Alright class, today we’re going to be labeling a diagram of the female reproductive system! Do you know the difference between the vagina, vulva, ovaries, uterus and urethra? Well, if you’re a man, there’s apparently a 50% chance you don't.
While some women enjoy having a little mystery in their love lives, being with someone who knows absolutely nothing about their anatomy is not what they mean. I remember reading on why women aren't given pain meds during gynecological procedures (IUD insertions, colposcopy, LEEP, etc) and read the line "female pain is more acceptable to the medical community than male pain." And that really stuck with me.
My IUD was the most painful experience of my life. I was told "there'll be cramping" and to take an ibuprofen beforehand to help, but...the phrase 'gutted like a fish' is all I could think about afterwards. It was traumatic and I'm terrified of when they'll remove it.

THIS. Once had a filling done, the dentist didn't believe me when I told him I could still feel it and was whimpering in pain. He finally rolled his eyes and said, "fine, I'll give you some more" and injected more novacaine or whatever. Finally blocked the pain. I was a child at the time, BTW. Also, it has been scientifically shown that redheads need more anesthetic than other people to be effective. It's more widely known now, but wasn't at the time.
Your dentist gave you novocain? As a child i was afraid of needles, so it was nitrous oxide and NOTHING else. he purposely hit a nerve every time. Now as an adult , When there is pain and I HAVE to go I am a crying mess due to the anxiety.

Women have been treated as lesser since the beginning of time. Yes, there have been matriarch societies in history where women are the dominant gender, but the world has been mostly patriarchal, and created a space to oppress women. Religion has made it worse, as there are /multiple/ oppressive major religions, but it's not the root of the problem. Men have never needed religion as an excuse to control and oppress women. Religion doesn't have to be inherently oppressive, in fact, in my Christian church, the pastors advocate for women in the workforce, as equals to men. Someone asked how to get his wife to submit to him and they laughed in his face. But religion is still used to oppress. Many churches in the south have ostracized churches that have hired women to be pastors. Religion is a part of the problem, but it is not /the/ problem.
And strangely enough all pain women experience are imagined and only in their heads. This is so fudged up.
Perhaps is high time women start fighting back? I would have told the doctor I'd report him to the Board or whoever deals with medical ethics.

I have Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis, neuropathy in my feet and I cant get pain meds any stronger than Tylenol 4. And those just hurt the stomach.

Scientifically females do have a slightly higher pain tolerance because we are the ones capable of going through labor, but the key word is slightly. This has been stretched way out of proportion and i do completely agree with this post. I feel like when i am sick or injured i tend to just be expected to bounce back immediately and get back to work.

I went in for a gum trimming (it is exactly what it sounds like) and they gave me nitrous oxide for about half an hour, numbing jell and a couple novocaine injections, then they did the 30 second procedure. Glad I have a competent dentist.

I had been telling my husband for years about this. After coming with me to the doctor more than once, he now realizes this is a real thing that doctors do to women.
Maybe it's a thing, that women have higher pain tolerance. Think of the videos where men get hooked to a period cramps simulator. Most reactions are quite bad, whilst the women said they they feel very little of it or nothing at all. And it makes perfect sense to me, because women have to handle birthing pain.
Cramps tend to differ form person to person, also different people have different levels of tolerance. My flow, prior to the pill, was extremely heavy and painful some of my friends had either light or less painful cramps.

I get you to some extent Harry, but if know why something hurts, the pain has done it's job so take the pill to turn it off. I am not fond of pain killers for random pain, I get worried i might not notice it getting worse or something. I also worry if the pain is there to make me stay still I might forget and cause more damage by dulling the pain. But once I'm certain why i have pain, I will consider it. Next time you have pain, think of 2 things; is a good nights sleep likely to make things a bit better and is continued pain likely to make you tense up in ways which will lead to new or further pain. If either of these gives an answer of yes, be kind to yourself!

I've had a few root canal procedures in the last 20 years (4). They are not as traumatic nor as painful as people fear. I always use over the counter Ibuprofen after the novocaine during the procedure. The whole point of a root canal procedure is to remove the nerve which causes the pain. Once removed there is little or no pain in the future. That dentist should be reported to the Dental Association for his misogyny. Totally unacceptable in this day and age. You can't blame everything on religion. There is still a personal and individuals choice to behave in a manner that reflects today's values AND laws. People should be reported and held to account for their misbehaviour.
You are correct, the woman deserved Percoset. But we do admire your ability to give birth, so there's some proof that women handle pain better. This is said with full sincerity about the courage women show in the maternity ward, and I do not think women are supposed to suffer.
When I have birth I had a 3rd degree tear and an episiotomy with severe swelling and they wouldn't give me Anything other than ibuprofen. Should be criminal.

There are plenty of men out there who have no problem doing research on their own and talking to their partners to understand the female body. But the guys who feel comfortable spewing ignorant, misogynistic and downright ridiculous claims online about women’s bodies deserve to be called out. According to one survey, 17% reported that they didn’t think gynecological health issues was anything they needed to know or worry about, and a quarter admitted that they weren’t comfortable discussing gynecological health with their partner.
