“Photos Taken Before Disaster”: 45 Pics That Foreshadow Unfortunate Events
Interview With ExpertLife is less like a box of chocolates and more of a fog-shrouded, high-speed, non-stop roller-coaster ride. You’ve got ups and downs, sudden twists, terrifying loop-de-loops, and lots of joy mixed with fear. No matter how prepared you might be, sooner or later, life is bound to serve up a big dish of bad luck. If you want to succeed in life, you have to learn to roll with the punches.
And that’s where the ‘Images That Precede Unfortunate Events 2’ Facebook page comes in. It’s an incredibly popular social media project that documents all the things that can go wrong in your life. We’ve collected some of the most wince-worthy images, as featured on the page, where disaster is literally moments from striking. Grab your hard hats and scroll down to check out the best pics, Pandas.
Bored Panda wanted to learn about cultivating emotional resilience and bouncing back after unfortunate events, so we reached out to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Wellbeing consultant, self-help book author, and BACP member Hansa Pankhania was kind enough to shed some light on our questions. You'll find her insights as you read on.

Here we see the juvenile bird giving in to the peer pressure from the rest of the flock and tempt fate.
We were very interested in how people can increase their emotional resilience when nothing seems to be going their way. BACP member, book author, and wellbeing consultant Pankhania shared a few key tips with us, from grounding to gratitude.
"Practice grounding techniques to stay in control," she suggested. "Take a deep breath, imagine roots in your feet, going down to the center of the earth. Breathe in and connect with the earth."
On top of that, the wellbeing consultant urged people to try therapeutic writing. "Write out your feelings to enable release. Holding onto negative feelings is not helpful," she told Bored Panda.
Those kiddos are about to learn a lot of new words

I saw a meme with this photo saying "these kids are about to learn so many new words"
The EU has ridiculously restrictive laws, yet they allow running with bulls. It's pathetic and anyone who get gored thoroughly deserves it.
I third this. ETA: I saw another comment. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I feel like the bull is the loser.

Does anyone know the back story to this pic, please? (Apart from he's dumb and has no situational awareness)
In the video he gets thrown, completely disorients him, he looks around to see what hit him, then gets thrown again from behind, again he can't see what hits him. Most oblivious man in the world.
Load More Replies..."Practice gratitude. Celebrate the small things that are going well every day, keep a list, and build on these positives."
In the meantime, we wanted to find out how people could get back on their feet quicker after lots of unfortunate events.
Aside from embracing grounding, gratitude, and therapeutic writing, wellbeing consultant Pankhania suggested that people reach out to their social network for support.
"Don't be shy to ask for help. We all need it at some time in our lives. Talk and ask for practical or moral support," she encouraged everyone.
LOL I'll bet they're normal brownies and he's going to be freaking out all night waiting for it to "kick in".
I made a pan of special brownies when I was in high school. Mom came home from work early and ate 2 of them. She went to take a nap & woke up the next day. I told her years later. She said those were still the best brownies she'd ever had.
I kinda hope she does. Maybe that will teach her to ask before stealing other people's food.

Meanwhile, it's vital to prioritize self-care. "The times when self-care goes out of the window is when we need it most. Use the small gaps you have in your day to get a short walk, or meditate for a few minutes," she told Bored Panda, adding that spending time in nature is also a very good habit. "Nature heals and rejuvenates. Get out in the fresh air."
If you found the wellbeing consultant's insights helpful, be sure to check out her website and books. Meanwhile, if you happen to live in the UK and would like to consult with a therapist, take a look at the BACP's directory.

At the time of writing, the ‘Images That Precede Unfortunate Events 2’ project boasted 209k followers and 198k likes on Facebook. According to the curator of the page, it’s the successor to the original ‘Images That Precede Unfortunate Events’ page which got hacked when it got 90k fans on the social media network.
The goal of the page is to show the humorous side of disasters in the making. After seeing images captured mere moments before a catastrophe, the audience is left wondering what exactly happened next. The fact that part of the story is left up to people’s imagination might be part of the page’s massive popularity.
You shouldn’t feel guilty about laughing at these images, even as you feel bad for the people—it’s a perfectly natural reaction. Not to mention that humor is a wonderful way to get through some tough times. Comedy helps you see even incredibly painful and hurtful situations from a fresh new perspective. On top of that, it distracts you from your problems, reduces stress, and boosts your mood.
How did they get this shot?!? Talk about amazing timing. Also what language is that on the wrapper?
"Tomato Smudge' below, linked to twitter. Japanese text on twitter post. This is the translation. "Yarrareta…. This was the moment I decided to take a photo before eating. Suddenly, a shadow passed in front of her, and there was a thump in his left hand. When I woke up, the bread I was supposed to have was on the ground. It appears that the culprit grabbed his prey, but he quickly dropped it and left. At least eat it. In Miyajima, you have to be careful not only of deer but also of birds."

I thought those were body bags of the people who didn't move to the side of the road when a vehicle approached.
Meanwhile, in the long term, laughter can actually bolster your immune system, as your stress and anxiety levels are reduced. Laughter can also work to relieve pain and to help you connect with the people around you. However, it’s up to the person in question to find the humorous side of these nasty situations. Finding the silver lining when you’re in pain or completely embarrassed is quite a tall order. It requires a lot of self-awareness and emotional resilience.
Even though we might not be able to control many things that happen in our lives, we can partly control how we react to them. Becoming emotionally resilient is one of the best things you can do in life. It allows you to weather most misfortunes better than others, so you’re back on your feet and moving forward in no time at all.
And let go of all the pizzas?! /jk 😋 edit:spelling

Load More Replies...Not good but they’ve not really lost the important stuff. Front brake & throttle still intact, they can pull the clutch lever if they’ve got a decent grip on the right bar and they can still use the rear brake. Upset? Maybe. Disaster? No.
I was going to come a say the same thing. As a biker (who's never had this happen), this isn't going to be a good day, but he'll manage to keep both wheel's on the road and come to a stop without getting hurt.

I've been hit in the face with a basketball before. Those things hurt like mad and are way harder than the rubber balls we used for dodgeball. Floppy physics from being unwittingly relaxed might save them from serious injury, though.
I don't think I have been hit by any balls other than soccer balls (aka footballs), I am glad I haven't been hit by a basketball yet.

‘Time’ points out that increasing your emotional resilience comes down to striking a delicate balance between optimism and realism. Ideally, you want to see the world clearly for what it is without being in denial about the things you dislike. At the same time, you should strive to believe in yourself and have confidence in your abilities.

That was true. For the first few weeks after the first observed cluster of pneumonia patients on 1 Jan 2020, there was no evidence of person to person transmission. It could even be that the first person to person transmission didn't occur until after the second week in January.
Yes, I have no trust in China, but it does take time to gather evidence, and diseases do mutate, as we saw. If they had said that there WAS human to human transmission this early, it would have been equally scientifically dubious, because there was just so little evidence at that point

Please remind me of the dates when China allowed tens of thousands of its citizens to travel to other countries after the Chinese new year, thereby starting the infection chain for millions of people worldwide, because it can't have been long after this.
They shut down travel to and from Wuhan right after Chinese New Year, on January 23. Either way, the horse had left the barn back before January.

Load More Replies...Being scared is a natural part of being a human being. Fear is an integral part of who we are, even though it might feel unpleasant. However, we shouldn’t aim to live a life without fear because it can act as an important set of behavioral guidelines. Instead, we should strive to do the things we know are important despite being afraid. Real courage is taking action and doing what needs to be done when we’re scared.
Schrödinger plates. They’re both broken and not broken until you open the door
This was after an earthquake in Taiwan. A friend of the owner opened the door just enough to squeeze her hand in, grabbed the bowls and pushed them back up into place. None were broken.
I was just trying to figure the logistics of putting this back right. My first thought was lying the cabinet on its back—-need a lot of strong guys to help with that—-so it plates fall back into the shelf, then open the cabinet, take them out, put the cabinet back upright, and reload it. Your friend’s idea was simpler.

It was for him. Regardless of the pandemic, he kept having parties so why worry?
F-----ing idiot. Anyone outside the UK should be reminded that we only get the chance to vote for the party not the Prime Minister. If that changes whilst they are in power, we can't do anything about it. Yes, I know this liar was PM during the last election but half the British general public are stupid (just look a Brexit).
This is not smart, but it definitely will smart.
I remember when everybody used to make shapes with thread tied into an oval shape. One day a foolish girl decided to use a rubber band and got all string games banned in the school
Another big part of weathering whatever life throws at you is being prepared as best as you can (even though your plans might go bust). That means taking care of your physical and mental health, learning everything that you can about the situations you know you’ll find yourself in, and having at least a couple of back-up plans if things don’t go your way. Life might be unpredictable, but establishing at least some order and discipline is the least we can do.

At the end of the day, we need to be honest with ourselves about what we can and cannot control. Then, we can focus on the small parts of our lives that are within our grasp, minimizing risks as much as we can. As for the rest… disaster can strike at any moment, but the chances of this are slim.

What we cannot do is let those small risks stop us from living life to the fullest. We protect ourselves as best as we can, and if we’re ever unlucky enough to find ourselves in positions like the people in this post, we’ll find ways to bounce back.

people overestimate how dangerous water and electricity are. yes its better not to expose the 2 but this cabinet is an outdoor rated cabinet. that water is not going to do anything. I mean that cabinet clearly sits in the rain.
Water and electricity can be VERY dangerous, but like you said, that cabinet is designed to be out in the weather. Nothing bad is going to happen for the simple fact that the cabinet is designed to keep the water out. On the other hand, it probably isn't the best "design" to point a sprinkler at it.

Load More Replies...This is one of the problems with zoos. In a zoo animal safety should 100% be ahead of human safety. The animals didn't choose to be there the humans sure did. The mother should of been charged with child neglect and the murder of an endangered animal, but no got to save the human brat that 10k could die a day for a year and have no adverse effects long term on the human population.(except emotional)
Much, much more than that. 10 Million humans could die every single day for a year, and there would still be over 4 billion humans left.
Load More Replies...Aaaaaand this is why we don’t imprison animals for our entertainment 😔
I don't think it's so clear cut. In a few decades the only gorillas left might live only in zoos. And probably there will be lots of other animals in similar situation. It's like a new Noah's Ark.
Load More Replies...In 2016, a 3 yr-old boy climbed under a fence and fell 15 ft into the moat of the outdoor gorilla enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo. Harambe grabbed and dragged the boy around and was getting more and more aggressive until zoo officials had to order him killed to protect the boy. It was one day after Harambe's 17th birthday. .
Harambe was never acting aggressive, and certainly not getting "more and more aggressive" despite what some tried to claim. He was protecting the boy from the others and the extremely loud humans causing chaos. They *assumed he would get aggressive. If the mother had done her damn job and not ENCOURAGED her child to go where he didn't belong (he'd been going over fences and enclosures the whole day), he never would've ended up in there. The mom didn't even know her child wandered off because she was too busy not paying attention. She should've been charged with neglect and been made to pay restitution to the zoo to cover the expenses for the need to send people in there, the cost of the tranqs that were used, the cost of actually killing him, the cost of his removal, the cost of a proper burial (which he didn't get anyway), and had her damn kids removed until she could prove to be a fit parent. She milked that s**t for all it was worth, and then some, though. POS person, imo.
Load More Replies...Two things I don't understand about this incident -what were child's parents doing? and why was child able to get to gorilla enclosure?
It was proven the mom wasn't paying attention at all. She didn't even know her kid wandered away until someone actually had to go tell her. People were screaming and she STILL didn't notice. She went over to look at what people were yelling about and then realized "oh c**p, that's my kid". It was absolutely nuts and I'm still pissed she was never charged (she should've been). She's a POS and milked the whole incident for all it was worth, and then some, though. She turned that whole incident into her cash cow, for quite some time. The whole family is POS people, though.
