McKee thinks it’s time to finally blow up the myth that feelings don’t matter at work.
"Science is on our side: there are clear neurological links between feelings, thoughts, and actions. When we are in the grip of strong negative emotions, it’s like having blinders on," she said. "We focus mostly — sometimes only — on the source of the pain. We don’t process information as well, think creatively, or make good decisions. Frustration, anger, and stress cause an important part of us to shut down —the thinking, engaged part. Disengagement is a natural neurological and psychological response to pervasive negative emotions."

They called the insurance company and told them I quit and terminated it right then. I found that out when I gave birth to my son. Yes, it is illegal but very hard to prove that it was because I was pregnant. Some employers just suck. And no, there are no workers rights. Even if you are supposed to be protected.
Good, they have given you written proof you were not fired, so you can collect unemployment.

I've never (in the US) heard the word "fired" used other than when you are dismissed from a job for doing something wrong (sexual harassment, stealing, i.e. something criminal or breaking policies). The expression "layed off" is what I hear when you are dismissed from a job because of downsizing or for other reasons. This explanation is about the "you are not being fired" and why it could be true, but still they could have provided some insight into the reason why.
You wouldn't get away with that in the UK. If you make someone redundant in a position that needs to be filled you have broken the law by laying that person off if you plan to refill the position. Point is, you're not allowed to lie about why you are terminating that persons post. Doesn't mean employers won't try but it does provide some safeguards.

they cannot fire you without notice and pay, but they can lay you off with nothing, and a maybe we'll bring you back in when things get better. It's a corporate loophole around unions and the law that the politicians got paid by big money, to pass.
"At will" states (all except Montana from what I can see) mean you can quit or be fired for any reason without notice. "Right to Work" states means they can't "Force" you to join a union or pay dues to get/keep a job. They word it like it's to our benefit, but really it's to combat unions, hurting employees. It's why we don't have pensions anymore and such low wages. Stop letting them fool you with the names of laws. #VoteBlue even if it's just this once. See if we can't overturn some of these policies.

I was fired from a job with no tangible rules on places to be tested for Covid. I tested once at a place I'd been tested before--and it was acceptable--but my place of employment stated I did not test at an approved facility, therefore I was canned. It was positive, BTW. Couldn't even enter the building to retrieve my belongings.
