For many people around the world New Zealand sounds like this mysterious land, full of spectacular natural wonders and Kiwis, which can refer to the fruit, the bird, and the people. Part of that comes, of course, from the fact that it was the set of the iconic Lord Of The Rings series, but anyone who’s ever stepped foot in the country knows that it’s way more than that.

If you haven’t had the chance to explore New Zealand yourself, you might have to do with browsing stuff online; but, since you’re already here, at least you won’t have to look too far.

Today we want to show you some things that make New Zealand special, covering everything from beautiful nature, to wonderful people, and equally as wonderful fauna, so if you’re curious to see what life there is like, wait no longer and scroll down to find some posts that sum it up best on the list below.

Same messaging republicans (or whatever version of a-holes they have in NZ) ignore from the bible. So sad that you can read down a list of basic decency, and realize that conservatives OPPOSE item for item, every objective good on said list; and there isn't a f*****g moment of self reflection. Of stopping and going, "wait, EVERYTHING I vote for is the OPPOSITE of what Jesus teaches." Anyway, awesome sign. But directed at people that enthusiastically lean in to lacking empathy. It's the perennial conservative platform and always has been. Conservatism in America is more closely aligned with sociopathy than policy.

Kiwi here. Unfortunately a lot of voters didn’t do that at the last election, but I hope they’ll remember what our current government is doing and vote them out next election.

According to the Tourism New Zealand website, New Zealand is a country with a history of Māori, European, Pacific Island, and Asian immigration, which is now home to roughly five million people.

Out of the aforementioned, Māori were the first to arrive in New Zealand, having made their way from Hawaiki in canoes roughly 1,000 years ago.

Oh I'm glad to see this positively framed, I love her moko kauae ❤️ I've seen her discussed on Facebook posts and the ignorance snd hate is staggering. From staunchly believing this is no better than a gang tattoo to people "knowing about eskimos" and asserting something over the Māori culture, I've seen it all.

Some women in my family had face tattoos. Berber culture is having a constant fight with Islam in my home country. Conservatives and cultists are trying to erode culture away and make it seem like islam is the only thing that ever existed... The country consists of two main islands – the North Island and the South Island, the former of which is dominated by the Volcanic Plateau, an active volcanic and thermal area. Both of the two islands are adorned with rolling farmland, some adjacent to the mountain ranges running through the middle of the North Island and some – next to the Southern Alps in the South Island.

In addition to the two main landmasses, New Zealand reportedly has around 600 smaller islands.

All average or larger men. How about short people? They can have their heads ripped off. I wear them, but thank God that the few crashes I was in, the mechanism that yanks the shoulder belt tight didn't deploy. I'm 4'9". No auto dealer I've dealt with will address this. I can't afford a custom seat and harness, and insurance will not cover even if I did get one specially made and was in a crash. Children my height should ride in the back seat. What about child-sized drivers?

My second boyfriend from a family my sister was very close with died very likely due to not wearing a seat belt. He was about 19 or 20. Single car crash. He went through the windshield and flew dozens of feet. His parents had to "pull the plug". So tragic. This was right around when they started making use of seatbelts mandatory in my state, but a lot of people didn't wear them y et.

I was involved in a hit and run a couple of years ago, and I was basically OK. The officer who showed up said he'd seen so much less traumatic injuries and fatalities since seat belts have been required. I had marks like this, and only a bruised shoulder. The airbag's hot gas gave me blisters on my arm, that was a surprise!

Nearly 80% of landlords in NZ own only one rental property (in addition to their family home). The reason they do this is so they can control their asset and ensure their investment for retirement is safe, unlike the sharemarket where CEOs take massive pay packets for poor results, or the government, who will change the rules on a whim and penalise those who prepare.

Serious question are all police officers in NZ part of the New Zealand police force? I'm just used to police forces being assigned to a specific town, city,.village or county, even state police forces, but not after an entire country. Apparently it's in response to a new neighbour, who moved into a area with an established farm, then proceeded to file a series of complaints about the noise, smell and indecent acts of animals during mating season.

In France, we have "Maurice Law", named after Maurice the country rooster the new neighbors wanted to silence. In short, it says: "if you buy à house In the country, don't come complaining about country noises or smells".

For those who are not big fans of the Lord Of The Rings movies, visiting the set might not look that appealing. But even they must realize that for a huge LOTR enthusiast, few things would be more enthralling than roaming the locations where the gems of the early 2000s cinema were filmed.

Luckily for them, the set is open for visitors, so immersing yourself into the world of Hobbiton is actually possible. A guided tour through the set typically includes visiting Bag End, Bagshot Row, the Millhouse, and Hobbit’s home, among other things, and allows you to catch a glimpse of the colorful Hobbit Hole doors and many more charming sights.

Another unique attraction in New Zealand that might make you feel as if you stepped right into a movie is the spectacular Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Presented as Mother Nature’s lights display and one of New Zealand’s best natural attractions, the cave is dotted with thousands of glowworms (Arachnocampa luminosa) that radiate luminescent light, which, in the darkness of the cave, is surely a sight to behold.

While we did really well at the time in NZ we had some numpties who thought they knew better and would not take the lockdowns seriously, and others in quarantine who would escape when they only had a short stay in a motel and then they’d be free. But no! Mah rights! Or some such nonsense. What a colossal waste of money spent on trying to keep our country safe only to see lives endangered because of a selfish few. And even now you get the idiots who actually believe it’s all a big conspiracy. Ugh.

Of all the countries I've been visiting with my Wife, NZ is the only country that I almost didn't wear their traditional costume, my Wife, barely containing her laugh say to me: "Darling, pictures won't look good with your pale skin". Well, couple days later, a nice tan put a solution at my little problem

There's speculation that the Moa would be a good candidate for cloning as so many good samples exist. I can imagine a 2 metre tall 'chicken' in the back yard running towards you for it's feed😁

When i was in NZ, we went to a cave tour near Charleston, Waitomo was too crowded for my taste. The tour was amazing and the glowworms were only the cherry on top of an amazing tour and the best part, it was only me and my two friends and the tourguide. Maybe the one hour hike through the forest and the very small, very wobbly bridge is detering people as well, but i don't complain.

Depending on if you are Maori, a normal person, or a professionally offended pakeha is whether you get your knickers in a knot about the word. At times controversy gets stirred up because there are some pakeha that take a lot of offence at being called it because they think it is up there with other awful racist slurs. It just means non-Maori basically

Hey, dipshït - not every police person in every country is a bastard, even if there are bad apples in the barrel. A lot of police actually DO “protect and serve”. We wouldn’t want to be bigots and judge an entire group of people on the behaviors and actions of individuals, would we?

Nope, it was painful. The wool felts, and then really pulls at the skin. Also holds sticks & detritus, and skin sores develop, plus he's carrying around a massive weight. Couldn't really walk.

Briefly. Delayed it so we were somewhat better prepared when the waves came. Saved a lot of lives though. We watched the rest of the world in horror and head shaking. We'll, except for the antivax etc crowd.

So, in response to the down votes on my cockwomble comment - this reddit post is from the height of covid, when the world effectively shut down. The cockwomble is the poster who comments "Because I live in New Zealand". We had mask mandates well into late 2020.

They went hard, early and fast to eradicate covid - they stopped all community transmissions in about mid May 2020 - the only cases they had were travellers entering the country into quarantine - so no masks needed.

I don't know how people can afford the mortgage payments they have now. They are paying way over asking price just to be able to buy a house on a tiny lot. I have 3.5 acres that is mostly wooded with a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom, office and full basement on the original part of the house. The office and 3rd bedroom were added on. I couldn't buy anything like what I have for und a half million dollars and there is no way I could make that payment. I'm barely making it now with all the bills.

Not for single home users, only for MULTIPLE property owners. And they cancelled our tobacco free policy. They are a bad bunch, and some are ex lobbyists and ex-big tobacco. I can't stand them trying to bring lobbying here. It's a pendulum swing after someone like Ms Ardern I guess :(

Except in Wellington that time in the 90s when they dropped them in the Harbour to protest French Nulear testing.

Yes, there are some great things about living in NZ (although Jacinda is gone now so this is old). The cost of living is not one of them. I see people from the US complaining about their fuel prices, and it is 1/4 what we pay here.

Currently (I know it's the low season) it's only double. NZ$2.62 / liter, or NZ$9.99 / gallon, or US$6.02 / gallon. Price near me in Georgia, USA is US$3.02 / gallon.
