Dolls are a beloved toy out there and most kids love to play with them, although sometimes, people take their fondness for dolls into adulthood and never grow out of them. It is quite trendy today to recreate dolls and repaint their faces to make them look more detailed and realistic, and that is exactly what Spanish artist José Francisco Cerezo Roldan does.
José removes the makeup that doll companies put on and paints his beautiful version. He enjoys creating celebrities and characters from TV shows, books, and movies. The artist makes the dolls look more like human beings and less like big-eyed cartoons with unrealistic proportions.

There’s certain aspects of a photoshopped image and this photo doesn’t have them. Usually if someone “copy and pastes” on an image you can tell.
Load More Replies...I would love to repaint some of the dolls I've gotten from eBay. Love to know what kind of paint to use. Also, what to remove the original paint with.
José is quite popular on Instagram with over 50k followers currently. The artist usually turns the dolls into celebrities or well-known characters from pop culture, movies, and TV shows. He seems to really enjoy pop stars, especially Britney Spears and Beyonce, since we see a lot of dolls resembling them on his page. There are also a lot of renditions of Khaleesi, a character from Game of Thrones. The most popular one is Anne Hathaway's character White Queen in Alice in Wonderland. José does a really good job at capturing the likeness of people and it's usually pretty easy to recognize who it is.
Guys, I pretty sure that is supposed to be Belle from "Beuty and the beast" 🤷🏼♀️
emma watson as a doll has a striking resemblance to obama... his version is so accurate tho!
Load More Replies...I'm just so amazed how realistic he makes the dolls look. Outstanding!
It’s just like painting on a flat surface, but a 3D canvas.
Load More Replies...Thats because the actor is Emma Watson who also played Hermione growing up.
Load More Replies...So the head was completely repositioned as well? I call fake on most of these, if not all.
You know dolls have moveable parts, right? And that we - doll artists - do change their whole appearance - hair, body parts etc. when needed?
Load More Replies...If you're wondering, 'why bother repainting dolls at all?' There's a simple answer: The mass-produced dolls that we see in the shop are usually very plain and have completely unrealistic features. So doll artists have taken it upon themselves to create dolls with more detail and realism. There is a lot that goes into remaking dolls. Some even thread new hair for them, make clothes, even sculpt brand new bodies. There are many videos and tutorials on how to remake dolls. Some people find it relaxing to watch the process. So it's also a pretty relaxing hobby to have. Most of these artists sell the revamped dolls and make a living off of it.
Doll remaking is quite popular here on Bored Panda as well. We have an artist that repaints mass-produced dolls to make them look more realistic, two parts of Ukrainian artist Olga Kamenetskaya painting celebrities and pop culture characters, which you can find here and here, and even an artist that turns Barbie dolls into drag queens from Rupaul’s Drag Race.
I knew Cher had a lot of plastic surgery over the years but this is taking it too far.
So, what do you think of these remakes? Which doll version do you prefer? Which one would you like to have? Tell us in the comments down below and don't forget to upvote your favorite repaint. If you like what José does, make sure to follow him on his social media and show the artist some love!
I cannot think of the actresses name ... Hathaway ? .. This doll looks like her
Anne Hathaway! I'm pretty sure thats who you're thinking of!
Load More Replies...why do they mke the original with bright lipstick and eyeshadow esp if its a model of a real person its so unrealistic
Looking at the original, I didn't even know who this was supposed to be. The artist did an amazing job on the repaint.
The "after" sure looks like it, not sure what the "before" was supposed to be.
Load More Replies...i do like the eyebrow piercing on the original. not seen often on Barbies
What a f*****g d**k comment. Let's see YOUR cover photo.
Load More Replies...And you lost a chance to write a good comment
Load More Replies...I know it's more realistic but I can't say I'm a fan of pained on chest hair/nipples on a doll.
yeah but geralt is known for his manly hairy chest so its more realistic plus these dolls arent for kids to play with they are more for a adult collection so ya would want it as realistic as possible to the charecter
Load More Replies...I'd say they did, but it's a lot more subtle because of the makeup
Load More Replies...The second one looks like Bella Hadid, I don't know the original, though..
There's a certain Tom Hiddleston-vibe from this one (the right, of course)
I know what you mean, but I'm also getting a hint of Hugh Jackman as well
Load More Replies...I do not understand how this artist changes the smooth surface of the doll to the realistic wrinkly, freckle coverd skin!!
Look at the thumb for size comparison to see how amazing the details are.
I don't know what doll this is, but it looks like she was supposed to be Asian? Not so much with the re-paint.
Again, a more realistic Asian eye with epicanthic fold in the "after" and a racist stereotype in the "before."
Load More Replies...Wow the one on the right does not even look like a doll anymore. So realistic. Very talented artist!
I don't get this one. Erasing the make up, adding a beard and dying the hair, why?
YEA HE SOULD BE PROUD OF WHO HE IS AND HE IS BETTER WITH MAKEUP 💄😤🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Load More Replies...we always need to up the gay-ness, cuz the world doesnt have enough!!!!!
Load More Replies...Its called doll CUSTOMIZING. Hes making how he wants. He is in no way implying that men not having a beard “isn’t manly”. Calm down
Load More Replies...Yeah.. It's a good repaint, to be fair, but I don't like either versions. Johnny Depp's Hatter does not look good as a doll
Load More Replies...Almost picture perfect rendering of Johnny Depp! I love Alice in Wonderland :)
No need for the dress though, she's mostly naked anyway. Could have just painted some nipples, or a bed sheet
Yes, I agree the hair looks a lot better in the second image.
Load More Replies...Can't tell who this is... Possible Monty Python reference? Someone please tell me
If this is Rose from Titanic, I kind of think that left version actually looks more like Kate Winslet. The right one looks like a very good looking lady, but not Kate Winslet. :D
She's losing a lot of the personality in some of these. It's a shame, she's obviously extremely talented.
Britney and Marilyn do have similar eyebrows. It looks like he gave Britney a Marilyn makeover, though
y'all: "Noo don't take away the personality!" Also y'all:
Load More Replies...Lol! Exorcist. And I only point it out because I read your comment as “escortist” and thought you needed a hooker!
Load More Replies...Does the artist not know Frida Kahlo? This time the original is the closer fit
The unibrow and light mustache is what were her defining features! Those should have stayed.
Dude, the monobrow and stache are ESSENTIAL to her look! Why would you instagram her like that?!? 😠
You did not f*****g remove Frida Kahlo's unibrow. Do you have any idea how insensitive that is?
Another weird one. If you're not going to make a more realistic version of the original subject, what is the point?
Getting a slight werewolf-vibe here... I'd be scared to have her in my room. But well-done
Please don't throw medical diagnoses around k
Load More Replies...These are really awesome! I wish there was a little caption to say who the dolls were meant to represent - I recognised quite a few, but not nearly all of them. Oh well, minor inconvenience.
I was thinking the same thing, I was relying on the comments for quite a few to work out who was who!
Load More Replies...A looooooooot of white washing here. Most black and asian women don't actually have blue eyes.
Great job(s), but why always such light eye-colours? In the blue eyes, i understand, but when there's black dolls, why not give them nice, chocolate-coloured eyes? Or in the asian ones (the ones that weren't Eurpeanized)
just don't remove the main qualities like the Asian one or the man with makeup, other than that there great keep it up
