It sometimes feels like just shutting off all sources of news and information might be more comfortable, in the same way that removing the batteries from a beeping fire alarm might seem like an easier solution. So it can be helpful to look at some reminders of what is going on around you from other regular people.
We’ve gathered some painfully relatable posts about politics from the last few weeks for those who might need a reminder about everything that is going on. So get comfortable as you scroll through, upvote your favorites and be sure to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

But, but ... "job creators". Sure, they create jobs, but what they actually use the employees for is to earn money.
Civil society, the complex of organizations, communities, and informal networks that fall between the government and citizens, is essential to a functioning democracy, even when, from the outside, it can look like a bickering mob. It's where regular people converse with one another, exchange ideas, and, at least in theory, share their unfiltered thoughts on power.
Social media has revolutionized the way that civil society works over the past few years. Far from being a distraction or a place for viral dance crazes, platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok have turned into potential tools of democratic conversation. They broadcast ideas, accelerate the dissemination of information, and provide space for civic engagement once the province of institutions and elites.
One key contribution of social media to democracy is access. For hundreds of years, public discussion occurred in newspapers, academic journals, or town halls, occasionally places where people were not all invited. Social media equalized the platform, allowing anyone to potentially reach millions of folks with their message.
Saw an interview with a lady who voted for Trump the other day, and her reasoning for ovoting for him was she thought she was voting for 'family values'. Her entire family was on government support for being disabled, which was now being cut severly, putting them all in huge financial distress. I wouldn't wish that on someone, but hearing her say 'family values', which I got the impression just meant no same-s*x marriage or transsexual healthcare and such, made me have a hard time feeling sorry for her.
A single tweet or series of clips can start a conversation that cuts across borders and demographics, enabling ordinary people to set agendas, spur reform, and educate the world about injustice. Of course, in the age of AI and predatory algorithms, civil society has begun to just frequently turn into smaller and smaller bubbles, but the key components for communication are still there. People often feel more comfortable communicating through the medium of the internet, which can, at times, help foster understanding and curiosity.
And they all collectively decided to fire the people in charge of aviation safety 😊 because they’re making America great again or something
So sad :( (@Carman Davis, this is incredibly easy information to find online. You can look it up yourself, no one is forcing you to stay ignorant.)
Hashtags such as #BlackLivesMatter or #MeToo were not created in newsrooms, they developed out of groundswell demands for reform and awareness. Social media sometimes also promotes accountability. Institutions and government officials are now being watched in real time. When policy decisions are being made, people can react instantaneously, not just with opinions, but with facts, stories, and evidence that enhance the public debate. This openness acts to hold decision-makers accountable and encourages a responsive political culture.
I'm sorry but he should have left her up there. She comes across as incredibly vacuous.
Nobody makes that much money by following the law or even morals
Also, social media enables coalitions. Those who once felt isolated by their experiences or beliefs are now able to connect with like-minded others across geography and social boundaries. These interest communities are the foundation for off-line activism, organizing protests, raising funds for causes, or developing advocacy groups that influence legislation and public policy.
Some jerk's new gold plane. Oh, sorry - it's a "gift." (*cough!* bribe.)
You handed us, our kids, our country, and our natural resources over to a f*****t dictator. Our generation (along with those of both my kids probably) will never forgive you.
Yet even so, the good for democracy that social media brings is not without qualification: echo chambers, activist performance, and disinformation all pose real dangers. But none of these undermine its potential as a democratic tool, instead, they highlight the importance of digital literacy, thoughtful platform design, and a culture of civil discourse. Social media, when used well, does not just embody civil society, it makes it more resilient when the channels sharing information are independent. Of course, there is no denying that for every good tweet or post, there are a lot of seriously dumb ones, so always check your sources.
In a world where traditional civic engagement sometimes seems inaccessible or beside the point, social media is the reminder that democracy is more than voting every few years. It's about conversation, critique, and community, and in that sense, each share, post, or comment can be a gesture of democratic engagement.
Imagine telling people who are trying to stand up for the country they believe in to just “move if you don’t like it” when they point out issues that need solving 😂
"Hope they aren't teaching that CRT in school"..said the old guy to me, a school custodian. "Did you know an entire community in Oklahoma, one in Fla, and others were wiped out for doing what they were urged to do? That is.. grow their own? They became too successful and were killed and burned out of their houses?".."No".."Don't you thinks kids SHOULD learn about that to prevent future events like that?".."yeah, probably"..."Congratulations, you're now woke" (Chuckle)
History shows it too 😂 check out which party was in power during the last handful of recessions and depressions
Not even reading Jerzy’s comments anymore, just downvoting because I already know they’re all trash lmao
The trolls: waaah waaah waaah generic MAGA bs, Biden this Biden that 😴 😴 😴 they’re all the same, they all sound the same lmao
I heard a MAGA saying the other day that he thought they SHOULD deport native Americans “somewhere,” because white people have “rightfully” conquered America, just like the Romans (or something like that), and it belongs to white people now. I was like “wait I thought you said immigrants have invaded and taken over your country? So by your logic, isn’t it their country now?” He sat there gaping like a stunned fish 😂😂
Because the U.S.A. is like a teenager who just discovered they’ve bulked up. The rest of the world is older, wiser, calmer. The U.S. government thinks that being powerful and aggressive equals a strong position, the rest of us are baffled that you’ve homeless and families who struggle to eat, veterans who need support and a health system that’s screwed but hey, you’ve got a shiny new missile / tank / aircraft. Your priorities are those of a teenage boy.
I, for one, would me more than happy to feed my family with offcuts from Republican senators and congressmen, the current cabinet, and evangelical megachurch pastors until the current financial chaos is ironed out. (but then, maybe they don't qualify as "my own".)
Was trans people existing affecting the egg prices or the gas prices? I can’t remember 🤷♀️/s
You do understand that these are not people posting on BP but BP showing a colated list from x?
Load More Replies...This is so sad. People are being charged an absolutely atrociously inflated tuition cost, and when they ask the government to step in and do something, because generations are being crippled by this for no reason - the government finally decides to help, and then Trump comes in to ruin it :( it’s so unfair to younger people. They shouldn’t be allowed to be charged so much for education.
I’m not religious but I can’t help but think that if Jesus were to “come back” tomorrow, he wouldn’t be hanging around with MAGA, that’s for sure.
Welp, ignorance is bliss. And the generation that MAGA largely consists of, is willfully ignorant of most of this, so...
On the upside, the current administration does seem to be making an effort to get us away from rampant capitalism and consumerism.
Bet if it was a Whitehawk they would've found a way to give it an award and promote it... /S
Some people seem to be missing the point of this post. Which is that,on aggregate, rent has gotten far beyond the standard of living. In my market, rent for a 1200 sq ft apartment has gone up from $800 to $1500 in less than 5 years. Wages have gone up about %10. That's extortion under the lie of "market forces." That's what this post is about. If your market is doing well, great! But the inability of people to see beyond their own nose is part of what has allowed the injustices of... well, everything forever.
Things Democrats didn't clap for: A child cancer survivor being used as a political token The pointless egotistical dreams of the richest man on earth to conquer space Criminalising people by inventing crimes so they can be arrested Helping working familes do what - how? Redefining oppositions as terrorists Destroying cartels, except the biggest cartel of billionairres Have i missed anything?
Well, I think we can see the level of thinking from the various points of view. Jerzy gave us some well thought out, articulate, logical political points. Backed up by figures and data. Delivered in a detailed, yet succinct manner. I'm not sure how we can come back from that. He has convinced me completely. I'm off to buy a red hat and steal from a poor person.
Lola July, Jerzy Janeczko, Carman Davis, and RU Sirius are the actual people who got us into this mess.
Now the real question is: what would convince them they are wrong? Do we have to wait for another һolocaust before every one of them denies ever having voted for this president?

Fvck Trump and fvck everybody who voted for him. And fvck the Republican party for getting us into this mess. All they had to do was pick a U.S. citizen older than 35. That’s millions of people to choose from. With all those other people, why in the blue fvck did they have to choose Trump?
Remember when Bush was the unpopular guy in the white house? Or Clinton? Or Bush?
Seems like such a quaint, innocent time looking back.
Load More Replies...I'm fatigued of political stuff. I'm actually quite tired of restricting my purchases to Canadian products only. There's barely any oranges in the produce section. It used to be a whole aisle. I still don't know why BC apples are so expensive, and other stuff that's made in Canada. Hearing parts of the national anthem play at the grocery store is getting nauseating to hear. Idk, I'm not used to nationalism being shoved down my throat and being told to keep Canada as the center point in my mind when shopping. I just want to be able to eat well again without having to spend over $50 for one or 2 bags of groceries.
It's worth standing up to bullies. Especially since innocent people all over the world are suffering at the hands of this madman. People are dying due to lack of services formerly provided by the USAID suddenly withdrawn without notice allowing alternatives to be put in place. Ironic that your main complaint was a lack of orange. the reverse is true.

I suppose we've just gotta wait until the next recession passes, and we are the new just-late enough worms.
We voted for Trump because his pro-life record was stringer than his opponent's. Life has to come first.
You voted bc of pro-life? You voted so women can be forced to have babies and carry a pregnancy that could k**l her or product of a r**e?? YOU think a bunch of cells are worth more than my entire body and life time on this planet? F**k you. I hope all the unwanted children in US are dropped on your doorstep and u have to take care of them alone.

It's only people who are so far right in their thinking they think that everyone else is a "leftist" who can't see the reality. It's not just "Dems" and "lefties" it's most of the world. If MAGA is not far right, please tell me a policy that is further right than the MAGA stance?
