One of the first things you get to know when meeting a new person is their name. Although a name is just like a label that doesn’t actually mean anything or say much about them as a person, certain bad names for boys sound truly weird and have unpleasant connotations.
People can’t wrap their heads around parents still choosing those weird or rare names for boys and girls. Of course, they want their child to be one of a kind, but in reality, unique, strange, and unusually spelled names may cause confusion and inconvenience to the name holder.
If you would like to know which strange boys’ names people would like to see forgotten, then this list is for you. They are the collection of worst names for boys from the thread created by SpiritualNut.
Along with strange names for boys, the list also contains a few R-rated bad boys’ names. So, ensure you don’t read this list in front of minors. Without further ado, let’s check out these awful names!

Ld
I have a great uncle who’s full name is LD. Those aren’t his initials. That’s his full name. When he was trying to get a social security card he wrote LD and they sent it back saying no initials. So he wrote “L Only, D Only.” They sent him a card that said “Lonly Donly.”
"LD" was not an uncommon boy's name in the early 20th century. My quick search found over 500 men with that name and several stories of receiving documents with their names as "Lonly Donly."
I truly have no respect for parents that torture their children with stupid names.
Unfortunately enslaved people's were only given initials for names. If you see a name that is initials, be respectful. More than likely they had enslaved family members they were named after.
Load More Replies...A friend got some sort of paperwork from the government as (not real name) John Nmi Smith. He had no middle name. NMI = no middle initial. He was forever called NeeMee. 😊
My wife, who has no middle name, is on some mailing lists (snail mail, not E-mail) with "NMI" between the first and last names.
Load More Replies...OP might be joking but my great uncle’s folks wanted to name him LD but the hospital/birth certificate people wouldn’t approve it. So legally he was Lyle Duke-no one ever called him that in real life though. I’d literally never heard anyone else called that before!
Load More Replies...Jonly Bonly Stewart! Funny as all hell! (What's That Clickin' Noise?")
Load More Replies...Comedian has a skit with J-Only B-Only. Jonly Bonly is hilarious.
My grandpa's full name was Donald D James. He was going to be donald dean, but his mom unexpectedly had twins so she named the other one dean. She didnt want to come up with new middle names for the two boys, so they each got a letter instead. There was a period of time where my grandpa was getting mail for Donald Donly James for the same reason as this story
Adolf
Well that one guy kinda ruined Adolf
Ruined Adolf? He ruined all the Dolfs! ..........I'll uh, show myself the door.
I know a couple elderly Adolfs, it was quite a common name in our area, especially during /after WW2.
My uncle (by marriage - my mom's sister's husband) is named Adolph. He's in his early 60s, so not elderly. His German parents knew full well what they were doing. He's always gone by another name, because well, Adolph.
Load More Replies...OK, folks. Please use /s when you’re kidding. Too many nasty trolls who aren’t kidding, and it’ll help you keep from being banned, or at least from having to put up with harsh comments. Deal?
IDK. I kinda think that mustache ruined that mustache style...
Load More Replies...Had a classmate, his second name was Adolf (after his grandfather...) that was in Germany in the 1980s
Adolf is the German equivalent of Edward. So yeah, when you wreck a name as common as Edward, you're the absolute worst.
I had a patient who so many stupid co-workers of mine criticize for having that name. He was born in 1918. That name hadn't become a curse yet.
X Ae A-XII
X Ae A-Xii
Leave it to celebs to name their children weirdly. Shannyn Sossamon named her boy Audio science.
To be fair, someone named her Shannyn Sossamon...
Load More Replies...To be fair to Elon, I too allowed my cat to walk across my computer keyboard, which is why my son is named asdkaslpdasp][s[sa]szzcjcjadcsawq2eor09i2u49024uorw. We pronounce it "Greg".
Apparently the name is pronounced as X Ash A twelve. They just call him Ash.
When your father (at least, maybe your mom too) is a narcissist. It's all about ELON
Lartholomew
Knew two twins, Barry and Larry, which was a bit too cliché already. However, after figuring out their full names were Bartholomew and f*****g *Lartholomew*, it was pretty clear the second one was a surprise and they really didn't have a name ready.
Honourable mention for a Dutch couple I knew, Richard and Willianne, who chose to go by D**k & W***y de C**k.
Bartholomew is a bad name already, but LARTHOLEMEW!?!?!?!? watch these parents then wonder why their children are getting bullied.
And also isnt the nickname for Bartholomew "Bart", not Barry?????
Load More Replies...My dad is one of 39 children (yay, polygamy) he has siblings from one of his moms named Garry, Larry, Terry, Barry, and a sister named Mary, and a brother younger than Mary named Jeff.
I bet Jeff feels a bit isolated from his siblings… 🤔
Load More Replies...I used to know a guy whose legal name was Willie D**k. No, not William. F*in WILLIE. I am not even joking. The first time I saw it I was 100% certain it was like the WORST fake ID ever. Until I realized it was his university ID and nobody would bother to fake that.
I thought someone was joking when they called the call center I was working for years ago. Gay Gaylord, it's his real name...
Load More Replies...In the Netherlands D.ick is not a short for Richard.... D.ick or Dik or Dirk are full names.
I think a whale would be unhappy that it was named ‘Moby D**k’ too, right :D
Load More Replies...D*ck and who? Wendy? I can't figure out the Dutch woman's name.
Did they have elder brothers called Juan A, B and C?
Load More Replies...I work recording deeds for houses and some of the names I see are just insane. Today I had Michael Kok and Faith Kok, husband and wife. If I were Michael, I'd haven taken my wife's last name just to stop being called Mike Kok 😳
Kevin
I gotta say Kevin.
Sorry to all Kevins, but as a German married to an Aussie, this name is tough. To my husband it's a completely normal boys' name, and when we discussed names for our firstborn, I had to explain to him that "Kevin" is completely off the charts because in Germany it's used as an insult.
I think I've heard of scientific studies that have proven that teachers expect less from a boy who's called Kevin, compared to other boys' names. Prejudice is strong about that one. There's a couple of others, but Kevin's like the "godfather of unusable names" in Germany.
What about Adolf? Isn't that the most taboo name in Germany? I'd rather be Kevin in Germany than Adolf tbh.
Adolf is sure a taboo, but you can't insult someone as an Adolf (unless you think they're a Nazi and try to be spiteful). A Kevin is just an incompetent idiot.
Load More Replies...The female pendant to Kevin in Germany is Chantal. Because these two names were / are often chosen by... lower class families. And by lower class I don't refer just to their financial status, but rather to their behaviour.
Nah, 'Karen' implies much more aggression than 'Kevin'. 'Kevin' - as the insult - is more known for the implied stupidity.
Load More Replies...That's so weird; I've never known a Kevin that wasn't an all around good guy...
Possibly. My gf is Polish and she calls the film Kevin.
Load More Replies...This is not the case in the USA and Ireland from my experience. My son is Kevin and is graduating college early with honors as well as being an outstanding athlete. I guess he broke the "low expectation" stigma of the name.😊 The name actually means "handsome".
College? Well maybe in Bremen also... (okay, this was a nasty insider joke)
Load More Replies...Michael Hunt
I worked with a guy named Michael Hunt. He INSISTED we call him Michael. Entertained me to no end.
My wife had a lecturer at university called Richard Head. He was a bit of a D**k.
Had a teacher in school name that. Needless to say, he did not go by the common short version.
Load More Replies...Sorry you got downvoted. Basically, people often say "Mike" instead of Michael, and when you combine that with the last name Hunt, you get "Mike Hunt", which sounds silly when spoken out loud ("my c*t")
Load More Replies...When I started a job, they introduced me to one of my teammates as 'James'. So later, I called him Jim without thinking. (I should have asked) and someone took me aside and said he goes only by James and then it hit me what his last name was. If you guessed Jones, you're right on the money.
Jackson
Teacher here. Jacksons are a******s almost 90% of the time. Don’t get me started on Aiden, Ayden, Aden, Caiden and Brayden etc…
::hugs:: :( it's okay, I was named after a chandelier!
Load More Replies...I know a woman who has a daughter named "mayghynn" like Megan but just spelled extremely obnoxiously
Can't stand that. Had a nice cashier couple days ago her name tag said Needy. I said Thanks Needy with a question inflection. She said it's Nedy. Her parents didn't think that would happen 100% of the time???! They should be sued LOL! Dumb
Load More Replies...Two boys' names that seem to be popular at my school are Jackson and Carter. We have Drama Jackson, Math teachers son Jackson, Tall Jackson, and Small Jackson, and then Choir Carter, Cello Carter and Idiot Carter
We were pregnant in 2002, when Aidan was 300 on the baby name list and Utah moms hadn't made up the rhyming names yet. I had my Aidan in June of 2003, loved that his name was Celtic and meant little fire. Found out at the end of the year his name had shot to the top of the list. Poor kid is just as commonly named as his brother Mike, at least among his generation
There are 6 Aidans in my freshman class, all spell their names differently
Let me try.... Aiden, Aidan, Ayden, Aydan, Aighden, Aighdan I tried
Load More Replies...Drayden, Fayden, Gayden, Hayden, Jayden, Kayden, Layden, Payden, Rayden, Zayden
I was literally just thinking of the "ayden" trend, gets on my nerves lol
I briefly filled in as a substitute teacher. The first class I taught had a Haley, a Hailey, a Halley, and a Haleigh (not kidding).
I have a niece named Hailey. My girls (Lillian and Jillian -named by their birt mother, not me) call her Hailian, which ends up sounding more like H.e.llian.
Load More Replies...The AIden thing always amuses me, because long ago my mom had a friend who could be exceptionally pretentious, about many things, including her children's names. She would go on and on about how much she wanted her kids to have distinguished but UNCOMMON names. She named her youngest Aiden in about 1996.
Hardik
Here in India, kids are named Hardik. Now imagine he goes to an English speaking country and how his name will be pronounced
You can’t name a person just on what their name will sound like in a foreign country. You name someone for what their name sounds like in your own country.
Not all the languages, but maybe check the most obvious ones. Like English. In a partially English speaking country like India, I'd think that's not unnecessary.
Load More Replies...This is a tough one because it could never matter or be a huge hassel and you dont reallywant to go by possibilities. That said, my friend Thitiporn wishes her parents had chosen another name; she uses a completely different name to avoid any comments
There’s NO WAY her name is Thitiporn; PLEASE tell me you’re joking
Load More Replies...To the uninitiated, "Hardik" means Auspicious. Just like "August" means holy.
True story, I work in automotive manufacturing and one of our automated cells produces 'Rear Inner' right side & left side parts for a specific vehicle. I'm 48 and still bust a gut when Hardik(tech) is paged to the line. "Can I get Hardik (to) right inner rear please, Hardik come (to) right inner rear please, thank you" I'll see myself out, I already know the way.
Disclaimer, before I get down voted, Hardik is a fantastic guy and is by no means offended. He comes up with quite a few good ones himself, which he always follows up by saying, "Please don't send me to HR ...again" Lol
Load More Replies...Hardik Pandya plays cricket for India. It had never occurred to me until today that his name could be so unamusingly mispronounced.
As an uneducated American, how is it pronounced?
Load More Replies...Better than ‘Dikshit’, which I’ve seen a few times. No good way of shortening it either :s
To put some context to this post: In Hardik, Dik means direction and Har dik means victor of all directions ie A Conqueror. But Hardik became a real problem name, as there is a famous cricket player who himself said in an infamous interview how he used his name to pick up women. "My name is Hardik because I'm a Hardik". Some how he is still in the team and made captain as well. So people will be cautious in naming their child Hardik in the future.
Nah, hardik means 'from heart'. 'Hardya' here comes from 'Hridoy' or 'Hridi', which means the heart in sanskrit. Another related word is 'Souhardya' which means friendship.
Load More Replies...I have known a few guys named Hardik, and I live in the US. English isn't my first language, but I honestly never made a connection to anything vulgar until now, when I really had to think about it.
Lamie
Met a guy on a dating app named Lamie. Like Jamie but with an L.
My great-grandmother's name was Laime! She was the only person I had ever heard of with that name...until now.
Probably Latvian or Lithuanian descent. Means "happiness" in Latvian :)
Load More Replies...Lamia, in ancient Greek mythology, was a child-eating monster and, in later tradition, was regarded as a type of night-haunting spirit. In other words: the opposite of lame.
My great-grandmother was named "Lubbigjen", but everyone called her "Lummie" (For reference, I'm Dutch.)
Lummie, Lammie, Lammegie... names that were and sometimes still are quite common in the northern part of the Netherlands, just like Zus (translated: Sister) is common in Limburg 😁
Load More Replies...I was watching one of these British mini-series on-line the psychopath's name was unusual. One sick chick murderer. While I was watching this my daughter was doing some family tree stuff & discovered the one part of the family had someone with the identical strange name. The first name was Halitha. But this was the entire name was identical.
Trebor
Trebor. Not a typo. Apparently this kids dad n grandad where named Robert. So they decided to just name him Robert backwards 🤔
I don't need to name your son after his father? For me this would make me feel like I was living in a big bloody shadow!
I'm named after my father, and am forever known as "little Dave" even though I am bigger than him...
Load More Replies...I know a guy named Trebor! I thought it was a nickname for a long time... nope!
Billiam
I went to school with somebody named Billiam
My niece used to come home from preschool talking about her friend Nafaniel often. We used to correct her and have her pronounce it Nathaniel (emphasis on the TH and not pronouncing it like an F) because it is respectful and polite, etc. Then she told us one day that she and Nafaniel were getting married. We corrected her again and told her to call her future husband Nathaniel. Then one day my SIL called me laughing her head off because she had to use the class phone tree and each child is listed with their parent's name and phone number, and the child's name is actually Nafaniel.
"Ya got a speech impediment, boy?" "No, my dad did and the guy filling out the birth certificate was an a*s."
Load More Replies...Wait, i already say that name, but in a sketch. He was like a ridiculous aristocrat and was named Sir Billiam.
TRIVANTA, WHY DID YOU CREATE HUMANS?! WHY?!!! THEY SCREWED UP THE NAME WILLIAM!!
Unique, pronounceable, and possibly meaningful -like a family with all b-names. I see no issues here
Bushrod And Balzer
Two of the worst real names I've seen - Bushrod and Balzer
Those aren’t real names. They are random collections of letters. I think their parents may have been in possession of a dyslexic ouija board.
Bushrod and Balzer sound like the names of comical evil sidekicks that are always blamed for the failure of the over-elaborate scheme to defeat Alabaster Bland, a generic cartoon show designed by marketing interns. No one will remember anything about this show in a couple of years, but maybe someone will have the action figures of Bushrod and Balzer and be able to hum the theme song.
Hampy
Going through a family tree project, I found out my great great uncle was named Hampy.
So.... Hampy.
Haven’t found any particularly odd names in my fam tree. I kind of wish I would, as my dad ‘s family is impossible to trace thanks to more than 5 generations the same 12 names repeated over and over by every member of the family who had kids. I think at one point there had to be like 12 Williams, 6 Betty, at least 8 Edwards, and so on living at the same time. Bet those family reunions were great.
For over 100 years, it was tradition in my family to name the first born girl Selina. Grandma opted out of that, and my dad refused to do so. If I HAD gotten that name, I'd have been the 4th one alive at the time, and a second cousin would have become #5. By the time she was born, there were only 1 elderly one and her own mother. Glad my dad put his foot down!
There was some poor little kid adopted from china and they changed his name to HUXLEY! They had 4 super blonde bio kids and then monetized their “Our journey through adoption” or some sh*t blog for approximately 4 years then the kid just vanished and they carried on their family blog like he never existe.Their followers had to push for days to find out where he went…..they REHOMED him! They claimed that while they were told he had autism his challenges were FAR greater and he became a “danger” to their other real kids. He was barely 4… they took him from his country, exploited him for profit and then dumped him in a foster home when he wasn’t as cute or easily managed. WORST f*ck*ng people.
Elmo And Hardass
I have two and I've encountered both in the wild.
Elmo - the guy's full name was "Elmo J. Faggins". His parents are ...I don't even want to think about it. This name was just - mean and cruel. I felt sorry for the guy. I could only imagine how much grief he got in school. Not sure if he is still alive or not. This was many years ago.
Hardass - a kid who was a victim of a mother who used drugs while pregnant with him. Thankfully the boy was removed from her care (if you want to call it care) and adopted by a wonderful couple who live near me. They had his name changed, new ssn and everything to prevent his mom from causing any more harm. That woman is a piece of work.
Well, Elmo was a regular name until that red kid was such a big star. Kinda ruined it.
Just like Bert, Ernie, Oscar and Kermit
Load More Replies...Ever heard of st Elmo's fire? It is a weather thing. Nothing to do with the Sesame character. I also know an Elmo - nice guy.
The original St. Elmo is the patron saint of sailors, after whom St. Elmo's fire is named. The phenomenon, which can warn of an imminent lightning strike, was regarded by sailors with awe and sometimes considered to be a good omen.
Load More Replies...The place that i volunteer at is run by a guy named Elmo. He's a big black dude, i did a double take when he told me his name.
Boy howdy, do I have news for you about Elmo's original voice actor!
Load More Replies...I'm more distracted by the image of that Elmo statue..... stripping? Flashing?
flashing I think? ... It's just random words, like thug life and Happy birthday
Load More Replies...and honestly that's the first thing i thought of with that lol
Load More Replies...We have a local councillor called Geraldine Philomena Coggins. I mean it's unique, but I do feel sorry for her.
Ahmahndah
Any normal name spelled in a "unique" way to help it stand out. Ahmahndah instead of Amanda comes to mind. Unless there's some places with a different culture where this is considered a normal spelling, but if both of your parents are Anglo in heritage, and they chose this as your name, I'm sorry, it doesn't make you seem "unique" and I feel like it will have ramifications when applying for jobs.
These poor kids will never find a personalized souvenir. Source: a kid named Destiny in the early 2000's.
More like unic...as in castrated ball sackless one
Load More Replies...It does have ramifications while applying for jobs. Very few want their company to have an employee listed with a misspelled name.
I really don't know why it's such a huge pet peeve of mine, but I HATE stupid and weird spellings of normal names.
People need to just stop with these crazy spellings - it’s stupid.
Harry Weiner
My mom knew a kid named Harry Weiner.
I went to school with a kid named Will Dye, not William, Will. Wonder what happened to him...
I already posted about this, but there's a Gynecologist in my area named Dr. Harry Beavers. I'm not kidding either. Apparently he was destined for his job. :)
Dr Harry Beaver (not Beavers) has retired. I saw his name on by birth certificate & asked my mom about him. "Dr Beaver was an excellent doctor!" She just didn't understand, and as her daughter I was not about to explain further.
Load More Replies...You actually pronounce the name "Wine-er". Not "Whee-ner" like "Wiener". Learn your german, damnit. Like Wolfenstein ... say Wolfen-stine, not Wolfensteen
“It’s pronounced Fronkensteen!” - Dr. Frederick Frankenstein
Load More Replies...It's only in America that Wiener is misused in that (implied) way. Otherwise it just means something or someone from Vienna. And if anyone's hearing harry as hairy, then I'm sorry, but just grow up.
There is a doctor nearby named Seymour Weiner. I kid you not, look it up. He’s a Urologist.
Jaxon Or Jaxson
The name Jackson is fine but I hate when people spell it Jaxon or Jaxson. It makes me cringe so hard for some reason
There was a kid in my elementary school named Jaxon. He went by Jax.
Jaxom, the Lord Holder of Ruatha on Pern, and his white dragon, Ruth! /nerd moment
I had 3 kids in my 7th grade class all named Jackson. Jackson P, Jackson H, and Jaxon. They were all really annoying...
Same. I really don't know why, but these "unique" spellings of perfectly normal names drive me absolutely nuts.
I worked at a maternity clinic until about 6 years ago. I remember in one day, 7 mom-to-be told me they were going to name their sons "Jackson, but spelled with an x, to be different ". It was hilarious, and I didn't have the heart to tell them.
There's a hot Aussie stripper name Jaxon. The name suits him just fine
Caillou
Caillou. I hate that kid
in just a f*****g kid and i got a big a*s head im always crying im caillouuuuu
Agreed. I want to throat jab them :/ edit: funny how that got me a downvote... Sarcasm anyone?
Load More Replies...Do people not look up these names before they name their child? (It means pebble in French). A girl in my class was called Minou. Her parents probably watched that French film called "Minoes", and thought it was cute. It's about a cat who shapeshifts into a pretty young woman. The name, however, literally means pussy.
That film is actually Dutch. I don't know about Minou in French, but in Dutch the name "Minoes" has no specific meaning or connotation. It's just a name people give to their cats.
Load More Replies...Worst. Cartoon. Ever. Great, teach my kid to be a jerk. Thanks Caillou
Nimrod
My late husband's great uncle's name was Nimrod. Literally on the mf's birth certificate any everything. So. Nimrod.
Nimrod was the name of a philosopher I’m pretty sure, and then Bugs Bunny used it sarcastically in Looney Tunes and so it became an insult
I think there was a Nimrod in the bible as well!
Load More Replies...I wonder if they know that Nimrod is a hebrew name that means something along the linea of he rebels.
As everyone seems to also know that Nimrod is in the bible and it means great hunter. My familiarity with the name is from the X-Men comics. Nimrod was a Sentinel hunter robot sent from the distant future (basically now) to hunt mutants in the year 1984. Wow. I am in the dystopian future my comic books warned me about. Also, Bugs Bunny disparaged a lot of biblical names. Not sure what to make out of those facts but I should focus on happier thoughts.
I lived on a street called Nimrod for my entire life until recently. Always had to convince people it was a real address and I wasn't calling THEM a nimrod.
Laberboi (Lover Boy)
My friend was a nurse, she said some parent named her kid Laberboi (Lover boy)
In German ,labern' is a verb. It's used negatively and means talking a lot without coming to the point. Used in a compound the final ,n' (laberN) would disappear. So Laberboi is actually Babbleboi :)
People get upset at me because I don't beat around the bush but come straight to the point. Mostly those at work and one of my brothers. I don't have time for that.
Load More Replies...BUT if mom was trying to call him Lover boy wouldn't she spell it LOVERBOI? WTF is with the LABER part? It makes me think of the word labia :(
Loverboy is a name for a young man who tries to get young girls into the s*x industrie. It is very negative name because of what loverboys do.
Prince
Prince, I dont know why, but they all think that they're actors or something
Everyone including dogs should come out with a "mock-u-mrntory" about how bad their family treated them and how terrible their life is in their multi million dollar mansion.
Load More Replies...there should only ever have been one prince. nobody else can live up to that name, so every other "prince needs to change their name - NOW.
They should! Then they'll be "The child formerly known as Prince!"
Load More Replies...Well, there's Rex and Regina. Earl and Baron are common male first names.
Load More Replies...That "crown" or circlet or whatever the hell you want to call it is 100% made out of a saw blade.
I met a Prince Adbdullah. I bowed & said it I was honored to meet him. "Maaan, get outta here, I'm not royalty, I just have weird parents?.
Guy
‘Guy’ just feels kinda lazy
Guy Fieri, Guy Fawkes, Guybrush Threepwood, Guy Pearce... The slang "guy" actually originated from Guy Fawkes, so it was a name before it was slang. Also found out that is the Norman French analog of the Italian name Guido.
Yup. After Guy Fawkes, the British made a tradition of burning effigies of Fawkes every year (bonfire, anyone?). These stand-ins were referred to as 'Guys', and that's how it became a generic slang term.
Load More Replies...Unless you're French in which case it's perfectly normal and not at all lazy
And confusing if it's supposed to be pronounced the French way, like Gee.
My sister in law knew a couple whose last name was Guy. They named their baby boy Tuff.
Guy Gibson? Lead 617 Sqn during the Second World War and bombed the dams in Germany? Guy Martin? Biker, mechanic, TV presenter and all-round good guy? Guy is a fairly common name.
I had two art teachers who were brother and sister; when she was annoyed with him she used to call him Guy which was puzzling as his name was David. When I was in the 6th form, if I timed it right, she’d drive past my bus stop and give me a lift to school so one day I asked her, “Why do you call him Guy?” “Because his birthday is November 5th”
Blade And Chevy
Literally know a kid named Blade. Also, another couple named their son Chevy. Should have just named him Budweiser and gotten it over with if you ask me.
Lmao i had dogs by both names tho Chevy was like Chevy Chase not the car.
Chevy after the car his father had to give up opon due to the fatherhood expences!
Vanden And Brecken
One of my cousin's named his kids Vanden and Brecken. I've always hated those names.
These don't seem so bad. I know there's a lot of hate out there for clever, original name's, but seriously, how many Roberts, Amandas, Williams, Daniels..... do we really need?
In Dutch, the name Vanden would be especially odd since there are a lot of last names with the words "van den" in it. Like your name could be "Vanden van den Berg" or something
I knew a kid named Brecken. His dad had him withdrawn from university because he got in trouble all the time with a kid who ended up getting expelled.
Arminas
There is a lithuanian name Arminas whey you say it it sounds like arm in a** yeh not a good name
This one isn’t too bad, I mean it’s a name from a different country where they speak a different language, so it’s not like it would sound bad in their language
I mean, you could pronounce it something like 'Ar-mee-nas' and it's not too bad
But only in your f.... country. In his own it is no problem, in mine it is no problem, perhaps you shouldn't think the whole world revolves around english speaking USA.
at least you didn’t insult Armin (from attack on titan) i love him
All Lithuanian male names must end with and "S" and endings are -as, -ius, -is. It's Armin in Lithuanian. They can use English version Armin, or short Lithuanian version Armis. My son's name Emilis, and in the US we use Emil.
I actually think it's a lovely name BUT I'm also thinking it would be pronounced...Ar-mee-nass. Wrong?
nope. "i" is pronounced short in Lithuanian, as an "in". It's more like Arm-in-us
Load More Replies...Ashley And Kaiser
I grew up with a guy named Ashley. Whenever he’d get called out of class by the front office over the intercom, they’d give him female pronouns.
Also, I know someone who named their son Kaiser. I have a lot of questions about that choice, but I’ve never asked them because I probably don’t want to know the answers.
A friend in school was given Kaiser as a nickname because his mother was German. Kids are awful creatures.
Well, it's the highest position in a monarchy, so ....
Load More Replies...Ashley will always remind me of Gone With the Wind when used as a male name.
Yup, can't hear "Oh Ashley!" Without it being in Scarlett's voice!
Load More Replies...Ashley can be a male or female name; the only differential is an alternative spelling as Ashleigh.
I grew up in Southern Illinois in the 70's and 80's and there were four boys around my age named Ashley. I had never heard of Ashley as a girl's name until I was in college.
I had a friend whose background is German call his son Kiaser as a nickname. He said it meant King. It unnerved me to hear it as my family background is Jewish. Google translate says it means Emperor so who knows.
It has nothing to do with Jews or German. Kaiser is just the German word for emperor.
Load More Replies...Hogarth
Hogarth. It just feels gross to say.
It's a genuine surname. But I suppose anything starting with Ho is going to be problematic
D**k
D**k, I don't get how someone names their son d**k!
It’s a diminutive for Richard. For years now whenever I’m in polite company, if someone’s acting like a nasty jerk, I always say they’re being a real Richard.
Forget which book, but there's a Jane Austen out there with a character named Richard who was "entitled to nothing more than a shortening of his name", if I remember rightly lol.
Load More Replies...When I lived in New Hampshire, we had a Congressman named D**k Swett. Perfect name for a Republican if you ask me...
I work with a guy who has D**k for his last name, the furthest thing from one. He's super sweet
It was a shortened form of Richard long before it was a vulgar term for a male body part
Gary
Apparently Gary is so bad that it’s a dying name, and no one has named their kid Gary in a few years.
Well; I thought this name would be revived since Spongebob has a cat named Gary.
Nothing like naming your kid after the most boring city in the Midwest
Load More Replies...Gary is short for Gerald. My FIL was named Gérald and my youngest son's surnames is Gérald. Edit: I don't see anything wrong with either names.
Not usually. Gary is generally a stand-alone name. Gerry is the nickname for Gerald, at least in the US.
Load More Replies...Definitely going down in popularity. According to the SSA baby names database, it was the 275th most popular baby name in 2000, 904th in 2021. It was in the top 100 from 1933-87
Aww, don't hate on the name Gary. It's really not a bad name, and all the Gary's I've know have been fine people.

I was named after a chandelier. 100% true. I'm adopted and when my parents went to attend my birth, they didn't have a name ready. So they called my grandma to tell her and my sister that I was a girl, and to ask for suggestions (my sister, who was 6, was staying with my grandma). My grandma looked up at her bedroom ceiling at her crystal chandelier, and said, "Why not name her Crystal?" And lo and behold, an entire lifetime of hearing the phrase "Is that crystal clear, Crystal?" began. I loathed my name for most of my life (the kids called me "Crystal pistol" and my mom's nickname for me was "Cryssie"), but once I was old enough to actually legally change my name, I didn't care any more XD I do wish more people called me Crys, though. EDIT: My sister has a weird name too. My parents called her "Melanie". She's their biological child.
uhm Melanie is a perfectly normal name in Germany? Less so since 2000 but we had some in our school.

Later on in the broadcast, he received a fax (yes that long ago) saying "I wish I was called Luke. From Jabba the Smith"
There's a girl at my school named "Paighttonn" and honestly i feel so bad for her
I'm beginning to wonder if these spellings are used to disrupt google searches. Hard to cyber stalk someone when you can't spell their name?

Was Septimus born on the 7th of the month or was he the seventh child? Or did they just like the name?

Working many years ago as a nurse, a woman named her twin girls Chlorine and Florine. Nope, she wasn't a chemist, don't think she knew about the periodic table of the elements, either.

Ah, the old Puritan pilgrim names. The Barebones were a fun lot. My favorite of theirs is If-Christ-had-not-died-for-thee-thou-hadst-been-damned.

Because of parents like these lol, Portugal hás a law that you can only name a child from a list of authorized names ( around 1000 ) of course that in Portugal ( and most Latin speaking countries ) you don't just have 1st name, you have 2 first names, followed of your mother's maiden name, and then your father last name.
I tried to explain this to my friend once. He didn't get why and just laughed how we are all called Antonio or Manuel or Carlos. He's a British guy named William.
Load More Replies...I went to school with a Tony Orlando. My sister knew a Mason Dixon. (As in mason-dixon line, the dividing line between the "north" and the "south" during the US civil war. Yes. We lived in the south. )
The Mason Dixon line is actually the result of a war that Pennsylvania and Maryland fought over the border of the two colonies. By war, I mean about 12 guys in a field kinda shooting muskets at each other. It became the traditional border between North and South. However, Maryland, despite remaining a slave state, stayed with the Union during the Civil War.
Load More Replies...I used to live across the street from a family with two little kids: a girl named Flower and a boy named Keebly (named after the Keebler cracker elf). No, I did not make that up.
