Many of us are intimately familiar with nostalgia. We spot something that reminds us of our childhoods and we allow ourselves to daydream about “the good old days.” A trip down memory lane can be pleasant. But it’s a jarring experience, too, as you realize just how much the world around you has changed.
The ‘Ouch, Right in the Childhood’ social media project invokes this bittersweet nostalgia by sharing funny memes related to the movies and animated shows that Millennials and some members of Gen Z used to watch. Scroll down for a total blast from the past!

Did anyone ever see the joy of painting episodes when Bob Ross's son did the painting? He was... a tad more 'aggressive'... "Just get the paint right in there. Just really shove that brush into the canvas..."
Now do Bob Ross vs. Elon Musk. "Pay me a dollar a month to look at this canvas I tore!"
With you on this, except that Jon doesn't go out to work either. It's not much mentioned these days, but he started life as a cartoonist, still works from home.
Exactly it. My boyfriend has discussed this theory with me and I’ve always had to mention that Jon was actually a cartoonist so he worked from home.

He was so huge in the first comics! I've always liked his more streamlined look much better.

Nostalgia is a very powerful force when it comes to business. As BBC Future points out, consumers are yearning to recreate their (idealized version of the) past, so they’re happy to snap up products that are in some way related to their childhood media, toys, and technology.
Research shows that consumers are more likely to spend money on nostalgia-evoking brands. This is a goldmine for companies if they can harness this well. For instance, if they recreate or reissue products from two to three decades ago, they’re making themselves more appealing to Millennials and members of Gen Z, who are in a prime position to spend money on leisurely pursuits.

Had to move in with my parents for a month or two and my big burly mechanic stepdad expressed interest when he saw me drawing cards, so I taught him and bought him his own deck. Now he and my mom pull a tarot card every morning over coffee together, like a lil “horoscope” for the day. I haven’t done it in years but found out over Christmas that they’re still doing it, kinda cute 😊

The popular social media project has carved out a sizeable niche for itself online. At the time of writing, ‘Ouch, Right In The Childhood’ boasted 1.2 million eager fans on Facebook, as well as a further 275k followers on Instagram.
Nostalgic content, especially when presented in an easy-to-digest meme format, is a very powerful hook because of how relatable it is. It’s hard to look away when you see frames from your fave cartoons that shaped your childhood show up in your feed.
When is auditioned for Mork, they told him to sit on the couch like an alien would. He sat on it upside down, legs on the back, head hanging down. That's what got him the part.

This is a fictional family that I would gladly be part of. They would make me feel more welcome, loved, and even feel safe, than a lot of other families.
The television show was the same way. Morticia advises Gomez to write "an insulting letter to a friend." The motorcycle punk who ran away from his millionaire father is accepted by the Addams Family without prejudice. What a great birthday for him. They invite the millionaire to his son's party because reconciliation is a wonderful gift!
In The Addams Family, visitors are freaked out, and think the family is crazy. Yet, none seem to leave.
Load More Replies...Nostalgia, like most things in life, is neither ‘good’ nor ‘bad.’ It’s a mix of both. It’s a double-edged sword that can improve your life or detract from it depending on how you ‘use’ it.
On the positive side, nostalgia can boost our moods when times are tough. When we’re stressed out about the present or anxious about the future, it’s looking back to when things were good in the past that can calm us down.
it's too bad we didn't know then,if we did then perhaps gen z wouldn't be so crazy

Load More Replies...However, it isn’t all good. Nostalgia is extremely enticing… as some of us can tell you. When you start living only in the past at the expense of the present, you’re effectively reducing the quality of your life. It’s not healthy to think that everything was awesome back in the past and there’s nothing good about modern times.
If you're not feeling how long ago this was, Macaulay Culkin is now older than Catherine O'Hara was while playing his mom was during filming.
Not a problem: Today, he'd use that same credit card he used in Home Alone, 2, where, quite by accident, he meets the same two inept crooks. Not that this is the most ironic bit of idiocy ever seen in a filmed melodrama. On Bonanza, there was an episode where Hoss and Little Joe were mistaken for two outlaws-neither was related to the other-who were identical twins of the Cartwheel boys.

His real name is Sid. Then, one day, he had his first cookie and became Cookie Monster. My theory is that before he turned into a monster he was actually Sid from Toy Story. Then, someone gave him a cookie, and he turned into a monster. A cookie loving monster, yes, but children have been playing with Cookie Monster toys for years and you know some little kid has ripped off his eyes, tore his arms and legs, shaved him and who knows what else. But as soon as he sees cookies he's happy again and forgets all about. He's basically Sisyphus.
Santa basically tells Donner he needs to handle Rudolph's glowing nose shortly after seeing Rudolph for the first time, threatening that Rudolph will have no chance of joining his sleigh team otherwise. The whole story is about misjudging people. That goes for Rudolph and the elf that wanted to be a dentist and others like the cast away toys. And about joining that sled, if Rudolph wasn't a natural light beacon there was no possibility of getting on the sled team because all of the characters are immortal. Probably a bad thing to have lots of kids when you are immortal.
Hermie wasn't an elf. He was human...hence the only one with rounded ears.
Load More Replies...Don't get me started on how Santa treated him like garbage until he needed to use him.
Santa treated everyone like garbage. Remember how he reacted to the choir singing? When my young English cousins were visiting at Christmas, I put this in for them to watch because it was a pleasant nostalgic memory for me. The 8 year old turned to me aghast and said “Why is Santa so mean?”

Rudolph to bartender, day after Christmas: "Yeah--THEN all the reindeer loved me. But now it's games-exclusion and color-shaming all over again,"
I have thought for years that Rudolph should have told them all to shove it when he became suddenly useful, after the bullying and Santa enabling it. (The story in general, not any specific version.) Then again I also think Santa as generally portrayed is a creepy stalker. I have probably unpopular opinions on this stuff.
Of course he did! You think he has all those toys and not one of them with a red light? He set Rudolph up to be a hero.
I watched it at 20, after not seeing it for 20 years and never watched it again ..Santa was a douchebag
We tend to romanticize the parts of our past when we were the happiest, full of energy, and had fewer responsibilities. For many of us, this period of time was childhood.
However, it’s also possible to be nostalgic about early adulthood or absolutely any other time in your life: it all depends on your perspective. Generally speaking, if you’re overly cynical, jaded, and stressed, you won’t remember those days, months, and years very fondly.
shrek being sensitive about being an ogre and jugded yet is mean to donkey who just wants to be friends, mean to the princess for being pretty, mean to farquad for being small, mean to all the fairy tale creatures who consider him a hero. the message of the movie is way off, shrek is a horrible character.
Can we talk about the Lion King? The hyenas are evil simply because of their race, and Scar's reign is so terrible because of bad weather? Or consider the way the various sequels screwed up Star Wars. First, Luke was just farm boy whose earnestness, purity, and whole-hearted discipleship made him an excellent pupil for a samurai/wizard, like Daniel from Karate Kid. Vader is a dog on a leash. By Empire, Vader is an imperial protege, and Luke is his son. By the Phantom Menace, we find out the only reason Luke will be such an exceptional student was because of his bloodline.

I got to tell that to my grandaughter when she asked me if I had heard of a band called "The Beatles?"

And if you're a man wearing jeans, this happens as well. You know you know lol. Edit: Sorry if that came across as "only men experience this" but I'm saying that people don't see that happening to a woman and think the same thing that they would think if it was a man. It's just a lot more awkward for men to get caught in that situation.

It’s when you get lost in nostalgia and yearning for the good old days that it helps to remember what you’re grateful for. Yes, times have changed and you’ve lost a lot of things as the decades rolled by. However, there are lots of things in your present to be thankful for.
That might be as simple as remembering that you have a roof over your head and food on your table. Or you may need to think harder about all the people whom you care about (and who care for you!) in your life right now. Gratitude helps ground us.
So don't say that aloud about yourself, even if you think it. You will not get to feel better when someone listening agrees with you.

Load More Replies...The important thing is to learn to enjoy small trips down memory lane without getting lost in the past. Nostalgia can help us cope in the present, but we want to avoid constantly comparing the past with what surrounds us now. If we think that nothing is or ever will be ‘as good’ as way back then, then we’re only going to sour our mood.
If this sort of thinking starts affecting the quality of your day-to-day routine, you may want to reach out to a therapist for help. They’ll be able to give you a fresh perspective on how you relate to the passage of time. We must all learn to be present in the here-and-now, and have something to look forward to in the future.

There's a German marionette play called "Katze mit Hut" (literally the same title). I thought it was inspired by Dr. Seuss' book, but lo and behold we have some anarchist humor in German, too. Simon and Desi Ruge's cat is a somewhat ladylike female. The first episode starts with her arriving in a little town, finding an empty house she likes and moving in. The landlord trying to get her to actually pay rent is one of the recurring features. Other characters moving in with her include a sleepy llama, young boar "Baby Hübner" playing the piano and losing badly, and a centipede collecting burned out lightbulbs in the attic.
It looks like a cross between Fairly Odd Parents and Danny Phantom. Loved both shows.
