Active Volcano Looks Like Damned Souls Being Dragged To The Depths Of Hell
One presumes this is where the subterranean flaming pit of punishment myth originates. Easy to see how people who already poorly understood the mechanics of the fire hole would come to that conclusion.... also that is scary as hell 😳 would not stand
A smart move. Lava flowing, especially by the sea, can have unstable holes and caves called "lava tubes". People do fall in.

In 1990, An Accident Caused A British Airways Captain To Be Sucked Halfway Out Of The Cockpit. The Crew Held Onto Him For 20 Minutes As The Copilot Made An Emergency Landing. The Pilot Survived And Made A Full Recovery
This pictures is not the real accident, just reconstruction from tv documentary. The accident really happen, but, i hope people who not know dont mistaken this pic as the real one.
It was BA flight 5390. The captains feet caught on the yoke, saving him from being fully ejected but also disengaging the autopilot and putting the plane in a nosedive. One of the flight attendants was in the cockpit at the time and helped greatly. Checklists and charts were gone (1990s, those were all paper), the door struck the trust levels, the cockpit filled with condensation and noise. And yet the copilot managed to safely land on an airport he wasn't very familiar with. Also, the flight attendants at one point considered letting go of the captain, believing he was dead (his head was banging against the fuselage) and decided against it out of fear of that causing an engine failure. The crew of this flight are absolute heroes
There is a really good documentary on Youtube by Mentour Pilot on this. I watched this morning! https://youtu.be/rGwHWNFdOvg?si=OAsX4I0ww1gt-9av. The pilot sucked out of the plane escaped with mainly cuts and bruises and a broken arm - he returned back to his job just 5 months later. And one of the pilots holding on to him dislocated his shoulder doing so! Absolute heroes. They did a perfect landing as well.
He remembered lying there not being able to breathe because of the rapid air, and how he turned his head around so he could catch a breath
Load More Replies...For the copilot and the flight attendants who held onto him - yes. However, the captain lost consciousness pretty quick and actually returned to flying months later

There is a lot of those signs, it is standard thing.

Load More Replies...Underwater cave exploration. Those words should never be used together.
There's a place called Nutty Putty Cave in Utah, west of Provo, where there were numerous rescues of Boy Scouts and cavers. Despite that, a guy went into it in 2009, got stuck, and died after over 24 hours of attempts to rescue him. The state exploded the cave over his body and filled the entrance with concrete.
And this sign will instead have people go in because ”nothing in here huh, challange accepted”
Honestly that's the only part of the sign that's sus. Like 'no there's definitely nothing in here' sounds exactly what you'd say if there was a cave full of buried treasure, doesn't it?

According to Nathalia Gjersoe, who is a senior lecturer in developmental psychology at the University of Bath, there are various reasons why our body responds like this in the absence of any real threat.
For instance, do you wince when someone is punched in a movie or squirm when someone is shamed or humiliated on screen? "These reactions are triggered by empathy: feeling the same thing we believe someone else is feeling," Gjersoe says. "Empathy allows us to put ourselves in someone else's shoes."
Safety Standards In The 1960's
Exactly what my mom would do “back in the day” when driving with us and had to hit the breaks a bit.. Those were the days.
I keep seeing this and others similar as “look how dangerous in the 60s.” I remember riding these well into the 90s at least. Both the single and the double chairs. Those things were utterly terrifying when the blizzards and winds forced them to stop the lifts for safety WHILE WE WERE STILL ON THEM!!! I remember being battered about in sub-freezing, blizzard conditions well over 100ft high for almost 2hrs due to dangerously high winds. We literally clung to the seat for dear life. Super sucky.
Ok but the perspective makes it worse. The ground isn't too far away. Just enough to get permanently paralized...
I believe these lax standards held long into the 80’s. I have vivid memories of my mom and grandmother holding me by the ankles when I slipped out from under the railing/lap bar on a pirate ship ride when I was about 5
Almost flew off a roller coaster at the seaside ( england ) in late 70s

My Hobbies Are Smoking Weed And Rescue Stray Dogs In The Woods
When those packages from Acme Inc. start arriving, you may have to rethink this.
A woman in my area posted about taking in a stray cat and begged the owner to get it because it was not a nice cat. The picture she showed was a bobcat and she got railed for it. She was from a foreign country that didn't have bobcats, so she didn't know. That she managed to just pick up a bobcat and take it home is wild to me.
Another contributing factor might be the fact that the sympathetic nervous system, which coordinates our fight or flight response, may not differentiate that much between real and not real.
"Visual information that conveys a threat might be translated directly into feelings of anxiety or urgency, which in turn trigger responses such as muscle contractions or increased heart rate," Gjersoe explains.

This Is The Kind Of Sh#t We Have To Deal With In Aus. I Hate Huntsman Spiders
Despite their often large and hairy appearance, huntsman spiders are not considered to be dangerous spiders. As with most spiders, they do possess venom, and a bite may cause some ill effects. However, they are quite reluctant to bite, and will usually try to run away rather than be aggressive.
Huntsmen are actually pretty timid. It's the size and speed that makes them seem scary. They will bite as an absolute last resort if they can't simply flee. I love them, they have furry butts and sweet little faces and the badge huntsman even has lil yellow eyebrows!
But they are actually harmless to humans. I'd be more worried about small ones like redbacks and whitetails.

You know, all my life, I have been a severe acrophobe. Even looking off of a third floor balcony can make me *really* uneasy. Funny thing is, I love the idea of airplanes, flying, and piloting. So, back in college, a friend of mine got his license and offered to take me up. My first time in a plane, and I was his first passenger, in his Dad's Piper Cherokee. I loved it, never had a problem. Later I took lessons ("I wanna learn to fly!" "Sure! What's your name?") and soloed. Flying in a plane? No acrophobia at all, especially when I was piloting. I figure it was because A) I was completely enclosed by the cabin, B) there was nothing physically connecting me to the ground, and C) I was in control. No problems, even standing the plane on a wingtip in a tight turn. Learning this was a great relief. But *THIS* stuff? NOPE, no way, these pictures bring the acrophobia back full force!
Thank you! I have the same problem! I don't necessarily have a fear of hights tho, i have a fear of falling. If there is less of a chance that i am going to fall, i don't really have a problem.

Apparently you can’t even go to the convenience store without meeting one!
It really depends where you are. East of the Rockies, it's all black bears, and if you encounter a black bear without cubs in the woods, it's likely to climb a tree or run away. Bears in urban areas or around populated spaces like campgrounds are probably more dangerous, since they've been habituated to people and associate them with food - it's why they're there - but they're fairly omnivorous and they're really not very aggressive in general, so if you don't get in the way of something they want (food, it's nearly always food) they're unlikely to actually come after you. Around the Rockies, you get Grizzlies and that's different. They're more predatory, more aggressive and they're not really afraid of you. They're the ones people usually carry bear spray for. Still, plenty of people film them from a wide distance with no problems. "If it's black, fight back. If it's brown, lay down. If it's white, say goodnight." (There's no advice for polar bears because you're pretty much dead.)

Spelunker Gets Stuck In A Partially Submerged Cave Section
He is extremely lucky cause he was able to turn around and go back.. but still...
Whenever I see images like this I think of the limestone Nutty Putty Cave near Salt Lake City. Nutty Putty was created by water from under the ground trying to reach the surface, and has tight tunnels with twists and turns that require a person to crawl on the bellies to get through some areas. in 2009 Edward Jones was going to a section of the cave called the birthing canal and made a wrong turn. The unsafe side tunnel he was in was full of twists, drops and turns that required a person to crawl through long tunnels. The tunnel took a sudden drop and he ended suspended upside down and completely stuck. Rescuers tried to get him out for hours but the tight tunnels and soft limestone rock made it impossible to get him out. He died from the stress of being trapped upside down in a fissure. They were not able to recover his remains. The cave is now closed to the public. He was 26 and left behind a wife, daughter, and unborn son.
Fascinating Horror on YouTube did a fantastic mini-documentary on this. And I'm with you, and maybe a little beyond - ANY cave photo, my brain starts chanting "Nutty Putty Nutty Putty Nutty Putty..."

Load More Replies...This is a horrible idea. It makes gators think it's OK to approach people. Never feed them. They are quite capable of feeding themselves.
Do NOT do this with saltwater crocodiles in Australia. They can jump 2 metres vertically out of the water, and take the whole arm. But this looks fun. No more dangerous than feeding some dogs.
Oh my poor brother. Moving from the Illinois - Wisconsin border to Tampa. We don't have anything dangerous up here, minus a rare pack of coyotes, and a lot of non-poisonous snakes. So he's moving to alligators, pythons, monitor lizards, super bugs, sharks. And Florida man!
Ahh so he's like my family. Chicago suburbs to Florida beaches and alligators in the backyard!
Load More Replies...Caress Your Pet Cobra
Nope...not my fang-tasy at all. My serious hiss-ue is that caressing this pet would definitely be a mis-snake!
Awe, come on. The most bummer part of this is that it probably mean the poor snek has been devenomized. Rubs me the wrong way
This is how I will die. And I will have no regrets. If there's a heaven or hell, I'll be up there (or down there) going like "Woohoo! I touched da snek! Totally worth it!"
A Tourist Sitting On Top Of The Pedra Da Gávea Mountain, Brazil
Yeesh some people just seem to disconnect from common sense sometimes 🙄
like how the heck do you even stand up after you sit down? Just stand on the tilt, brush your pants off and calmly walk down the mountain?
Load More Replies...The annoying thing is that then these types of people expect emergency workers to risk their lives saving then when these insane decisions go wrong. I am aware there isn’t much saving that could be done in this instance, but this is a more general grumble about people lacking common sense.
*a tourist sliding off of the top of Pedra De Gávea Mountain, Brazil
That woman about to fall off the cliff.
Load More Replies...The craziest part of the actual video of this is the cameraman. She starts out a little higher up then this frame and he shouts “MORE” to her… and she scoots further down… and I die inside
Photographing My Friend In An Abandoned Theme Park
Friends don’t let friends walk out on way high up rollercoaster tracks just to prove how stupid they both are.,
Reminds me of Mayhem Mountain, the only creepypasta that really scared me.
This Photographer Is Playing A Potentially Deadly Fight Or Flight Game With Polar Bear
To be fair here, Polar Bears are considered the most dangerous ones, and running, especially by yourself, is not an option. His only real option and hope here was to try and scare it off.
My understanding is they are one of the few, if only, animals that will actively stalk and kill humans.
Load More Replies...A park ranger in Denali National Park gave a campsite lecture about the importance of bear bells (little bells you put on your shoelaces) and making a racket because load noises let brown bears know where you are so you don't surprise and scare them into a fight. He then said these things are dinner bells for polar bears. Polar bears are one of the few animals not naturally afraid of humans. Seeing one for the first time, they are often curious and will approach instead of being wary.
Sure. Why not? The deadliest bear on the planet. Maybe it was a Bucket List thing.
Graffiti Artists On 430ft Bridge
And after taking such a huge risk they'll probably just put some ugly black squiggle there that no one else can read.
Load More Replies...I'm not sure about "artists", more likely is vandalism. Never seen good art on this type of places
Actually sometimes graffiti art can be quite impressive!
Load More Replies...Keep Swiming
"Excuse me madam, would you mind scratching under my jaw? Yessss, that's the spot."
"While you are here, I would like to talk to you about the extended warranty for your cyklop"
Load More Replies...For context, this is a place you can go where essentially the alligators are drugged so they are sleeping/comatose and you are safe to take your photos, so the person is fine. (poor alligator tho)
Isn’t that alligator lucky there’s “One born every minute”. He’ll never go hungry.
Always Check The Carabiners
I don't know what that is I'm supposed to check, so I"m going to avoid this whole situation.
The gates are spring loaded and should close on their own. It's possible that pressing against the other biner is the problem, but the gate on the right biner isn't closing on its own. It's also possible that it's an indication of a real problem. When you clip it onto something you don't want to have to keep checking it or closing the gate manually, because you may forget and end up relying on a biner with an open gate. If you fall on it you probably won't break it, but it may well come loose.
Load More Replies...Wouldn't it be a better idea to check them in advance (and then just stay at home to watch Vertigo?)
Not in this case. This one is specially for "via ferrata" (fixed rope routes). It has two carabines so that you can safely pass the ropes fixtures woth one carabine always on the rope. The harness is the same as for regular climbing.

Bear With Me On This One
Doing my best bear voice impression. “ Just checking to see how your enjoying my river. I’ll be on my way now.”
This sounded like a more upbeat eeyore in my head lol

A moment later something started rocking the entire vehicle with 4 adults and my 4 yr old child inside. Apparently we didn't smell appetizing enough, because after a thorough shaking the bear left. Not much sleep for me that night.
"You depleting my food supply? Good. Because if you were, you'd become it."
Professional Climber Uses A “Knee Bar” To Bring Blood Back To His Arms
How do you make money as a climber. I thought it was a hobby for zealots.
Sponsorships, brand deals. Just like many other solo sports like surfing, skateboarding, etc.
Load More Replies...If you’re doing something that requires you to bring blood back to your arms, you need to rethink your hobbies.
Then he has to get blood back into his legs. Then he has to get blood back in his arms. Then he has to…. Kind of reminds me of one of those birds that sits on the side of the glass bobbing up and down into the water.
Who Else Relates??
I would never get there anyway. I would rather be in place that doesn't require ropes and harnesses.
Load More Replies...I can't relate because I can't possibly picture putting myself in that situation.
I think they are doing some kind of tight rope walking
Load More Replies...I can not express in words how little I want to ever relate to this.
I'm not 100% sure but I think that's also Hua Shan - which was shown above but in a different spot - here's a link to the video of the place I think it is. Terrifying/ stunning path - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIQrgUV8wAE
Has that second guy fallen through the rope that was supposed to hold his feet?
This Guy Handling Those Giant Wasps
Skydiving From A Hot Air Balloon
see i love how this ones kinda ironic like, without context this is amazingly horrifying
Somehow this one doesn't seem as frightening as some of the others. Maybe because in some level my brain understands it's deliberate & (relatively) safe.
Saw A Bentley Parked Like This In Zurich And It Immediately Gave Me Anxiety
Saw it happen a few days ago! Guy was showing off so he deserved it in my book. Multiple ton pieces of machinery are nothing to ever show off with.
Load More Replies...The driveway in front of my apartment is really bad (rental) big dips and rises and my landlord refuses to fix it. No car drivers are willing to drive their car onto my driveway and park on the side of the road instead because they know if they parked on my driveway their cars would be damaged
This happened to me on Thursday. Tried to reverse out of parking space but there was a little resistance. Checked handbrake was off, tried again. Same. Got out, sprawled on ground looking underneath car. Taxi driver who was watching me let me know while trying not to laugh that my bumper was sticking on the kerb. One question still outstanding. Why the kerb is there as it serves no purpose whatsoever.
No. The front is on a curb, so the tire is lower along with the rest of the car.
Load More Replies...The car has an adjustable suspension and can raise or lower as needed
I've seen some funny spoofs of that commercial.
Load More Replies...The front of the car isn't actually that low to the ground, it's parked hanging over the kerb, for anyone confused

This kind of bs actually pisses me off. When I think of some of the people I know that fought so hard to stay on this earth and couldn’t and then I see idiots like this…it’s painful
Load More Replies...This one doesn't look right to me. Look at his body position in the first picture. How does he get his legs back under him? A somersault seems to be the only way, in which case the photographer is a bit rubbish.
These are video stills, not photos, the video shows the somersault. So it’s the editor that’s a bit rubbish. ;)

Breathtaking View
My daughter is a mountain climber and I see pictures like this all the time. I have to deal with it, but it still scares me! 😱

These pics of peoole risking their lives pisses me off when there are terminal people who would give anything to have their lives and not risk it on stupid adrenalin / tiktok fame
And also a lot of people who would either have to risk their own rescuing them, or clean up the mes afterwards.
Load More Replies...I had to stop scrolling. I am *terrified* of falling from heights. Naturally, tons of people without safety gear, way too high. If needed, I will be in a corner in a fetal position hugging the floor.

Apparently it's not socially acceptable to do anything beyond sitting behind a screen and judging others any more.
Load More Replies...I think these people have a different brain activity with adrenalin, fear, pleasure, euphoria etc. I'll just stick with chocolate for euphoria.
Actually that's what it is! Adrenalin is addictive too
Load More Replies...I remember we once went somewhere and we were standing on these cliffs without any fencing and my mum wanted to take a photo of the waterfalls but she wasn’t getting the right angle so she took one step forward and realised the danger she was putting herself in and decided to not take that photo. Even after many months I still feel so much anxiety every time I remember that
I make a point to avoid pics of spiders. I'm all cozied up in bed, cat curled up close by, X-Files on in the background, happily scrolling BP and then BAM! Big flippin spider. Now I can't relax. Keep thinking one is on me, or think I see one out of corner of my eye.
