This is weird, but here goes. When the vet tells me, genuinely, my kitty was a good girl, a couple grumbles, put liked the pets and lovies and was cooperative. She has a checkered past, and when I first adopted her, her foster family had been kicked out of three vets. Her first vet appointment I took her to required three very experienced vet techs and the vet to be in protective gear. I just loved her and was happy to have her even if she was just a stone cold psycho forever. I never expected she would become such a lovey and snuggler and be my little shadow. That she is a good girl for the vet makes me so happy for her and makes me feel like I did a good job helping her feel safe. I am also so happy other people get to love her too. ETA - this is important to me because growing up, as an adult I realize, pets in our family were not well taken care of. It matters to me that I grew up to be a person who cares for pets well.
I was in the mall bathroom and it was packed. While I was gussying up, the toddler next to me points at me and told her mom ‘mommy look shes so pretty.’ I got shy because there were so many people. Ill never forget you little girl!
When I was still blonde, one day in the supermarket, I heard a little girl say to her mother in this shocked sort of awed voice, "mom, look, it's Elsa!!" (I had my hair in a braid that day.) I was basically walking on air for the rest of the day with a big stupid grin on my face.
I work at Walmart as a picker(I shop for online orders). WM can be overwhelming anyway, and when the store is busy, customers hate us, always saying we're rude and in the way, but one day I was in an aisle waiting for some customers to get by me and an older woman said to me "you have the sweetest smile" when she walked by and it was the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. My mom or no one else in my life has ever said anything nice to me like that and I'm 57.
It really made my day.
At my first proper job the team in my office started becoming toxic and the one guy I was on good terms with called his girlfriend and I overheard him tell her that I was the only decent guy in the office. As someone who struggled with making and maintaining friends, this made me feel like I am no longer the a*****e schoolboy heavily influenced by my a*****e father.
Whenever we go camping I always light the fire. Every year someone will try to usurp me and every year I will be dragged away from building my tent because they can't get it going. I am the fire queen. .
I grew up on a self-sufficient smallholding and all my friends agree that, come the apocalypse, I'm the lady with the skills we need to survive! That made me laugh but also feel quite good!
When my dog chooses to cuddle with me instead of anyone else in the room.
When I get to exercise my vast collection of random information I have amassed over the decades of diving into rabbit holes on the internet. Being able to answer the questions most people say "Who TF even knows this s**t?" feels so good! Makes me feel smart and educated even though I'm a dumb dropout.
Everyone's smart in their own way, the fact that you learned to do things in a different way, than they taught you at school, doesn't make you dumb. It tells that you're thinking outside the box
Recently a guy a the grocery store said “wow, you have the most vibrant eyes”. Then he turned to his girlfriend and said “aren’t they amazing?” It felt like a huge compliment because I’m a guy and he clearly wasn’t hitting on me….and yes, I’m sure it was his girlfriend because he was all over her.
I speak rather rudimentary Japanese and one day while waiting in the queue at the convenience store near Mount Fuji, an old woman patted me on the arm and smiled at me. She pointed to my eyes, and said they were beautiful. As beautiful and blue as the sky above Mount Fuji! I nearly cried!
Being told I’m the reason someone didn’t give up.
I am a large straight man, at my last job the two lesbians that worked there were STUNNED that I was single.
I have been riding that high for almost 6 years.
That's the TLDR version, the verbatim conversation was...
L1 - "You've got a girlfriend right?"
Me - "Nope, still single."
L2 - "Really? You aren't dating anyone?"
Me - "That's right, haven't dated in a few years."
*Both girls look at one another, then back to me, and say in unison*
"HOW?!?".
I usually get the stunned "how" when on the rare occasions I can truthfully say I HAVE a girlfriend.
Tell me you're an icel without telling me you're an incel 😒
Load More Replies...When someone says their pet likes me, or if an animal chose to sit in my lap instead of someone else's. That always makes my day.
Because pets are generally better at telling a comfortable person than many people are.
Multiple people have commented on my laugh before but it never really sank in until one of my buddies says "Man, your laugh is one of my favorite things to hear" and that's when I realized "Maybe I do have it pretty good".
Overhearing someone compliment or say something positive about you when they don’t think you are listening.
When the older black lady calls me sugar or honey.
The compliment I got from some random woman at a bar a few weeks ago where she said I (a man) had nice hair and then disappeared into the crowd never to be seen again. I remember your words random lady and thank you for them.
Its really strange to think about it cause like there has been random times over my 36 years, as rare as they are lol, and I remember them lol
When my son tells me that I'm the "best mama ever". It makes me feel like I can conquer the world.
Mine tells me to go away, and once told me that he thought I should be dead (he's 2). My daughter's a sweetie, though! (Thank God.)
When a child tells me I am pretty. Kids are genuine. I believe them.
"Here, I made you this necklace, so that you can remember you are a woman" - it dosnt have the same ring to it 😂 She also touched the face of my Bob Marley tshirt i was wearing and said " wow, you have all this bumps in your stomack", so I had to explain abs to her. She is very sweet tho, my little neighbor ❤️
Making someone I care about happy.
Someone remembering small details about me.
As long as that small detail isn't your name, I'm your girl! I remember so much "small"stuff about people. I will know when you rabbit died, what kind of soup you dislike, how you named your childhood pet, how you "fight"with your significant other about the favorite spoon in the house....What I will not remember is your name
Being able to help someone or to somehow improve their day.
I just did that! A colleague from the packing station mumbeled "Help!" as I passed by. I was already on my way to my workplace as it dawned on me. He really needs help. So I went back and asked him, if he really needs help and he smiled and said "Yes, please!". Turns out the boss walked by this morning and complained about the stuff standing around everywhere. Other colleagues came in late yesterday and didn't pack their stuff away, so the boss told him to do that - additional to his regular duties. We did the work that maybe would have took him an hour in about 15 minutes and he was very happy. His face made my day. :)
Seeing my work published or recognized.
When you haven’t seen someone in a while and they say “You look great” and you know it’s genuine.
Out of the blue compliments of my abilities at something I love doing.
When my photography gets appreciated.
Plus, all photography is great, you took the picture so that must mean you saw something worth photographing...even if it's those duck face selfies...still great because it's great to the person in it.
Receiving an unexpected bonus or gift.
Yeah, this always gets me. I'm not used to getting gifts so like when a friend is like, here I got you this...I'm like huh..why? Lol but I appreciate it.
When someone finally admits I’m right. BECAUSE THEY KNEW IT IN THE FIRST PLACE BUT HAD TOO MUCH PRIDE TO ADMIT IT.
Random compliments from ladies that you have never seen and won't see again in your life on public transport or supermarkets or anywhere public.
Knowing I’ve left a lasting impression.
When someone laughs at my jokes and genuinely finds me funny.
Yeah, especially someone who gets the jokes or references. I've been on the other end of this too where no one laughs lol I'll just see myself out at that point.
Usually when i'm done weed eating and I can perform 'hand on hips/nod/yep' stance.
I don't know what this means. You eat weed then stand with your hands on your hips & nod?
People calling me a hacker in a game.
When my wife handles her own when men are chatting her up.
When people notice my weight loss or fitness progress.
I’ve been on a weight loss and fitness journey (65 pounds down, 31 to go) and my sister said she has been telling her coworkers about how well I’ve been doing. That made my day!
Receiving a public thank you.
Making my chest bounce like Terry Crews. Once i found out I could do that after I'd been hitting the gym for a while, it was the best day ever.
So nice to have an article centred around something positive rather than the usual negative articles. This is VERY much appreciated, BP!!!!!

I Heard a conversation between my sister and my 4 y.o nephew "Mommy Aunt Franci can fix everything ..all the broken things?" "Yes also the impossible one ..." ..and everytime he break a Toy "no problem ..Aunt can fix It.. he make me feel a sort of super Hero
"You're so strong. I would have k****d myself." From a gay acquaintance living with HIV before there were effective treatments, after I got a bit tipsy and briefly described my journey in life. That dark compliment from someone with his own dark struggles made me feel "seen" for once.
My aunt adopted a cat a while ago. He is quite shy and a scaredycat and won't go up to just anyone. I've been the go to catsitter and he absolutely loves me! Wants to cuddle so much and just wants to be near me all the time when Im there. It makes me feel so special
My daughter was having some trouble with a girl who was harassing her, threatening to self-harm if she stopped being friends with her. It came to the point we had to call the police. As per protocol, the police wanted to talk to my daughter and then me, because this girl was trying to pull an Uno Reverso. They said I obvious I care about my daughter a lot. Coming from authorities figures that typically look for the bad, it was a big boost in confidence and relief.
I have rarely been accused of being pretty. I have what used to be called a "plain" face. In my early 40s, I was two years from being divorced from a guy who made me lose all confidence in myself (in nearly every way, including looks). I was at the store, and I hear the guy behind me, "I'm behind the pretty redhead," meaning me. Well, he was obviously quite high, but I like to pretend that was not a factor. Gave me quite the boost! That was the first and last time I was called pretty (or even, "You look nice today") since I was a teenager.
I wish that I could give you a compliment on your looks, and have it be genuine. But since I don't know what you look like, anything I say would be trite or cliche. But I know the feeling. The last time someone complimented me on my looks, I was 6. I'm 41 now. But I do hope that you find someone who genuinely makes you feel beautiful, who helps build up your confidence instead of tearing it down.

I did and just kind of hung around, not sure what he wanted me to do while he got all frustrated. Afterwards when he'd gotten it to work I asked "why did you want me to come back?" and he said "I was getting upset and I thought maybe you'd say something to cheer me up." That he seems me as someone who can do that for him really warmed my heart. On another occasion, my uncle was being an annoying jerk and he wasn't in the mood for dealing with his BS so he wearily said "deal with him, would you?" This time I understood the assignment and verbally demolished the guy. Dad had this big grin the entire time. Wow, I really do have the best Dad and the best relationship with him, don't I? :D
I'm a long time cosplayer, infamous for my Doctor Strange cosplay. In particular, there are two events that I go to that have formal balls. So I do a formal version of my costume. I have the cloak of levitation rigged up so it functions like a puppet, and I dance with it. I'm a terrible dancer, but as a martial artist I can make some dramatic movements. I usually get laughs and applause, but honestly I always think I'm probably annoying people. Well, recently, due to financial issues, I almost missed out on one of those events. I made it in the end, but I had posted about it. Well, after the ball, the person in charge pulled me to the side. I figured it was probably the end, I pushed it too far and was being told to knock it off. But instead she told me that when the ball staff found out I might not make it, they tried to get the event staff to give me a staff position, which would have meant free admission AND hotel room, just to make sure I would be there. I nearly cried.
I have a bunch of these. The most recent, my son just said I love you to me out of the blue. In uni, a girl I wasn't too close with but that was the "I'll give it to you straight" type just walked up to me one day and said "you know, at first I thought you were a total b***h (I have a severe case of RBF and a mild case of social anxiety) but now that I know you better you're totally cool". And the highest compliment of all weirdly came from the most popular girl in HS - while I was a shy introverted desperately trying to be an extrovert teenager - I can't remember what I had said but she said something in the lines of you are a queen! in full sincerety
1) Anytime my bestie gives me a compliment, because SHE is amazing, and I trust her judgement completely. 2) Started my first job after 11 years of staying home with the the kids. Within the first few months, they increased my pay by $6/hour, without me asking, just to make sure I never left.
I have a friend who is about 6 years younger than me (I'm 46) and I often babysit her 2 boys. A few years ago, one of her kids (he was about 6 or 7 at the time) asked his mom how old se was, then how old I was. When my friend answered, he said, "But how can Bex be OLDER than you when she looks like she's so much YOUNGER than you?!" Oh, sweet child, thank you for that, lol
