In the age of the camera, we have all seemingly become more skeptical than many of our ancestors. After all, people lie for clout, photoshop images and now even employ AI to create entirely fake scenarios.

The “Pics Or It Didn’t Happen” Facebook group is dedicated to moments that would sound made up if there wasn’t photographic evidence. We also got in touch with Morten Repsdorph Husfeldt, one of the founders of the group to learn more. So get comfortable as you scroll through, upvote your favorites and be sure to share your own thoughts and experiences in the comments section below.

Pics-Or-It-Never-Happened

Two years ago CNN released a photo taken by the photographer Anil Prabhakar in the forest in Indonesia. The image shows an orangutan, currently under threat of extinction, while stretching out his hand to help a geologist who fell into a mud pool during his search. When the photographer uploaded the photo, he wrote this as a caption: “In a time when the concept of humanity dies, animals lead us to the principles of humanity.”

This is false. Basically what happened was that the man in the mud pool was clearing it for snakes. "A report by The Jakarta Post, however, quoted BOSF CEO Jamartin Sihite, confirming the incident narrated by Prabhakar, but doesn’t endorse the theory of the animal lending a ‘helping hand’. Sihite said that the orangutan seen in the picture is Anih and the man in the viral image is an employee at the BOSF, Syahrul. Sihite said, “Anih and Syahrul have known each other since the 1990s. Syahrul was doing the maintenance in the picture.”" "Regarding the motive of the animal, he added, “based on our experience, she could have been asking for food from Syahrul. It shows that the orangutan has become dependent on human beings,” even though in the picture it looked like Anih was offering help to Syahrul."

A simple google search of "Orangutan Offered Helping Hand To Geologist" will pretty much only show sites talking about the the text being false and that was not what was happening. Sorry 😅

Orangutans are just people who don't make houses. We don't speak their language, so mostly we treat them like meat. Makes me so sad.

Orangutans are my favourite of the great apes. They are at huge threat of extinction due to habitat destruction, mainly due to palm oil farmers.

Bored Panda got in touch with Morten Repsdorph Husfeldt, one of the founders of, one of the founders and current admins of “Pics Or It Didn’t Happen” and he was kind enough to share the backstory of this photo-group.

“We started just about 4 years ago. Tess [another administrator] ]and I were members of a group called Crazy Stuff Caught in Pictures (about 10k members) alongside Trevor Roach. Unfortunately, the group went downhill... A new admin had joined and posted both vaginas and other weird stuff and the group was partially suspended by Facebook.”

In 2016 Jade Hameister became the youngest person to ever ski to the North Pole. After achieving this incredible feat Hamesiter gave a TEDX Talk, there were a number of misogynistic comments on the video of her talk, including “make me a sandwich”.

Two years later in 2018 Jade became the youngest person to achieve a polar hat-trick, having reached both the North and South poles as well as crossing Greenland.

On her South Pole Trek which she completed on January 10 2018 she posted to her social media this photo of her with the sandwich and wrote: “Tonight (it never gets dark this time of year) I skied back to the Pole again... to take this photo for all those men who commented, 'Make me a sandwich', on my TEDX Talk. I made you a sandwich (ham & cheese), now ski 37 days and 600km to the South Pole and you can eat it xx,"

Rhododendrons an invasive species in the UK and cause horrible problems. Their roots release a toxin into the soil to reduce competition, which kills all plants underneath them. Even after you remove the rhododendron the soil will remain barren for some time.

A strong, very consistent wind in one and the same direction will, over time, cause a wave-effect on the sand. Usually this will be small waves, but sometimes it might create these almost tiny dunes. Remember, the house-size dunes along the Dutch coast-line are also created by wind.

This zorse -- a hybrid between a female Chapmann's zebra and a male horse,
Zorse’s mother is a zebra and her father is a horse.
Additionally, this hybrid is unusual because most zorses are the product of a female horse and a male zebra.

I went to Goodwill and bought a handful of leather belts. Next time I saw a guy saggin', I called him into the office. He had a choice: pull your f*cking pants up & wear a belt - or go home without pay. I only had to "give out" 3 belts.

Back in the day when I was an ironworker we didn't use safety harnesses either. None of us liked them. They were a pain in the a*s. They got in the way, were a hassle to deal with and slowed you down because of hooking and unhooking them. They also limited your movement. When the 2000's rolled around safety became paramount. If OSHA showed up on the job and you weren't wearing a 5 point safety harness the company was fined thousands of dollar for each person not wearing one.

White uniforms SUCK. For inspections they expect them to be perfect but at least on aircraft carriers it was SO easy to get a tiny bit of grease or grime on the cuffs. Me - navy - summer whites - sometimes they made us "man the rails" when coming into a port. You tried to walk up to the flight deck without touching anything. Takeo's Okusu Tree ✨
Over 3000 years old, this camphor tree is the 7th largest tree in Japan. It is 30m tall with a trunk circumference of 20m, its branches span 30m wide from east to west, and 33m wide from north to south. This is the sacred tree of Takeo Shrine, which was built in the Nara period (735 CE). The roots of the tree resemble the feet of elephants and are wrapped in rough bark, with their central section split open near the surface of the ground. Inside is a gaping cavity with an area of 12 tatami mats, which houses a stone shrine deep within.

In 1959, a coffee maker was an optional extra in Volkswagen cars.
The Hertella Auto Kaffeemachine was the first and only known dashboard-mounted coffee maker. Manufactured in 1959 specifically for the Volkswagen Beetle, it came with porcelain cups which could stick to the machine magnetically.

I'm willing to believe it's possible, but some of the other high spots of foam should also be illuminated the same way. I also think t would require significant post-processing. Here's a regularly recurring example of how sunlight at the proper angle can illuminate water (Horsetail Falls at Yosemite). Untitled-6...72c3ec.jpg Untitled-663fd8872c3ec.jpg

Paradise Flying Snake is a species of snake found in southeastern Asia. It can, like all species of its genus Chrysopelea, glide by stretching the body into a flattened strip using its ribs. Can be mostly found in moist forests and can cover a horizontal distance of 10 meters or more in a glide from the top of a tree.

Jollibee is the McDonalds of the Philippines. These days there are a fair number of McDonalds as well but I think still more Jollibee. I have seen them located within about a block of each other. You can get a burger and fries at either but the Jollibee seems to cater a bit more to Filipino taste. The costume appears to be a knock-off. Not sure if this is a private joke or Jollibee trolling McDonalds. The "real" Ronald has red shoes and while the chest logo varies over time - the ones with the red circle should have the yellow "M" logo in the middle of the circle. So it sort of looks like they were trying to avoid copyright infringement.

Yes, probably something like that. Back in the 80s / navy they would sometimes do random urinalysis. Didn't have a special setup - just toilet stalls - but you had to leave the stall door open. They didn't stare at your junk but they'd watch from outside the stall to make sure you didn't have a container of someone else's pee or something like that.

I get the joke, but sometimes for legal reasons it is about making sure the trespasser has been informed, not whether they can get around the gate. Like if I have a chain and a no trespassing sign across my driveway, it is technically illegal for a cop to come on my property without a warrant, even though they could step over the chain. I rarely have the chain up (used to for other reasons) but various lawyers on youtube tell me that's the way the law reads in most states.

About 20 years ago, my son's friend, who was maybe 18 at the time, still in high school, bought a car over the internet for real cheap, but still a few thousand dollars. He'd been saving from his job for two years.. The guy sent him a matchbox car in a little box. The kid took his Dad's car, skipped school, and drove down to California where it was sent from. He refused to tell anyone what happened, but he came back with this money.
