Age is just a number, they say. Yet the vast majority of humanity is hooked on anti-aging skincare, anti-aging lifestyles, anti-aging everything. In fact, a survey has previously shown that a whopping 87% have a fear of getting old, also known as FOGO. Feeling anxious about wearing out before the warranty is something not entirely new to most people, but for many, the reservations revolve more around the outside rather than the inside.
But what if we told you that some seniors go way up the cool-ometer, leaving us, the self-obsessed millennials, far behind? You gotta see it to believe it, so ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Bored Panda’s compilation of the coolest elders.
From a smashing sense of humor to incredible skills, enviable physical shape, and the most youthful mindset, there’s a lot to learn from these badasses who may not have turned back time, but figured out how to get the most out of it. Psst! Our previous post with 90 Grandmas Who Are More Badass Than You awaits right here.

A Grandpa Got A Cochlea Implant Tattoo To Become Like His Grandson
Bored Panda contacted Susan Petang, a certified life coach teaching adults and teens, to find out what she had to say about fear of growing old and how not to let your age define you. Susan runs “Quiet Zone Coaching” where she teaches essential life skills and coping tools people need when stress is overwhelming and life is hard.
“I think we ALL think about growing old, don't we?” she continued: “Whether it's because an elderly relative reminds us; we get sick, weak and then worry we'll never get better; or we swear we're never going to be like our parents when we get to be that age, thoughts of getting older and curiosity about what it will be like must cross everybody's mind at some point.”

According to Susan, not allowing society to define our personality is something that isn't related to age. “If we develop a healthy self-confidence and self-esteem, we won't feel the need to conform to society's definition of what's acceptable for someone of [X] age—no matter what that age is.”
Moreover, the life coach argues that “as long as what we're doing doesn't hurt us or someone else, doesn't conflict with our values, and we're willing to accept whatever consequences come from that action, go for it! If others don't like it... Well, too bad.”

My Grandmother On Her 100th Birthday
Susan also reminds everyone that people are going to think what they want to think, regardless of what we say or do, “might as well enjoy the ride and enjoy life,” she added.
When asked how age does change our personalities, Susan said that “as we get older, our perspective changes, our value system can shift, and we become wiser from all the experience we've racked up. Our personality may seem to change.”

“From my own perspective, things that I used to think were important aren't so much. I've grown to understand that intensity of opinion isn't going to convince anyone of anything, and why would I want to try, anyway? So, others may see that as a change in personality, but I just see a more laid-back and accepting (maybe even wiser?) version of myself.”

I Just Found Out That My Grandmother Has Spent Her Time During Covid Hitting The Weights, She Turns 85 Next Week
On the other hand, some of us don't realize that we're getting older, argues the life coach. “There's an old joke that says, 'Life is like a roll of toilet paper; the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes.' Time flies. We don't realize that we're not 35, or 40, or 45 anymore. Those of us who don't realize how 'old' we've become still have the same attitude we did many years ago—we just haven't figured out that those years have passed.”
Susan also said that it often happens that we think we can still do the things we used to do. “Some of us (like the people in these photos) have refused to let their age hold them back from being who they want to be—so they've taken steps to physically stay in shape,” she concluded.

RIP and blessings toward her, people like her are truly inspiring. 🧡
Load More Replies...Getting old ain't for sissy pants and ya better bring your sense of humor. Just sayin'. =)
Load More Replies...I'm gonna do some whining: Technically you can be a grandparent before 30, so only being a grand parent does not make you elderly. A few of the people above really don't seem particularly old - not old enough that any of their behaviour is awe inspiring. (Except for doing that horisontal body at a pole thing - but that's impressive at any age.) Also, why do people seem to think that elderly people lose their sense of humour as they grow older? They're still people. On the same note, you can be elderly and rude, too. Not sure why flipping the finger is considered so very cool just because you passed 60 or 70? Especially when it's all done just to pose for the camera, anyway. That all said, some of the above posts were truly cool.
Oh, I'll be swearing and flipping fingers when old. I hope people see this kind of articles and realize you don't have to change because of 'age'. You are who you are, have fun with it. Disclaimer- don't do criminal things lol
Load More Replies...Spent some time with my friend's grandma the other day. She was shrooming HARD. Spent the entire night yelling at a "leprechaun".
I feel like marrying an old man would be my best choice in life, as long as he has money. I get to be with that old person for the rest of his life, soaking up wisdom and bad jokes until he starts to die, then I can spend his last days with him and be able to tell people about the wonderful person I got to have in my life! When he dies I get the money and can travel, assuming I found a well-paying job during my relationship with the dear, dead fart. I continue to educate myself of the world and eventually marry again and live out the last years of my life in a beautiful country home, or in a large house near a city. Well.. unless I stay a widow and move to Italy.
A bit of advice from a 78 year ago. Every day is a gift. Make the most of it.
I turned 50 last week. I just said the second half of my life will be epic. I will repeat this statement at any age.
I'm smiling so big right now! Fantastic list of some pretty amazing folks.
These are so sweet! I really miss my grandma so much! She was a lovely lady. God bless her soul!
These people are awesome! I need to learn from this and be me through and through.
the one w/the grandpa eating his first burger. my grandmother was in her late 60s when she had her first. she was a very conservative disciplinarian with herself as well as her kids w/expectations of the same for her grandkids. example: she promised to pay for lessons for any instrument i wanted to learn. i love the cello. her: nope, pick another. why? because you can't sit like a lady and play that instrument.
You want to die young, do you? I know fearing old age is very common, but I'd much prefer to be happy that I'm still here. I will celebrate 40 with gusto if I get to celebrate it at all, and the same with 50, and 60, and 70...
