Having a terrible day at work can be frustrating, overwhelming, and even demoralizing. Whether it's a challenging project, an annoying colleague, or just a series of misfortunes, sadly, there are plenty of reasons you might feel like you're a failure.
But as Sigrid and Bring Me The Horizon sang, "It's just a bad day / Not a bad life." And one of the ways to recover is by venting online. So we at Bored Panda decided to remind ourselves that the universe hasn't conspired against any of us. From time to time, everyone runs into some (undeserved) adversity.

I Work As A Valet And Make $3.85/Hour And I Received This As A Tip
Getting dealt a bad hand at work isn't the end of the world. Especially for content employees. According to Annie McKee, Ph.D., who is a best-selling business book author and advisor to top global leaders, from CEOs of Fortune 500 companies to government officials, those who are engaged with their jobs and colleagues work harder — and smarter. But that's quite rare.
"Far too many couldn’t care less about what’s happening around them," McKee wrote in Harvard Business Review. "For them, Wednesday is 'hump day' and they’re just working to get to Friday. And then there’s the other end of the bell curve — that nearly one out of five employees is actively disengaged. These people are sabotaging projects, backstabbing colleagues, and generally wreaking havoc in their workplaces."

Got Fired For “Telling The Boss How To Do His Job” When All I Did Was Say “We Can’t Obstruct A Fire Escape”
"Disengaged, unhappy people aren’t any fun to work with, don’t add much value, and impact our organizations (and our economy) in profoundly negative ways," McKee explained.
"It’s even worse when leaders are disengaged because they infect others with their attitude. Their emotions and mindset impact others’ moods and performance tremendously. After all, how we feel is linked to what and how we think. In other words, thought influences emotion, and emotion influences thinking."

I feel so sorry for you. I guess a good hand cream won't quite do the job?
McKee thinks it’s time to finally blow up the myth that feelings don’t matter at work.
"Science is on our side: there are clear neurological links between feelings, thoughts, and actions. When we are in the grip of strong negative emotions, it’s like having blinders on," she said. "We focus mostly — sometimes only — on the source of the pain. We don’t process information as well, think creatively, or make good decisions. Frustration, anger, and stress cause an important part of us to shut down —the thinking, engaged part. Disengagement is a natural neurological and psychological response to pervasive negative emotions."

However, it’s not just negative emotions we need to watch out for. "Extremely strong positive emotions have the same effect," McKee said.
"Some studies show that too much happiness can make you less creative and prone to engage in riskier behaviors (think about how we act like fools when we fall in love!). On the work front: I’ve seen groups of people worked up into a frenzy at sales conferences and corporate pep rallies. Little learning or innovation comes out of these meetings. Throw in a lot of alcohol and you’ve got a whole host of other problems."
So it sounds like having your suspenders stuck in your chair every once in a while can be actually quite beneficial.

Since nobody can prepare for the unexpected (just the way they can react to it), it isn't surprising that workers worry about other things.
"One could argue that today's employees are as equally stressed as their predecessors, but for different reasons," said Jodi Chavez, president of Atlanta-based Randstad Professionals, a segment of Randstad US, which provides finance, accounting, HR, sales, marketing, legal staffing and recruitment services. "They fear having their jobs outsourced to another country, have anxiety about how best to work alongside new technologies such as automation and robotics, have increased financial pressures with rising student loan debt and late retirement, and feel pressure to be 'on' and answering e-mails 24/7."

In difficult times, you need to find an internal reserve of energy and hope to help you make your way through. In other words, you need to tap into your resilience.
"Like so many other human traits, resilience can be woven into the fabric of one’s being (nature) and/or it can be learned (nurture)," career and business coach Marjie Terry said.
"One’s natural disposition may lead them to always look on the bright side or to look for the silver lining. For others, with an accumulation of life experience, they develop a resilience perspective and realize that, as the old saying goes, what doesn’t break you makes you stronger. They develop an ability to recognize that it’s important to keep going even when life hands you challenge after challenge—they develop perspective."
Sometimes, there really isn't much else we can do but endure. And laugh!

I'm A Night Custodian At A High School. This Is What The First Day Of School Looks Like
I honestly saw the picture and thought it was the last day of school (where some schools let the kids throw all of their papers as a celebration) before I saw the caption. How does this happen on the first day though?
If I was in a position of authority at this school, I would make the kids clear this up. Including the mirrors and the toilet bowls. They need to learn respect.
Yeah and then they get the f.cking parents come to complain by the manager. It’s not the job of the school to teach manners to those sorry to say again f.cking spoiled kids. I am sorry for my f words bud I truly get pissed on those people and who raised them, who have no manners or respect.
Load More Replies...2nd day of school: My principal locks all the bathrooms and order port-a-potties for the kids to do their business in. He would NOT tolerate this!
Kids are disgusting. My school Finnaly got period products in the bathrooms but now stupid idiots are wetting tampons and throwing them on the ceiling. Like cmon?? Now they’re threatening to take the products away and I am not gonna go buy pads.
That is some BS. I think the American educational system is obsolete and the youth are rebelling.
Pretty sure that's not an American school. Based on the type of sink.
Load More Replies...In Japan there are no janitors for school. We had to clean the school ourselves top to bottom after the end of each school day. Including the bathrooms. We did not have flush toilets, we had latrines. Yep, we cleaned those, too!
What High School is this??? I go to a public HS in America, and it's very clean. Mainly due to the awesome custodians, but luckily the students are very respectful and we all clean up after oursleves.
Did someone take all the paper off of all the walls and the entire school and dump them on the floor. How do you have that much paper on the first day?
Nah, dude. I would've left that s**t, taken a picture for prosperity and evidence, called the principal and have him make the students clean it up in the morning.
I am a night custodian at a university and I would probably be banned from this if I showed pics of the washrooms and we started giving free tampons and pads so now....#2 on the pads, sanitary boxes filled with toilet paper full of wiping instead of putting in the toilet, vomit in the sinks and foot prints on the toilet with #2 on the very back of the toilet and walls from peeps standing on the seat while doing #2 boogies from nose on the stall walls.....
I would show that picture to the Principal and have each and everyone of them little sh**ts pick it up.
They are just "expressing" thier true innermost feelings. (Also, they know that they will not be held accountable for their actions !!)
Tell your sup and the principle and he should make all the kids clean up the mess!
its not that bad (just paper),we had someone smear feaces all over the toilet walls
i clean at a school. Kids tear open the toiletpaper holders, rip the things out and jam them into the waterhole of the toilet (whatever thats called) they rip the tp out and throw them around. they take out all the paper towels from the holder. They wet some and throw them at walls and ceiling. They poop next to the bowl. they tear stuff from the wall thats bolted down. They stuff urinals with paper towels. They take cisterns apart. Latest trick: they put glue on several toilet seats. One resulted in glueing the whole bowl together. Im glad it doesnt happen all the time or on the same day :-D Oh and when its really bad i say "ef this s**t" and i lock the door of the stall.
Send them to kindergarten in Japan for a lesson on how to clean up after themselves
I guess my school experience was different! I mean, our bathrooms weren't exactly spotless but they didn't look anything like this!
One time at my school, a boy threw his mandarin seeds to the floor and when asked why, he said this- "Won't the cleaners just clean it up?" I was so annoyed at him I could have slapped him.
Well as a former Teacher I would keep Class in to Pick it all Up off the Floor or receive a Fail for that Day!!
Glad to see the future health of the Environment will be in good hands.
Who did the pattern on the wall? This looks so stressful. Whos is in charge of this BS? No wonder the kids go nuts in an environment like that.
They are giving too many papers on the first day. Probably the school handbook or something.
My old HS absolutely would not have tolerated this s**t. Not sure the solution. They probably would have taken anyone in trouble / on in school suspension and made them clean it up, knowing peer pressure would probably trickle back to other students from the kids who had to clean. Or they would have cancelled our Friday football game or something.
I think its a typo - Either way first day or last its a s**t thing to do! I remember the thrill of emptying my backpack and locker contents on the last day of school INTO THE TRASH BIN!!!
I had this job. It was a nightmare. Boys don't give a s**t about their surroundins or who has to clean up after them.
I feel that, I'm still a student but I do maintenance after school and during breaks so I'm also part of the cleaning crew. I somehow always get the shift of the last day before a break and it's always so bad I just want to curl into a ball and cry. I've also had to make sure I don't get a certain section bc it consistently made me have a breakdown with how bad one of the rooms was.
See at my high school we teens can be destructive but we know better because we have like 5 custodians for a huge school( leander high school- look it up its pretty big and really old)
just be glad the fire sprinkler didn't go off with THE LITERAL PAPERS HANGIN' FROM IT!!!
