Extreme Waves In The North Sea
How many times do I have to tell you soft can-openers that WET is bad? Here's proof!
If you want your delicious tuna someone has to go out in the wet to get it.
Load More Replies...Not to worry lads...she'll ride over it like a maiden riding side-saddle.
Meh, the ship rolled forward over another wave, that wave in the photo is not coming over the bow, the ship will coast up over it and on the upward tilt that same view will be all sky. I love this it's like a roller coaster but much safer...weeeeeee
Depends, the ship you're looking at is a 'platform supply vessel' (PSV). it delivers everything the oil rigs need. To do that it needs to hold station along side the rigs as it's craned up. The prevailing weather can make that incredibly difficult - and those waves DO come over in those instances. You can play this on hard mode too, watch an anchor handler doing the same job (they don't have a stern and everything just washes over)

Load More Replies...Cruise ships have stabilizers and brilliantly avoid the weather. They’re more likely to be puttering along the doldrums than they are to get caught in a storm. With the caveat being the quality of the cruise ship company. I’m more terrified of them for norovirus and the disgusting amount of human pathogens on every surface. Oh, and also the hepatitis outbreaks. I’ve stayed in Dharavi and similar places across the planet & will always choose a densely populated favela over a floating coffin.
Load More Replies...I read it as extreme heat wave in the North Sea. I looked at the photo and thought how does an extreme heat wave make waves so big. LOL!!
More heat energy in the water. Most hurricanes start over warmer waters, so.. maybe
Load More Replies...And THIS is why the family can't get me to go on a cruise!!! Those things pop out of no where
Cruise ships have built-in stabilizers and avoid areas where storms like this can occur. One can easily not really think about the ocean unless you view it through the windows. No portholes on those babies!
Load More Replies...As a journalist, my job has taken me into some pretty scary situations. Gang wars? Check. Gun violence? Check. Hostage dramas? Check. Chased by armed men? Check. I’ve also been to some pretty creepy places. Crime scenes. Mortuaries. Maximum Security Prisons... Check, check and check.
Even so, a few of the pics here send shivers up my spine. There are the dangerous and deadly, and then of course, the downright creepy. To be honest, I’m surprised some of these people had the nerve (and the time) to take photos.
Someone with nerves of steel is L. Taylor. We've withheld his full name at his request to protect his family. He’s a highly trained former bodyguard, who is now working for a global security company. He’s faced some extreme danger on the job, and agreed to share some of his scary experiences with Bored Panda.
My Friend Took This Photo From The Fishing Boat She Works On In Antarctica
Simultaneously scary and breathtaking! They’re giant killers but also a rare sight to see!
Humans are the ones invading their homes and killing them. I'm pretty sure it's the humans who are the killers.
Load More Replies...Yea, right? I mean working in Antarctica and then getting to see these wildlife. Wow.
Load More Replies...They're a bit concerned as the squid is pulling off one of the hull plates.
Taylor’s work has taken him around the world. He has a long list of terrifying “outdoor offices” that might make you want to chain yourself to your boring desk job forever. But there’s one that really stands out. “I worked in Mosul, Northern Iraq towards the end of the liberation from Isis, living in a rented house in the old city,” he told us.
“The area of operation was classed as Extreme-Risk and it was the most destroyed city in the world at the time. There were vehicle-borne IEDs exploding within a 500m radius of our house daily. Multiple liberation exercises around us weekly.”
For context, a PBS article reported at the time, “investigations by the Associated Press and NPR estimate anywhere between 5,000 and 11,000 civilians were killed in the fighting.”
This Fisherman With A Deep Sea Wolf Eel
This made me want to learn a little more about these fish and I figured I would share some tidbits from Wikipedia. The wolf eel seen in this picture is a juvenile/young fish, because as they age they change from the orange color with the dark spots to an all gray. They have very powerful jaws, which they use to crush their prey, that consists of crustaceans, sea urchins, etc. Also, in some Native tribes, the wolf eel is considered a sacred "doctorfish" that only the healers of the tribe were allowed to eat because it was to enhance their healing powers. Their white meat is said to be sweet and savory.
That’s all very interesting. However it is clearly spawned from Cthulhu himself and should be thrown back from whence it came.
Load More Replies...They’re lovely creatures. They often let you pet them if you find one in frequently visited dive locations.
As long as you're not a crustacean the only negative thing about them is that they're not what most would consider pretty. Untitled-6...ea2086.jpg
Well... I'd want to try and eat your head too if you had your hands around my throat...
These Are Pictures From My Job On A 2000-Feet-Tall Radio Tower, Working For Maintenance, The Views Are Incredible
My tower was only 700 feet. 90 minutes to climb up, 45 to climb down.
Viewing the view in photos is enough for me. I get vertigo if I fly a drone too high 🤢
knowing me I'd climb all the way to the top before discovering I'd forgotten the one essential tool I had to have to do the job.
Not only has Taylor feared for his own life, he’s also lost friends and colleagues along the way. “It is always a risk,” he said. “When I worked in a 17-man team in 2015, we were well trained and were actively preventing crime. But through desensitization and skill fade, many of my team-mates are now unfortunately not with us.”
Taylor added that extreme danger doesn’t just lurk in war zones. “I have also worked in some of South Africa's highest-risk townships, combatting armed robbery and organized crime syndicates,” he added, saying some of those times were the most challenging in terms of controlling threats.
Sydney Ferry Worker
This is where the ferry is passing the Heads. This is effectively the opening into Sydney Harbour (or Port Jackson to be exact). So the rough seas roll through this section and creates some wild weather. Saw this often when heading to the Northern Beaches.
I've been on those ferries! On at least one occasion it was during some very rough weather. It didn't look quite like this but it was close. My phone came this close to being ripped out of my hand. It was like being in a pirate movie - I loved it!
Images like this make me kinda glad I have severe motion sickness that keeps me off any kind of boat.

You're an aquanaut, the under water equivalent to an astronaut.
What’s that thing behind the pylon? The one at the back, all the way to the right? The shadow just behind it…
If it's so incredibly dangerous, why does he do it? We had to know…
“It’s a calling,” answered Taylor. “You get to help people and if you get the right contract, it's worth it financially.”
On the topic of contracts, who has he protected in the past? It would be unprofessional not to ask... “It would not be professional to name them, but I have protected politicians, actors and sports professionals around the globe. I have also worked for ultra high net worth individuals and families in many locations,” he revealed.

My Friend Works On A Fishing Boat And Sent Me This Abomination
This is 100% normal, is a common sole, Dover sole, or black sole (Solea solea), is a species of flatfish in the family Soleidae. The common sole, just like all other flatfishes, hatches as an "ordinary" fish with one eye on each side of the body. During his initial growth phase, his left eye begins to migrate to his right side.

Donald Trump’s attempted assassination in July reminded us that not even powerful (former) presidents are immune to danger on the job. In case you missed it, Trump literally dodged a bullet when a gunman narrowly missed his head and shot his ear instead, at a packed rally in Pennsylvania. One person died and another two were injured in that incident.
Police have since revealed the gunman searched for details about John F. Kennedy’s assassination just a week before the rally. 20-year-old Thomas Crooks managed to fire eight shots in six seconds before a U.S. Secret Service sniper eliminated him. The Secret Service and Trump’s security detail have come under fire for not preventing the shooting.
We asked Taylor for his thoughts on the incident. “This was a catastrophic failure of the U.S. Secret Service,” he replied bluntly. “The purpose of these teams is to ensure no one ever gets close enough for this to happen.” It’s a sentiment that’s been echoed by others, and the head of the Service has since stepped down.

“I worked in the breach and penetration team. A unit mandated to combat gangsterism with a focus on clamping down on the drug trade. We would be deployed as needed in the most hostile of locations,” he said of his time in the police force. “Replicating what I learnt in the police, I took this into the private sector, working for a tactical security company, protecting township based retail outlets from armed robbery and extortion.”
My Father Was Almost Pulled Into A Lathe While Working. Only Stopped By His Clothing Being Tangled
No, your father was almost pullled into the lathe BY his clothing being tangled
Happened to me once. I was warned to make sure I tucked my shirt in. Didn't heed the warning.
Had a kid (19) written up several times for wearing loose long sleeve shirts around the gang drill. (A very large automated drill press with multiple spindles for drilling bolts patterns in one go.) One night it caught his shirt, dragged him in, and drilled 8 neatly spaced holes through his chest and flooding it with cutting oil. He miraculously survived, but has spent his life the last 40+ years suffering pain and hypoid pneumonia. The company changed it's policy to sent home with a write up on 1st offense, fired on the spot on the 2nd! When I was lead machinist later on at another company, I used the pictures along with some other items from other incidents for my safety lecture to new hires. No loose clothing or lack of safety glasses on my crew! :)
Saw a video of a guy getting tangled in a lathe once. Absolutely grusome.
Never. NEVER. wear gloves or long sleeved / loose fitting clothing when working with a lathe, mill, or any other machine with open spinning parts.

Yup. Used to work in a Colorado slaughter house where that was a possible fate. In fact, the year after I left I saw a story in the paper; a worker got his protective clothing tangled in an auger and lost his life. No. Way. To. Go.
And yet we have politicians here in the US who want to abolish the regulatory agencies that mandate these guards and warning signs.

The priest insisted that the best position for prayer was on one's knees. The rabbi disagreed, saying he preferred to lie prostrate. The minister said he felt it most effective to stand. "Excuse me, Fellas," came the voice of a line worker on a pole next to their bench. "I say you're all wrong. God hears you best when you're hanging upside down from a pole!"

And for those with big dreams of becoming security detail to the likes of celebs, sports stars or singers, he had this advice: “If you are looking for a career in security, be passionate and never stop learning. This Is On The Backdoor Of The Taco Bell I Work At
A similar sign was on the restaurant I worked at for 15 years. It was due to the potential for persons with guns to force themselves in.
Guess this is the door to a back alley of some sort. In some *really* shady part of town.
Theives wait for back doors to open while employees are cleaning or taking garbage out. They use the opportunity to force themselves in and steal. If you're lucky, they take what they want and no one gets hurt. If you're not, well, that's why it says your life could depend on it.
Load More Replies...These signs have been around for decades. I worked at a restaurant in a nice town in the 70's, and we had them then.
It sounds contradictory but it doesn't say never open this door, ever - apparently daytime may be ok if you check (look) beforehand.
I naively thought this was about bears. What the hell is wrong with people.
As for his own training, Taylor has done quite a few courses to get where he is today. “I did a Close Protection in High Risk Environments course with a global industry leader. This enhanced my existing skills and refined them to a point of above adequate preparation for the risks and threats that exist in the industry. I also did a Tactical Course through a reputable tactical security company,” he said.
And if something does go wrong, Taylor needs to know how to deal with the situation. “I have done multiple medical first responder courses, focusing on first aid in combat situations. This was all on top of the advanced tactical courses I did in the police,” he told us.

So they don't actually clean the floor with nothing but water for the gray handle? Hm.
I think maybe they need to rethink what is in the gray mop bucket, how about adding some cleaning fluid ie:soap
Yeah, this is bullsh*t, at least in the US. I was a housekeeper at the hospital that was affiliated with the nursing college I was going to. I got a month of shifts in the ER. I can't begin to tell you the amount of blood/bodily fluids I had to clean up. No - it's not just water & bleach, they use an incredibly strong disinfectant and you MUST wear gloves while using it. I was cleaning one of the ER bays and dropped my wet cleaning cloth into the solution, splashing it into my eyes. I had to grope my way around the walls until I could find the emergency button. Someone paying attention came & got me and instantly took me to the eyewashing station. If she hadn't, I probably would have lost vision in my right eye. I just ended up with a burned retina, which drops and constant flushing cleared up.

He wouldn't have to worry about dying, could turn into a group of bats to escape tight spaces, her be motivated to save the children...only downside is he'd need to be invited in. Oh and feasting on the blood of the innocents.
If the entryway is significantly destroyed so that there is no threshold, they would not need to be invited in!

One Of My Jobs Each Morning Is To Replace 12 Flypaper 18x12-Inch Sheets
The original Reddit post says this is a warehouse in Australia. Also...why is BP posting stuff from 7 years ago.
BP propagates high-rated, high-activity content from Reddit, Facebook, X, et al. without regards for age. Because it’s a Lithuanian website, using non-AI translation and censoring software (adhering primarily to Lithuanian law, then individual nation-state law) to often translate into Lithuanian and back to English and because English is a secondary language for most staff, idioms and slang often get lost in translation and censoring is hit or miss. To obtain and maintain an international press pass one must publish internationally in certain quantities over time. Breaking into international journalism & acquiring a press pass can be difficult. BP acts as a platform for these young, Eastern European writers to fulfill these requirements by editorializing on previous published content.

Am I missing something.. is it not possible to wear gloves while pumping concrete ?
It absolutely is possible and mandatory PPE in many countries, wet concrete causes chemical burns.

Get some WORKING HANDS hand cream, that stuff is great. My cousin that works at a super ritzy retirement community in Chapel Hill NC told me about it. My hands get really dry in the fall and winter and the good lotion I have wasn't working. I ordered some Working Hands from Amazon and within 2 weeks my hands were better and all of the hang nails were gone.
You can't beat O'Keefe's! I love all their products, including Working Hands.

Don't go into the darkness. Stay in the light and you will be fine. No don't take a picture from the dark!! Get to the light!!
Is that from "Darkness Falls"?! Love that movie!

It's not an all too unpleasant experience until you're all alone, it's dead quiet and you forget that not only will the lights come on but they will do so while singing the song of their people, loudly. I had more than my fair share of scares due to forgetting about these suckers.
More like if you see two shadows you're already dead. Let me know where from people 🙂

Comment I Found On A Thread About Dementia. Absolutely Terrifying
i had a temp job cleaning the dementia ward of a nursing home. They just let the cleaners loose and dont prepare them for anything. It was so sad. One of the things i never forget is a woman who was having her birthday. When i said congrats, she shrugged and said "last year i was still at home with my family. Now im locked away in this place"
I did the same as a summer job, when I was just a sheltered 17 years old. I also wasn't in any way prepared for it. I occasionally think of the poor woman that was reliving WW2 in her head. She was constantly walking around the ward, as if she was fleeing. The carers explained the behaviour to me. They were used to it, and acted calmly. But I was quite shocked about this and other situations I encountered on this dementia ward.

My ship was in Golcuk, Turkey, in the Naval Shipyard, to spend a bit of money having some minor repairs, modifications done. We had trouble with the workers because they wanted to weld without giving us time to set firewatches. This wouldn't be so bad except the ship was an AMMUNITION ship. Tons and tons of explosives down in the holds. Didn't seem to matter to them.

I have been on a roof at 110°F repairing an air conditioner and at 10°F in the winter repairing a furnace.
They should invest in those infrared thermometers that popped up every where after COVID. It should be the employers obligation to stay on top of possible health risks due the hazards in the working conditions.

Empty MRI Area Of Hospital I Work At
I worked in a hospital where it was in the process of shutting down as a new hospital was built. For a few months there was only Mental Health and Hospice in it as well as a few day services and all other departments had moved over to the new hospital. For some reason the imaging department was the creepiest part. Oh and we used to hear things. Reality was, homeless people were breaking in as the place was full of abandoned beds.
Hopefully the magnets have either been shut down or the scanners removed already.

Glue traps should be illegal. Such a cruel, slow and painful way for the animals to die. It's not just insects that get stuck but small mammals/animals too.
Coconut oil works well to get any stuck animal off. I don't believe in slow death it's just cruel

My job is considered high risk BUT not in a creepy or obvious way. We are at high risk of contracting things like HIV, hepatitis, MRSA, VRE etc. We MUST be fully vaccinated and follow very strict infection control guidelines. So whilst it is considered high risk, it's not really that high risk because we have strict guidelines and protections in place.

My job (that I'm currently on hiatus from due to my treatment atm) I guess can be considered high risk, and likely scary to a majority of people. Working with toxic chemicals and dead people be like that, but there's lots of strict guidelines, like the embalming room must be ventilated, we wear ppe, etc etc. That said, at least in that job my feet are on solid ground, not hanging off the side of a building or hundreds of feet underwater...
