Our brains just love symmetry! So much so that when we see a fine example of things just falling nicely into place just as they should, it satisfies us deep within our souls.
Of course, when we encounter the opposite - the wonky, the askew, the lop-sided - it triggers a vague feeling of discomfort. This reaction is stronger in some than in others, but even those of us who would consider themselves chill about imperfections can get fixated on certain mistakes.
Can't understand what I mean? So what lies behind this fascination with all things symmetrical? Well, according to an article in HowStuffWorks, it comes from the fact that most objects in the real world are symmetrical. "This is particularly true of nature: the radial symmetry of starfish or flower petals, the symmetrical efficiency of a hexagonal honeycomb, or the uniquely symmetrical crystal patterns of a snowflake," they write. "In fact asymmetry is often a sign of illness or danger in the natural world."

I know teachers who do this, and I really don't get why! Every file they create, they save to the desktop! I keep a folder on my desktop, with all the files pertaining to my current classes. Once I'm finished with this semester or the project, and move those folders off the desktop!

I have a very uncluttered desktop but whenever I open google I end up having 20 tabs open and just get so satisfied being able to close them all
I just love it, well if you think about this for a moment this desktop is no different than your iPad or iPhone ; we tolerate icons on them so why make an issue out of the desktop? 😂
Yeah... you *really* should not be saving files to the desktop. and you ***really*** should not be saving multiple projects to the desktop, without sorting them into folders.

My boss's desktop looks like this, but with 20 programs running in tray and 53 tabs open in chrome. And she wonders why her computer freezes.
If I opened a friend's laptop and it looked like this, I would honestly sit there rearranging it myself for two hours.
And they would HATE you if you did it. They may know where everything is and like it that way. I keep current files on the left side of my desktop, frequently used folders on the right side, frequently accessed program shortcuts across the top, and a gorgeous Kermode sport bear galloping out of the background woods in the middle. When the files start to close in on the bear it's time to clean house and send old stuff away to trash or it's hard drive home.

I work in I.T. and mine is even messier than this, but i know where everything is, i have a system.
I work as tech support for a school and see this entirely toooooooo often. I KNOW this person cannot find anything they need! I have spent so much of my time trying to explain all the reasons why this is bad and they never fix! UGH, I want to grab that computer and throw it across the room at a brick wall!

This is very close to my work desktop, too many open project and leads to follow so when I am done, they go into a folder and file away. It is my form of memo that other people uses, never lost a thing or forget a small detail.
I AM TRIGGERED ... One place I worked at, this one guy had every square pixel of his screen. and then had 2 shortcut folders. the total icons on the Desktop folder, were 153
if you look closely, then you can see that in the middle there is no app thingy. At first I didn't see it, and thought the annoying thing was that the whole entire page was covered with the app thingys.
OMG! It drives me crazy if I get too many. I finally made a folder called. "C**p I wanna keep for no good reason"
My boyfriend is a programmer/engineer. I bought him another screen, 'coz the whole desktop is not enough for him.
On Apple computers, there's a simple pull-down menu at the desktop level called "View" with the option to "Clean up by…" or "Sort by…". Select everything on the desktop and choose "Alphabetical" or "Size." It will rearrange everything on the desktop and leave no evidence of what was done or who did it.

They just need a few dozen folders to put that lot in. I try to keep my folders and programs on the left hand side of my screen so the majority of the background pic is visible.
my limit is 3 columns. This hurts my eyes and I feel sorry for the bird or whatever it is that's covered up.

yes, at least 4 twitches, 5 groans and the rest are urges to put my hands through the screen and turn those mislaid tiles/manhole covers around to where I can relax again.
Most of these pictures evidence laziness, stupidity and incompetence of the designers or workers. As evidenced in one of the pictures: "No job is too simple that it cannot be done wrong" !

I have it when people call 'someone they know' to do work around the house (usually family), because something is bound to go wrong and you can't say a thing so you don't ruin family relationships. Long story short, my mother-in-law's uncle (!) layed tiles in my husband's flat, I wanted to hire a proper contractor, but nooooo, why bother when the abovementioned person can do the job. I can put pictures in 2 days (away from home atm), but trust me, that is going to haunt me for the rest of my life (or marriage lol).
This post just goes to show that people have no pride in their work anymore - they just could not be bothered. Unfortunately there are more of them than those of us who do care and give a fly....g f.....
