Whether or not you agree that dogs are man's best friend, I hope we can at least agree that they're an endless source of wholesome and heartwarming moments.
These loyal and loving creatures bring joy not only to their owners but also everyone they pass as well. All it takes is a single enthusiastic tail wag or a quirky head tilt, and we're smiling like fools.
The fact that these precious animals can do that even on the toughest days — when negativity is at the forefront — is tough to beat.
So we at Bored Panda compiled a new list of pictures that capture dogs in all of their glory. Continue scrolling to check them out and when you're done, catch up on the series with our earlier publications here and here.

It's not just us at Bored Panda talking up dogs. The therapeutic value of our relationship with our pets, particularly K9s, is increasingly recognized by scientists too.
Cats can be wonderful as well – but dogs have been domesticated by humans for much longer, and, as even the most devoted cat lover will admit, dogs are far easier to train for companionship.

Marion Janner, a mental health campaigner and all-around animal lover, thinks that dogs teach us a whole range of lessons.
"Dogs love us unconditionally," she told The Guardian. "They’re the ultimate in equal opportunities – entirely indifferent to race, gender, star sign, CV, clothes size, or ability to throw cool moves on the dance floor."
"The simplicity and depth of this love is a continuous joy, along with the health benefits of daily walks and the social delights of chats with other dog walkers. They teach kids to be responsible, altruistic, and compassionate and, valuably but sadly, how to cope when someone you love dies."

On some level, the bond that forms between owner and pet is, it seems, similar to the bond that a mother forms with her baby.
According to academic and psychologist June McNicholas, pets can be a lifeline for socially isolated people. "Pet care and self-care are linked. When you take a dog out for a walk, people talk to you and that may be the only social contact an isolated person has the whole day ... People with disabilities often find that able-bodied people are socially awkward with them [but] if they have a dog it breaks down barriers and allows a more comfortable and natural interaction."

Author and researcher Meg Daley Olmert believes that when we call our dog, "our baby" it is because we recognize it on a neural level as such. And this recognition triggers the same maternal bonding brain networks that allow a mother to look at her red, slimy newborn and say, "mine!"

However, there were important differences too. Dogs caused activity in the fusiform gyrus (involved in facial recognition) and babies in the tegmentum (centers of reward and affiliation). To put it simply, while we love our pets, in a fire we'd try to save the baby first.

These creatures can find a way into everyone's heart. When the Centre for Mental Health ran an evaluation on therapy dogs in prisons, the feedback was off the scale. “I don't know what it is, but even when I am running around with [the dog] I just feel better inside, calmer, more peaceful," said one prisoner
Another told the interviewer that "Dogs have a magic effect on you, you can feel their love and that just makes you feel better inside you."

My Cat Passed Away A Couple Weeks Ago And My Dog Now Sleeps Next To His Bed And Stares At His Tower… Sometimes She Whines While Staring At It… Does She Miss Him? Or Am I Just Crazy? They Were Really Really Close
My cat ripped her hair out for a month after her momma doggo was put down. Yes they miss them a lot.
It's so true :( My German Shepherd and my cat were nearly the same age (a month apart) and I adopted them around the same time, so they grew up together and were absolutely best friends. My GSD died of breast cancer at age 12. My cat was devastated. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and kidney failure shortly after. Her conditions responded to treatment and she lived in pretty good health until she was a month shy of her 20th birthday, but she was honestly never the same after her "sister" died.
Load More Replies...My vet told me it's very important for a pet to be able to say goodbye to a beloved human or pet so they can understand that they've passed and not simply left.
I learned the hard way that you should bring home the passed pet so that their friends know what's happened. I lost Riley at 14 and her best friend Squeaky P has never been the same (also became diabetic from no more playing). When TJ died at 18, I brought him home and let Squeaky grieve with me. He handled his loss so much better this time. Squeaky-TJ...d43ef1.jpg
That's so sad and difficult but you're right and it brings them some form of closure. Better than their friend and companion just being gone one day.
Load More Replies...I had the vet come home to me when it was the time for my oldest cat. My other cats were able to sniff her and understand what had happened. So much better than having them searching and miaoing all over the neighbourhood for weeks
We got our second dog after seeing how much the cats were missing our first after she crossed. Yes, she is missing him.
Always bring home the deceased pet with you so the other pets can say goodbye. That last moment is very important, many pets will start looking for their missing friend otherwise.
This is such a heartbreaking subject.. I don't know if I would be able to bring one of our pups home so the other one could see them, after passing... I'm tearing up just thinking about it 🥺
Load More Replies...My dog was depressed after my parents died. It was so heartbreaking seeing him sit on the couch where my mom used to sit just staring out the window. Bith left in ambulances and he watched as they drove away. He barely ate and wasn't active. We got him a brother and it brought our old boy back. That was two years ago and he still occasionally stares out the window but doesn't look as sad anymore
My dog had a habit of lying on the floor at my feet with her head lying across my feet. When she passed, my cat came that evening and laid with her head resting on my feet for the first time ever. She understood Missy was gone from us.
You're not crazy. My dog had to be euthanasized due to cancer. My cat searched and cried for weeks and even refused to eat. It was heartbreaking. I adopted him a feline friend a month later because I wasn't emotionally ready for another dog and they are inseparable.
Oh yeah, they grieve. My little boy didn't get out of bed for two weeks after our old girl passed away. There was a cloud over everyone in the house during that time.
Poor thing. And yes, they do miss the other pets when they're gone. Anyone who says otherwise is just not paying attention.
My neighbor had two great danes. when the first died, the other was devastated. he died a few weeks later even though he was in perfect health up until then, while the other hd been sick before she died. so yes, she misses him.
Yes, animals grieve. My two cats grieved the third for a week after the third died.
Yes, you're dog probably does miss the cat! They've been together for years.
She misses him. Our first dog Maya adored our first cat Loki, and he was sort of indifferent to her until just hecpassed away. He became a little affectionate with her. She knew when he was gone. We could tell. Same with all the fosters my sister and I have had. When the older one goes, the younger one is out if sorts for a bit. Their scent is still there for a long time, so it must remind them.
Animals have a huge capacity for emotion. Elephants and primates are known for grieving. Even crows have "funerals" or gatherings when one of their group passes
I have a cat and dog, both 2 years old, and I am absolutely dreading the day one of them goes and the other is left without them 🥺
OH YES, they miss them. A pitbull I used to babysit for grieved himself to death. Coolest dog ever.
My cat, Midnite, sat under my grandfather's chair for weeks after he died.
My mom and dad had a dog named Pepper. I had to give up my cat, Morris, because of where I was moving. My parents took him in. He was the best cat. He never felt like it was his home too until my parents moved. They placed them face to face in their carriers and then let them out together. Morris was home! Best buds and conspirators. Morris got sick (I think it was kidney failure) and just laid on the floor at the foot of dads bed. Pepper would go check on him frequently. When Morris died, she was actually ok. I think there was some sort of communication going on there that we humans don’t understand. When dad died, one would think Pepper would be devastated. Mom took her on her lap and explained that daddy isn’t coming home. It was a sweet little talk. She looked right at mom the entire time. You know what? Pepper was ok.
Our golden retriever always played with our cat both inside and out and when we lost her, the dog was depressed for weeks if not months. They were the best of friends.
My one kitty meowed all the time and kept looking for her buddy. She missed him. Got another kitty...he kept trying to play with my little old lady lol. She was happy to not be alone, as long as he left her alone.
I wish my dog and cat were close like this, alas, my dog is just too energetic for the cat.
She's pining for her friend. Whenever one of my cats died, I made sure to spend extra time with the survivors to ease them through their grief. You may have to consider getting your dog another companion.
The cat was probably visiting when the dog whined. When one of my cats passed, his twin brother would engage with something I couldn't see.
We lost one of a bonded pair in 2015. His best friend still only drinks from the water dish that buddy loved. And sleeps on his favorite blanket, refusing any other sleeping bed than an occasional nap in a box.
When my Binx cat was in the hospital for a month, my dogs and his cat brother would look all over my house for him. They would all cry and whine and look and look. It broke my heart each day as I waited for any news of Binx. Binx is home and has been healthy and happy in the year since his surgery. The crew is all back together again.
My cat, Coco, mourned for months when her cat brother, Tiggee, passes. It was heart wrenching.
Many years ago, when my ex stole my cat, my previous rottie ran around crying and looking under furniture for weeks. It broke my heart.
anyone that says dogs and cats dont or cant feel emotions I beg to differ, I have had dogs that I had to hold and comfort when one of them passed, I have seen them be depressed and I have also seen absolute joy and unconditional love
Our neighbor's cat came to our front door about 4-5 days after Max crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She'd never done that before. We had the door open, and she put her front paws inside the door. We told her Max was gone, and she left after a few seconds. I think she missed him even though he'd stick his nose in her butt.
We (dog and I the Mamma) had to go outside every morning at 4 am to "look" for Abner the cat for over month. Because the doggo didn't know where his big brother was.
All animals grieve. My rabbit was depressed after her brother died. She wouldn't come out from under the coffee table for a long time.
Yes, she misses him. That companionship is no longer there. There's an empty spot where his cat used to be.
Our neighbors dog was best buds with our dog. When our dog died the neighbors dog snuck into our house to search for him. He laid on his grave.
she very much misses her BFF and is grieving... I suggest a new cat/kitten soon... time for new bonding time.
After my older female dog died, my younger male would run all around our property for 5 minutes, looking for her, every time I let him out.
there is a bond that has disappeared and yes,the dog will really miss his friend.
My dog insisted that 'we' me and him get up at 4 am to look for his big brother the cat who had passed away in his sleep. After a month the dog realized Abner was gone.
Yes, they miss them. We had a bonded dog & cat. After our dog died our cat quickly went downhill. He passed 9 months later. He literally grieved himself to death. They were such a special set of babies.
She really misses her cat friend. As my pets got older and passed away I had to show the survivors the remains before they would stop looking for the departed. Seems like it couldn't be possible but they missed each other after having gotten so used to living together.
There is no doubt in my mind that animals grieve just as much as humans.
She definitely misses him. I had a dog that missed his cat. He was so happy when we got a new kitten. He licked him till he was wet . Always slept together.
Our dogs were a year apart, and grew up together. Rachael (the older one) had been having more seizures, and my husband and I were having to talk about making the difficult choice. We knew it would be for the best, but it was also hard for us to fully accept it. A few days later Rachael, made the choice for us 💔 We both mourned her and pet and kissed her goodbye. We let Orion (the younger one), have time with her as well. Later hubs and I both discovered that we each told Rachael that it was ok to go if she needed to, we understood, and we would do that for her asap (we were having money troubles then). I had said to hubs, I guess she really heard me telling her that it was okay to go. And my husband was floored that we had both said it to her and didn't know there other had. We rented an apartment so we couldn't bury her in our yard but we buried her in my mother in law's backyard, whom Rachael also adored. Wrapped her in her favorite "blanket" (it was fabric I had to make fluffy
She is definitely remembering him and mourning his loss. When my rabbit passed away, my dog sat by the empty place where the cage had been and whining. She even had a nightmare and when she woke up she looked at the empty spot again and cried. I held her and cried too. She still gets upset when she hears the word "bunny".
I always bring home passed pets. I leave them out where everyone in the house can say hi/bye and find that the ones left behind don't mourn as hard. had a horse we had to put down in the field once. the yrling that was befriended by him the day he got here was confused. he was a few yrs old at the time so he had grown quite attached to this old boy. He sniffed him over a few times, then decided to nip at his heels to make him get up. his nips would have taken our fingers, not gentle at all. after a few times trying this he walked off. he came and sniffed him through out the day then he left him alone. he was buried in the field and the horses were fine with his being gone. animals grieve. what we call defensive in a new animal mother we call love in a human one. same thing only they show it differently.
The day my dog (a 7 yo rottie) passes away... I don't know who will be the most heartbroken. Me? Or my cat (2 yo bengal who's literally in love with him)
My cat cried for a week after my doggie was killed. I cried for 2 weeks.
Yes animal experience loss just as we do. We lost a family dog to old age he was 16. Lived a long life 2 weeks later his mate passed from sadness she was only 5 years old. So yes he misses your cat. Time for a new kitten.
No you're not crazy. Animals have feeling and show love to eachother & us all the time. Yes she misses the cat.

That looks like a Great Dane <3 my parents had a Dane when I was born. I am told that she was my guardian and protector. I apparently rode her like a pony often, would toddle around the yard while gripping her tail, etc. and she put up with all my shenanigans patiently. My parents told me that one day I escaped the house and went right over to the pool. I stepped into the water on the first step, and Chashu was there in a flash and pulled me out of the water before I could fall in/get in over my head. Danes are the best!
