a bunch of losers among a strong woman with self respect and dignity. I hope she did well in life and lived a long and happy life.
Oh Lordy, this is sick. Teenage boys are cruel, period...and allowing them to do it to her? Sick.
Eventually, artists like the great Vincent Van Gogh learned to accept photography as a supplement to art. However, they believe an artist can capture something a camera cannot.
“Van Gogh and many other artists of their generation viewed realism as the job of photography,” Hertzmann wrote. “And the goal of the real artist was to find a way to go beyond realism—to do something that cameras could not do.”
A Mother And Daughter Hamming It Up For The Camera, Ca 1900
I'm always a little suspect at pictures like this, not to throw water on it but at our county fair theres a booth that you can dress up in period attire and they will photograph you and make the picture look old. I have a picture of my daughter and her friend dressed like old west bar maids that looks pretty convincing
Her hairstyle matches the period clothing. Even movies get that wrong a lot.

Nobody could ever be as cool as Paul Newman. Maybe Mrs Newman (Joanne Woodward) She helped him through his battle with PTSD after WWII. Newman was the turret gunner on a TBF Avenger bomber. His pilot was invalided out of duty with an ailment and so the plane could not join the squadron for the battle of Okinawa. The carrier was attacked by kamikazes and all of the rest of the squadron died in the attack. Joanne helped him get over his PTSD and survivor's guilt. Nobody was as hoo; as Paul and Joanne.

Yes yes, sad about the seneca village - but seriously, that street-design is MADNESS. The wind will be rushing through those long-ar se streets and it looks really terrible, too. Wow. It's not as visible with the higher buildings nowadays, but it's clear even back then, the city-designers were all pro-cars and not pro-sense.
A few notes. Seneca Village was a small hamlet, about 50 buildings, housing 1500 people. About 40% of the inhabitants were whites from Irish descent, not blacks. The city was in a hurry to get the park started, and paid the landowners (about half the population) what was technically above market rate for the lands and buildings, but received backlash from people who argued the rate should have been higher since the land was going to appreciate even more with the city growth. The issues were with the other half, the renters -that fought to stay in their homes despite those were sold to the city-; with people using the fields illegally for animal grazing; and with a few holdouts that went on to fight the purchase and renounced the buyout until it was mandated by a tribunal at worse conditions.

Lesbian Couple At Le Monocle, Paris, 1932
Time for me to p**s off quite a lot of folks. Let's see just how many downvotes this gets, shall we? The person on the right is Violette Morris. Violette was a renowned race car driver in France, who won two gold and one silver medal at the Women's World Games in 1921–1922. She was invited to the 1936 Summer Olympics by Adolf Hitler as one of his honored guests. During the war, she actively worked with the Nazis, performing both collaborative work with them, and as a spy. She became known as the "Hyena of the Gestapo", before she was killed by the French Resistance who gunned her down as she drove. Morris's body, riddled with bullets, was taken to a morgue, where it remained unclaimed for months. She was buried in an unmarked communal grave.
Interesting backstory. Also interesting is your assumption that you'd get downvotes for providing it.
