But even though time can change a person’s views on nearly everything, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s changed for the more positive.
Redditor u/Boring-Advice7763 wanted to learn more about how time can affect people’s opinions on things they do and don’t like. They asked members of the ‘Ask Reddit’ community what it was that they started to dislike more and more the older they got, and redditors had plenty to share, covering everything from social media to loud noises, and much more. As someone who was raised by boomers, I will die on the hill that people have always had untreated mental issues; it’s just that they used to only flow down. These videos are stupid, but they don’t remotely compare to teachers hitting indigenous kids every time those kids spoke their own language. Or parents hitting their own kids, for that matter.

...and it is also important to notice that though you once has demonstrated that you were capable of handling a vehicle to a sastisfying level, it does not automatically mean that you still have that ability. In aviation you have to go to regular exams to prove that you can still remember what you were taught and that your practical skills has not been outdated, but when it comes to a car: "well as long as you passed that test 20 years or more ago, and is not causing any accidents, then it is probably fine". We ought to test people regularly, especially when they reach an age where there is a serious risk of cognitive decline, to see if they can still perform. Waiting for the accidents to happen and reviel who do not have what it takes is simply a too expensive way to find them.

The best item I put in the van was a dash-cam. I've had three models over the years but the latest has a rear facing camera as well. I'm just waiting for the day I get hit by a tail-gater. I've had so many people so close I can only see the windscreen of their vehicle... at 100 kph

Definitely. They should be standard in cars imho. My wife and I both have a dual cam in the car and it helped us at least twice in a he said she said situation. One of them was an accusation of being a hit and runner and having an APB out against me. The cam footage cleared things up incredibly quick.

The driver's test (written) in Oregon will pass you if you get 8 questions correct. It doesn't finish the test once you've gotten the eighth one correct, it just ends the test and passes you. It is ludicrous that this is acceptable! And it also explains why there are so many bad drivers in Oregon; they have lowered the bar about as far as it can go.

While frustrating, I try to have some empathy. My husband and his family have to comment on every error they see, loudly - I really hate being in a car with them. OH MY GOD, DID YOU SEE THAT GUY COME INTO YOUR LANE!!! No, I didn't even notice and I am the one driving. Did we die in a fiery crash? No? Then get over it, live and let live and you'll be a lot happier.

People don't notice a red light yet will stop for a green light. They just stop in the middle of the road b/c they have no idea where it is that they were going. And people who decide to park at stop signs & check their email while cars are behind them waiting.

Some days I hate being on the road so much I wish we rode around on horseback still. Sore legs aside, I would have a better likelihood of surviving the trip lol. Making a mistake on the regular streets can be pretty bad but making the same mistake on the highway at those speeds turns deadly fast.

This is the number one reason I never learned to drive. None of the inconveniences of the bus can compare to dealing with that shît, and I say this as someone in a city where the public transport is far from the best.

Starting to get really tired of manufactured outrage. Every day, there's something new to be outraged about across pretty much all spectrums. Politics, sports figures, celebrities, even just general life things that people write articles about, or tweet about, or whatever.
Constant outrage to get clicks and eyeballs. Gotta get people all riled up and steaming mad. Just getting sick of it, day in and day out. I don't know if there's an actual term for it, but to me I'd call it outrage fatigue.

Loud noises aren’t that bothersome, but high-pitched screeches have become more grating the more I age. My 10yo boy will sometimes do this when in VR & deep in a battle and I swear it makes my ears bleed.

Aging. In myself, I don't feel any different to 30 years ago. But my knee usually hurts, my back frequently hurts, and recently I've been getting sharp pains at the base of my spine. Getting old sucks it's just better than the alternative.

Sugar. I’m not a heath-nut by any means but any time I eat something sugary like candy, cake, ice cream, etc, I just feel like it’s too sweet and I feel like it’s rarely worth the calories.

Fashion trends. Loved them when I was younger. Now I feel like a crotchety old woman when I look at low rise jeans coming back in disgust.

Don't leave out families who turn a blind eye to spousal abuse. I was trapped in one of those marriages for a long time to a man whose mother knew and witnessed it - her response? He's just like his grandfather. or.. boys will be boys... or what did you do to upset him? F*ck that, F*ck him, F*ck you. The day I decided I'd rather be dead than put up with any more was the day I kicked his @ss out the damned door. To be clear, everyone in his family knew, just all looked the other way.

Holidays—especially ones that involve mandated gift giving. I LOVE to give gifts and often do throughout the year (I make a mental note of people’s interests). I prefer to give gifts on a random day simply because I saw something that reminded me of someone or just because. The over commercialism of holidays nowadays is just awful.

I'm currently in therapy to get better in this regard. Getting so angry over even small things is, at the end of the day, very draining, and I feel like if I can't transform this energy into something more neutral or even positive, it'll end up killing me.

People. People are disgusting. In high school I had s**t on my car door in a grocery store parking lot. It was a 8 year old sedan, base model other than having an automatic trans and power windows. I cannot fathom what brought somebody to do this other than a mental illness. As I have grown older, all I see are people that don’t care about anybody but themselves. I see trash getting thrown out of cars weekly, if not daily. Diapers on the ground in parking lots. Drivers getting mad I am only going 9 mph over the speed limit, just to have to slow down for a tunnel 1 mile away because everybody here is afraid of tunnels for some reason. Only reason I don’t go slower is because I am likely to get hit going the speed limit. Accidents daily, if you can call them that. I don’t consider somebody weaving between lines of traffic an accident. I consider them a moron who should get fined for reckless endangerment. I have had a new car I got (precovid, when you could actually afford one) get door dings and also somebody backed into it within a few months of owning it. I only ever parked at the back of lots or away from people, so this was 100% on purpose. If the housing market wasn’t so bad right now, I would move to the country with 20+ acres of land and not be near anybody. Sadly, with all that said. I know I am only seeing the lower 20% (or maybe even 2%) of the population. You don’t see the people doing the good things or people picking up somebody else’s trash. You only really pay attention to filth you see doing bad or stupid things.

Had a snowstorm we drove in, could go no faster than 35mph in a 70mph zone. Jeep blew by me near the speed limit. Was it wrong of me to feel glee when I saw them a few miles up the road stuffed 100 ft off the road into the ditch?

Screaming kids playing and I'm talking about the high pitched shrieks that I cannot tell if it's fun or if someone is being killed. (entirely possible where I live). I used to try to check...now I contemplate recording it and filing a noise complaint. Again, to be clear, random multiple screams, sometimes all at once. Though I live in a city proper it is a nice quiet neighborhood and the home emitting the noise are nice good people. And this is happening after dark so I think it's reasonable to expect quiet. It's a neighborhood of very very small yards and there's a great football field size park a hundred yards away. My parents would have beat me silly.

I’m nearly 40. What I dislike? How much all the old people around me complain about everything almost everyone who is old complains about. I like parties, I like going out, I like people and I don’t like when plans get cancelled. I don’t care if you’re late, or early. I like new music. I like old music. I’ll hang out with 20 somethings and 60 somethings, if they’re just happy and not a buzzkill. Even a lot of teenagers have good ideas these days and seem better and smarter than when I was a kid…. Idk man, I feel like I’m getting happier as I age. So I guess I’m starting to really dislike how much people my age complain.

Oh god! This is exactly what I was thinking. I'm 56, have a huge gang of mates, men and women, married to each other & not, young and old. Our kids all love to socialise with us we have parties, all go to a pub that's accepting of all ages. Yeah, your body aches more & the energy isn't as great as it was but we still do 5am'ers and go to breakfast from the night before. Live, live, it's soon over. The big realisation at 56 is that i may only have another 25 summers if I'm lucky.

Politics. I used to give it so much attention and energy. But it never moved the dial in my life. Now, I just try to keep my head down and take care of my business as sustainably as possible and without hurting anyone. If at any point in my life I have more influence, I can start to give politics more attention. But not anytime soon.

This one is going to get so much hate, but dogs. When I was younger I loved dogs! Had between 2 and 4 until I moved out. When I moved out I got a cat. So easy so low maintenance. Still loved dogs. Then I got a kid. I would walk the neighborhood and every single dog would loose it's mind as I walked. Then I got a job where I go into people's houses. All day everyday I get barked at. I still pet dogs, I am still cordial with them but I no longer want to own a dog.

I feel like I've just been worn down too much by misogyny; I've retyped this comment many times and the only way I can describe it is compassion fatigue. It doesn't make the problems men face less real or valid, but I've found it harder and harder to muster sympathy when it comes up. I don't know if I'm the only one, and I have no idea how (or if) it can be fixed.

Crowds. Used to love big events. Even if I just sat on the side and people watched. Now I find myself turning down opportunities because I don't want to deal with the crowds. Also, change in routine or expectations. I have a mental list of things I'm going to do on a given day and curse the person who messes that up. I try not to be cranky about it. I know I'm being unreasonable because it's usually not something important I'm neglecting. It just wasn't in my plans today damnit!

What annoys me the absolute most is the "Well if I don't do it, someone else will" mentality, but then used as an excuse to do bad/egocentrical things. I hate it. Everyone complains the world is going to s**t and how everyone's so self-centered these days, but the minute you confront them with the s**t they're pulling which only benefits themselves at the obvious expense of others, it's "If I don't do it, someone else will and I'd rather it be me that reaps the benefits". Then you can f**k right off Jerry with how everyone sucks these days. If you want general dickishness to decrease, then stop being a d**k.

I find using the F word as an expression of anger or frustration to be very satisfying (Im usually alone) But as a synonym for sex or as an adjective to describe anything, I agree. It's lazy and can be offensive.

The "F-word". Yes, it CAN be used in every form of grammar usage but it's really base and shows lack of creativity and education. It shows you're lazy with your words, and generally makes you look juvenile; as if you've failed to mature beyond the age of 16.
