Have you ever found yourself arguing with someone you perhaps even don’t know that well about a topic that some people might find not that interesting or important and you felt right about it to a point where you would be ready to do whatever it takes to prove your point? Well, it’s probably safe to say that you’re not the only one who has found themselves in such a situation. For this reason, Reddit user @u/Youhavemystapler11 was curious enough to ask others online “What’s a hill you’re willing to die on every time?”. The question that received 32k upvotes encouraged others online to share matters that they strongly believe in and would not let anyone change their minds.

A lot of these answers included topics on certain people’s behaviors, social constructs, and everyday encounters that might sometimes seem to be annoying, such as people who won’t use a turn signal when they’re driving. If you want to read some more interesting answers, you can find them here and here.

What is one thing that you hardly believe in that perhaps wasn’t mentioned in the list? Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments down below!

I'm a teacher now and spend between $100-150 a week to help feed my kids snacks, apples, bananas, and noodle bowls. If a kid is more focused on their hunger than school, it's a wasted day for them. I go through 4-5 boxes of cereal a week and a couple gallons of milk, too. I remember being them when I was a kid and hunger sucks

Regardless of the economics of the households, lunches provided by the schools is a great idea. It leaves less pressure and energy in the evening and/or morning to have to come up with a school-safe lunch that is healthy and allowable, and there's less worry about forgetting lunches at home. The students don't have to go to school feeling self-conscious about what was packed and having kids judge their family economic situations based on what was in their lunches and how it's packed. There would be no reason to beg for cookies and attempts to trade with other kids. It's a win/win because the teachers would be assured that the kids come back to class with nourished, energized and able to focus.

100% agree with you. I'm in New Zealand and a huge percentage of kids are provided with both breakfast and lunch at zero cost to families. A child with a full stomach is settled, calm and able to learn.

Every day. They fed those kids every day. I often wondered if it came up in parent teacher interviews or if they just assumed those people didn't have the money for it.

I despair for humanity. Every kid deserves to eat. That's why we congregate in societies, to protect the weak amongst us. Instead so many people have that "what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine" attitude. They'd rather lose money than give something for free to someone else. Case in point: USA health care policies. We could all pay less and cover everyone, but then the insurance companies wouldn’t make their astronomical profits. We can't have that, can we?

Universal healthcare doesn't mean universally of all health related matters. Canadians often have to pay through private or work insurance, or out of pocket, for dental and optometry. Yet going to the clinic and hospital is mostly covered under provincial public health.

Some dental and vision issues can be covered under medical health insurance in the US at least. I think this would be one of them. It’s the same if you get something dangerous in your eye like metal or glass. Your medical health insurance will cover that.

I did the math once and the yearly cost for dental insurance was more than what the dentist charged if you paid yourself for the 2 regular check-ups a year. TBH sine I have been with out health insurance fro 5 years I have found most things cost me less a year than what I would be paying for health insurance. Health insurance in the US is strictly to cover emergencies other than that you are just making the corporations richer.

You may think this….until you reallllly need it. Insurance is simply transferring a risk you may or may not ever have in your entire life to someone else, to give you peace of mind. Once you payoff your car or home- coverage to that tangible property you own is optional. If you can bear the risk and sleep at night that a tornado might blow your house down tomorrow, or burn to the ground….that is your choice. Most reasonable people weigh this and decide it’s more sound to keep insurance coverage. Same thing with your health insurance. You can gamble you will never need it. It’s not mandatory in the privatized system, but most people predict they will statistically need it in their 80 yr life expectancy, so they buy it.

Wouldn’t matter. So many dentists in my area don’t even contract with insurance companies because they don’t want to have to accept insurance rates, which they claim are too low. And they also don’t want to do the pre-auth and other requirements. I never trust a dentist in a beautiful, brand new office that is out-of-network.

The way my High School law teacher said it "Anyone can commit murder. The law doesn't prevent people from committing crimes. It's a suggestion that you shouldn't do it. Just know when you're caught there will be consequences." When you think about it in that light, people are capable of doing whatever they want and society has no real protection against those who are going to do whatever TF they want. You're not even protected from being revictimized. No law or piece of paper stating a restraining order will physically prevent someone from doing anything to you. Once that settles in the world feels less safe.

That is not what freedom of speech means. It means you cannot be disappeared by the government for disagreeing with or criticizing their policies. So you are allowed to voice opinions counter to the government without being kidnapped and killed by the government you are critiquing, and newspapers and pundits can say "I don't like that" or "this is wrong" without fear of being killed or captured by the government. It has absolutely nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with family or neighbors

Especially for going to concerts. At our arena women have been singled out and told we're not allowed taking purses and bags with us to games and concerts. When I'm going to a concert next week I'm just taking my keys and wallet. I'm hoping it won't look suspicious, like as if it's "odd" a female didn't take a purse of extra stuff with me because that's what's expected. Women are told to leave our purses in our cars. Yet we're also told not to leave valuables and purses in our cars. We're just constantly micromanaged. That's what it is. Micromanagement of what we can and can't take with us and how we carry our belongings.

So as I man I struggle with this concept. I have been hearing this for years and it never seems to get better. Would it be naive if me to just say don't buy pants that don't have pockets and manufacturers will soon get the message. I can only assume that women are buying these so there's no incentive for the manufacturers to change.

It's kinda hard when all pants are made that way. It's as if all the manufacturers unanimously decided no or small pockets for women's clothes. And if you forego pants then you're left with skirts and dresses which usually never have pockets anyways plus it could lead designers to think that its a new trend and just roll with it; it's just frustrating

40 Bizarre Beliefs People Will Defend Until The End Of Days, As Revealed By Folks Online Seperation of church and state! Keep religion out of politics and decisions that effect everyone

There is a reason the Founding Fathers explicitly kept church and state separated. They knew the history of bloody wars that were fought on religious grounds, so did not want their new country to have a “state religion”, but to make religion a personal choice—-and that choice a Constitutional right. They knew religious bias has NO place in government, as that leads to persecution, so they purposely did not set up the US to be a place that makes such government sanctioned persecution a part of life here.

But Ben Franklin called for prayers at the Constitutional Convention, and wanted America to have a civic religion. Basically, political authority and ecclesiastical authority are separate. We have First Amendment rights. But the government trusts in God, and society's laws are based on society's values. Churches have free speech to address moral issues of public policy.

Still don't see how Churches, Synagogues and other "holy" places get away without taxes. I own land and pay taxes, they own land and SHOULD pay taxes on the property. If they can't afford the taxes then the parishioners aren't either and if it defaults to the government, sounds like a perfect time to change those places into soup kitchens, housing or literally anything else that would help people than having a giant empty space that no one uses. Just saying.

Not to mention those parents themselves being threatened with the loss of their job because they stayed home to care for their sick children for what their a*****e emplotpyers consider to be too many days.

I pay school taxes and have no kids and never will have kids. If I have to already pay a damn tax then what's the big deal if it gets raised a few buck maybe? Because literally, it will only be a few extra bucks and won't leave you homeless. I don't even like kids and am very detached from people in general but even I think kids should get some damn food in school.

The mindset that there is such a thing as a starter home is part of the problem. The idea that most people have is that you buy a small place for cheap, live in it for a few years, then sell for a profit and buy something bigger. But your profit makes the house prices creep up (because it’s only a real profit if it’s higher than inflation) to the extent that housing becomes unaffordable. Sure, there are leeches that drive up prices to the extreme. But ‚housing ladders‘ where you increase the size of your residence a few times by the time you’re 40 is certainly part of the problem. It’s a pyramid scheme that leaves the last generation hanging.

Right now people are complaining about not enough nurses, doctors, store employees, engineers, other ancillary medical help, etc. For some it’s how they are being treated, however for some it’s their paycheck. If the burden of student loans is off their back a job paying a little less may look just fine. And this could snowball into patients paying less. Of course the insurance companies need to quit being greedy bastards as well.

Unless you have PHD,MD, FNP education, the majority of medical jobs do not put students in 25 yrs debt due to student loans. Nurses,2-4 years, radiology, technicians, surgery techs, nutrition, LPN, CNA, all are reasonable education timeframes AND many teaching hospitals, etc pay for the majority of their educations in exchange for promissory agreements to work at that facility after graduation. Other than Drs, most of these jobs are severely underpaid for what hey do and hours they commit. Right size this, allow healthcare workers to do what they are trained to do, STOP the privatization of our hospitals and care facilities to for- profit businesses and the costs will come down. ….most hospitals and large medical group facilities in US look like 5 star hotels. New, shiny, marble floors, glass, huge empty spaces, piano players in lobby etc…. It’s ridiculous….buy more nurses! Do more research! Stop spending money on non- health related buildings. I wouldn’t mind in the least if the walls need repainted or if the floor looks tired. I care about the equipment you are using to keep my loved ones alive and the nurses and staff ample to give their best to patients….

To me it's just loser parents. The mother wishes she was a beauty queen and the father wishes he was a sports star, so they try to capture some of that by living vicariously through their children. And it's not always what the child wants or needs. People can't seem to grasp the simple truth that we are not all supermodels (A really stupid term. look how well she walks!) pro athletes/ rock stars or world class musicians. Please stop trying to make your children something special in your eyes or what you wish you had become. If your kid isn't already special to you as they are, it's time for some serious reappraisal of your life and relationships. Have a nice day!

The epitome of shortsightedness. Considering that we now have two countries, India and China, who have too many men and not enough women. So the family names their parents were all concerned about are going to die out anyway, just a generation later than they feared when having their strictly male babies.

Disappointment is not an unusual or wrong emotion. There may be many reasons for wanting one gender over the other. It's how you deal with life's disappointing parts that's important. That being said, You should never have a child knowing you won't love and provide for them just because they aren't your preferred gender

Agree with this. There is nothing wrong with wanting a girl after 3 boys. There is nothing wrong with wanting a boy when everyone in the family has had girls and you want someone to carry on the family name. Though I would argue that if you are THAT desirous of one gender or another, maybe not have a gender reveal party…

In my country, finding out the gender of child before birth is illegal as boys are more preferred so if parents found a girl child, they’d do anything to abort the baby. They may also kill the child after birth. (I feel this generally happens in rural areas)

    StrangeOne

Canada raised red flags on this, too, because a high number of people of certain cultures were scheduling early gender-revealing ultrasounds and noticed a higher number of abortion appointments for female fetuses. Abortion is allowed here but has to be done before the 5th month of pregnancy. (Sorry, I don't go by weeks. That is my hill I will die on.) I don't think it's necessary illegal but some Ob-gyns will not tell you the sex of the baby before the legal abortion cut-off time for anyone and, unless something medically is potentially wrong, you won't be able to get more than one ultrasound during pregnancy. I had one at 4 months and then I was refused another one just to curiously find out the sex. If you're lucky enough to get a later ultrasound and it's far enough along to be able to tell, then you can know. But that was also 20 years ago. I think some things have changed since then, as I keep getting corrected by more recent moms. But that's what was explained to me.

But there is gender disappointment that is very real, especially if you have a case of it being a 2nd, 3rd, etc child. Even if you don't find out until the birth. Yes, I want nothing more than a healthy baby, but after 3 boys it can be hard for some to not get a girl.

My friends ultrasound said it was going to be a boy. They did everything in anticipation of little Michael, embroidered blankets with his name, boy themed baby shower, and a toy train nursery. Of course out popped little Annie. The dad was so upset and rejected the baby for a good week or so. My friend had a hard time accepting her baby because her ( abusive) husband was being so awful and she went into post partum depression for at least a month. Thankfully their were amazing grandparents to take care of baby Annie

Neither is voicing an opinion that’s different from your own. Also, if someone actually knows more about something than you do, respect it. They’re not attacking you, they’re merely informing you, based on their education and experience, so instead of shouting them down or getting offended and having a fit about it, just listen and allow yourself to learn. That’s the difference between an intelligent person and an unintelligent one.

Some of the best insights and information I've received came from people who meant me no damn good. Your enemies will tell you truths that your friends won't dare to.

If you have 3 items in a row (red, yellow, blue) in a sentence, there is a debate as to whether proper English writing of the listing is: A) red, yellow, and blue (comma before ‘and’) or B) red, yellow and blue (no comma before ‘and’). Oxford comma is (A), always putting a comma before the ‘and’.

Not using an Oxford comma makes sentences look really weird for me. It is somehow asymmetrical, unbalanced, and odd-looking. It is like the rhythm is disturbed without it.

I find the exact opposite to be true as I was taught to never use a comma before an 'and'. It all comes down to how you are taught and what you are accustomed to.

Retirement age sounds reasonable. Government needs a huge infusion of new blood, new ideas, new viewpoints. Politicians are making decisions now that will affect generations to come, and I would like at least some representatives from those generations to have a voice. Also, there should be a limit to how many consecutive elections you can be on the ballot for. It’s perfectly fine for politics to be your career—-for a while—-but not one you only leave by dying of extreme old age.

I think there should be a maximum age for positions as well. When you're 76 (Trump) and 79 (Biden), you have very little motivation to care what happens outside of yourself and your friends. A 45 year old mom with two kids genuinely cares about paying for healthcare while those two old men get it for free via Medicare. She worries about getting fired and being evicted by the landlord since she can't buy a home. Those two old men have paid off their mortgages and retired via social security and investments. She worries about climate change and whether she'll watch her children die of starvation and is risking 40-60 years of her life if we don't fix things. Those two old men are risking 4-10 and will be dead before it gets too bad. Disclaimer - I am on the wrong side of the line myself. People younger than me should be running the world.

This and judges should not be politically appointed. There are non-governmental entities that monitor and make suggestions for appointing judges based on their history. This should be the actual way judges ascend to higher positions, not by a political party.

Don't forget their salary needs to be capped at the median for their state and their benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, etc.) needs to be equivalent to that which is most common in their state. After all, if they don't actually know how their constituents live how can they be truly representative?

Let's all keep in mind that our current President, Senate Majority AND Minority leaders were all born during WWII; before color TV became commercially available; 30 years before the first personal computer was sold; before penicillin was available for medical treatment; before the polio vaccine was available. It's time to institute a retirement age. I love my parents, who are about the same age, but I would not want them running the country. 84% of Americans are under 60. Our leaders should be at least somewhat representative of the population.

We as citizens are able to term limit office holders. Sad we don't dig down , or that we have such short memories regarding what they say/do. Had an exchange student from Denmark, I told her Dad how jealous I was of some of their social policies...Uni health, pensions, 30 days vacations, etc.. I asked how they do it. He told me "You have to watch them every minute". So it would not work here. Not enough civic engagement

Term limits and no more pensions. They can have a 401K like everyone else out there along with healthcare that's only available while in office, not for life and I'd prefer it to be in step with what our military personal coverage is. Perhaps then they would care a bit more about those individuals.

My pet peeve. Small town libraries can absolutely become the life blood of an area when they provide computers and printers and classes especially for stuff like life skills like understanding taxes and mortgage, as well as literacy for children. I used to be on the board for our village library and I've seen children who've never held a book in their hand become enchanted at books. Video and movies are nice and all, but books open entire universes in your mind.

I believe that the advent of technology taking over our lives is actually the ‘dumbing down of the populace. How many people and youth actually go to the library on their own regularly and grab an armful of books? I am guilty of this as well, used to go weekly and get books on different subjects as well as literature. Now how many people go and explore authors and subjects?

In my small city we once had a person, in all seriousness, stand up in a city counsel meeting and advocate that the city library be defunded because it was a waste of tax dollars. His argument was that the people who used it should be the people who pay for it and people who don't use it (like him) shouldn't have to contribute to it. Later he went on to run for a seat on the city counsel; he lost by a considerable margin.

If a politician did not start being a politician by being active in the community, they're not a leader. They're not in it to help others. They're narcissists, not outsiders. It's no wonder why politicians suck when people keep voting for those who have never proved their intentions. I'm particularly aggravated by this right now, given it was just Election Day and I live in Ohio.

I no longer consider myself to be a Christian because of the toxic stew of judgment and control that it has turned into in my part of America. However, if you read the Bible, you find that many prophets were very reluctant to accept that role. Like Jonah. Often the best leaders are not those who have sought it, but those who have either avoided leadership or stepped in only because of seeing a need.

Every time we roll out a red carpet at work for a politician I cringe. It's so pathetic and simpering. We don't roll out red carpets for the mail person or the trash collector. That's what politicians are. CIVIL SERVANTS. It shouldn't come with riches, fame and power. They're administrators, not royalty. And yet, the sycophantic proletariat is constantly treating them like they are. Sickening.

Ok. This reminded my of something. A youtuber put 2 community polls up, one saying 'It's ok to hit kids as punishment. Y/N?' It was like 60% no, 40% yes. The other said 'It's ok to hit pets as punishment. Y/N?' That was 95% no, 5% yes. I guess the logic was that the pet starts associating the owner with the punishment, not the action, but STILL. Like 30% of people who answered thouht it was ok to hit kids but not pets. IMO, neither is OK. Feel free to debate it in the replies, but this is the hill I will die on

The Manitoba government thinks minimum wage is only for "young adults just starting out in the workforce. It's not supposed to be a career goal. We're not raising the minimum wage to match inflation". These people are so out of touch about what's out there for jobs and how much is needed to live. $10 for a bag of oranges, now, at the supposed cheap grocery stores. You would have to work about 45 min to afford a bag of oranges.

That’s what minimum wage was created for in the US too. Basically high school kids living at home, who weren’t paying rent and bills and definitely not trying to support a family. But employers latched onto it during recessions (take your pick which one), when people lost good jobs and all they could get to tide them over were minimum wage jobs. Same goes for entry level jobs that now seem to require an entire career’s worth of experience to get. Additionally, minimum wage needs a huge overhaul, as it is still based on vastly outdated prices for rent, food, bulls, and other basic expenses. If $8.25/hour is considered to be the minimum for a family of four, I would like to see the justification for it. I would like to see those refusing to raise it beyond a 1980 level try to get by for an entire year on it. In 1980, $8.25/ hour was good money for someone starting out. But that was over forty years ago. Even double that amount isn’t enough anymore.

The disparity of how the living standard is now compared to when the minimum wage was introduced is just gross. The minimum wage used to mean one could buy a house, live comfortably, ( as in good food, enough for essentials). Basically, by reducing the living standard it means that people are ‘too busy trying to survive to object to issues.’ There was actually a fairly well known documentary that referenced from government information that ‘in the 1960’s ‘people had too much time’- there were a lot of protests. The idea that ‘if people were busy trying to survive they wouldn’t have the time to protest, assemble etc, ( this isn’t a direct quote, just the meaning). Everything we are experiencing in the decrease of the living standard is entirely intentional. I remember making $10 hourly, working full time and my apartment was $120 PER month. It was large, in a good area. Basically I paid 1/16th of my income in rent!!! Groceries were about $75 per week! I could save about $800

PER month if I didn’t work overtime. Oh, and the overtime? Amazing. Time and a half for over 44 hours, double time at 50 hours, triple time at 60 hours(?). I then moved to a place in a very expensive area, got a gorgeous, gorgeous apartment for $400 per month. Opening up the market to Airbnb, getting rid of rental caps/rent control was a calculated move by the government to deliberately lower the living standard for most people. The middle class is disappearing as a result. We are heading towards communism.

I read somewhere years ago that there are steps to deserve forgiveness: recognizing what you did was wrong, feeling genuine regret, undoing any damage done, resolving not to do it again and being forgiven by the person who was wronged. I remember when I was a kid being forced to apologize. Being a smartmouth, I said, 'Fine, I apologize, but I am not sorry.' Also, not an apology then either.

Not to take away from anyone's comments...but we love playing that game 'sorry' when we were kids...I think my sister has it now, will have to ask her to bring it over at Christmas...we play board games after lunch and present giving. Always apologise, not doing so can cause more lying, and embarrassment, avoidance...list goes on, the world will keep turning, and I feel better being true than false. Some people will never change, keep hoping that they will try

You can euthanize a beloved pet animal and put it out of it's misery, but a human being has to lie in their slow death for up to two+ weeks to "die with dignity" while their loved ones wait for the "death rattle". It's horrible!

Exactly. I watched my mom in the hospital with stage 4 breast cancer for 4 incredibly long weeks and it's honestly caused me a lot of trauma. It has always bothered me that I could take my animals to the vet to have them peacefully pass when they're starting to suffer, but my own mother didn't have that luxury. I would have been happy to end her suffering, but instead all they could do was increase her morphine dose while I watched her lose her mind and watched the cancer eat her up a little more every single day. It was hell having her go from begging me to kill her because she was in so much pain to not even knowing who the hell I was. That is something I will always have to live with and I strongly believe the only reason they don't allow people to die is because dying people are very profitable. Our healthcare system is meant to make people money, not to help sick and dying people.

I think you’re trying to say that “The right to assisted suicide should be universal”. I’ve never seen anyone prosecuted for successfully committing suicide. I’ve yet to see a successful prosecution for dying. I’ve seen prosecution for assisting a death so I’m assuming that’s what you mean. I think assisted suicide is something that’s still open to debate. There’s a lot to consider with that one!

You'd shadow a train driver and then drive trains yourself, always with a train driver at your side. No pay for you as a student, but the company does have to pay more to have you there. Teachers fee for the train driver, overnight costs, uniform etc. Is that an internship?

You are of little value when you are a newbie and internship is a way to get experience and learn. You get something, the employer gets something. It is also a motivator to get the JOB and an opportunity to show you would be a great hire.

Also a chance to get experience and see what the career might be like. If they had to pay a good salary for someone that doesn't know what they are doing, there would not be an opportunity to for some to show experience applying for the paying job. And the majority of the time the intern that does well ends up with a paying job at the same company.

It's not just worker's exploitation, but those that can afford to intern for free often have the resources to do it, excluding those that, given similar abilities, cannot afford to. It's another way to perpetuate a class system while exploiting future rich people that will perpetuate it.

40 Bizarre Beliefs People Will Defend Until The End Of Days, As Revealed By Folks Online Die Hard is a Christmas movie. The plot does not exist if it happens at any other time. John McClain is there to visit his family for Christmas. The bad guys are at Nakatomi Plaza because there's less security during the holidays. The people who are taken hostage are there for a Christmas party. Christmas is an integral part of the movie, therefore it is a Christmas movie.

I’m 61, and can remember how scalding hot coffee and other hot beverages used to be served back in the sixties, seventies, and eighties—-I burned my mouth many times trying to take an initial sip. It was undrinkable until it cooled down for at least an hour, maybe more, after you got it. So her lawsuit was most definitely valid. I noticed that, after it was settled, all places that served coffee and other hot beverages turned the temperature down to a drinkable level.

The most damning witnesses against McDonald's was its own safety experts. They had been telling management for years that there was a severe safety problem with coffee temperature, but they were ignored. Knowing that there is a serious problem and declining to do something about it is the legal definition of negligence.

When I worked at Tim Hortons the hot water and coffee was always at boiling temps. Some people would order the hottest water or coffee they could get, filled to the rim. Total safety hazard for employees and customers. You can't convince me they drank it at the temperature and not let it cool down a bit. I always thought maybe they had seared off their nerve endings a long time ago. Hot drinks are supposed to be very warm but not realistically THAT hot.

I am Italian and I secretly like pineapple pizza. I live in constant fear that they are going to revoke my Italian citizenship. That said, I hardly ever have it because the pizza joints that serve pineapple pizza usually make a lousy pizza in general.

40 Bizarre Beliefs People Will Defend Until The End Of Days, As Revealed By Folks Online Getting compliments as a Dad for normal parenting behavior. Yes, I can feed, bath and put to bed a 9,7, and 2 year old. No I didn't need to call my wife for direction. No, the house didn't burn down. The praise you are heaping upon me doesn't make me feel good. It just makes me feel bad for you, your kids and your husband.

The purpose of praise is not always to make someone feel good. When I praised my students, it was to encourage them to continue their efforts and to identify models to other students. You may not need to hear the praise, but there may be fathers in the room who need to hear you getting it.

The praise that matters to me is the excitement my son shows to see me and be involved with everything I do. Even if it's a 5am "daddy I missed you and wanted to see you" or the "Daddy look/watch/do/explain" every 5 seconds haha

I lost one of my beloved uncle this year and had to leave my kids for 2 days with my partner, their father, the guy who is raising them with me since they are born. Well a father of my kids school was surprised that I went to my uncle's funerals because how my man was supposed to take care of our offspring during 2 days.... I should, at least, have leave the kids with my mother (who should have miss the funerals of her BIL who was a membre of her family for 40years not to mention her mourning sister and nieces). Still not sure what century he came from.

Civics, as well as Geography, should be reinstated as part of public school curriculum. It was a bad move to remove them, as much as it was a bad move to keep teachers from teaching anything not on “the test” that determines school funding.

I think if more people understood how government works, they would vote more and it would lower the temperature of the political divide. A president is not a king. The Supreme Court doesn’t make laws. And so much more.

The basis of the US constitution and the functioning of the three branches of government is included in the (mandatory) citizenship curriculum in the UK senior schools! I've taught it as part of a unit on international systems of government. It never occurred to me it wasn't universally taught in the US itself!

I guess they don't already because it's easier for the cleaners to swing their mop under the gaps rather than mop every individual stall. The height of the partitions is probably just about money.

I hate it when the cleaners swing their mops under the door of the stall you're in and get it on your shoes. So rude and invasive. The height is not about money. It's really about invading the privacy so cleaners and other staff, if they want to, can peer in and see if you're doing drugs or need help. Problem is other people will do that anyways to "see if there's anyone in the stall" because they're too lazy to knock.

I've always thought the reason toilets are like this in the US was to discourage illicit sex and/or drug abuse in the stalls. Some UK public toilets used to have a door that was short by a couple of inches so you could see if there were two sets of feet there, but they never had side gaps you could see right through like they do in the US.

And furthermore, if there is a stall with empty stalls on both sides TAKE IT! Nothing creeps me out more than being the only person in a public bathroom with more than three stalls and some idiot takes the stall right next to me. I said that to someone once and she replied, "I thought you had to fill them in order." Idiot.

The treading does not last that long and also they look stupid. Don't get me wrong, people are entitled to wear whatever they want on their feet, but it should be "you get what you pay for". Plus, while they certainly ARE very comfortable at first, the cushion wears down quickly along with the treading. They are not worth spending a lot of money, so I agree with OP.

I have to disagree, but they're a trip to watch being used. The heat from the burning tip creates a gentle suction (the "candles" are hollow) and would pull the pus from the ear infection out of my child's ear, which eased his pain so we could sleep until we got to the doctor's. Unless you get terrible wax buildup in your ears, I don't think they're useful as a regular thing. My son's specialist wasn't thrilled with it, but he wasn't there for the pain and crying. Again, it eased his pain. It does not help to cure an infection.

And DJs should NOT talk over or cut off the beginning and/or end of a song! Additionally, does the station really have to stop playing music for hours on end, just to play some a*****e’s talk radio show? I want to jam to tunes during my commute, not listen to some out of touch a*****e jabbering for hours with other out of touch assholes. I doubt I’m alone in this. Talk radio should be limited to its own stations, not steal hours of music from other stations.

They should also cut down the commercials. People are not listening to the radio, because every two songs, there's like 10 minutes of commercials and it goes like that. So in order to fix that, the radio stations are putting even more commercials, because who would care about people! Why we should cut commercials down? That's stapid!

Not to be an advertisement for anyone, but several years ago I took a job with a rather lengthy commute. One of my co-workers recommended getting satellite radio. My reaction was, "No way I'm _paying_ for radio!" But a free trial later and I was hooked. I can't even listen to the ads on free radio. "Act now, call 123-555-0023. That's 123-555-0023! THAT'S 123-555-0023!!!" Un-alive yourself in a fire.

Switch to a non-commercial station. The one I listen to has a large bank of songs and also has a variety of shows for different genres, for example a metal and punk show one night, a blues and roots another and an Indigenous show on another one. Plus they are government funded and not allowed to play ads.

Disagree. Ella doesn't need a romantic interest and the love kiss Ana received was from Elsa, her sister. It was refreshing. We need to show kids more and more that love comes in many ways. This over-focus on romantic love is ridiculous. While there is some romantic stuff in the movie, it was not the focus of the story,.

I think that depends on the moral fortitude of the individual. For instance, I played in a football team and on one occasion some supporters were allowed to travel on the team coach. The footy lads (my mates) were all seated at the back, with the supporters toward the front. There was some harmless banter flying around but at one point some of the lads took it too far with a female supporter. I made them aware of this and they changed tack. I asked and she was fine. No harm done. If they are really your friends, they will listen to you. To overlook bad behaviour because you like the person doing it is exactly the same as if you were doing it yourself.

Sadly, horribly true. A group of Christians central to keeping republicans in power voted for a greed-centered, immoral, unrepentant, power-hungry candidate who literally does not care about other people's lives, simply because he convinced them he could give them what they wanted. We can be terribly blind to what is really going on when we think we are in the right.

Can't afford the vet, can't afford the pet Edit: clearing some thing up Financial situations change and that's okay. My point is that if you in could afford the pet itself, but not medical care, you most likely shouldn't get one since it's one of the most important things you need to take in consideration when getting a pet. You don't need to have 20,000$ saved up, that's not what I'm saying, but you should have _some_ kind of emergency savings for sudden expenses to make them easier to handle financially

In my opinion, a pet is like a kid. You have one because you want one, but their needs have to come first. If you can't meet those needs you shouldn't choose to have one (I know not everyone that has a kid chose to, I'm not trying to start an argument about that). If someone needs the companionship, but can't afford basic vet care, there should be supports for them in general, not just free vets.

That is too severe, and I disagree. Many pets are adopted from shelters. If everyone was expected to have extra vet $$ stashed away, millions of pets would never have a home and love, and millions of people wouldn't experience the joy of a beloved animal. There are charities that can help with vet bills, or as a last resort, give up the pet to a no-kill shelter

I have no issue at all with people needing to relinquish a pet because their financial situation changes, but what I cannot abide is abandoning an animal on the street. 40 Bizarre Beliefs People Will Defend Until The End Of Days, As Revealed By Folks Online Nuclear power is the best middle step we can invest in to power us through building all the renewable energy. It provides great jobs, is exponentially cleaner than burning fossil fuels, and is safe when done properly.

If people rolled the costs of what pollution from fossil fuel plants do into their economics we wouldn't build any. Nuclear is far safer and the nuclear waste far less than people realize. Coal ash is more radioactive than nuclear waste.

The problem starts with the planning. There are a couple of designs for nuclear plants, and they are sold/built around the world...without considering things like earthquakes or tsunamis. Then, you have to rely on the skill..and sobriety of the people building the reactor. Limerick was built on a fault...and the builders were not without complications.

Continue using current plants, by all means. But at this stage it is too late to call it a good middle step - it takes at least ten years to get a new nuclear plant up and running, and renewables can be built quicker and cheaper, so why not go straight for that?
