Folks Online Share 30 Celeb Scandals That Sparked An Excessive Uproar
Interview With AuthorThis century was, hands down, a total circus of celeb scandals: Chris Brown's assault on Rihanna, Harvey Weinstein's sexual misconduct, Ariana Grande and her doughnut-licking incident, Taylor Swift and Kanye West's feud, Ellen Degeneres' maltreatment of employees, and about a gazillion more.
However, the media is also known for blowing things out of proportion, so today, we're going to focus solely on overhyped controversies that surrounded our beloved (or not) stars!

Britney Spears when she had her meltdowns. The woman was bullied and harassed at such an insane level, it would make anyone snap.
then people should aslo stop to read this s**t
Load More Replies...Her family is probably half the reason she had the psychological crisis.
Load More Replies...When South Park starts looking like a documentary, it's definitely time to take a step back.
Then she was controlled by her father for 13 years as an adult! WTF!!!
God, I feel so horrible for what Britney Spears went through. I understand that she is dealing with trauma and mental health problems and truly, truly hope that she gets the help she deserves to help her on her path to recovery.
Not to mention, having 0 time to do anything but work. I would've done it sooner.
Most people have a hard time after a breakup, the publicity probably made hers much worse. And to be honest, Kevin never got seen that way, either because he wasn't being hounded by the press the way she was or because he simply wasn't as affected by the breakup as she was.
"Reddit, what outrage over a celebrity was way overblown?" – a netizen who goes by u/vantae-bts recently took to one of the platform's most informative and thought-provoking communities, inviting its members to share famous celeb dramas that really weren't that big of a deal. The thread garnered nearly 11K upvotes as well as 12.1K comments containing some pretty interesting answers.
Now, it's your lucky day because Bored Panda has managed to get through to the author and pose them a couple of questions!
The OP is a college student in the US who was inspired to post the question online after having a conversation with their mom about the outrage. BP then asked the web user to shoot back and answer their own question, to which they replied: “I'm thinking the Britney Spears and Madonna kiss.”
Monica Lewinsky- America did her dirty.
Not that it makes it ok, but her story is really inspiring. She managed to learn a lot about herself and came out the other end an amazing person. Fun to follow on Twitter. Very funny.
She was willingly and knowingly having sex with a married man. Zero sympathy.
You do know about a little thing called grooming and power imbalances, but sure, let's blame women. Not the president who happens to be the most powerful man in the nation?
Load More Replies...Actually since she told a friend she was going to earn her oval office knee pads she knew exactly what she was doing. She deserved everything people were saying about her.
She f*cked a married active president, what did she think was going to happen? Choices have consequences.
Awesome woman, badly treated by threatened wives/mistresses and angry fat, ugly, baldy blokes pretending to be wealthy
For those of you who don’t know or perhaps had not yet been born when the "scandal" occurred, u/vantae-bts is talking about the famous on-stage kiss Madonna shared with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during the performance of one of her biggest hits, "Like a Virgin," at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.
Due to the rather conservative views in the early noughties and the fact that public display of affection, let alone a same-sex one, was fairly uncommon on TV, the smooch sparked quite a stir and gripped the headlines for weeks!
When the female soccer player won and took off her shirt, and had a sports bra under it. My God, you would have thought all of the world just witness their first look at a stomach
And then a female beach volleyball team got heavily fined because they decided to wear shorts instead of skimpy bikini.
new rules: dress the way you want? just no nipples nor genitalia?
Load More Replies...I also remember when the women's U.S. World Cup soccer (football) team got told off for being "overly cocky" for winning. God forbid, they were told off again for asking for the more money when male players were making more than them. Why is confidence and occasional cockiness alright for men's sports but shunned in women's sports?
Double standard. Just like if a man has many partners he’s a stud but if a woman does she’s a whore.
Load More Replies...Brandi Chastain. She had just kicked the winning penalty kick to win the freaking world cup so yeah she was excited and celebrating. It was so stupid. Bikinis are more revealing than her bra was but American society can be pretty prudish on things like that which is frankly stupid.
Americans were mostly offended. I think it was because they were looking at FLAT stomaches and couldn't handle it.
ikr! i saw pictures and stuff and it’s not like she stripped down! it was the guys in their moms basement who had never seen a stomach before trolling online
I'm a Nigerian, our Nigerian Women Football Team recently won a game against Australia at the FIFA Women's World Cup tournament. A player of ours scored and took her shirt off in celebration and I can confirm that some knuckleheads in the country are clamouring for FIFA to take away our win because the girl committed a "sin". It's f*****g dumb and the height of stupidity if you ask me.
TBF it's a yellow card offence if a male football player does it. But it wouldn't make the news.
Any female celeb who was shamed for existing. Anne Hathaway when paparazzi took and published an up-skirt photo when she was exiting a car. Miley Cyrus for legally smoking salvia with her friends in her home, or when a world famous photographer took a photo that the media deemed whore-ish, despite it not being her idea and she was a kid AND was covered. Brittani Spears for being a human and not perfect, etc. the media is hard af on women for just being human.
Salvia divinorum is a hallucinogenic plant that can be smoked. Sativa is a kind of cannabis.
Load More Replies...No, they're hard on women because they're women and the press wants sexy or salacious photos of them.
We hope that you've enjoyed this interesting collection of celeb scandals that folks online believe were blown way out of proportion! Let us know which one you agree with the most, and don't hesitate to add your own examples in the comments section down below.
People were angrier at Billie Eilish mouthing an anti-Asian slur from a Tyler the Creator song when she was 15 than actually being angry at Tyler the Creator for ADDING THAT SLUR INTO THE SONG in the first place.
And also how a chunk of her fan base retaliated on her for growing up and changing her style. These NUTS act like they own people lol.
Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction.
This - Justin was the one that actually ripped her top off but she took all the blame and shame.
If there was any "blame", it would be on both of them for a lame publicity stunt. Janet's people admitted at the time that it was a planned and choreographed move. When it all kicked off, they said the issue was it was meant to pull away to reveal another layer of fabric over her breast, but during the show that section got caught on the outer one and pulled away as well. So either it was a lame attempt to get attention from both of them, or a genuine wardrobe malfunction, in which case neither should have any blame or shame
Load More Replies...If you read Janet Jackson's commentary about what happened it was NEVER intended to go that far. Justin got out unscathed from the "scandal" and Janet Jackson never really recovered from it. I can't believe how nuts America went over a freaking boob.
Load More Replies...This was so obviously planned. She claims it wasn't but the tear away was there and she was wearing a pasty.
It was planned from the start. No shade...we're still talking about it. How many other half time shows do you remember?
George Michael being asked by an undercover cop if he wants to see his thing, he said sure. So everyone found out he was gay and that was a huge no no. Gay meant pervert back then. Really sad and he never recovered mentally. Pisses me off. Just wasn't fair.
This comment seems like someone who wasn’t around or is too young to have related rewriting history. Gay meant gay back then. I know, I was very out & gay back then. Gay may have meant pervert in some places or with some people back then, as it still does today. There wasn’t some paradigm shift where everyone thought he was a pervert (most people I know thought it was sad that was the only way he could have physical connection) & now everyone feels horrible for how he was treated. To be clear, he was cruising for secs with other men in the restroom. Cottaging. Cruising. He was arrested for that. It wasn’t a random sting, but a common over-policing of an innocuous crime, albeit still a crime.) Guys are still getting arrested every day for this all over the world, because it’s typically not legal to have secs in public restrooms. The issue was how he couldn’t live his authentic self as “Yog” and still maintain his success as “George” if he were outed.
I think the major issue is that everyone is entitled to be in control of when they come out. Being baited, arrested, and having your sexuality splashed across the international media is NOT being in control of when and how you come out.
Load More Replies...He did a good job at rolling with the punches though. He even released a music video where he's dressed like a cop and iirc there were a bunch of other cops dancing with him. He just owned it and rubbed it in the haters faces.
I'm not particularly a George Michael fan, but I think that song and video ("Outside") was a brilliant response to the whole situation.
Load More Replies...This is not how I remember it at all. He was outed by this, yes. He took control of it in the most brilliant way, and his career didn't suffer at all. What he didn't recover from was recreational drug use. No evidence of that being related to his sexuality at all. And it didn't start when he was outed.
Gay meant pervert? Whoever wrote this makes it seem like he came out in the 1950s or earlier. He came out in 1998. It also seems like OP has an extremely vague, inaccurate memory, or heard about this from a friend of a friend of a friend.
In the US, the conservative party has made an entire platform of demonizing gays and drag queens, calling them groomers and pedophiles.
Load More Replies...i thought is was because he was caught playing with himself in a public toilet
Good looking, talented, but HEY! Human and the world lost a great artist when we lost George!
i am not gay but if anyone would ask me to show me his s*****g, i'd also say yes. there are pretty awesome schlongs out there and why wouldn't i see them.
Simone Biles not being able to perform at the Olympics.
Fox News got outraged over an athlete, who was having issues and couldn’t perform
I remember people crying about how she “stole” from other athletes who would have otherwise taken her spot. “There’s a young woman who could have gone to the Olympics if *she* didn’t want to do her job!”
I also vaguely remember when people screamed about her taking adderall. Which she was prescribed, and wasn’t taking it as a PED.
Also, keeping up with the US women’s gymnastics - when people got up in arms ahout Gabby Douglas not putting her hand over her heart for the national anthem. Bro, she represented your country, she clearly isn’t anti-American
Yes. Her not being able to connect her mind and body could end up with her paralyzed if she performed.
She decided not to perform and everyone lost their mind, like she owed them something.
Seriously-the twisties are nothing to be shamed for. She could've very easily broken her neck and died had she performed.
All of those people who belittled her and called her a coward were truly heartless and probably never played a sport. It was almost like she was just a nameless automaton that was just forced to perform at such an insanely high level. She showed true strength in taking her mental health into account and speaking up about some of the horrible abuses in the world of competitive gymnastics.
The world of competitive gymnastics is so excruciatingly toxic. No matter how amazing your accomplishments are its never enough.
Simone will always be a star in my mind. You detractors will never know what these olympians (or just to get there) go through. I'd rather be in a bar waiting on a house full of Karens than even attempt to do what she or her team mates / competitors do.
Has to be something like vertigo - absolutely dangerous to have tried to perform. People are horrible.
Obama being distracted and [not returning a salute](https://youtu.be/Np7lObaDiBk) from a Marine while boarding Marine One, despite immediately going back down the stairs to acknowledge the guy and shake his hand.
Idiots at the time claimed the pilot wouldn't let him board, as if any serving officer would end their career disrespecting the Commander in Chief who as a civilian was under no obligation to return a salute in the first place.
Also the time Obama did salute, but had a coffee cup in his hand.
anything that obama did was put under a microscope and criticized. it wasn't about the man in the tan suit - it was about the tan man in the white house.
He asked for Dijon mustard once, too. Clearly too much of a snob to be POTUS, say people who voted for a guy with gold toilets in his Manhattan penthouse.
Load More Replies...Kind of like when the Orange Moron saluted a Korean General. No outrage from the republiCons.
And when Trump went to North Korea, he saluted one of their soldiers! The soldier had put his hand out to shake and Trump saluted him.
Had to work out the POTUS for a minute.....😂😂🤔🤦♀️ you guys really love those acronyms.
We really do. I have entire conversations in acronyms at work daily. It's a bit ridiculous!
Load More Replies...The right complained about anything any of the Obamas did. The were shocked that Michele wore a sleeveless top, when just about every other First Lady did. Actually over 25% of republicans in Louisiana blame Obama for the hurricane Katrina response! Some don't let facts stand in the way of their opinions.
Rea*an started retuning salutes and the uninitiated thought that presidents had to return salutes after that. Rea*an did serve in WWII stateside in admins functions, mostly in recruiting offices as a poster boy. the closest he got to combat was demobilizing soldiers returning stateside after they had served. He did demobilize pilots Clark Gable and James Stewart on their return. He asked for, and was granted, a non-combat, stateside posting. He spent most of his time in uniform making training films, when other actors, directors and other filmmakers actually went into combat like the aforementioned Gable and Stewart.
I thought you were not supposed to salute if you didn't have a cover?!?!?!
Depends on the service. Army can salute in any uniform, with or without cover

The Chicks (formerly Dixie Chicks) and the whole thing with George W Bush
Earl is where he belongs. Would you like some ham and strawberry jam? I hear two enterprising women have a cute little booth.
Load More Replies...And the same people who got mad at them about saying F George Bush now regularly say F Joes Biden or Let’s Go Brandon. Hypocrites.
yep, right wing entails hypocrisy because it's logically inconsistent. See e.g. foetal rights vs schoolchildren safety rights.
Load More Replies...Pfft they have the absolute right to b***h about the president. So many idiots back then were saying its unamerican. B******t that's absolutely American to complain about Politian's. Those were much more innocent times though.
The problem was they were correct. And WE KNOW the good ole boys hate it when a woman is strong and speaks out against said establishment.
Funny thing was the audience at the show was significantly American who largely (and loudly) cheered the comment. Once it hit the news days later I was confused by the backlash that didn't reflect reality of the gig I went to
Natalie Maines said they were ashamed that the president (Bush) was from Texas. And, of course, all the future MAGAs got mad because she had the audacity to exercise her first amendment rights as a woman.
Load More Replies...I couldn't believe what happened to the Chicks after their comments in England. The backlash was incredible to me. I'm really glad that they stayed together and persevered.
Kaepernick kneeling
This even more!! I come from a military family, and I worked for US Navy & USMC for 23 years - extremely patriotic husband , family, etc. And I will attest to anyone that the way he did it was NOT disrespectful . He showed the utmost respect for.flag & national anthem, while protetsing a serious injustice. Yet all the conservatives want to speak on our behalf. KMA, he was right, he was respectful, then he was villified and run out by the NFL. M****f***ers
And the thing is he spoke with a Green Beret about this as he wanted to turn his back to the flag and the GB told him to kneel. And like your family, I served so he could do this.
Load More Replies...The ones who were upset over this never even served in the military, or if they did, they didn't understand the meaning of freedom or why they even served. My husband is a navy war veteran and he said Colin had every right to kneel. It's his right and freedom to do so and wasn't disrespectful at all. A military veteran was the one who advised him to kneel in the first place. The conservatives are the true snowflakes; they get upset over silly things. Barbie, Bud Light, Obama's brown suit, etc. But oddly enough, they seem to not get upset at all when our little children are gunned down in schools by weapons of war. They want more guns instead.
More context. Sports used to just be sports. But, then in the 1940s (WWII era), singing the anthem was added to encourage patriotism. In recent years, the military (especially the National Guard) have paid NFL teams millions of dollars for advertising and for special 'honoring events' which are really just quasi-recruitment. Showing up to play football but really being turned into a advertising tool for a US Military (and given the historic issues of how black men were over-drafted for the Vietnam War), is going to feel like a big bait and switch to many athletes.
The frothy mouthed, spittle spewing, conservatives wanted so badly to say in public, as loud as they could, that their problem with Kaepernick was that he was being an uppity ni**er. Since they couldn't do this and maintain any real level of societal respect they cycled through a few other descriptors before finally landing on Kaepernick being un-American because he disrespected the flag and soldiers. Since these frothy mouthed, spittle spewing, conservatives are so utterly f*****g stupid they can't understand that an American Citizen exercising their Constitutional rights is being patriotic and, by exercising rights that have been fought and died for, immensely respectful of the flag and Constitution. On the flip side, any American who would try to make another American cower through fear of disenfranchisement is the definition of unpatriotic and disrespectful of the flag, Constitution and the men and women who have fought for both.
To give a few more details here. Colin Kaepernick was an NFL Quarterback who, in the prime of his career, after having played in the Superbowl, opened a season by kneeling down on one knee during the US national anthem, which is played before every sporting event. He revealed after the game that he was protesting police brutality and racial discrimination and wanted to use his platform and influence to speak out against these things. Very quickly, conservatives in the US claimed it was disrespectful to kneel during the national anthem, saying it was disrespectful to our troops. You're "supposed" to stand with your hand over your heart or at attention in a salute, so they made it into a whole thing about that, and as other players throughout the NFL joined him, it caused it giant conflict. It was a bunch of BS, people boycotted the NFL, and eventually the NFL took action against kneeling. Eventually Kaepernick was blackballed, no team would sign him, and he hasn't played since.
Load More Replies...To many Americans, the Second Amendment is the only one that counts. The First Amendment might as well not exist.
Kaepernick's kneeling during the opening ceremony was a firm commitment to his beliefs. He was exceptionally brave and strong that day knowing the consequences would be devastating. I totally respect that man and his decision. He started a revolution that is still peacefully going on today and I hope it continues. There is no need to "respect the U.S" that has done so much harm deliberately.
Colin Kaepernick's first act of protest was sitting on the bench and fiddling with his helmet during the anthem, not kneeling. (Look it up. ) During the following days someone suggested to him that kneeling was a better look than pouting on the bench - or turning his back to the flag, which he was contemplating - and he was smart enough to take the advice. "The Kneel" started the following game...and the rest is history. (Whether history would be a bit different if he hadn't done the sit-in before the kneel, no one knows.)
you know who told him the kneel would be better? a veteran. a former effing Green Beret.
Load More Replies...Yeah, as a non American that whole thing was baffling. Then again the whole pledge of allegiance thing is baffling anyway, to non Americans it just comes across as weird and culty, (it screams of brainwashing)
it screams of nationalism. and many Americans, myself included, have protested that. Once my brother refused to stand and recite the Pledge in high school. His teacher mocked him and made him stand. My parents LOST. THEIR. SĤÎŤ. and the school's solution was to move my brother to another class. It smacks of mindless meaningless patriotism. and yes, brainwashing.

No doubt that Martha Stewart was accused of insider trading and put in prison, yet every politician in Washington become millionaires from insider information. The amount she made was minuscule compared.
As was mentioned every polition in alphabet city does the same thing
She told the women at the prison she was in that if they shared their recipes with her, she'd give them credit and a share in the proceeds of her prison cookbook. She lied.
And, the amount she made wasn't even the point. She did what she did and deserved to be locked up. Anyone who puts her on a pedestal is just wrong!
Given her wealth at the time and the amount she made it would be the same as you or I finding a dime on the sidewalk and picking it up.
Obama’s brown suit
The US right said it was disrespectful. I never got why, it was a nice suit. But then, they hated pretty much everything he did. They also slammed him for using Dijon mustard on his burger.
Load More Replies...Lol!! I never thought of it this way but I’m using this from now on!
Load More Replies...ahahaha. Just like when they lost their sh!t when Michelle wore a shirtless dress. But a butt naked Mrs Trump was ok. (hey i dont really care if they wear clothes or not, its just the double standard)
Ronald Reagan and Joe Biden both have worn tan/brown suits as President. Now folks are losing their minds with Biden wearing a tennis style shoe. We still can be silly on our picking our battles apparently.
i'll say it again....it's not the man in the tan suit but the tan man in the white house.

She was invited by the Library of Congress to play the antique crystal flute that once belonged to President James Madison. It was 200 years old.
Load More Replies...Upset over a flute the majority of Americans did not know existed. Don't forget that.
Yeah, first I've ever heard of it. Maybe there was more to story but on the surface that sounds like ..."and I don't want black people to drink out of the same water fountain" and other Jim Crow era nonsense.
Load More Replies...What was wrong with someone playing a flute? Particularly if she were actually good at it?
this really p*ssed me off when this happened and everyone went crazy about it ... kudos to our girl Lizzo tho... she handled that sh*it like a pro!

Remember when Jessica Simpson wore that hideous outfit and every news outlet everywhere talked about how huge she was and how much weight she had gained and she was like 105 lbs? Yet everyone was outraged that she was so “huge” and not that these crazies were calling a 105lb woman “huge”…
I want to say that it is a picture of her on stage wearing high-waisted jeans with yellow (?) top. But I am not 100% sure

Yeah, they should all be sued. 105 lbs? Honey if ever see 105 lbs again, I would be on my deathbed. As always, the media is wrong and deliberately abusive.
Quick math says she should be 154cm or shorter or she's underweight at 105lbs which is 46,7 kg. So unless she's a 5"0-5"1 shorty, she was too thin
The controversy about Meghan Markle being mixed.
So f*****g what?
As a Brit I can honestly say her race was never an issue for most of us, and being a multicultural country most British people were thrilled at her marrying into the Royal Family. The reason she has become disliked is because of her constant griping and 'poor me' act. She has made a lot of money from the very institution she claims to despise. To be fair, it's not just her as Harry has received a lot of hate as well. They want to have their cake and eat it. They don't want to be working royals, but won't stop using their royal titles and demanded titles for their children as their 'birthright.' Archie and Lilibet were not entitled to the title of prince or princess before the Queen died due to not being directly in line to the throne, but they implied that it was purely because the children are mixed race. How can you claim you want nothing to do with an institution but at the same time keep using the name to cash in? A lot of the claims they've made have already been proven to be false and they've backtracked already on the claim that they said the royal family are racist. Their wedding cost the UK about £30 million and people lined the streets and had parties to celebrate their wedding. It's a shame because she was given a platform to make positive change for BAME people but she didn't take it and seems more intent on just being rich and famous and pushing her own agenda. She wasn't exactly a global superstar prior to marrying Harry and apart from fans of Suits noone had heard of her. The US is welcome to the both of them.
Very well said. This is what the majority of Brits feel.
Load More Replies...People don't hate her because she's 'mixed' ... there are lots of other reasons
As a Brit I can honestly say that everyone I spoke to was over the moon when Harry got engaged to her, her race wasn't an issue.
The bigger issue is that she’s a grifter who married a spoiled toddler.
Not a lot of people cared about her race, with most people not even realising and thinking she was a bit Essex tanned. People got mad because of how she acted. I'm happy that more people are now noticing the cracks and the media have finally had enough of her.
I'll be for real, I had no idea she was mixed until she started with the racism stuff. And I believed the racism stuff could have been true (I like to see stories from all sides so didn't jump to conclusions but understood that it very well could have been true just because rich white folks absolutely do hide racism often.) After that she just started sounding more and more like my abusive narcissist ex and that's when I started disliking her. When they got married I just thought "oh cool, a beautiful American marrying a prince!" I just hate to see the people who rage hate her so badly that they'll troll the dumbest things. Like I literally saw someone making fun of her outfit being wrinkled after she got out of a car. Seriously???
Load More Replies...And for people claiming she brainwashed Harry. Pretty sure he’s been rebellious since day 1. And so what if he wanted to step down? Why are people so up in arms over that?
See the post from Emma S below for an explanation as to why. Edit - the post by Emma S is now above.

Seriously. Sometimes it feels like the reason they keep winning in this stuff is because they literally have no dignity or self awareness. All I've ever tried to do is be fair and accurate about politics and make sure people know that my own personal views aren't dogmatic and I'm fully aware I could be wrong and then there they are taking advantage of that and being hypocritical as f**k. No she wasn't, that's the problem. It was a staged photo. "His undoing began with a photograph, which was released by a conservative talk-radio station on November 16, 2017. The image was taken in 2006, the year before Franken first ran for the Senate. At the time, he was on his seventh U.S.O. tour, entertaining American troops abroad as a comedian. The photograph captures him on a military plane, mugging for the camera as he performs a lecherous pantomime. He’s leering at the lens with his hands outstretched toward the breasts of his U.S.O. co-star, Tweeden, who is wearing a military helmet, fatigues, and a bulletproof vest. Franken’s hands appear to be practically touching her chest, and Tweeden looks to be asleep—and therefore not consenting to the joke." https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/07/29/the-case-of-al-franken What is concerning though, is that in the wake of it there were a lot more accusations made against him. They're also mentioned in the article I linked.

Any of them getting canceled for saying 1 bad word 10+ years ago.
"Cancel culture" is good because all the bigots and other unabashedly s#itty people are finally facing consequences for their actions, but also bad exactly because of this. Denies people the chance to be better and grow.
Your point of view is ridiculous. Absurd, in fact. Cancel culture is disgusting, bias and offensive. There are so many people that said and did things when they were younger, that they no longer feel nor believe. They should not be canceled because of something they did 10, 15, 20 years ago. I don't know about you, BUT .... most of us are not the same person we once were. Nor do we/they deserve to be canceled because of who we/they once were.
Load More Replies...I mean, we're still sorting this out, as a culture. Before there was no record of people doing horrible things. Now we can show histories of s****y behavior and choose not to support crappy people. That's welcome to free markets the hard way. That being said, no one in the history of the world can handle having every little thing they say and do recorded and analyzed to death with 20/20 hindsight.
Any one of you stand up and tell me you didn't say or do something stupid 10, 20 or 30 years ago and I will call you a liar. Did you mature from then? Is your outlook a bit more worldly? Then I don't think you need to be cancelled over a dumbass mistake decades ago. Just my opinion.
That's the worst thing about cancel culture. Criminals have the chance of living normal lives after coming out of jail, but someone says something stupid and ruins his career many many years later. This should not be.
Hate to break it to you, but the American Republicans are just as "cancel happy" as Democrats. Cancel culture seems to be indifferent to political leanings.

Jenna ortega taking a cigarette and drinking wine
And this is a topic for a scandal? Really? So the society has no other topics to discuss I guess. Good thing people don't know that she sometimes uses toilet, too
Hell, she may even have sex at some point in her life! How dare her! /s
Load More Replies...oh no, an adult woman doing adult things! I think people are confused that because she played a schoolgirl in Wednesday, that she is in fact, a schoolgirl. THE WOMAN IS 20 YEARS OLD. That, in the majority of countries that AREN'T America, is a perfectly legal age for drinking and smoking if she wanted to. Idk what country she was in at the time those photos were taken, but honestly, how much do people really care, you're going to tell me that underage drinking has never been a thing and that your college self or whatever didn't partake in some sneaky booze? yeah right, people >.>
One thing, look at this picture it seems like her torso stops in the middle??
That took me a loooong time to figure out! She's wearing some kind of metallic corset type thing. I was wondering where the heck her lower body went lol

They basically take something that isn’t completely “perfect presentation”, and they submit it to the “audience” as if it were scandal. The audience then uses the echo chamber to create the scandal or conflict with opposing views. Like so many of these apparent scandalous posts on this list.
OMG! Grown woman smoke and drink wine! Unacceptable! Call the police! Scandal!
and she was old enough to do both of those (she was in europe i don’t remember where when she drank. A GLASS of wine) scandalous/s

Sports and scandals, a golden topic. Drugs, trans, you name it. Never gets old.
Why do people even care about sports so much? If you're not actively competing, just enjoy the entertainment and don't worry about it being totally and completely fair for everyone.

The recent incident where a 19 yr old NBA player’s body guard shoved Britney Spear’s hand away when she tried to get his attention. The player got bombarded with hate from her fans when he literally didn’t do a thing haha
she wanted a public apology he gave her a private one 30 minutes after the incident ( her words) . She also said he pushed her to the ground but the security video showed that never happened. Fans of these stars act like this is their best friend & they must defend them when in reality the stars don't care about them at all.

I saw the video, BS taps the basketball player. Bodyguard swings round, hits BS. There is some debate whether the Bodyguard hit BS in the face or hit her hand into her own face. BS says Bodyguard approached her later and shrugged saying You should know what it's like in this job.

I will never understand why Taylor Swift was SO hated after kanye claimed she lied about the phone call (she didn't aswell). I've seen a mural of her saying 1989-2016, people wanted her dead/ to pretend she died. It's insane. Even if kanye was right, all she would have done was lie...
I have no clue what this is talking about. The only story about them I know of is when he went up on-stage and interrupted her at the Grammy awards 🤷🏼♂️
If Kanye is involved, and off his meds, people should just assume it’s b******t. Because it is.
Load More Replies...For those wondering, Kanye put out a song and music video called "Famous". The song refers to Taylor by name where he states, "I made that b**** famous." Kanye claimed that Taylor gave him permission for this. Taylor claims she did not. This came after the whole Grammy thing.
The full call record was out several years later. Taylor gave Kanye permission to use her name on the song but apparently Kanye did not tell her the full lyrics. She was not please Kanye call her 'b***h' in that song. That's what she meant by didn't give him permission: she didn't permit Kanye calling her a b***h. All in all I think Kanye/Kim did Taylor dirty in it. They pretended to extend an olive branch by creating a song about her, just to call her a b***h behind her back. I'm sure this experience among others makes her so guarded and careful now.

The majorty of Kpop Idols' issues and "scandals" whatsoever (ex. Smoking, dating, crying at a friend's funeral, etc.)
Recently, Kim Hongjoong (ATEEZ) said in a live that he just got his driver's license and was worried that "the fans wouldn't like it." Reason being? Apparently, according to some people, having a car makes it easier to date and the fans don't want them dating. WAKE UP, PEOPLE. Singers are only HUMAN. They can date, drive, cry, drink, or whatever the heck they like. K-pop Idols do not exist to serve your delusional fantasies. I know I am probably going to get downvoted for being harsh, but this issue sickens me and I wanted to bring this issue to light. As fans, we are there to support our idols, not to control them. In the brilliant words of Yunjin from LE SSERAFIM, Idol doesn't mean your doll to f**k with. Let that sink in.
I'm not super into K-pop, but I feel sad for the way the artists are treated. It's like they can't be human.
Kpop is like modern day gladiators. Slaves who preform for rich owners to entertain the masses without any regards for their health, privacy or quality of life, while pocketing the majority of their revenues
Ah yes, also Jennie dancing as dyanne also caused an uproar even though she’s literally 27 and should be able to dance however she wants. The amount of people who demand that kpop idols, even the adults, should be cutesy all the time is ridiculous
FR!! wonyoung gets canceled for eating a strawberry and pizza in a cute way. and her company asked her to eat it like that!!!
IK!!! and the latest scandal with that kid-I would also jump if I was a celebrity and a random kid tapped me on the shoulder!
Load More Replies...People are mentioning scandals but I am more concerned about the high rate of suicides in the K-Pop world.
I feel truly bad for K-pop idols. They have such stringent contracts that they are often referred to as “slave” contracts in Korea. The level of perfection they have to maintain is unobtainable. Sometimes they don’t even get to premier and they owe massive amounts of cash back to their producer. I highly urge fans to watch documentaries about it as it is quite sad and disturbing.
I agree, and this is why I love companies like HYBE and KQ. They are not perfect, don't get me wrong- but they still seem to have more respect for their artists than some...OTHER companies, if you know, you know.

Roky Erickson, lead singer of the 13th Floor Elevators, got put in a psych ward for possessing a single joint in 1969 Austin, Texas. He was subject to electroshock “treatment” in these facilities for 4 years. His mental state deteriorated greatly over this time frame. Based on the information that is out there, it’s pretty safe to say that this incident drastically lowered his long term quality of life. He was 22 years old when he was sent to the first facility.
It was a relatively standard of treatment for the time. Are we now supposed to be ashamed that in the old days, they used leeches? Medicine evolves, just like every other thing.
David Bowie saying he was BiSexual in an interview. It really ended up hurting his career in the U.S.
I disagree wholeheartedly that it really ended up hurting his career. The album, let’s dance Pete in the top five on billboards charts and stayed there for weeks. Three singles from the album went to number one, breaking records also. David Bowie was everywhere for nearly a decade.
Yeah, there's a difference between hurting a reputation and hurting a career. Case in point, just look at how hard people defend the work of Roman Polanski and R. Kelley, despite what they've done.
Load More Replies...People still kept asking him though and saying he was ambiguous. He clearly said yes he was bi. What do you need an announcement on a billboard?
How about major props for HARRY STYLES risking the same thing, challenging the media by saying it's none of your business, while wearing women's attire, pearls and dating women. We live in a time where ppl feel it's THEIR right to know one's personal intimate business, NO YOU DONT!!!
Sure, Harry should get props too, but it's VERY different to say "it's none of your business" now compared to actually coming out as bisexual in the 70s. What David Bowie did was MUCH more scandalous.

She won the Oscar for that role.. I feel like it kicked her career into high gear.
Yeah, that was the time they still made good movies instead of all these superhero 13 in a dozen movies. Or reboots/recycles, Indiana Jones part 4 or desperately trying to keep a franchise alive when the actors are way too old, or sometimes dead and digitally replaced.

Eddie Murphy and the sex worker. Huge scandal at the time but in retrospect.. who cares?
I think the issue was because the sex worker was trans and if anyone has seen delirious, we know what homophobic rant he could go on. He even went on anti-trans rants before there was any sort of visible trans activism so, the issue wasn’t the fact that he picked up a prostitute. It was because he made up a very weak excuse for why he was with a sex worker and that the sex worker was trans if he was so anti-trans and homophobic, it was the ridiculous hypocrisy. That was the issue. Edit: posted via voice dictation.
Okay but isn't he also a horrible father & like.. has kids with a mistress & didn't want to support the kids. His wife ended up connecting with the mistress so that their kids could spend time with their siblings? Maybe I'm wrong but I could have swore that happened

Howard Dean's scream. He was giving a talk to motivate his campaign workers.

Was looking for this. A little extra context that illustrates how stupid the whole dust-up was, from Wikipedia:
“The Dean scream, was a speech delivered by Vermont governor Howard Dean on January 19, 2004 at the Val-Air Ballroom in West Des Moines, Iowa. That night, the presidential candidate had just lost the Iowa caucus to John Kerry and wanted to reassure his supporters. He listed states he would win to a raucous audience before screaming "Yeah!" Within four days, it was broadcast 633 times on national news networks and cable channels. The audio used in the airings of the scream was from Dean's unidirectional microphone, which decreased the volume of the background noise to the point where only Dean's voice was audible; this did not reflect the actual volume of the room that night, as the crowd was extremely loud.”
So they soloed his damn mic and then broadcast it ad nauseum until he was dead and buried. Great reporting, [jerks].
This is wrong. It was completely legitimate to shame him for yelling once. This is the worst thing a candidate can do. It is acceptable to grab women by the pussy and incite an insurrection, but DO NOT YELL!

I always thought the public reaction/outrage over Body Count’s “Cop Killer” song was overblown and ridiculous, even if Ice-T did eventually end up pulling the song from the album
Nah, it's good if that song was frowned upon. The songs glorifying violence in real setting (not in fantasy) should not be encouraged
So what's the difference between music and movies, or video games? They're all artistic endeavors and certainly not "real" in any sense. So why do movies, games, books etc get a pass on things like violence but musicians are always vilified for the things they sing about?
