It's perfectly fine to have disagreements and differences of opinion, but it's important to remember that we're all in this together. Treating others with kindness, even when we don't see eye to eye, is essential for building a sense of community and creating a positive environment for everyone.
When we act like jerks, we not only hurt people, but we also diminish our respect; again, it's okay to have strong beliefs and stand up for what we think is right, but there's no need to belittle or demean others in the process. Compassion not only benefits those around us, but it also brings joy and fulfillment to our own lives.
Sadly, these things are often easier said than done. So, as a reminder that we should strive to make the world a better place for each other, we at Bored Panda put together a list of those who don't. We hope that karma catches up to these inconsiderate weasels.

According to Dr. Valentina Stoycheva, the author of The Unconscious: Theory, Research, and Clinical Implications, empathy is dependent on having developed a 'Theory of Mind,' which is the ability to understand and share the emotions of others.
"Many factors, such as upbringing and personality disorders (such as narcissism, for example) may result in an inability to experience empathy," Stoycheva told Bored Panda. "In addition, some people may situationally struggle with this if they are in an active state of being traumatized or have significant mental health difficulties. As a result, temporarily, they may have a hard time empathizing with others due to a lack of internal resources to do so."

I remember reading about this on the Leicester live site. Support workers used to be provided by the NHS but due to so many cuts over the years they are provided by private companies now with some of them undertaking little to no vetting of their staff. My daughter has six hours of support a week and luckily the company her support workers come from is very good at weeding out the bad apples, all main carers (like me) have a direct line to the boss to report any concerns.
Ask to go onto a Direct Payment - then you control the vetting, training & activities. It's more flexible and person centred

I don't like this but there is a chance he told her he would hold them. To be clear for me whether he asked to or not would've been a no for me. It looks like they are on his trey. She shouldn't of allowed him to hold them. Just a quick oh no I'll hold them or set them on the ground. She also could've put them on the back of his chair like the other bags are.
To be clear, this actually happened in the Leicestershire region of the UK, in 2016, and the disability assistant pictured & this incident was investigated -- she was dismissed from her "homecare assistant" position.

I teach in the Health & Social Care Sector in the UK. I train/teach care workers, nurses, social workers etc 99% care workers are amazing people who do so much more than just 'care' Unfortunately the 1% bad care workers out there (and the media exposing them) have tarnished the reputation for all. It is heartbreaking to see this - I remember the news articles at the time - and this lady has been barred from working with vulnerable people though our DBS system.

Midwest US here. I know in my area we get HIGHLY unqualified support staff for two reasons. 1) The pay is SO BAD that often the least able people with the worst work histories who can't get other jobs are the only one who apply 2) Here, different residential facilities take different persons who need different levels of care. The problem is those facilities self select as to what level of disability they will accept. The more bed space that's filled, the more money the place makes. That gives facilities a financial incentive to take on residence that have a higher level need than they can provide. The upshot, workers with zero skills taking care of people that need higher levels of care. It's terrible.
Did anyone do anything about this??? I hope so! My day is officially ruined and I hate people

I am a social worker, working with people with mental handicap, autism and violent behavior, in Switzerland; this is clearly a point for being f-ing fired and be forbidden to work with vulnerable people after. Sick. (Sorry for the potential mistakes, English ain’t my mother tongue)

I would be so mad at seeing this that I would have followed this piece of s**t back to the care home, asked to see the person in charge and showed this picture to them. Only showed it, mind you, so that they could react accordingly. The actual photo I would pass on to the local press, along with the name of the care home for good measure.

I've worked with this population, and there's a reasonable chance he said, "please, you've been pushing me all day- let me hold your bags." Something similar happened to me when a client insisted on putting her wheelchair in the car herself. I stood py willing to help but she had it, and I got glared at by everyone... but to give her this crumb of independence, it was worth it. Not saying it's for sure what's going on, but it very well may be.
What a f**k. I am sure that a lot of care workers do not give a c**p for the old or disabled people that they care for. Bodies hired to fill jobs…..Minimally skilled. This or a fast food joint.
Or maybe some people are just s****y! I'm a care worker and I assure you myself and my colleagues care very much for the people we look after! We are also not just carers and we do lots of training and have the opportunity to gain qualifications up to degree level, which many of us do.

The good thing is that egoistic behavior can be modified. "Empathy is a part of high EQ (or emotional intelligence)," Dr. Buscho explained. "It is a skill that many people can be taught through therapy and a desire to develop more intimate relationships with friends, families or partners."
However, she said that if someone doesn't recognize their deficit of empathy or isn't motivated to develop it, it will be difficult or even impossible to remedy, even with professional treatment. "Therapy would be helpful, as would coaching and feedback from others, ... [however,] certain personality disorders are so entrenched that the egoistic behavior may not be changed unless the consequences of that behavior are so painful that the person becomes curious or motivated to commit to change."

Recently, researchers asked people to look at photos of the area around a person's eyes (the person is making a particular kind of facial expression, and the study participant had to identify what that person is thinking or feeling from a set of possibilities).
To see if cultural differences impacted empathy scores, data was collected from teams around the globe. Merging their results with large samples from different online platforms, the authors of the study were able to capture results from nearly 306,000 people across 57 countries including Argentina, Croatia, Egypt, India, Japan and Norway, and in 36 countries, women scored on average significantly higher in their cognitive empathy scores than men did, while in 21 of the countries, their results were similar.
There wasn’t a single country in which men scored better, on average, than women.

As sad as it is, the worst things done to me were from my own parent. Every day I was told a new way how I am worthless and no one will ever love me. I drank myself nearly to death at 20 before a friend saved my life. We've been married over 10 years now and he tells me everyday how amazing I am.
Unfortunately, parents, and family in general, can be a person's worst nightmare. Some people should not be allowed to have children. Fortunately, you found a person who helped you. I do hope you have nothing to do with that toxic person anymore. You don't owe them anything. You deserve to be happy!

In this new year, we have to not act like these types of people. Being a decent human being will not hurt you, it will show the world that you have the capacity to care for others. We all need to think about other people and not be destructive or petty or rude or inconsiderate. Doing the right thing may require a few extra steps, but at least at the end of the day, you will know that you were not a jerk to someone. If you are sick stay home. If you are in the grocery store and you decide you don't want something, go put it back in its proper place. If you are romantically interested in someone and they don't like you accept it. When you go into a restaurant, don't leave a huge mess. Don't be racist, homophobic, xenophobic misogynistic, or anything else. Now more than ever, we need to be decent to one another.
I sometimes wonder if any of these bozos ever see their posts out on different sites. If so, do they ever take the time to read the comments as well. Then I come back down to reality.
