40 Times People Outed Themselves As Awful Parents After They Humiliated Their Kids
InterviewSome people are so desperate for love, attention, and likes that they’re willing to do practically anything to draw in the crowd on social media. The sad fact is that some folks out themselves as bad parents when they take to humiliating their own kids for clicks. It’s worse than it sounds, dear Pandas.
We’ve collected some of the most egregious cases of horrible parents making fun of their children, as shared on the 2.1-million-member strong ‘Insane People Facebook’ subreddit. Of course, everyone’s sensitive information is kept private to protect them. But the posts show the very low lows that some folks stoop to just to impress… well, we’re not really sure who they’re trying to impress with such despicable behavior, really. Warning: some of these pics deal with neglectful parents and might make you uncomfortable or anxious if you have experienced anything like this yourself.
If you have any faith in humanity left, keep a tight grip on it, Pandas, because you might lose it. When you’re done with this article, you might want to take a look through Bored Panda’s earlier list about r/insanepeoplefacebook right over here.
Bored Panda got in touch with the friendly moderators who take care of the entire r/insanepeoplefacebook subreddit for a chat about people wanting to get attention on social media. You'll find our interview with them as you scroll down.

Taken From A Parenting Group I’m In
The moderators running the 'Insane People Facebook' subreddit spoke to Bored Panda about how some people fixate on getting attention on social media far too much.
"If social media causes you to neglect important aspects of your life, like work, family, friendships, health, then you have a problem. If it's causing you emotional grief or becomes the central focus of your life then it's a problem," they warned what folks should look at to see if they need to dial back and reprioritize.
Mom Sits In The Bathroom While Her 13 Year Old Showers
I'm just wondering WHY. They're not watching (thankfully), the curtain is closed, so why are they there? Some kind of paranoia that the kid will slip and fall?
Load More Replies...Let’s turn this around. Suppose that’s your 13 year old daughter, and your husband insists on staying in the bathroom while she showers. Still think it’s funny?
Pretty sure the 13 year old is a daughter as "oldest son" is 9. But still creepy af
Load More Replies...All kids need and deserve privacy. Yes, the specifics very much vary by age and individual child but this, this is just... weird, disturbing, disgusting. Idk. So many things come to mind. It's just gross.
Hell yeah he does.. How else is he sposed to beat like it owes him money?
Load More Replies...These people are f*****g freaks. My mom was one of those nutbag people who think "privacy is a privilege, not a right" and yet somehow it's also a privilege we could never seem to earn no matter what we did. We didn't have doors, on ANY frame in our house and she would read through any journals or diaries we wrote so we just learned never to leave a paper trail. These people are going to really mess their kids up and they're going to regret it when those same kids finally get some space of their own and say "sayonara" to their oppressive parents.
This is my parents a little, they used to take off my doors too. Then they would complain about me taking to long in the bathroom.
Load More Replies...Boundaries...boundaries Otherwise you plant deep darkness in your child.
That's disgusting! 13 yr olds NEED privacy! heck 10 yr olds need privacy
I think that sometimes Mothers intentionally train their kids to live with them forever.
Those kids are going to need therapy. I can't even remember having a "guardian" in the bathroom. Yes I'm kind of ancient but still.
My kids prefer it when I am near because they want to tell me lots. It is a bit of one on one time - no other siblings who interrupt, or tv or game or pets or other distracting things. I hear great thoughts from them when they shower. Edit: if they want privacy they can get it. We are not that prude about nakedness. Also , often I want to do other stuff but they keep calling from the bathroom to tell me stuff. I even have to remind the youngest (almost 8) when he is going to the toilet: no I am not going to stand here and have a conversation. Want to say something toilet related like " out of tp or the new roll out of reach" fine. But no conversations through closed (or opened) doors. Keep the door closed, keep the smell in...
My nephew didn't want to take a shower. I think he was about 9. It got a bit physical with me pushing him toward the bathroom and him pushing away. I won but it was close. (He's taller but I have a solid lower center of gravity). I asked if he also needed help with the shower itself. He declined my help. Did he actually take a shower? I don't know but he was in the bathroom alone and the water was running. Good enough. Would I have followed through with helping him if he called my bluff? NO.
yuck I get with babies and toddlers but like 9 and 13 is disgusting
That's just gross! This woman has some control issues. Did I say this is gross?
Hello! Ms.purple bar, your local 50's house wife here to say that this is emotional incest and borderline pedophilia you can and most likely will get the cops called on you, sad this needs to be addressed but you NEED to stop, until next time good bye!
My goodness. No way. My kids started taking their own shower/bath really early, like ~ 6 y.o. Can't they get their own towels. For Pete's sake, leave them alone. I'm guessing you don't knock on their door and waiting for permission either.
But why? I have to wonder what this parent thinks she is accomplishing here.
Was was showing on my own when I was six! I mean, my mom was in the other room but not in the bathroom
What is she afraid they will do in the shower?! They sneaking drugs in there?
I went to school with a girl whose father would sit in the bathroom and talk to her while she was in the bath. She was 17.
My kid wanted me with them when they showered until they were six or so, then they wanted privacy. I just did what they wanted.
We only have one bathroom in our house so of someone's in the bath or shower and you need the loo you just go in anyway. My 11 year old likes a chat too so yes sometime I (f) am in the same room as her but not to check up or in a creepy way. Purely need / social.
Same in our house, except we have a lock on the door which can get annoying
Load More Replies...This is terrible what if the 13 year old wants to masturbate in the shower (something normal for teenagers). is this sicko just going to sit there and listen 🤢
I think their point may be too prevent them from masturbating. That's the only reason I can come up with that a parent might do this. Not that I agree at all, my kids were bathing alone at around 5 or 6 years old.
Load More Replies...i’m 15 and my parents still won’t let me sleep by myself smh
Man, I was glad when my kids got old enough to not need me to be in the room when they were bathing. But then, I never had a problem with my kids maturing or learning new skills or becoming more independent, that was my job, to raise them to be independent people able to strike out into the world. I can't imagine how much time those mothers waste hovering over their kids.
Oh my. A two-year-old I would still want to protect from hurting themselves. But when a child is nine or 13 they should learn to value and like privacy.
i could almost understand staying close for a 9 year old... but 13 is old enough to know to wash everything and not need reminded... and it bordering on icky
A woman I know demanded to stay in the room while her 16 yo had a complete physical .
i couldn't imagine having anyone in the bathroom with me while I was showering (yknow unless they really have to use the bathroom and the other one is being used)
And they'll wonder why their child is still living at home at 30 years old, waiting for mom to hand them their towel.
As a mom of a special needs child not about how old but how there cognitive ability
omg weirdos.. and you wonder what is happening in this world. You have it right here.
What is she afraid they will do in the shower?! They sneaking drugs in there? 🤦🏼♀️
Unless these kids have health issues there is no way a parent needs to be in the bathroom. Talk about helicopter parent.
Thats wrong just wrong ..13 yo need privacy when bathing thats just beyond weird ..
I have 6 kids, the oldest any of them were when they were allowed to bathe unsupervised was 4, After that, I just needed to knock on the door to remind them to cut it short as others needed a bath as well.
My 12yo son asks me to stay with him while he showers, I don't mind, but as soon as he wants to, I'll leave him be!
Once my granddaughter got to about 9 I thought it was ok to let her shower/bathe privately. I did however hover close by but not intruding just in case she slipped or something.
To be fair some old kids with ADHD kind need to be reminded to move on to next part of showering... my 12 year old granddaughter. I don't stay in the whole time just sometimes she don't answer so you have to see for yourself where she is in the process. Lol
This is disgusting and the mother is a pedophile!! She does this cause she likes to see her older children naked! She should be f'n arrested!!
On A Post About Gentle Parenting Being Effective
It's no secret that some individuals bend the truth quite a bit for the sake of getting likes on social media. According to the moderators, common sense is very useful when it comes to identifying online lies. "We can often tell by reviewing a user's post history or other users may point out that the poster is not being truthful," they shared some of the things that people can consider when judging whether an internet user is trustworthy.
The r/insanepeoplefacebook mods explained that they're all volunteers, so there isn't necessarily someone "on duty" 24/7. "Moderation is basically a hobby for us. We do have a large mod team distributed across multiple continents so we have pretty good coverage," they said that they have a great team and they all do their best to create a welcoming, friendly environment.

"Furthermore, users have the ability to report rule-breaking or offensive content. When enough reports are detected a bot will automatically remove the post and the mods will review the removal," they explained how things work.
The mods stressed to Bored Panda that they don't allow members of the subreddit to post someone's personal information, such as names, usernames, locations, etc. They're also very strict about content that features children and do their best to remove them when they come across them.

When I read news stories about kids who crack and end up shooting their parents, I always wonder if this kind of thing was going on behind the scenes.
During an earlier interview, Bored Panda spoke about the r/insanepeoplefacebook subreddit, its history, and community with a couple of moderators. They noted that it’s great to see the sub having become so successful over the years.
According to them, a new generation of moderators took over from the old guard. The subreddit really took off during the 2016 US presidential election when Republican Donald Trump went up against Democrat Hillary Clinton.
"I've been here for four years or thereabout when we had 300k subscribers. The community has grown rapidly since the 2016 election and now has 2 million subscribers. It's become much more political over time as well," one of the moderators told Bored Panda.
"The subreddit can get very busy just because of the number of people who use it. Our biggest challenge is generally interference from other communities but we do have tools that deal with that. That's probably our biggest challenge," they told us.

“My Daughter’s Devastated… Let Me Publicly Post Her Crying On Facebook And Brag About How ‘I Made Every Team Easily!’ Suck It Up, Buttercup!”
"It's a fun subreddit to moderate because our users are very engaged. Never a dull moment," they said that the job of a moderator is pretty fun.
Another moderator, u/Merari01, stressed that the sub has gotten incredibly busy since the 2016 elections.
"The subreddit has gotten a lot more busy since then and like most everything else since 2016 can get pretty partisan at times. The team moderates fairly and equitably within the existing ruleset. One thing we do not allow is when people try to use the subreddit to post something racist or bigoted and that's something we look out for," they explained.

Ah, Yes… Public Abuse And Humiliation. Maybe Now He’ll Be A Great Baseball Player!
One thing that r/insanepeoplefacebook is known for is inspiring the creation of other similar subreddits. And that’s a cause for celebration among the mods. "It's great! It's a measure of success when a subreddit branches off into other communities."
u/Merari01 said that the moderators of the sub tend to be as busy as they want to be because there’s always work to be found.
"You can micromanage and check every comment made, but who has the time for that? Mostly we check the queue and the front page of the subreddit. We're all experienced enough to see when a post is made that will likely attract problem comments. In that case, we often choose to lock the post. We're all volunteers here who moderate as a fun hobby and no-one wants to continuously press F5 to stay on top of rulebreaking material in that case," the mod said.

Just because you don't remember it doesn't mean it never happened. 16 year olds are jerks because growing up is tough. They're learning, pushing and testing boundaries for a new stage of their life. I'm not excusing the things I did to my parents back then, but it is hard to be a teenager.
"We have an experienced team that communicates with each other about moderation and policy issues and our community can be funny and empathetic. Like with all social media it has its downsides in that sometimes negative things get posted but all in all the good far outweighs the bad," the redditor shared with us.

Social media and popular culture expert Mike Sington, from Hollywood, knows that people can start bending the truth quite a bit just to get some attention online.
"Getting clicks and amassing followers on social media is how success is defined. For many, it becomes addictive, and the more attention your social media gets, it actually creates an adrenaline rush. The monster feeds itself,” he told Bored Panda previously.

"A good sign of people going overboard in seeking attention and recognition on social media is when they start exaggerating or making things up. thanks for yet another horrific & depressing list to make me lose even more faith in humanity, bp. child abuse is toooootally the kind of content i come here for. /s
Like so much of BP, this is merely a subreddit discourse/dialogue that was appropriated by BP for LISTertainment. Often times, these message threads or conversations on Reddit have a socially redeeming value. That BP “lifts” them for a “readers digest” buzzfeed type lists can often be problematic. I agree that out of context of the originally published discourse, used for entertainment here, it isn’t always positive or healthy. I tend to read these horrible lists here then go to the original conversation on Reddit to discern what that dialogue is about. That way I don’t feel like I’m solely participating in being a bystander or using them schadenfreude and instead gain insight and knowledge from the intended context.
Load More Replies...Should have a trigger warning. I'm not sure I can think of any good reason to have published this list. Anyone who's entertained by it shouldn't have encouragement for sick behaviors towards kids, or solidarity and justification for the way they act. Everyone else is only horrified and made upset. We weren't told if any abusers were stopped and kids helped, there were no tips on how to help such situations or how to look for signs of abuse etc., nothing here that helps make the world a little better.
exactly what i said up above, i'm glad to see someone else agrees. some of these posts would be useful in a psa about overlooked signs of abuse, but that isn't what this is. bp isn't the platform to be posting evidence of child abuse. it sickens me that an entertainment site is compiling such awful things. i can't believe someone tried to pull the "if you don't like it, why'd you click it?" on me in a reply. it's child abuse! why would anyone support that being publicly shared for someone's sick enjoyment?!
Load More Replies...Couldn't read through it. It was just awful. Since when is child abuse funny and/or entertaining? More feel good content and less of this please!
Yup. I wanted to do a lot of punching and yelling about how wrong and horrible they are. I'd hardly be setting a good example... but it might make them see how it feels?

There are "degrees" of child abuse, but this is not s contest. Any level of abuse is abuse and should not be tolerated. It's true that some parents burn their babies with cigarettes or beat their kids to death. Yes. True. But that doesn't make the situations in the post less terrible. Child abuse can take different forms, but the consequences won't be less serious.
Load More Replies...I don't think I've ever seen more malicious and stupid people in one article. I wish they were so stupid that they couldn't figure out how to reproduce.
I'm not sure how many there were but I stopped at #14. I just couldn't anymore. So much abuse. This is the most depressing (and hurting) list I've ever read on BP.
These are all flat out abuse and I hope the majority were reported to cps or authorities when necessary, it's just sad that people actually behave that way.
I'm sure I'm not the world's best parent, but I couldn't make it more than half way through this depressing list of how NOT to be a parent.
Came here to say this. How dare they treat ANYONE like this but a child, their own child? What a disgraceful list of shits.
Load More Replies...This thread right here is the reason, why people who want kids should take mandatory psychological evaluation before they are allowed to have a child. Included in the evaluation would also be IQ testing and general knowledge test. Those who fail are not allowed to have children. If they do, the kids will be removed from them. Those who prove to be Narcissistic Psychopaths or have other serious mental issues, are to be castrated and placed in institutions which would take care of them and remove them from society.
You'd be accused of elitism if not downright eugenics (even though it was nothing to do with eugenics). Hell, I think people should have to take a general IQ test and a current events test before they're allowed to vote, but I know that won't happen.

Some (not all, but some) of these are Quora Partner Program troll questions. They likely never happened.
We're good now, but when I was still a kid my parents got a divorce. Amicable split, both living in the same town. I went to live with my mom. Due to circumstances I was sent to live with my dad (where all my other siblings were as well). First thing he told me was basically that he was not a "rescue" or "foster" house. I could live with him, but if I ever chose to leave I wouldn't be welcome to live there ever again. I didn't choose to live with him, I was forced under circumstances. And what kind of a parent tells their pre-teen, who had no choice, no say in the matter, that basically they're not welcome unless they commit to stay until adulthood? What kind of parent even puts conditions on taking care of their own child at all? Not even a bratty teenager, but a young child who never spoke up, did chores, babysat siblings and the likes. Years passed, we've had fights and talks, things are good now. I love my dad and he loves me. But he would have gotten the "most shitty parent of the decade" award for sure!
These parents will make this trauma therapist quite wealthy with all the crap they are pulling called parenting
I honestly don't have a problem with the one where the girl puts on oil to give her the courage to climb higher. Essential oils don't really do anything or cause harm outside of allergies, so let her enjoy the placebo effect while it's still young enough to work. May make her more confident when she's older. But pretty much all the others are wack.
One day there will be a license requirement to have children, right? It has to happen.
Holy crap I can't finish the list otherwise I would *try* to put my fist through a wall. Obviously the wall would win that one. And I need my hands for work.
It’s so hard to upvote such horribleness. I wish there was a big middle finger and a snarl we could choose instead.
I couldn't make it through the entire page. I'm a mom and I just cannot fathom behaving so poorly as a parent. My heart aches for kids that go through such horrible treatment. I cut my mom out of my life last year and it was the best thing I ever could have done for myself. I wish I'd done it many years ago. Super toxic.
Please do not do that. Other people suffering does not mean that you can't also struggle and feel upset at times. Don't invalidate their emotions or subject them to such horrible stories. The world is bad enough without dumping more of such darkness on young minds who are already dealing with the anxiety that often seems to just come with being a teenager. (I realize you might be joking about sending it to them but I'd still rather discourage the idea for anyone).
