Absolute legend. Nothing else is good enough to say about this man.
I have learnt something new today, I did not know Asian men could not marry white women.
Federally, 1970, Loving vs. Virginia, inter-racial marriage banning was deemed unconstitutional (in that case it was black and white but it applied to other races), in a lot of states the state ban on inter-racial marriage lasted longer
Load More Replies...This man is a national treasure and we should be noticing him way more than we do.
When my husband was born in 1955, his white GI father couldn't marry is mother, a Japanese woman without resigning from the Army; two years he became an American Citizen Abroad.
some one please inform justice thomas and moscow mitch about the laws regarding inter racial marriage?
My mum works at the local library. She’s helped people get jobs, start a garden, complete challenges on video games, start an art career, learn to cook, get sober, complete degrees, find housing and change their lives. Libraries (and library workers) are such an underrated cornerstone of society!
Load More Replies...The smell is enough to keep me coming back, especially history stacks.
Libraries are my favorite and my kids favorite place in the world. Even as teens, they love going to the library because I took them so much as children
Hope the Library was able to provide a shirt and tie for him to wear during the interview - that would be cool.
Good man. We all make mistakes, some more serious than others. But this man did his time and paid his dues. He deserves a fresh start.
Some people say that you can never repay your debt to society or the people you wronged but, unless and until we start to truly believe in rehabilitation, there will be no possible way for people such as this man to have an honest opportunity to put their life back on track and to avoid re-offending.
Load More Replies...They definitely have feelings and can read ours too! Reminds me of this one time I was having a heated argument with my parents, involving screaming back and forth. There was a coffee table in between us. My cat who was sleeping in a different room walked in, got on the coffee table and started crying/screaming loudly while looking at me. She’s never been that loud and she definitely has never done something like that before. Her screams were so effective that we actually stopped arguing and ended up totally distracted discussing her unusual behaviour. I’m not sure if she was “saving” me thinking I was in trouble or saving my parents but it sure did work!
My cat tried to kill my mother by sleeping on her face. Rest in piece smokey you beautiful sweet protective girl
Load More Replies...My cat wakes me up most mornings by standing the bedroom doorway yowling. Occassionally he wakes me during the night by gently pawing my face or neck while quietly meowing. One time recently, I awoke being aware I'd been agitated and talking in my sleep. Upon reflection, I realized I've been deeply asleep everytime he has done that. I'm now pretty sure he's waking me when I'm having a bad dream.
When I'm tossing and turning in my sleep, my cat lays on me to calm me down. They are angels!
Load More Replies...My mother passed away last November. This week I had a horrible nightmare about her. I woke up in a panic, crying my eyes out, even hyperventilating. My cat jumped into my lap, rested his head on my chin, one paw on each side of his neck... A REAL cat hug.
I'm so sorry for your loss. My dad passed away in 2023. My kitty both mourned his loss because they loved each other and also comforted me and my mom and looked after us. She started sleeping on top of me in the months after his passing, and now she does it most nights.
Load More Replies...Cats are so sensible little creatures. On christmas I had several seizures and my partner told me that both cats tried to comfort me during the incidents and when I gained conciousness again. One (the least aggressive cat I know) tried to fight the emergency doc/nurses because I didn't want to go to the hospital (I hate hospitals). Partner said they had to physically restrain the cat and patch up some scratches the main nurse got. 😅 I'm sorry nurse Marie. I hope you got the chocolates.
I get migraines and even with medication I cannot get rid of it until I sleep. For me medication just means I sleep less and it actually goes away. My sweet girl will stay with me almost the entire time. She will meet my hubby at the door when he comes home and demands he fallow her to check on me. But after that she gets pissed if he comes back to check on me and wake me up. If he just opens the door and looks in without waking me, she gets up and sit on the corner of the bed between the door and me. If he wakes me up, she will jump down and she makes this demanding sound that the tone somehow doesn't hurt me, but is very determined that he fallow her out of the room.
My girl does this too. when I'm having a bad migraine, she refuses to leave my lap, even for her usual favorite porch time.
Load More Replies...All of my cats have been loving sweeties who would run to meet me when I came home and snuggle up a storm. One time I was renting a split-level place, and my cat Dickens would run upstairs to look out the window when he heard my car pull in, then run downstairs to greet me at the door. Then we would go up to my room, where he jumped on the bed, and I would lean toward him, and we would head bonk. He was also good at carrying on a “conversation.” Such a character.
That's beautiful. Cats are the best companions. Mine is currently sleeping on the desk, draped across my left hand while I type this with my right.
Wish the original poster could see how many people this has reached by now and know how many have sent their congrats.
Yup. that's the rule. My kitty loves to sleep on my legs when I'm in bed. And every time, it means I'm not allowed to move until she's ready. Cat beds don't move.

This made me recall the word, "Ubuntu"...this is an ancient African word meaning 'humanity to others'. Wonderful. Having a good neighbour is a rare pleasure these days.
When I lived in Colorado people always got out to help people in the snow. It was the culture there. You help other people stranded in snow. They also, wisely, stayed miles away from my car with CA plates. Which was good bc I spun out twice my first winter.
They must be proud of each other. I'm crying for happiness for both.
I'm not crying... You're crying!!! I swear!!! Dayum Ninja Onions!!!
Around 1967, I was at the zoo and a small cat followed me around and even followed me through the exit. So I picked it up, stuffed it down my pullover (which it loved) and took it home on the tram. The conductor saw it but didn't ask for another fare ! It became a buddy for our older cat. Well, let's say he tolerated it.
I don't think you're allowed to bring home animals from the zoo
This is a nice story, but I feel like I just had a stroke while trying to read it

I don't have many heroes in my life, but I think I just added one to my short list of them here.
Similar situation with my son, but not nearly as bad; the doctors let me be the one to constantly help him re-establish his breathing. You're not ever the same after something like that. I almost felt like I had stolen something from his Mom, but she needed her recovery also.

She was in labor with me for 8 days and I was born in a clean bedpan, with no one else but her roommate, in the room. I was extremely underdeveloped and rushed to NICU, weighing 1 kg/ 2 lbs, 2.5 oz and 13 in/ 33 cm long. I was so small, that even preemie clothes were too big and I wore Cabbage Patch Dolls clothes. I'll be 40, later this year. 💪🏻

I honestly believe most children need a pet. It teaches them so much, and not just about things like responsibility, but about unconditional love.
It also teaches them about death. That's why it's u usual to start with things like hamsters, which don't live very long before getting a dog or cat. It teaches important lessons about loss, hopefully before they lose someone c!ose.
Load More Replies...Someone who had a change of circumstances that didn't allow them to keep their beloved pet -- a move to a nursing home, a move to a foreign country, death of the owner with no one able to take the animal -- in times like these, the shelter can be a refuge, and in this case the critter found someone new to love.

I can only say that things are SO much better now, and those family members that are still stuck with those outdated and intolerant ideas, screw them. I will be your mom.
Once you go dad, you can't come back. Are grandpa jokes the amplification of dad jokes?
As I got older, I began to interpret "Sweet Dreams" as being about S&M or darker ("Some of them want to abuse you/ Some of them want to be abused"), especially after Marilyn Manson's version. I found out not to long ago, however, that the song was written by Stewart to Lennox after they had spent their last dime getting to a gig only to find not a single person had braved bad weather to come. The refrain ("Hold your head up...") came from his determination to make it someday despite seemingly dismal odds. The abuse lines only refer to not being brought down by scummy music industry people.
I'm a writer with plans to publish this year, and this is quite reassuring 😅

I remember walking on a path in suburban DC and the most glorious double rainbow popped up from behind golden clouds, and all these natives (mostly exercise walkers) kept passing me, totally ignoring both it and me staring at the sky. I tried too many times to day, "look at that rainbow" because I couldn't believe I couldn't find one person interested. I know in my home, famous for jaded people, I could've gotten anyone who wasn't running late to stop and stare. That was one of several incidents that led me to conclude most of the DC population is utterly dead inside.
Load More Replies...Last year one time I was visiting my parents. They have a big walnut tree in there yard. A rainbow appeared. It looks like the tree is perfectly centered under the rainbow.
The last thing yelled at me from another car’s window was “Your left rear tire’s almost flat!” I would much rather have seen a rainbow.
I stopped on a road to look at 6 deer in a field. The person behind me honked and was wondering why I stopped in the middle of the block. I rolled down my window and pointed to the field. I started driving and he stayed there looking at the deer!
I also support this one guy who rolled down his window to shout "Your dog is beautiful." Because like yes she is she is my beautiful baby fluff face.

I've been trying to attract a crow friend for YEARS. No luck yet, but I've got 6 squirrel friends now.
That crow will watch over your child where ever he goes in town. They are fiercely loyal and protective. They will bring "Gifts" to exchange for food or water, or to show "affection". As CeeCee said yes gangs of crow can hunt you or protect you. Your child has unlocked a very unique human experience that I hope to experience myself one day. Xoxo
That is fabulous! Having a bird who knows you and brings you money is the best!
That kid has his own personal army now. Crows have been known to take revenge for those who feed them.
A '70's research project conducted with crows used Nixon masks to signify the "dangerous' people the crows should avoid; the crows learned.
Crows are actually pretty smart animals, they will always remember how a human treats them and treats them the same way back kinda like how cats bring dead mice and birds to their owners, as a token of appreciation
I don't know how they know, but researchers say cats bring their humans dead birds and rodents because they think we're not very bright, so they're helping to feed us.

I had a similar experience the last time I visited my grandmother in a nursing home. Her face absolutely lit up when she saw me. Her nurse asked, "Do you know who this is?" She replied, "No." But the huge smile stayed. She wasn't sure who I was, but she was positive that she was happy to see me.

My maternal Grandma lived to be 101...at her 100th birthday celebration, we sat together for the meal & cake.. As we chatted, she asked my name & how we knew each other...She politely acknowledged that she didn't remember my name, but said, "But, I do know that I love you" --- One of my most treasured memories of her. As a career nurse, with many of my years working memory care, this was a treasure...because I'd always encouraged families to rest assured, that their loved ones DO remember...just not always in the ways we'd expect.
My SIL's mother had Alzheimer's disease. She lost a lot of her memory for people, but, when asked who visited her, she'd always say, "S/he's family." It was always enough.

My mam has a similar mindset. Has never drove in her life, walks everywhere, and spends all of the holidays she has on her partners farm in the Lake District area of England. She's aways said, if the day comes that she can no longer walk, to just 'Put her down like a sick dog'.

He already had dementia by that time so he never really got to use them, but it still makes me smile to remember how he would jokinglly (and proudly) pull them out the drawer and offer them to me when I needed a pair, before passing me the righthanded pair. It took me way to long to realize that his weird habit of cutting wrapping paper with a pen knife (another memory I cherish) was because he didn't have a proper comfortable pair of scissors to use.
Yes and....why is 29 cents a barrier? I'm not going to dismiss the your person's actions, it's incredible. But the library system should be ashamed.
I can't believe some libraries still do that to kids. I remember when I was young, I got a 5-minute lecture from the librarian because I owed a week's worth of fines and how selfish and inconsiderate it was to keep a book that someone else might be waiting for. It was Peter Pan. The book was already more than 60 years old at the time, so it's not like I was hogging some hot bestseller.

Not giving free school lunch to kids is absurd! (Queue the person saying: if you pay for it with taxes its not free...)
I'll do you one better. There are republican politicians that deliberately and pointedly turned DOWN federal funding to get their kids free school meals, saying they didn't want to teach children relying on the government for handouts. Daily we are bombarded by bad news, acts of extreme violence; growth in the rate of poverty, etc. We are told our country (USA) is hopeless divided and hate is on the rise. I've spent over 30 years working with victims of abuse and trauma. I long, long ago removed my rose-colored glasses. Yet, I still believe most people are good and that given the opportunity, most of us will react with kindness and fairness. Seeing the good and not always the bad can empower all of us to act from a place of love and acceptance.
If only there were new pieces of good. This makes it seem like we have only 50 good things to recycle for years.
Load More Replies...Most of these are so old - too old. I know some people may not have seen them before but most of us have, many times.
I had to stop reading these were all so old. Bored panda has access to an entire internet and all they can do is recycle their same old material?
So many duplicate stories, even one triplicate! Still stamping BP logo on the unknowing "contributions" of other posters I see...
