Now, if you’re someone who wants to start crocheting or is simply curious about the art, let us tell you that it’s quite different from knitting. Despite the fact that both of them require the use of yarn and a stick to create fabric, they differ greatly from one another.

You know who used to knit and crochet in the old times? The woodsmen and shepherds. You know, the guys who had to fight off wolves, bears and lions to protect themselves, their fellows or their flock. They would knit or crochet, because they needed something to do at evening and they needed scarfs and sweaters. Oh, and sailors would, with rope ends.

Also sailors and fisherman. My brother taught more than a of his fellow sailors to crochet. When he got out of the Navy, never picked up a hook or any other hobby again. So sad.

People who knit have to use two long, pointed needles, one held in each hand, to make the stitches. However, the hook used in crocheting is very different from knitting needles. More specifically, individuals need to use one hook instead of two needles. While knitting, you need less yarn compared to crocheting.

Often, people crochet to make structured items like coasters, while knitting is popular for making clothing items like sweaters, cardigans, and shawls.

In the hospital where I work, we had to ask people to stop donating wool items as it harbours a high percentage of bacteria, especially when it’s been used in a handmade item. It’s a shame but we have to think of the patients health. Crocheted and knitted items using cotton are okay though.

In general, crafting as a hobby is good for our mental health. Psychologist Sahra O’Doherty told the Guardian, “Crafts can be a useful antidote to depression because they help pull us out of negative thought spirals and refocus us on things that give us a sense of achievement, which can combat feelings of worthlessness, helplessness or hopelessness.”

Crocheting is also a powerful tool for processing challenging emotions like grief. O’Doherty points out, “Allowing ourselves time to sit and process and not be distracted by things like our phones is absolutely important.” When we make a particular design, we have to keep repeating the stitches. The process of repetition helps to absorb some of our attention while still allowing us to think deeply about other things.

Additionally, the repetitive motions help to induce a state of mindfulness, which is similar to meditation. So if you’re making a coaster, it can be quite calming and relaxing. For individuals who have struggled with meditation in the past, crocheting might be an attractive alternative.

I think you mean patent* which I'm not entirely sure one can do, in this scenario. Since Lego has it's own patents and this is just one configuration, of nearly endless options, that could be created, I think it would just fall under the Lego umbrella for patents. 🤔

It's much easier than knitting, just have a go. Better if you can see someone demonstrating, but if you don't have a suitable Nana, then I'm sure there will be something on the internet. Also even simple items or patterns look impressive, so you will almost certainly have something good from the start.

Wrap fabric around the eyelets (double thickness). You can use a matching or complementary pattern, or if it's just scrap fabric you can wrap more yarn around that & secure it all really well.

    She speaks poniards
    Community Member

Also, you could line it with the same fabric (similar to the idea of making a second one, which would definitely work, but I'm too lazy! 😃)

I don't crochet either, I want to learn how, just hard to find the time, at this moment in my life. Anyway I think they could add some leather straps to it, but I still think one would need to reinforce the material at the connection points, to be able to withstand the added weight. Hopefully this helps.

Ot maybe just reinforce with matching seam binding. Sometimes this method is used on shoulder seams etc with knit garments so they don't stretch.

In my experience, every project has a recipient. It might take some time, but some day you will know: this is what I made it for. Either case, you should be peoid of it.

Still cute! But you might try taking some of the stuffing out and compressing it to be smaller and get the shape you want. You could even ball up some of the same yarn and stuff it with that or dark wool. Just a thought.

I also had a grandma who made amazing things. She made 2 dolls for me, once of which looked exactly like Cabbage Patch Kid, but with a soft head instead of plastic. And then she'd make custom clothes for the dolls as well. When my aunt got married and I was a flower girl my grandma made matching dresses for my cousin and I. She was such a talented woman, who unfortunately died way too young. :( I wish I had kept some of the things she made, but I'm sure she was happy that I loved and played with them.
