For many women, the wedding dress is as big a deal as the ceremony itself. It’s something they will repeatedly look back on through photos and videos as part of a momentous day in their lives.
Each bride will have a design in mind. Some of them exude enough glamor to make the cover of Brides Magazine. However, others are more on the quirky side, and you’re about to see some of the most unique ones.
Some of you may find these dresses to be massive eyesores, and we see where you’re coming from.

Wedding dresses are supposedly symbolic of purity, innocence, and a fresh start. According to Georgina Scott Bridal, they also denote the bridal family’s wealth, something that has been prevalent since Medieval times.

White wedding dresses have been around since the early 1920s. However, they only became an established tradition in 1957, according to Vogue.
“Even in cultures where white wedding dresses are not the norm—such as China, where traditionally red symbolizes luck and prosperity—some brides change into white dresses for official photographs,” an excerpt from the article reads.

Many women choose to preserve the sanctity of their wedding dress and refuse to use it again. However, others have found creative ways to rewear their gowns from their big day. One of them is Sarah Godfrey, who went viral on TikTok for how she repurposed the corset of her dress.

In an interview with Vogue Australia, Godfrey refuses to accept the notion that rewearing a wedding dress should feel sacrilegious. Most of the people who commented on her video agree, as she got mostly praise.
“Daring to rewear one’s wedding gown feels in line with the idea that, yes, the wedding is a life highlight. But no, it’s not the only one,” she said.

As soon as I finish this sentence I'll check with Google images to see if this was at Burning Man. Unfortunately and useful info is buried under a flood of ugly dress results, but when I added [burning man] to the search the AI response said (agreed?) that the "unusual setting" might be Burning Man. If it was there it's a far more conservative outfit than many of the others.
Load More Replies..."In 2004 when we married at Burning Man, to express my enduring passion for my husband and for plastic bags, my wedding dress was fashioned entirely from recycled materials: the bodice and net skirt were sourced from the thrift shop, white single-use plastic shopping bags were gathered for the bow and the hoop of the skirt, transparent plastic dry cleaner bags were knitted for the shawl, pieces of white plastic collected from Kehoe Beach embellished the trim and tiny swirls of pink plastic bags were fashioned into roses to decorate the tiara."
Amazing how many people said Burning Man. That was my immediate thought and I've never been and never would, and don't think I'd like it. So odd.
I've never been to it, either, but we obviously both know about it. A post added after mine suggests that it was at Burning Man, but there's absolutely no question that the area looks like the BM location.

Bad combo and not very flattering for her body shape. Could look quite nice if worn by a different person with suitable “decoration”
Mostly, these lists of "women wearing clothes" irritate me. This one? I loved it! I don't know why, but I did. Most of the outfits were rather good, and the ones that weren't - well, "an attempt was made", yeah? 🤣

I enjoyed this thread because I genuinely loved a lot of the dresses. As I said in a post above, I think that even if, say, the post's title is negative, it doesn't mean that the whole thread has to be. The vast majority of the comments were supportive and nobody was outright mean (so far. I'm sure that'll change if, erm, *some other* people come here). At the end of the day, I really enjoyed seeing peoples' creativity, skills and uniqueness, and hope that they all had an awesome day. No shaming here.
Stop putting b******t titles on this article. Just call it "original wedding dresses".
Why shame people for their taste or style ? Why judge people on how you view their social standing ? It's sad that this is how BP thinks this is acceptable entertainment.
All of them made an effort. Most of them actually look very pretty and, way more important, happy in their dress! And they all made an effort to look special. I think that is really nice ❤️
My mother had a pale blue wedding dress. Nothing out there as such, but the colour was not "what you did" when she got married. She looked beautiful. She isn't one for anything OTT -- I won't call her 'simple' 'cos I don't think she is, and also she'd kill me, lol, but I hope you know what I mean -- she just went for what she liked, which is one of the many things I love about her.
The problem here is that an industry that makes money selling you needless stuff is the one setting the standard for what weddings should be. Stop. Just stop. No you don't need to spend 50 grand on 1 day. No its not the most important day of your life. I have lost count of how many weddings I've been to for friends I don't even like anymore. Weddings are a total waste of money.
Once again we have a list were most of the "ugly" dress are really well done just not to everyone's taste. Shame.
