Time Affects Us All: 30 Celebrities Photoshopped Side-By-Side With Their Younger Selves By Ard Gelinck (New Pics)
Interview With ArtistAging’s an interesting thing and a great equalizer—you probably won’t notice the small changes that happen to you over the weeks, months, and years from your day-to-day glances in the mirror. However, the moment that you take a step back and compare yourself as you are now to a photo from before, you realize just how much the flow of time affects us all. And our beloved celebrities feel it just as much as we do.
Ard Gelinck, a Dutch graphic designer, photoshops well-known actors, musicians, and other celebrities side-by-side with their younger selves in cool poses and gives us a unique glance at just how much they’ve changed over the years. With over a decade of experience working with Photoshop on the ‘Then and Now’ series, Ard has amassed a loyal following on Instagram, with over 290k people eagerly awaiting his next post.
Scroll down to check out some of Ard’s fantastic new celeb comparison images, upvote the ones that you enjoyed the most, and be sure to let us know which ones you love the most, dear Pandas. I had a friendly chat with Ard and he told me that he's nowhere near to running out of ideas for his project. "There are millions of photos from those celebs so the combinations are endless, you just have to see it," Ard told Bored Panda that this is what keeps him passionate. You'll find the full interview with Ard below, so be sure to read on. Oh, and a small spoiler warning: celebrities absolutely love Ard's work!

David Bowie
Matt Leblanc
I’ve said it before, he and Lisa Cudrow looked the best at the Friends reunion.
I live in North Sligo which is in Southern Ireland and Matt has just bought a house up the road from me. I'm hoping that I may meet him in person while out walking my dog.
Leonardo Dicaprio
I was curious to find out how Ard decides what image to work on. He revealed that current events can influence this. "Sometimes, I react to a news item, a birthday, or day of death and then post an edit of that celeb as an honor or celebration," he shared with Bored Panda.
What's more, the graphic designer gave Bored Panda a sneak peek into his work process and how various stars have reacted to his compositions. Ard told me that, on average, he spends an hour on any particular image. However, that time can decrease or increase depending on the complexity and type of the photos used. Sometimes, the time can drop down to half an hour or rise to two or even three hours. "That depends a lot on the photos. Sometimes it takes me longer to search than to make it."
Pierce Brosnan
Drew Barrymore
Will Smith
Now this is a story all about how my life got twist turned upside down...
...And I'd like to take a moment; just sit right there...
Load More Replies...Ard noted that he makes all of his images with Adobe Photoshop which he learned to use all by himself. "You have to buy that software and just begin and try and practice a lot until, in my case, you have the luck that a lot of people like it," he shared some advice with those of you Pandas who might want to follow in his footsteps.
"I love the reactions from all over the world and see and read how it can make people smile and make them even emotional sometimes," Ard said that he adores how his images affect people. "Also the list of celebs who shared my work is getting longer and longer. The biggest stars like Madonna, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Jones, Michael Douglas, Tina Turner, Rob Lowe, Gary Barlow, Ricky Gervais, and Snoop Dogg have all shared my creations and that also keeps me excited and gives me the energy to keep on doing this."
Annie Lennox
Halle Berry
Macaulay Culkin
Big fan! The Good Son and Party Monster never took off like Home Alone, but he's dynamic
This isn't the first time that Ard spoke with Bored Panda about his project. “The 'Then and Now' series is quite old when you consider that me and my brother made the first image for it about 10 years ago," Ard told Bored Panda in an earlier interview. After a successful debut in the Netherlands, Ard widened his gaze and set his sights on celebs who are known all around the globe.
"About 5 years ago, I edited pictures for a lot of Dutch celebrities and it was a success, so I then started working with foreign celebrity photos. The first one was Madonna, and she even posted my image on her own Instagram."
You’d be hard-pressed to find a celebrity that Ard hasn’t photoshopped yet. I know that he’s done a few of my favorites already: Keanu Reeves, Matt LeBlanc, Daniel Radcliffe, and others. "When I think about it, the list is quite impressive," the graphic designer said.
Joaquin Phoenix
Was terrific in Parenthood. A sign of great things to come for his career. Glad he found happiness at home.
Probably because he doesn’t want the focus to be on the days when his family were in a cult.

Julia Roberts
The younger version looks photoshopped, though. Julia once said about her smile: "I've always hated it. It looks like a clothes hanger."
When it comes to deciding what kind of pose Ard wants the celebrities to be in, he considers a wide variety of factors. “I'm trying to find one where they're standing next to each other,” he said that he prefers the younger and older selves to be closer together.
According to Ard, his project resonates with so many people because people enjoy getting nostalgic and thinking about the old days when their fave stars were still young.
Bill Withers
Dwayne Johnson
Never seems to take himself too seriously, which adds so much to his charm!
Didn't care much for him until I saw Jumanji - no, he'll never play Hamlet, but he has a wonderful instinct for comic timing.

Earlier, I’d spoken about actors aging gracefully with LA-based celeb expert Mike Sington. He told Bored Panda that celebrities ought to embrace the changes that come with time and should strive to age naturally.
“I’ve said this a million times, and I’ll say it again. The best way to age gracefully is to just age gracefully! Once an actor starts with facial cosmetic work, whether it is surgery or fillers, it physically affects their ability to work as an effective actor. An actor needs natural facial expression, and once that’s altered, it’s almost always noticeable and can actually end a career,” Mike told me.
Michael J. Fox
Tom Selleck
I wonder how things would've been different if he somehow got out of his Magnum contract and played Indiana Jones.
Load More Replies...Quote I heard: There are only 10 men who can wear that mustache, and he's 9 of them.
Ted Danson
Pink
“Wind me up and watch me go, where she stops, nobody knows” hubby’s favourite pink lyric to describe me 😆
Madonna
Was a diehard fan when she was on the left... by the time the right came along, i didn't even listen to her anymore....Left Madonna, you are the only one for me.....
That's so harsh.. I understand your comment and I would agree with you but reading it makes me question my POV.. She had a great career and she didn't age "gracefully" but who are we to judge her. I read something about her marriage to Guy Richie and all the compromises she made to make it work while he denigrated her all a long. Then went to marry a woman half her age. Her friends said that it broke her.. Anyway sorry for the rant I just felt that we were too hard on her. (While men get away with anything..)
Load More Replies...Well she is the best selling female recording artist of all time... so maybe she tried hard enough.
Load More Replies...Actual Madonna has little in common with Madonna on the left, even with the one on the right.
You make no sense at all unless you're talking about religions.

Rutger Hauer
I had such a huge crush on him when I was a kid and watched Ladyhawk!
I saw that! Excellent movie! Of course he was good in Buffy: The Vampire Slayer as Lothos.
Load More Replies...A great variety of performances: Blade Runner, Ladyhawke, Buffy The Vampire Slayer [movie], and TV series like Merlin and True Blood [where he played 'faerie grandfather'] .
Did you know that Anne Rice had him in mind when she created LeStat in INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE?
George Michael
Left George is from the 1984 video Last Christmas. It got to number 2 in the charts at Christmas time that year. The Christmas number 1 that year was the African charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? by Band Aid in which he contributed. What he also did give all the royalties to Last Christmas to the Band Aid charity. So whenever that song gets played the charity still benefits. Typical George to do something like that. He was a great man.
Better than any religion, this is the guy who taught me about faith.
Prince
Scarlett Johansson
Joe Biden
They can't be the same people. I mean look at the ears. Ears don't change. Especially the lobes. First they're free hanging and now they're attached to his neck.
The angle of the shot is different, that would explain why you can't see the ear lobes as well in the 'now' shot.

Whitney Houston
Probably my fave vocalist of all time: an empowering being with a great sense of humor. Dearly missed, she deserved so much better.
Bon Jovi
Rick Astley
Wonder why Keanu Reeves didn't appear in the pics. Genuine humble guy regardless of his money
Goldie Hawn
She looks so much like Kate Hudson on the younger version! (Edit: obviously should have said that i know it's her daughter!! Obviously!)
You mean her daughter looks like she did when she was younger. FIFY

Jennifer Aniston
Tbh, she still looks great, it's like she found the fountain of youth or something
Ricky Gervais
Did you know that Ricky Gervais was an 80s pop singer, in the duo Seona Dancing? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxV5b60mI_k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxnDlTkR5w0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FhRhsNRY6Q
David Beckham
Kurt Cobain
Awww, he was a cute-looking kid. Had no idea, never seen a kid-pic.
James Hetfield
Courteney Cox
I love CC but she’s had far too much plastic surgery. Shame as she was the prettiest of the 3 Friends girls.
Yeah... sometimes it's not difficult to accept your age .. i believe she would be really beautiful if she had aged naturally
Load More Replies...Courteney needs to cut her hair and have bangs again. She’ll look 10 years younger. Same with Demi Moore.
Harry Styles
yeah...dresses and f*****g high heels smh
Load More Replies...Bono
Justin Timberlake
John Stamos
Richard Gere
Britney Spears
I love Britney BUT she's stuck with the 90's makeup (maybe not in this picture). It's kinda sad because it makes her look way older. But maybe she's forced to do it?
Probably she is not even allowed to choose her own makeup!! Shame for America's justice and shame for anyone that keeps her captive! #free Britney

I think Kate is aging like fine wine... Kate exudes warmth and grace!
I can actually see Prince George in her younger self there
Did you mean Charlotte, her daughter? There is no Princess Caroline of Britain right now.
Load More Replies...Beyoncé Knowles

My daughter had a similar one in between her nostrils when she was born (always looked like she had a bloody nose). It faded after a while. I'd assume, like someone else pointed out that it was removed or simply faded with time.

Cher
Love me some Cher! I just wish that all of these freaking rock icons would be allowed to have the self esteem that would enable growing old naturally! Sigh.
Michael Jackson
I could never understand that, either. It's as if he became a caricature of himself.
Load More Replies...Too bad he didn't believe how handsome he was. Awesome singer and dancer!
I am going to get a lot of hate for this, but why is a known child abuser still making his way onto sites like this? When we still stop pretending their bad behaviour didn't happen & stop supporting this sh**?? Who cares if he made good music at this point - he destroyed peoples lives!!
Possibly because he was never convicted of any offence, despite two separate trials ten years apart. Possibly because too many people tend to excuse bad behaviour by someone they admire as long as it doesn’t interfere with the rest of their personal beliefs.
Load More Replies...To be honest side by side like this they don't look too different - everyone makes it out to be an enormous change when in reality, an auto immune condition started it all. After this point he definitely went too far.... but at this point, I think he still looked like himself, and good.
Also one thing I don't ever hear anyone talk about is how narrowing his nose SO MUCH really changed the sound of his voice - he didn't have the same power he had as a kid after that as obviously it's going to change the way you sound
Load More Replies...Sharon Stone
Alicia Silverstone
John Mcenroe
I was just wondering about him today, for some random reason.
Pharrell Williams
Ariana Grande
Oh wow she has had a lot of surgery, I don't know if I would have recognised her (not judging, I'm sure I would too if I could afford it)
Kim Wilde
Read an article where she spontaneously sang kids in america on London tube.
Jennifer Aniston
I try but fail to understand what is so special about her. I even preferred Janice over her. Even în other films...she s not a lady to remember
Chris Martin
Melanie C
Diego Maradona
Ralph Macchio
Dirk Benedict
And a very nice and funny man, met him ages ago on a comic con type event in Birmingham, it was early in the day and not many people about so he was chatting to everyone that came to his table for an autograph!

Louis Tomlinson
Mark Owen
Justin Bieber
Brian Wilson
Kevin Jonas
Madonna

His Royal Highness Prince Charles
What a homely man. Princess Diana was so gorgeous! He didn't deserve her. So Charles got what he wanted. He and Camilla look just alike. Their heads are elongated and she is as homely as her husband. No doubt about it, they look alike and that is not a compliment!!!
Marco Van Basten
Carlo Boszhard
Tom Cruise
Does look good, doesn’t it? He very seldom misses the mark.

Load More Replies...I see Paul Rudd isn’t in the list… because the man DOESN’T age! He’s wearing the One Ring or something!
Like really he looks like he's in his 30s
Load More Replies...There are so many comments here criticizing these people over "lip filler" and "plastic surgery" and various other modifications. Why? What's wrong with that? If someone has the time and money and wants to alter themselves in a way that makes them feel good about their appearance, why shouldn't they? Why does that make them a less valid person? I'm all for loving yourself and the critics be dammed but, if you are going to feel better, why not do it. I struggled for years with VERY asymmetrical breasts; I'm talking a full C and less than an A. Incredibly self conscious, suffered from a good deal of anxiety. Finally got cosmetic surgery and my confidence went through the roof! Remember; cosmetic surgery can drastically influence how you FEEL about yourself. It isn't all about vanity.
I couldn't agree with you more. The only issue I have is when young women start with procedures due to pressure from social media. Nothing wrong with wanting to look your best; be the best version of yourself, not a KK wannabe.
Load More Replies...This post is stupid.how can you show the aging process of people who died so young? Marilyn Monroe was only in her 30s. Elvis was in his 40s. I don't know who some of these people are. Far too many repeats if Jennifer Anniston, Madonna and Courtney c*x
Yes time affects us all. Thanks for pointing this out to all of us. Do the best you can with the time you have.
