It feels good to do good, so people find numerous ways to help others and spread kindness. Some, though, turn to somewhat unconventional ways to accomplish their good deeds, which results in what can only be called ‘Chaotic Good’.
Unsurprisingly, there’s an entire community dedicated to such instances, which has amassed over 200k members already. I did a stint teaching in a girl’s school in rural Cambodia. Most of them had been rescued from trafficking, the oldest was fifteen. I asked the principal what would happen if some local men tried to break into the school and hurt the girls (it was on the forest boundary with little fencing). She replied, “oh, then we k*ll them with clubs”. I may be a pacifist, but her answer seemed fair under the circumstances.

My wife and I watched a brilliant but disturbing documentary about so called "honour killings" called A Girl In The River. It was in Pakistan but the same happens elsewhere. Whilst men like that exist, young girls and women will never be safe. After watching we both had tears of rage at the callous disregard a lot of men in these countries have for the female population.

Being a woman in Patriarchal countries like India, Pakistan, the Middle East is generally horrifying. Women uniting to take a stand is the beginning of change! Sad that this group has to exist but addressing an age old issue. The inequity of woman and the statistics of abuse that woman face globally needs to end, along with any ‘ism’ or phobia, or form of discrimination, maltreatment.

Created 15 years ago, the subreddit is dedicated to examples of chaotic good actions, which have attracted over 217k members already. The instances cover everything from fighting hate groups in the most inventive ways possible to supporting others through tough times, reviving people’s faith in humanity one post at a time.
Such somewhat altruistic behavior encourages people to believe in the kindness of others; and the majority of them do. A survey of adults in the US revealed that as many as 83% of them believe that humans are inherently good. Another one reported that the number was as high as 81%, adding that nearly half of the surveyed, though, consider themselves “better” than everyone else they know.

There is also a company out there that is working on '3D printing' rhino horns. They are made out of the same stuff, but ridiculously cheap. The idea is to flood the market with fakes that are completely indistinguishable from natural ones that are extremely low cost. It would tank the prices and make poaching no longer profitable. Because no amount of deterrents will stop someone, but if there is no money in it the business will stop.

We had two gigantic security guys come in once with a puppy that sadly had to be put down as he was too small for the major corrective surgery after he was abused. (Pup's jaw was practically pulverized) It was surreal. Two gorillas the size of a house cradling this tinie tiny puppy. They reassured us that they have already worked out who the perpetrator was and have upgraded their workout routine. Sadly this was at a time when we still didn't have much in ways of anti animal cruelty legislation so this was pretty much the only way things could be handled. I ran into the guys some time later, they just gave me a thumbs up and a grin. I couldn't find it in me to feel sorry for whoever they've subjected to their new "workout routine"...

The government needs to get out of the marriage business. All legal documentation should be 'domestic partnership' The above situation, a gay couple, a mutli race couples, college roomates, a parent and and adult child living at home, etc... ALL could have the benefits of tax breaks, insurance, decision making.

Especially since it doesn't just make life hell for homeless people (which on itself would be bad enough, don't get me wrong) those things also make the world a horrible place for the elderly who can't sit down and rest, for people in general who also have much less room to sit and rest. Just look at the hostile architecture in train stations etc. It's horrible. If your train gets delayed you have barely any place to rest anymore. It's so cruel for everyone. But especially those in need. The homeless, the elderly, people with small children or people with health issues. They're all more and more cut away from participating in society.

I was renting an aparatment at the attic of an old building and holmless people slept, pissed and defecated there all the time. I wanted to treat myself (yes, I was in a situation where McDonald was a treat). Woman aproached me and asked if I can buy something for her because she is really hungry. And I wasn't that hungry, I had some things to eat at home. So with my last "free" money and coupon I bought something for her. There was no "thank you". There was "that's it?

It seems to me this particular effort doesn't really do much to help them other than providing a somewhat less uncomfortable place to sleep. Luckily, people seemingly don’t grow out of feeling happy about doing good when they exit the toddler years. Based on Michael Steger’s—a psychologist at the University of Louisville in Kentucky—findings, good deeds (even if somewhat chaotic, in my opinion) make people happy.
He carried out a study assessing people’s involvement in pleasure-seeking behavior, versus meaningful activities, such as helping others or listening to people’s problems. Steger learned that the extent to which people participated in meaningful activities was positively linked to their level of happiness; pleasure-seeking behavior, on the other hand, didn’t seem to reap similar rewards.

As a former smoker, I used to chuck my butts wherever. For some reason, I saw that as ok even though I've always seen littering as absolutely disgusting. The hypocrisy is strong with addiction. Used to know a guy who had a bunch of letter-sized PVC stickers made. They were white on the outside and the print was reversed (on the adhesive side) with written something like "You parked like a dork"; he put those on the windshield in front of the drivers seat. For maximum evil, the stickers had tiny cuts running through the surface, so if you tried to remove the sticker it would keep breaking apart.

For those wondering about accidents, they specifically lowered the amount of time for a yellow light by 2 seconds compared to other places in the city. This causes people to think they have time going through a yellow when they really don't. This, more people are spotted by the camera. It can cause accidents because cars are more likely to break hard for shorter yellow lights and it can cause accidents from other lanes because the light changes to quickly without giving enough time for drivers to clear the road before another set goes.

Theoretically some intersections should have longer yellows, I've seen up to 7 or 8 second yellows on a couple of the really big intersections just to let people clear them. But there really should be a minimum of 5 seconds on every intersection. Dropping it to three is really short.

In the UK there are cameras mounted on the motorways, they also have signs to adjust the speed limit. So far not one person has come back with an answer to how long between the new speed limit appearing and the camera being active at the new speed limit, imagine doing 70 and suddenly a few meters in front of you the sign goes to 40.

I went on a speed awareness course. I was done doing 33mph downhill in a 30mph zone using cruise control. I was mortified. Anyway, I swear the trainer said we had 160 yards in that scenario as hard braking on a fast road just as the limit changes would be very dangerous. The M40 has dinky warning signs and they are notorious for flashing ultra low speeds on the northbound carriageway past junction 11 for miles for no apparent reason. I just motor at 70 (if safe) and ignore them until it becomes apparent that there is a genuine reason for slowing down.

The part I don't understand, maybe because the stoplights work different here: Why is a red light camera, activated during the yellow light phase, responsible for the deaths of people? They are the same in the US. The cause of the accidents was from the timing of the yellow lights where cameras were installed, not necessarily the activation of the camera. Where they had put cameras (poorer areas, mind), the timing of the yellow light was 3 seconds, versus the 5 seconds where there were no cameras. People thought they had time to get through the yellow light. Since they changed quicker than others, people brake hard causing rear-end collisions, or run the yellow light and it's changing to green for drivers going a different direction. I hope this helps clear it up, my apologies for the long reply!

Similar news in London when masked heroes painted some Ultra Low Emission Zone cameras. so license plates could not be captured for charging cash-strapped car drivers who can only afford motors over 17 years. £12.50 to drive around London. And that's on top of the £15-per day 'congestion charge' for central London, plus extra fees now for driving down an important tunnel. It's about time bonehead politicians stopped picking people's pockets and cleaned up the air by regulating someone else.

My first full time job, a coworker and I created a Society of Evil and Hateful People - with cards. Back story, we frequently had homeless people stopping by the store. Most were asking for ice for their water bottle, or a glass of water - no problem, here you go. We let the polite ones hang around the store for a it to cool down (hot area), and read. There was a mother and son duo that came in regularly, but eventually we asked them to stop as the mother was an absolute b***h to everyone. We watched them for a while to make sure it wasn’t a case of them being attacked/confronted - nope, she just went off in anyone who walked near them. I felt bad for their situation as it was clear that the son had some kind of severe disability, but we couldn’t let it go on. She dubbed us the evil and hateful people, and it kind of took off when it came to the rude customers. It was my side ‘society’ to the fake religion I made up for the nutcases constantly trying to “save me”.

It is likely the park was created years ago, if not decades, and now the city either doesn't want to maintain it or feels it is a place for anti-social behaviour. It's literally a rare place for teens to hang out and encourages physical activity, but maintaining it and the risk of being culpable if someone is hurt costs money and there's a recession everywhere...

Skateparks here are overall pretty well kept, are a social place to hang out and skate. And the only one culpable if someone gets hurt is the skater getting hurt.. you're responsible for yourself if you get hurt. Family insurance will fix it most of the time 🤷🏻♀️ but we don't live in a country where people can sue each other for everything and anything so that might make a difference ☺️

These things do happen. When I was in 11th or 12th grade a kid in my class made fun of our English teacher's figure (she'd just gotten back from maternity leave) and the "bad kid" took offense to that, pinned the dude against a wall and punched a hole in said wall right next to the guy's head. The classrooms were those temporary classrooms made of whatever asbestos substitute they were using back then, so not as impressive as it sounds, but kids do absolutely stand up for their favourite teachers.

Years ago, I lived on a cul-de-sac that lost and/or reckless drivers would speed on. We asked the town for a speed limit sign, but we knew after awhile it was our responsibility. We set up our own sign at the top of the street and a few barricades we all agreed upon. The town never did respond, but traffic was pleasantly slow.

The only problem with this is they're not traffic planners. While the idea itself is amusing and may actually do good, it could also be an accident risk. There are rules about how close to corners (ie: how much visibility is needed) a crosswalk can be. Put it in the wrong place and people don't have time to brake and *boom* car hits car, or worse car hits pedestrian.

After reading all the comments below I am stupified. The idea of tracking a woman's periods to see if she may or may not have had a termination and then prosecute her for it is just beyond comprehension. It's fair to say that we can always rely on the USA to give us all sorts of extremes but this is abhorrent and shameful to say the least. I personally don’t agree with these kind of statements, not to be confused with harsh, brutal police acts and racism, that is for sure not okay, but when they are slightly off-parked or have a taillight out, for these they are just trying to do their jobs, they probably don’t have time if a criminal has rammed the back end for example to go and get it all fixed. If they are being truly unlawful and discriminatory and unfair, then I don’t believe this is a value of time, they’ve spent a few minutes now just having to take that, when I can guarantee they are just given the squad car by a superior and don’t have management calls like this. I never understood the gifted program in the US and think that is it being phased out of my schools. I think don't we really had an equivalent in the U.K. It can be extremely exclusive. I always thought it was unfair that some of my peers didn't receive the same resources and teaching as the kids that were deemed "normal." I just took accelerated classes

I think they only allowed the OP to work there for as long as she needed to put those systems in and have them running properly. Mmm, not too sure about this one. I am all for planting more trees, but the root system can really mess up structural parts of buildings - and by that time the trees are fully mature and very hard (and sometimes illegal) to remove. My parents’ house got damaged by an oak tree that had just naturally grown, and it was such an expensive thing to fix.

Listen, I'm all for trees, in the right locations. This, I don't support. I live in a hurricane state and had to take down two trees that were right up against my house. These weren't small trees either. I don't know what the person was thinking when they planted these. I also had to get part of my sewer line replaced because of one of these said trees. The roots got in and cracked it. Imagine every other month sewer is backing up into the shower, while you're taking a shower. Not all trees go away without a fight so, then you have to get the trunk ground down, which leaves a mess. So, NO, on this one.

Since I can safely assume this is the US, the mirror law states you have to have the passenger side view mirror, no exceptions. The you have to have EITHER the drivers side view mirror OR the rear view mirror. Liked most of these - not the ones that advocate violence. Good does not resort to violence except when absolutely necessary. Good people try peaceful, nonviolent solutions FIRST. On the other hand, some people won't respond to kindness and olive branches. Sometimes you have no choice but to open a can of whoop-a$s.

All these people like 'oh no you can't react negatively to a horrible thing' like bro at this point the only thing that's gonna fix America specifically but the world in general is full on anarchy. Being peaceful and nice will never change anything, you need to actually f**k s**t up and make people notice
