Very ethnocentric comment. Lots of cultures are into ornate decorations for their religious buildings. Being Protestant it looks garish to me. But I understand to others it's beautiful and reassuring. And I can appreciate the craftsmanship of it.

Look up the Caroland Chateau in Hillsborough, California. That is a stunning mansion that was built sometime in the late 1800's (I think) and is still used for events today. I worked a few catering events at the mansion and the beauty of the place never ceases to amaze me. Someone put a lot of love into it, much like the buildings featured in this list.
