“I’m The Queen Of The Universe”: 35 Celebrities Who Were Deeply Out Of Touch
Nothing says "I understand the common person" quite like a celebrity worth millions (or even billions) explaining why poor people just need to work harder. Where once these sorts of unhinged thoughts would never see the light of day, social media has given us all easy access to what famous people actually think, and, as it turns out, it’s sometimes just detached from reality.
So, we’ve gathered some of the most out-of-touch things celebrities have ever said. Get comfortable as you scroll through, upvote the most tone-deaf examples you see and be sure to share your own thoughts in the comments down below.

Ariana Grande's Fans Called Her Out Over A Since-Deleted Instagram Post, Which She Said:
"When you're cute but you're also the hardest working 23-year-old human being on earth."
On social media, fans pointed out that, around the world, there are other 23-year-olds who are "making 60 cents a day trying to provide for their families" or "working four jobs to stay in their tiny apartments."
"I'm so cute and special." That's not up to you to announce. Let other people praise you, if you're praiseworthy. We aren't built to pat ourselves on the back or kick our own behind.
she's a celeb - - that's kinda the job description "Must think you are the cutest and greatest person ever since society began."

I'm going the old tried and true " She wouldn't know a hard day of work if it bit her on the a*s"
Ooh, the entitlement is strong in this one. Recently been watching YouTube videos on people in the slums of the Philippines who earn, after expenses, $6 per week from sorting and separating (somewhat) edible food waste from other rubbish (pag-pag; often chicken bones with scraps on them, but can also be other food scraps) that are recooked and remade into new dishes. (Edit: There's a pag-pag seller that makes good quality (as in she washes the meat several times to minimise the amount of germs etc) pag-pag and profits around 85 US cents after expenses). I'd like to see AG go and eat someone else's food scraps. Or, y'know, at least lick them. 🙄
She used to dress like a 5 yr old going to a birthday party, and now she's a hideously ugly advertisement for the dangers of eating disorders.
Sondos Al-Qattan Complained About New Laws In Kuwait
"For people who want to go get a Filipino domestic worker, what are these ridiculous work contracts you've got to sign? But how can you have a servant in your house who gets to keep their passport with them? Where are we living? If they ran away and went back to their country, who'll refund me? Even worse is that they get a day off every single week! What's left?"
Wow! That can't be true. Crazy that an actual human being would like one day off! They are not robots or your personal slave you b!tch!
Seriously. Did I just read that. Or is it time to put the tequila down
According to a 2022 U.N. report, there are more people living in conditions of slavery than at any other time in human history. A conservative figure puts it at 50 million.
Considering many such nurses and servants etc, died or are living a horrible life, this statement is jarring.. kuwait is doing good by bringing the new laws.
Many of the celebrity quotes on this list are out of touch, but they are mostly ridiculous or self-centered. This one, however, is truly cruel. It is frightening and deeply disturbing.
Willow Smith Says Her Success And Fame Are Entirely Her Own, And Not Because Of Her Famous Parents
She claims critics who label her a “nepo baby,” saying that her success stems solely from her famous parents, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have no idea how hard she worked to be where she is today.
Remind me again what she has achieved to be successful? A genuine question as I have no idea 🤷
Second this. If the comment hadn't referenced her parents I'd have had no idea who she was.

The phenomenon of celebrities making jaw-droppingly tone-deaf statements isn't just occasional bad luck with microphones, it's a predictable consequence of how fame and wealth fundamentally rewire someone's brain and social reality. When you can afford to solve most of life's problems by throwing money at them, it becomes genuinely difficult to understand why everyone else doesn't just do the same.
Research shows that fame leads to "wealth, access, temptations, and concerns about family impact," while creating psychological issues including "character-splitting, mistrust, isolation, and an unwillingness to give up fame." This psychological transformation helps explain why celebrities often struggle to relate to everyday concerns like, say, whether to buy name-brand cereal or generic.
Victoria Beckham: "We're Very Working, Working Class"
David Beckham then asked, "What car did your dad drive you to school in?
Victoria Beckham replied, "Okay. In the 80s my dad had a Rolls-Royce."
Both Victoria and David are from working class families. Her Dad worked hard to provide for his family and he bought himself a car, a second hand roller. Aren't working class people allowed nice things?
In the UK it's still generally the case that money is not seen as the same thing as class. Many working people, however successful they may have become, are proud of their working-class roots and absolutely do not see the fact of having lots of money as a change to that. Class mobility still takes at least a couple of generations.
“In the UK it's still generally the case that money is not seen as the same thing as class”: Uh, Ace? It’s the same way in the US. And Canada. And Mexico. And Germany, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, and Belgium, and those are just the places I’ve been. My suspicion is that it’s likely the same in most (if not all) developed nations, and while I can’t think how to google it to prove it, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same *everywhere*.

Even admitting he bought it new (for 49k GBP, top price for the model) it would be equivalent nowadays to buying a decked out Range Rover, or an entry level Lamborghini, something that is very attainable for a successful business owner.
EVERYONE is working class. There are varying scales of income, of course, but the only real exceptions are heirs and heiresses who can choose whether or not they're interested in having a career.

When your daily interactions consist of people whose paychecks depend on telling you how brilliant your breakfast choices are, it's easy to assume you're equally brilliant about everything else, including poverty and minimum wage work.
Take Kim Kardashian, the aforementioned billionaire, who has mastered the art of saying exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time. In 2022, she told women in business: "Get your a** up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days." This pearl of wisdom came from someone whose first job was organizing Paris Hilton's closet.

Natalie Portman Highlighted The Contrast In How The Wealthy And Famous Experience Recessions By Describing The Economic Downturn As An "Exciting Time"
"I think it's kind of an exciting time. I mean, everyone is cutting back. It's happening in every industry — including our own. All of a sudden, people are doing jobs that they hate, and they're not making as much money as they thought they would, or they've lost their jobs entirely. I've started to see people looking more toward their own passions and what really excites them."
Oh, how exciting; watching the 'little people' scrounging around for money to feed themselves and keep a roof over their heads. What a rotten thing to say.
Yeah how exciting to see the flower shop next to my home survive the first Covid lock down only to permanently lock down the store after the second lock down as they did not financially survive... How exciting for that elderly couple.

Kim Kardashian Claimed Growing Up In A Well-Off Family Made Things "Harder" For Her And Her Siblings
"I just think that it's actually probably harder we did grow up with this privileged life, but knowing that at a certain age we're gonna be cut off and we can't ask our parents for anything. Already having that lifestyle growing up, we wanna maintain that. So it's probably even harder for us, because a lot of people are doing nothing. And we were taught at a very young age that we're gonna have to work, and we're gonna have to fend for ourselves - and whatever lifestyle we want, we have to make that on our own."
Can we please send the entire worthless family to Mars, permanently?
"A lot of people are doing nothing" like who? I know a homeless guy that has 3 jobs. Actually he only has 2 now because the other ran out of work, wake up Kim. She could've sustained a lifestyle for years just by selling the last few years worth of gifts and belongings after she turned 18.

Even veteran media personalities aren't immune to this disconnect. Larry King, during a 2020 interview, demonstrated just how far removed from ordinary life celebrity wealth can make someone when he rejected a guest's answers about simple pleasures, telling him, "Coffee and socks are not a luxury.” For most people, good coffee and comfortable socks absolutely are small luxuries, but when you can afford to have both delivered by helicopter if needed, your definition of luxury tends to shift dramatically upward.

I paid myself £5,000 a year, paid off my debts, and learned more from the whole thing than anything else. I wasn't ashamed, I just accepted it."
Hes likely talking about when he went bankrupt and had to move in with his parents in his 30s. Something like that.
There was a dance group of about 4/5 girls on Britain's got talent. One of the girls had a curvature of the spine and was going to have an operation and she wouldn't be able to dance after the operation. Simon Cowell actually paid for her to go to America to have a different operation so she could carry on dancing.

The structural causes of this reality disconnect are both predictable and self-reinforcing. Extreme wealth creates economic insulation from the financial stresses that drive most people's daily decisions. When money isn't a constraint, it becomes nearly impossible to understand how financial limitations shape others' choices and priorities. Celebrity wealth provides "access to healthcare" and protection "from illness," creating experiences fundamentally different from average citizens who have to choose between medicine and groceries. This extends beyond healthcare to education, legal services, and basic conveniences.

Load More Replies...The entertainment industry itself creates artificial social dynamics that make this worse. Fame creates "a perpetual need to keep their fame machine churning," which requires celebrities to constantly perform and maintain their image. When your professional environment consists of people celebrating your every utterance and rarely challenging your ideas, maintaining realistic self-assessment becomes nearly impossible. The combination of psychological changes from power, structural isolation from ordinary life, economic insulation from common concerns, and professional environments that reinforce these dynamics creates a perfect storm for losing touch with reality.

I'm like, 'Er, well, you know, for me to cure my panic attacks, it took months. I could have taken a pill, but I decided no. I'm going to wake up every morning, and I'm going to meditate and do breath work.' It took months... Everything starts with discipline."
She has a point, but I find it difficult to respect any advice from someone who has made a living out of the genetic lottery.
She does, but at the same time, she... kind of doesn't? I mean, if meditation and breath work did it for her, that's good for her. That won't work for a lot of people, and just sets about making them potentially feel like shit because she could do it but they can't. Mental health issues aren't generally something you can just will away (ol' mate above aside, apparently), and one cure does not fit all. (Edit: By "she" I mean the b***o being referred to in the post, not Miss Tinker. Just to clarify. 😊)

Our discipline is forged out of necessity because we have other people to take care of instead of the means you have to employ nannies, chefs, gardeners, maids, chauffeurs, personal assistants, stylists, manicurists, and hair & make-up artists at our disposal... that must take a lot of discipline!
Most people don't have the luxury of taking months off work to breathe and meditate. They're having panic attacks thinking about how they're going to feed their kids, pay their mortgage and keep up with their bills. Not all of us have nannies, chefs, gardeners, chauffeurs, maids, tutors and personal assistants to tend to our daily tasks. I do all of these things as well as work full-time, but maybe with a little more discipline?

On An Episode Of His Smartless Podcast With Will Arnett And Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman Mentioned That He Wished He Could Work As A Restaurant Server
"I've always secretly had a fantasy to be a waiter just so I could work each table to figure out what they need me to be to get the best tip. Like separate audiences, you know?" After Hayes brought up tip pooling — when restaurant workers combine their tips then divide them up between workers rather than each server keeping the tips they specifically got — Bateman asked, "Is that really the way it works?"
He's not completely wrong, in many countries, hospitality workers keep their own tips without having to pool them.

Yes, it is acting, but as a transgender person, if you're casting for a trans character, it is better to use a person who has lived that experience and who can more accurately portray that character. Plus it gives trans actors a role to play, because, let's be honest, a transgender actor is much less likely to be cast in a cisgender role. Yes, it is just "acting", but it's more nuanced than that.

There are some great research papers out there about the widespread phenomenon whereby successful people tend to minimise the role of luck and privilege in their lives and attribute it instead to innate personal qualities such as capacity, tenacity, and work ethic. Heck, some would even credit an imaginary friend who lives in the sky before they'd admit that perhaps they started closer to the front of the pack than others.
