Schools differ from country to country, and there are some pretty interesting school systems in the world. In The Netherlands, for example, kids start school on their 4th birthday, no matter when the school year starts. Kids in China, in turn, learn on the principle of memorization.
And then there's the US. What most of us know about American schools probably comes from movies and TV. But what are schools in the US really like? Well, here we have a list of pics from many primary sources, the students themselves. They capture the true experience of the American school.

Florida Teacher Here. This Is Our School’s "Library" Now
Florida passed a law that said no books can be displayed in a school, until they've been reviewed and approved by an appointed team. If a teacher shows a book that has not been approved, they could be charged with a felony.
It really is unbelievable how tone deaf the the people who pass these laws are. Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 were not guidebooks. They were WARNINGS!
Load More Replies...Why cover them though? Just burn them! A certain Austrian artist did just that, and he is one of the major historical figures now. Aim for the stars, Florida!
Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if Florida was involved in WWIII
Load More Replies...Who decided that books belong in a school? Why, next thing you know, children will learn to read! The insanity must be stopped!
We can't have American children thinking for themselves now can we!
Load More Replies..."You can't take away our guns!!! THAT'S OUR FREEDOM!!!! Oh, but abortions and books in schools? GET RID OF 'EM!!!! FREEDOM IS ONLY FREEDOM WHEN I WANT IT TO BE!!!"
Load More Replies...I was in our town library the other day, they have a whole section of books that have been banned in other countries. With a little blub of what country they were banned in and why they were banned. Guess which country has the most banned books!
I read recently that China has given up on banning books. Apparently, the leadership thinks that there's no point any more. Admittedly, the Chinese Communist Party does totally control what books are allowed in schools, so maybe it's not a fair comparison.
Load More Replies...our school is nothing like this at all, we have a wonderful library and very nice librarians.
Load More Replies...My School Blocked A Website Because It Was Labeled As Educational
“Billy! You’d better not be looking up EDUCATION on those computers!”
Load More Replies...School I'm in gave all the kids iPads, made a big part of the curriculum research based, then blocked so many sites you are lucky to find anything and forget cross referencing. Teacher logins are not much better. Apparently the fault is from local council who failed to provide enough band width for a fraction of the users. They did however seriously limit photocopying because it would not be need if all the kids had iPads. (UK)
Public schools are for socio-political indoctrination, not for education.
During The Summer, My School Installed Metal Gates Over The Bathrooms To Keep Us From Going Between Classes
I worked at a school in the UK that would lock all of the toilets during lesson time. One of the girls I was working with got her period and I had to take her halfway across the school to find one. It's inhumane.
Load More Replies...Our school still maintains the same rule but teachers almost never enforce it and they certainly haven’t resorted to installing gates.
Load More Replies...Just pee on the gate. Faff off with this nonsense, how is this even allowed/legal?
This should be totally illegal! If I have to go, I'm sticking it right between the bars!
Wait so thry say "no going during class" but now "no going between class"
So they'd rather have students be excused from class to use the restrooms? I'd think going between classes would be preferred: not missing part of the class, not interrupting to ask to be excused.... This makes no sense.
Currently, American schools lag a bit behind other countries in the world in terms of their students' academic achievements. When they tested 15-year-olds in their math and science literacy, American teenagers ranked only 38th out of 71 countries. Among other 37 OECD countries in 2022, Americans ranked 38th in math and 12th in science.
Younger students, however, are doing surprisingly more well. In 2015, American fourth-grade students placed 11th out of 48 in math and 8th in science. Eighth-graders scored 8th both in math and science among 37 other countries.

My School Doesn't Have Stall Doors
There are also huge mirrors directly facing them.
That's how they do it in prisons here in the UK - well, without the mirrors or toilet seats, so I suppose it's slightly better.
Load More Replies...This is NOT how American schools are. Not sure where they got this picture, but it's most definitely NOT in any school I've been in or seen.
I attended 4 different elementary schools across 3 states. NONE of them had this

Wow, rather than look at what the cause of “problem behaviour” and start to develop ways to correct it early, just take away privacy and dignity instead.
Woah, so if a girl needs to change a tampon she has to do it publicly? I can see that leading to toxic shock syndrome.
Well, given the urinals, not sure it's a "girls' " bathroom. But, these days, who knows...
Load More Replies...Which is why, for six years, I held it in until I got home. About the same amount of privacy you get in prison!
My School Wants Us To Allow This On Our Personal Devices, Just To Use Google Classroom
That's not right. If schools were that paranoid about it, they should have issued each student separate devices. Another thing that concerned me with online classrooms is students who were already vulnerable and bullied at school had their personal space exposed to their bullies and that eliminated their safe, private space.
Just like if your employer wants you to be available on your day off, they better be paying for that phone or laptop or whatever.
Load More Replies...I only have Android, Apple is overrated and overpriced!
Load More Replies...NOPE. The school wouldn't be controlling the phone that I bought my kid and I'm paying the bill every month.
Oh yeah our school does that too. I eventually just set up a separate account.

Interestingly, Americans don't think that the quality of education in the U.S. is above average. In fact, 32% of adults believe that when it comes to K-12 STEM education, America ranks below average compared to other wealthy nations. But are statistics of academic achievement all that matter when we talk about schools?
The National Assessment of Educational Progress, or NAEP, also surveys children about how they feel at school. Data shows that younger students report feeling happy "all or most of the time" more than older students. 49% of fourth-graders say they're happy at school, while only 27% of eighth-graders say the same.
This Is The Inside Of My Child's Homework Folder Provided By The School. At What Point Has Consumerism Gone Too Far?
What if we funded the schools instead of relying on school districts to do it for themselves?
I was going to say that this is because the schools aren't funded enough and they have to get "sponsors" just to pay for basic needs

If you don't want ads, stop voting to block increases on taxes that fund your school.
My oldest child's high school has full-on video ads playing during football games that play in-between plays, like not at the end of quarters, throughout the entire game!
This blows my mind as an Aussie, because inter-school school sport is generally within school hours (for state schools, not private) and not commercialised- most football fields and gyms are lucky to have scoreboards! Out of school sport has sponsors, but these are generally limited to the logo/name of a sponsor on jerseys. Only other time I remember these sponsors 'advertising' was when the players were given an eraser with the logo on at the start of the season when my brother played basketball, and the sponsor company went bust before the end of the season!

Creepy Surveillance Into The Boys' Bathroom At My High School
There is a window in the boys' bathroom that has a perfect line of sight with the security office that doubles as a panopticon of the entire commons area. If this was the girls' bathroom, heads would roll and there would have been a riot outside years ago. I hate it here.
It's still perverted and as a parent I would be raising hell and pulling my kid out of that school.
As a female it disgusts me how perverted some people are towards boys and nobody seems to care.
When I was in Jr High there was a window like that in the girls gym teacher's office to the locker room. I always went to either a bathroom stall or shower stall to change.
Although this is totally wrong, I understand why they didn't feel the need to monitor the girls bathroom. In my son's school, the boys bathroom is constantly being vandalized while nothing ever happens in the girls..not yet anyways.
Why? Boys are not the only ones who fight in the school washrooms

The School Lunch System Is Disgraceful
From my years in high school I compiled some pictures of the horrible things that got served that no one questioned. It really is ironic given how adamant they all are about eating healthy by including every food group.
I was a lunch lady. The food given to schools is the stuff that isn't good enough to sell at the market. It is the bits and ends of meat, crazy high fat content and so many canned goods. Our director was awesome though. High quality baked goods and fresh fruit or veg with almost every lunch. We also were required to serve 3/4 cup total of fruit and veg per meal. This looks like an Ala cart situation which is almost exclusively a high school option.
Actually it looks better than the slop I had in school. Sloppy Joes and Fish Sticks anyone?
I wouldn’t complain as a kid personally, but as an adult eewwwwww 😂 I’ve always wanted to try an American school lunch though
Load More Replies...The sad thing is, this would’ve literally been equal to a 5-star-restaurant meal at my middle school 💀 Shoutout to the half thawed pizzas, still rubbery chicken, mystery meat that caused food poisoning but they served it again the next week (…surprise surprise, food poisoning, at least for the brave ones who got it again, which many skipped over it bc yuck not fun), good times… good times… /s
compared to some of the stuff I had for lunch these don't look to bad.
At least they got buns. At my high school you received one boiled hot dog, one boiled potato, and a single slice of white bread. They couldn't figure out why less and less kids refused to eat lunch.

What A Sad Country We Live In For My 12-Year-Old To Text Me This
I work at an Australian school. While we don't have 'active shooter' drills we do have lockdown drills. Not necessarily for a gunman/knifeman or a critical threat, it could be for other reasons where students have to remain in the classroom. There is the same number of lockdown drills as there are fire drills.
Load More Replies...Kids shouldn't have to go to school to be traumatized and live in fear like that.
I remember we had a bomb threat at my High School in 2005. So many students were taken home early because of it.
We had a few bomb evacuations at my primary school in the 1970s. Pretty much all of us children viewed it all as "just another boring fire drill" except, of course, each time there had been an apparently credible bomb threat passed to the police. So it goes. Back then, it was down to "The Troubles" over the sea in Ireland. My parents grew up with actual bomb-dropping German air raids.

okay for those who arent in school, this is misleading, this is called the "test out browser" its a special browser that only allows the school districts management, submission for assignments and test windows to be opened on it. it classifies everything, but that does not mean its supposed to be blocked. no hate of course but this pic is misleading
In France it is an "Intruder on campus" drill. Somebody goes around trying the door handles to see if we are locked down, and teachers get instructions on their phones to evacvuate their students through the windows if they are on the ground floor. We do not have work phones, and some teachers do not have cell phones.

Those who are not from America might look at this list and think how strange and different American schools are. But the truth is that each country has something different about its education system and schools that might surprise people. Finland, for example, which is often thought to have one of the best education systems in the world might seem strange too.

Was the same in my high school. The football team was a joke, they hadn't won a game since like 1988. But they still gutted the art department to spend a fortune on a new football field and new uniforms.
The marching band in my school had to fund itself. But the school required one to attend football games. When it rained & the woodwinds had to stow their instruments, people at the games got mad we weren't supporting the football team. We weren't allowed to practice on the football field but used a lined parking lot. The music dept had already been gutted. So transportation on s****y buses, uniforms, large instruments (think tubas), ALL of it came from soliciting donations & fundraisers that required each student to sell x number of crappy products but the parents usually had to pay the difference between what the student sold & what was required. We were the only school in the county and we had to fight everyone fundraising for their own department. The county was so inundated with fundraisers it was hard to sell items. The marching band students had to buy their own shoes and gloves and pay the dry cleaning bill for your uniform. I know there's more but I can't remember it all.

Just a few weeks ago, the Mock Trial team came back from a competition at Yale. We're in Carrollton, Texas. They had to fly there, and it's obviously SUPER expensive. Last year the Law Academy teachers were scrambling around, trying to get some local law firms to help fund us. And still, us Law Academy kids have to sell chocolates throughout the school year to keep the Academy funded. 🙄🙄🙄🙄
This is a public health hazard and should be reported as such. I'm water damage certified. You've got about 72 hrs after an event to get that s**t dried before mold starts growing, and that looks like it's just allowed to sit and cook. Some of those spots are definitely the fruiting body growing through the wall and releasing spores into the air. Guarantee if they're letting it soak the problem is now in the floor and the entire walls. If handled quickly it's a couple hundred to fix. That's gonna cost tens of thousands to fix

Sometimes it's the only way to get their attention.
Load More Replies...Ok I see his point about it being patronizing.... but also you aren't exempt from knowing how to do things because you're the man. One late morning should have been enough for you to figure out you had to prep the night before and/or get up earlier the next day.
Right? Like ooooooo, you had “full responsibility” for three kids? So basically you had to be a parent for A WHOLE WEEK?
Load More Replies...If you're going through a challenging time, be proactive and let the school know your kid may be late so they'll at least know you're paying attention. Also, being late can absolutely affect a child's learning. Arriving 10 minutes after a lesson begins means they missed the demonstration of how to fill out the worksheet or the first several pages of the story being read. I get it that this family was going through something & he didn't like the (condescending) tone of the note but 10 minutes is a big deal.
Should have put the kids in bed earlier and gotten them up earlier. It isn't rocket science.
Oh, no! You had full responsibity for a short time? Are you going to be OK?
I really never understood punishing kids for being late if they're being driven to school by their parents. It's obviously not the kid's fault.
It’s funny, I’m pretty sure elementary school administrators get used to talking to children all day and then talk to the parents in the same didactic tone. I’ve noticed this in my kid’s school as well!
Lol, my father is a teacher and he always says how much he dislikes other teachers and isn't like them, while being exactly like them. It seems almost impossible for a teacher not to be somewhat patronising

This Is What They Gave Us For Lunch Today. I’m A 6'5" 160 Lbs Track Athlete, With Practice And Weight Training After School. This Did Little To Nothing To My Hunger Level
Absolutely! The only way this meal was acceptable is because the student opted to not choose from any other options. Quite possibly, this was all a training athlete could eat that supported training and practice. Sidenote: I loved those hamburgers with a generous helping of mustard. I passed on the side options because they looked nasty. Eventually I brought my own lunch because I had teachers who let me hide in their classroom and eat and do homework so I didn't have to take it home.
Load More Replies...Again, can students bring their own packed lunch? Surely it would be better than this.
Again, yes. Also, this does not look like a standard American school lunch. There's no vegetable, which is required, chocolate milk is rare. TruMoo is a SoCal brand so maybe things are different in Cali but in my neck of the woods, more common was Tony's pizza, beenie weinies, or Salisbury Steak. Generally mixed vegetables, mash potatoes, or tater tots as a side. Often some grapes or other mixed fruit.
Load More Replies...That is ridiculous and nasty looking. That's not enough for any teenager especially an athlete.
All schools in the US are required to have lunch choices and a salad bar for any school participating in the school lunch program and getting those funds. Find out why your schools aren’t giving that. I notice that kids will refuse to get anything healthy and then ask for extras of the unhealthy stuff like this.
When did that happen? My children's public schools never had a salad bar, not in elementary, middle school, or high school. But they are millennials.

The South Korean education system is often lauded as well. Students in Korea spend more time at school than American students. An average American student spends 180 days a year at school, while a Korean student – about 220. Together with Finland, students in South Korea also get the least amount of homework per week.
Honestly, I’d Rather Just Ask For Cash
So we have to buy a $60 box of chocolate bars (which I noticed are now only 0.8 oz when they used to be 1.5 oz), sell the whole box, and only $22 of that goes towards an end of year trip? Just no. I’d rather donate cash and save myself and my kid the headache. Or even do a lemonade stand, or sell bracelets. Seems like the least efficient way to do a fundraiser.
The fact that our schools are holding fundraisers for basic needs says a lot about our country as a whole.
Why doesn't the schools save the money they pay for these chocolate bars and use it to fund the field trips and just have the parents pay any difference in cost for their kids? And then the kids can do their own thing on the side if the parents can't cover the difference.
I do not let my children embarrass themselves selling this school nonsense. It’s mostly parents that sell them to coworkers and people that don’t want them. I teach my children better things instead and reward them myself.
When my son was in grade school (early 1990's) he had a fund raiser. He sold (we donated $20) worth of stuff . Then he comes home with a note that he raised more money than anyone in his class and as a reward was given time in a money machine (they blow money and you get to keep whatever you can grab) He grabbed $30 and we had to pick it up because a grade schooler would probably use it to buy d***s. So my son managed to raise -$10 for the school. So proud. After we realized that this was not some crazy prank.

I'm not saying you should do this but on windows you can create a batch file that will run command line inputs. There's a bunch of things you can do with them. For instance you can have it run a web browser and then run itself. You then replace the shortcut for the web browser with one that looks identical but runs your. Bat. Oh I should add that the pause/break key not only will break this run away train, it is in fact the original purpose of it.

My School Is Fining Students That Take Too Long In The Bathroom
isn’t it literally illegal to have cameras in a public bathroom???
Load More Replies...Honest question: Are the cameras IN the bathroom or at the entrance?
Doesn't matter. Data protection laws makes it clear where you can and can not place cameras, and places like toilets and their entrances/exits is one place where you have expectancy of privacy and the right not to be recorded. (there are exceptions such as where the adjoining space is a public space like a town square having a public toilet facility, but this is not the case here)

My friend's kid's school is having a fundraiser. I was like, yeah sure I'll donate 5 bucks. Nope. Well now they're getting no money because 15 is a little too much for me.
The words 'must' and 'donation' should not be in the same sentence. It's like the 'mandatory' and 'tipping' - they describe system-level errors.
We have minimum payment laws for employees, but we should not have minimum payment laws for a kid's d*** school fundraiser.
The hell if they hunk they can enforce this one anyone. Only a private school would pull this s**t.

My high school only had an actual nurse part time, probably shared with another school. If they weren't there you had to knock on the staff room door and hope a teacher was in there. In my primary school the first aider was the office lady.
Load More Replies...Best not get food poisoning from the "healthy lunch" provided during these times.
So the nurse wants a kid bleeding all over the place. Holding the head back and pinching the bridge of the nose doesn't always stop a nosebleed. Headache would depend on severity, kid could have a migraine or undiagnosed brain tumor, etc. Sore throat could be anything from allergies to strep to Mononucleosis.
Don't put the head back with a nosebleed, no no no no!
Load More Replies...But they can't have a cough drop in class. Or be given their PRESCRIBED MEDICATION unless it fits in the schedule of this alleged nursing professional!!and we wonder why any idiot would rather homeschool their child instead of tolerate this micromanaging bs that prefers kids be target practice since guns are more protected than our students!!!!
This is awful. Those things can mean internal damage or severe illness, and my kid has already caught pneumonia once from the nurse not being in her office...
At my school our school nurses medical areas even had separate rooms with a bed and a chair in them for students to rest or sleep. They were by the staff rooms so quite quiet. They understood that paracetamol, a hot water bottle, blanket and a nap helped so much especially for the crippling period pain I used to have. The nurse would check in on you, bring the sick bucket or a warm drink. On a good day I'd feel better quickly and be back at class. On a bad, might be two hours. Understanding and Compassion go a long way. Now kids aren't even allowed out of the class for the toilet or to change their sanitary protection. We've gone backwards. This was 1980s, Matlock, UK.
Here's another fun fact for you: students in Australia and New Zealand sometimes go to school barefoot. Kiwis and Australians going to the local supermarket barefoot isn't so unusual generally, so why should schools be different? Inglewood Primary School in Perth, Australia, has officially adopted a no-shoe policy. "We believe that children need opportunities to explore indoor and outdoor environments without shoes," they stated in a newsletter.

Otherwise you end up with things like this. I'm pretty sure that's what's supposed to happen, now, whether it does I guess is a whole other thing.
Yes. That's the way it would be where I teach in Australia. Either we would have supports for them to be able to participate or we would have a different task all together (that teaches the same thing).
Load More Replies...they weren’t prepping for the blind kid, just call and explain to get a more suitable version.
Okay, but, assuming this is a primary school… classes usually have to account for every student. With the reasonable adjustments that have to be made for a student with a disability, alternatives should have already been considered.

About Half Of This 50-Gallon Trash Can Is Full Of Perfectly Good Cartons Of Milk, Expiration Date Is In 2 Weeks. Schools Waste A Lot Of Food
Our school district used to give food away to the homeless until someone claimed to have gotten a tummy ache and sued.
Unless this happened before 1996, the district is lying and they just don't want to donate. Federal law protects people and entities from being sued when they donate food in good faith. Good Samaritan Act, shortened link to usda.gov: https://shorturl.at/h9uDh
Load More Replies...We didn't. We would sanitize them and put em out at lunch as free for anyone who wanted one. That is what this looks like to me. We didn't fish them out of the trash of course but would collect unopened milk when we collected the trays.
*record scratch sound* Wait, didn't we just point out them using a sharpie on the expiration date on a bag of chips? So which is it?
You can't tell by this picture, or the expiration date, that this milk is good. The expiration date assumes the milk stays refrigerated. Maybe there was a power outage or some other reason their coolers failed.
I once had chunky chocolate milk at school. It was 2 weeks over the expiration date and I told admin and they did nothing.

When The School Gives A Big Box To Hide The Size Of The Pizza
Maybe they could give a full size slice if they saved money by deleting the packaging.
I used to be kitchen manager of a pizza place. An extra large all meat 16" pizza had a food cost of under $5 and yields 12 large slices. That looks like they're getting 20 slices per pizza and it's just thin cheese. That's "feeding" 20 kids for about $3. These people need to be publicly flogged
Start growing mushrooms in shower rooms. Pizza with mushrooms will provide better nutritional value.
In my day, we didn't have pizza. Or pizza boxes. In fact we were waiting for pizza to be invented!
Actually, seeing what the actual pizza looks like makes me glad there's not more....
That could be a serving for smaller children. We would cut the slices smaller for k-grade 3.

While we were meant to remember a few formulas off the top of our head in maths, we were allowed to have a summary book for most things. One of our final exams was closed book, and focused on mental arithmetic without formulas, the other was open book. Never mind you will never use this in real life, learn it for the moment then forget it.
My Little Brother’s Middle School Schedule. He’s Having Such A Hard Time Remembering When Periods Start And End. Why Are The Times This Specific?
I don't think those are breaks, but time to move to the next classroom.
Load More Replies...In my area - Midwest US - they do this b/c the State requires public schools to have a certain number of hours of instruction per year. These passing periods are 4 minutes. If they were five minutes instead of four, which would make keeping track much much easier - it would mean losing 8 minutes of instruction a day. For a school years of 32 weeks, that's over twenty hours of instruction time lost. We pretend that having a four minute rather than a five minute passing period makes a whit of difference.
My son’s schedule is like this. We had to follow his bell schedule on meet the teacher night; it was insane. They get like 2 minute and 23 seconds to get to each class. My husband and I gave up after the 4th period bell and just wandered into the class when we got there.
Wait till he joins the world of the working class. For years my job started at 5 am, first break was at 8 am, lunch was at 11 am, second break was at 12:30 pm. Someone decided we need a balanced work day, work started at 5 am, first break was at 7 am, lunch was at 9 am and second break was at 11:30 am. The only problem with this was the cafeteria schedule was breakfast from 4:30 am to 7 am, lunch was 10 am to 11:30 am. The cafeteria was no allowed to adjust their hours to the new schedule because it would not work with managements daily schedule. A few months later the cafeteria laid off all their employees and shut down due the lack of business.
4 minutes breaks between classes? My kids have 10 minutes, with a 15 m. break at 10 AM.
When my daughter was in high school, the times were super specific like that because the teachers union had negotiated that every Friday was a half day so they could work on lesson plans and the like. The added minutes per day for each class made sure the state-mandated number of hours for students was met. The students got used to it very quickly.
My high school was exactly the same. I think our hours were 8:58am - 3:22 pm or something specific like that

I might be wrong, but I think many of these school lunch issues that are shown are actually the fault of the federal government. guidelines were put in place, I don't recall when, having to due with calorie amounts, grains, vegetables, or something. they were absurd.

Paying $55 Fee For School Supplies Instead Of Buying A List Of Supplies. Up From $30. I Understand The Cost Of Everything Has Gone Up, But Buying The Supplies Ourselves Might Be Cheaper?
When my kid was going to school, even back in the 00's, there was a $55 fee + a list of supplies, including 100 pencils for the teacher.
Don't get me started on school supplies. The amount of printed work papers/ unused paper that comes home and the used supplies that get sent home at the end of the year have me convinced that we waste a lot in these schools. We now have a stash of about 20 perfectly good scissors because apparently they need fresh scissors out of the package every year. One year my kids all came home with a whole bunch of never used dry erase markers the teacher wanted to get rid of at the end of the year.
This Vending Machine At My High School
Might as well unplug the thing. Hah! Probably an abuse issue and owner/operator got tired of dealing with it. Our Coke machines in high school back in the 90's were always lined up with students when the refill guy showed up to claim their cash. You can generally tell just by the stock left in there vs the money stuck in the receptacle.
Have a vending machine prone to getting violent retaliatory at their own risk.

Also possible they don't want to have the cost of paying staff to work longer because they are washing more things, even if they are put through a dishwasher.

The Amount Of Leg Room On A School Bus
As I've heard it out, most school buses aren't traveling fast, most anything hitting it will not cause much trouble, but mechanical things and possible fires are more a threat, and getting 40+ young kids off a burning bus when they panic and can't undo a seatbelt would be worse. That's typical in Canada, too. Nothing too out there and strange. They're usually old dispensers. But they should bring in new ones that allow card readers or .... I think I've seen people pay for things with their phones.
Huh. Theres two dispensers in the girls bathroom, one is free and the other not. Guess which one works?
My school used to not even have those, thankfully the women's club (not sure what term to use, just a place for the female students to chat and hang out) partnered with a non-profit and got period boxes in the bathrooms.
In my high school, while we did have these in the girl bathrooms (though I think they were tampons only, not pads; and I think the price might have been a pound), you could also get free pads and tampons at the school nurse’s office. Just walk in, grab from a box immediately to your left, leave; no need to ask for them or explain why you need them.
Even though it costs money, this would have been preferable to having to go to sick bay and hope there was a nurse there that day if we needed a tampon etc at school. Now the premier of my state has just promised to have free dispensers in every school in the state.
Schools in Ventura County provide them for free (I'm a custodian at a high school there).
My Girlfriend Just Got A Job Teaching At A D-Rated Elementary School In Florida. How Do I Clean The Kid's Bathroom?
1st grade class with a private bathroom. The wall behind the toilet is disgusting. Apparently, the janitors are too lazy to clean it for her, so it’s either our job, or the kiddos will have to put up with it for a year.
Enzysan. If you can get the maintenance director to buy it, it works. Otherwise bleach the s*** out of it at the end of the day. let THEM clean it up. Of course someone doing their job would be best. I would have SUCH a sense of shame if I walked out after cleaning and it looked like this. Also, put in a maintenance request to have the BathRoom painted...with enamel paint.

What's with the different supplies for boys and girls? Baby wipes for girls, sharpies for boys? Different sizes paper plates? Makes no sense. I see no reason why this distinction based on gender should be made.
The kids are being asked to buy classroom supplies, I guess they just assigned different items to each half of the students.
Load More Replies...I read that and thought "What?" - each child must supply five boxes of crayons, 24 per box? 16 glue sticks? - "general supplies do not need to be labelled". Yeah, they're getting the parents of these kids to provide supplies for the entire school. Just say no, that's what I'd do.
This always ticked me off when my kids were in elementary school. I get that schools don't have money, but I'm not buying stuff for the classroom.
In addition to everything else wrong with this, the specific branding of some items really irks me. Schools shouldn't be promoting specific corporations, any crayons their parents choose should be just fine. What's next? Amazon-exclusive products? Ridiculous.

There's no sense in asking for a 200mm x 130mm plastic supply box when the nearest you're going to get is marked up as 8" x 5" (203.2mm x 127mm if you want to nit-pick). I've never seen any of these things at US schools. Maybe they were taken from schools for troubled kids or something (disciplinary issues, etc?)
